[Q] [q] Clockwork mod fails to install CM7 - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I set up the Clockworkmod derivitive for Nook Tablet and tried to flash my rom and right away it returns an error message of "installation aborted" when trying to install from my microSD card. I am trying to figure out what to do as I looked at similar threads and it didn't seem to be very helpful in solving the issue. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!
It goes through the specific messages of :
Installing:xxxxxx
Finding Update Package......
Opening Update Package......
Installing Update.....
Installation Aborted.

More data please. What model of the Nook Tablet do you have ? ( 8/16 ) And what were you trying to load ? The devil is is the details...
.
I got that message once too.

I have the 16GB Nook Tablet model, rooted it months ago. I decided to install the internal version of CM7 since i've been using it off of the microSD for months. I was trying to install CM7 to the internal memory and it failed to install it.

What is the version of CWM Recovery and where did you get the CM7. Hmm, @CelticWebSolutions says he has not posted his newer, improved, better one just yet...

I got the CM7 version from http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/no-root-install-cm7-on-nook/ when the original link on the CM7 thread failed, I seached around the same thread and found a version on that link. The CM7 Recovery version is the version from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650927

Hmm, what does Ray Waldo say ? Did you get a good download ? Is the MD5 checksum good ? I am running @Succulent's version currently, but if @CelticWebSolution's new one is good/better, I'll be switching...

Okay, I had to try another CM7 image and that worked *flawlessly*. Now I have a new problem however, I flashed Google Apps and upon the start of it, I get an error message stating "The Application Google Services Framework has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try Again." Whenever I start it up now, I'm stuck at the screen "Welcome to Nook Tablet, Touch the Android to begin" and it appears to register my taps to the android *but* it won't respond beyond making the android logo glow. I am unable to advance within the menu. Is there any fix for this? I verified the MD5 sums on both and CM7 was working perfectly until I installed GApps.
Update: Problem Solved, Here is how I solved it. I deleted my data from CWM (if you have the default B&N 1.4.0 firmware on your microSD it will automatically draw you into CWM) so then I re-installed both CM7 and GApps at the same time and the problem was resolved. Hopefully it helps someone later down the line! Remember, for the prior issue, make *sure* you're using the internal version of the ROM and *not* the SD card version. Unlike with my experience with creating my LiveUSBs for Linux, you can't use one for the other task. Hopefully this helps!

Heartbroken with Streak !!!

I am starting a new thread here since I did not got any mention of the problem that I am facing right now. Please help.
My device was on stock 2.2.2 ROM until I upgraded it to the 407 ROM sometime back. It was working smoothly till yesterday before I tried to root it. After installing the streakmod, I booted the device in recovery mode to apply the update of superuser.zip. However, though I am able to see superuser icon in my menu still Busy box Installer tells me that the root user rights cann't be acquired.
This was just the tip of the problem.
Now when I restarted my device, the Dell logo is coming up. However after sometime, a message is getting flashed saying that
"File system check returned status 2048. ( I dont remember exactly what file was mentioned but it was pointing to system directory. ) Please send this unit to the software development for debugging. Formatting your device".
After that I again flashed the 407 recovery and the respective package in the device. However, the problem still persists and the same message appears after 2-3 reboots. Even the stock browser is throwing up an exception and Wifi option says Error beneath it.
Before I flashed the stock 2.2.2 ROM, I had the following config for the phone -
Android version - 2.2.2
Baseband version - GAUSB1A134700-US
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Version -GAUSB1A134700
Build number - 15274
Please help. I am very much in love with this device and dont want to switch to some other phone.
Sounds like it coukd be your internal sd ard has gone bad, i was also getting the same message and my device formatting so i swapped it for a 2gb sdhc its been fine ever since

Hi andy,
Thanks for the information. But I believe that the internal SD card is not user replacable. Is it?? How much effort it required on your end ?
Yes mate it is replaceable, theres two ways to get T it, 1 is to remove the lcd from the phone second is to cut away the plastic inside the phone battery bay to get at it, i chose to open mine as i didnt wanna start cuttin plastic, it is really easy to do you can replace it with upto a 4gb, anything higher and you have to edit files etc, i put in a 2gb sdhc been fine ever since, plus the phone will automatically format for you,

Cutting the plastic is an easy job and only takes a few minutes. The upside to this method is that it the inner SD card is accessible and it only has to done once. If you have any warranty left you void that. You could even remove it and make a backuo image periodically.
I replaced mine with an 8GB, class 10 card and the phone formatted it for me. There is more info here and here.
The system files are needed if you want to use the space for other than what the system uses it for. More info on using the internal SD for other purposes here and here. In my case I ended up with over 6 GB of system space to install apps. I can keep all of my apps on the inner SD Card.
Aah thanks for that marvin, i didnt realise that, now i know that im gonna upgrade mine

I had lots of problems with mine to i think it`s the 347 base band i read every post and downloaded DSC and it works great read all there post there is a guide to follow you will have 407 running in no time REMEMBER TO READ
One thought here for the OP: why not upgrade to 360 first before trying to upgrade to 407? That might solve your issues. I can't verify whether it would work or not, since I never used the official ROM to upgrade. I upgraded the baseband the hard way and use a custom ROM.
I don't remember how off hand, but isn't there a simple procedure to test your SD card first to see if that is in fact the problem?

It's been posted many times. Info in this link.
My internal was gone bad too and crashed 4 times in 2 months. after functioning very well for the first 2 months. It appeared a read write block error on the internal SD repeating the error 4 times proved the defect.
I replaced mine without real trouble with a 8 Gb SD class 10.
just removed the old one and replaced with the new one.
mind you i tried several cards and not all were installed properly.
Now i have a huge 6 Gb for my apps and no need for App2SD or Link2SD anymore. can swap any external SD without problems for any apps that way. everything is now installed internal including maps of 6 countries for europe.
On youtube you'll find a lot of movies how to dis assemble and reassemble the Dell Streak 5.
Grts
Ted.
Please correct me if I am wrong. All the applications get installed to the internal memory by default. I don't face issues when I keep them that way. When I acutally try to move the apps to SD, sometimes the move does not happens on first attempt. Sometimes it does. I think that's where the problem lies. Is it possible that due to a corrupt external card, the streak is getting checksum error and formatted on restart?
That.s a good guess if you can repeat it afew times it has some bad blocks when software is bad removing and installing wil not solve that. It only took me as many as 4 times to be certen about it.
No genius needed for that.
I had 230+ aps installed and som other data I always wanted to have so internal is my choice. General I used 2.5 Gb .

The dev can set it up so that the app is installed to the SD card. Few apps do this, but not every app defaults to internal storage.

Alright !!
In the mean time my internal SD contains 333 aps now including 7 country map data of europe stored. My external is free for any use. Very cool when mounted by PC and no broken apps.
This streak is so cool now and despite the fact that it is an older device it still can compete very well.
The only disadvantidge is the longer boot and long refreshing the app list in the app drawer after first boot and backup apps.

UPDATE: i have been using he card now for some time but experience some systeem freezes, nog fatal but for a few sec andere up. I am ging to install he Same brand 4Gb card class 10 and that should be more than sufficient for my needs. Internal up to 16 GB is not an option i guess. IT would be even worse i guess.

PSA: Nook Tablet 8GB and 1.4.2

Alright, first of all, before you all freak out thinking that we can't root 1.4.2 or even gain access to the 8gb iteration of the nook, Fattire and I have talked and it looks like there is no real changes in uboot meaning that in theory, it can still be broken into with bauwks' uboot.
What does this mean?
Well, until someone creates an image and tests it, we won't know. But don't go assuming that it's unhackable. Also, I'm certainly not going to do it and neither is fattire since we don't want to have to purchase the 8gb nook tablet since it's basically a kindle fire and that's not ok. They should have stuck with the 16gb edition of the nook. Anyway, if you poor saps are willing to just buy the 8gb nook, I say wait until people can verify the image. I however, will not be giving B&N any more money at all.
So, what have we learned?
Don't assume things are unhackable. If they are slightly different, the exact same files won't work. We need to wait for new images for the 8gb version of the nook tablet to be hackable.
1.4.2 is still completely hackable using the sdcard method we have right now to root. It literally will work on every version.
EDIT: DO NOT FLASH 1.4.0 to an 8gb nook tablet. If you do, you're **** out of luck and need to go to B&N. Don't pm me asking for help.
Here were my thoughts, FWIW. It needs a real test tho.

Locking isn't the issue

I think the issue is not the locking, but running a bootloader configured to load the kernel & ramdisk into 1GB of RAM, onto a device with only 512MB of RAM.

Yes but if the device wasn't locked, and we could get people to pay attention to the fact that 1.4.2 is just as rootable as 1.4.0 and just as easy we wouldn't have people thinking that 1.4.0 is the only way to root ever. Which would stop them from trying to flash acclaim update to their 8GB devices. Well... at least one can hope.
How's this for a slap in the face... I'm 82% sure that the bootloader on my brand spankin' new 16gb is locked differently. I've tried 4 different root methods and can't get the tablet to boot off of an SD card.

This is just a thought, but it might work. I had a problem getting my NT to boot off of a used sd card. Even after reformatting you would think it would work, but in my case it didn't. I went out and bought a fresh sd card and it worked. It's worth a try, unless, off course, you have already tried a new card.

More like 3, a 16gb and two 4gb.
Have you tried turning the NT off and then turning it on by plugging in the charging cable? With the SD inserted of course.
So it seems they are making some behind the scenes changes to block things?

NT 8Gb + CWM-based recovery v5.5.0.4 - Backup fail
Hi.
how to make Backup in NT 8Gb + CWM-based recovery v5.5.0.4
the process of freezing as a video:

can someone has the correct CWM?

Thanks Indirect,
A CWM Recovery Tool for the 8Gb Nook Tablet would be awesome.
I'm in Australia and stupidly picked the 8Gb version not realising that it's 512Mb of RAM would be such an issue. And being over here I can't swap it.
So far I've:
- Successfully rooted it using jichuan89's great boot image (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553)
- Installed "NT Hidden Settings" from the Android Marketplace and allowed unverified application installs.
- Tried installing the CWM Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630) but received errors when installing ("Unable to install: This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and the "Unarchive" the application to try again" for App Installer and "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package" for Package Installer.
I'd really love to load CM7 but at the moment my big stumbling block is backing up the stock ROM using CWM.
Cheers

From what I remember if you try to install an app with app installer first it won't work with package installer after that. You might try redownloading and try package installer first.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Weirdly enough, turning it on an off and re-downloading the "Nook Recovery Flasher.apk" allowed me to install using Package Installer.
Now:
- I installed the CWM Nook Recovery Flasher and ran the install option
- Pressed the reboot button
- Now my 8Gb NT tries to start, shows the brown box for a few second and then the box starts "jumping" or flickering and the device hangs.
So far the only thing I've been able to do to get it working at all is to run CM7 from an SD card (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826)
Is there any way yet to restore an 8Gb NT? (and yes, now I know that I'm an idiot for getting an 8Gb version but I'm in Australia, so returning it isn't an easy option).
Thanks
Chris

I have just finished rebuilding all of cwm from source. So I think this build has all the changes required for the 8GB versions
The current version is SDcard only but can easily be converted to run internally too.
Please test and give feedback

Would be better if you create a thread in development section for this specific recovery for 8GB NT model, so users go straight to use yours instead of try @indirect app or pushing the old normal recovery with adb tool.

[Q] Newbie Questions - recovery mode/google now on ics

Hi guys,
First of all, thanks for the great community, good to be here
I've just got my mediapad at a bargain as 2nd hand and installed 'CleanICE 1.5 Rom (ICS 4.0.3). It has a really great response and installed with such little effort on my part so cheers h25p. I considered a couple other ROMS too, particularly the one posted by 'after_silence', http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571 CM10 but it is said to have issues with HDMI out (which is an important feature to me) so I haven't tried that one yet.
What I'm trying to do now is boot in to Recovery (so I can install GoogleNow as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) but can't seem to figure it out for this ROM.
Has anyone had success doing so with ICS? Or better yet, anyone with experience of the 'glitchy HDMI' on the CM10 Jellybean ROM (is it really bad or is it workable most of the time)?
Cheers guys!
[edit]
used auto recovery installer and got CWM on the device now (after_silence provides link to it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571)
i thought installing that would wipe everything else so to other newbies, don't be concerned. it's just installing the recovery manager and nothing else is affected
after that i went and installed the 'GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.1.zip' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) from sd card in CWM but sadly when it boots up there is still no google now. any ideas on where to proceed from here?
Maybe our recoveries doesn't support aroma installer. Try to flash twrp instead of cwm or put manually lib and apk/apks from zip to your system folder (same as it is located in zip), set perrmisions to apk and reboot.

thank you for your suggestion, it has got me one step closer (well I suppose anyway). perhaps from here it is just something to do with the gnow port just not being compatible with my rom? after I install it manually and recheck all the permissions via my file manager, whenever i go to google search it simply says "unfortunately, google search has stopped."
Try to find another moded version. I tried it on stock fw (ICS) few mounths ago and it worked.

Thanks, also posted a logcat dump for one of the Gnow developers and they said there was a lot of location / graphics card errors and also suggested to try another ROM. Ended up flashing JB 4.1.1 AOKP for mediapad 30.1 Final (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876676) and enjoying GoogleNow which comes built in with it.
So far I'm really surprised at how much better it is - initially thought my battery was failing ( purchased my device 2nd hand) but the drain is really low now with this ROM. Seems a bit faster over all too. Didn't test out the HDMI function yet but hope that's not as bad as it sounds. Keeping my eyes open on the development of the 4.2.2 nightlys thread and will probably head over to that once HDMI and bluetooth is working a bit better there

Need help flashing Galaxy Payer 5.0 // EDIT -- FIXED

EDIT:Turns out I just needed to try some different ROMs. Everything went fine when I installed SlimBean 4.3, then Carbon ROM 4.4, then gapps. Sorry for the useless thread.
I have been periodically attempting to get a custom ROM onto my device for weeks: In recovery mode I would get error messages about failing to mount the external SD card, backups would all disappear, roms stored on the SD card would get an error message telling me the file was bad even after moving them to USB storage (and Kies won't recognized the device, so I couldn't even upgrade back to 2.3.6 after flashing the stock rom) ... anyway, after replacing and reformatting my external SD today I finally managed to flash CyanogenMod 9. That's the good news.
The bad news is that I'm missing gapps, making the new ROM kind of useless. When I try to flash gapps in recovery mode it gets far enough to show the ASCII art logo (whereas in GB it used to just tell me it couldn't open the file), then immediately quits with an error message along the lines of "build.prop not found". The same thing happens if I try to install CM 11.
Some things I've seen made me think that maybe I should update ClockworkMod using ROM Manager but it asks me to choose my device from a list which doesn't include the Galaxy Player.
I'm currently redownloading gapps in case that file is one of the one's that's been messed up by being put on my old SD card, as well as some other ROMS in case one of them will work (maybe if I try Jelly Bean instead of going straight to KitKat?) I'm not actually attached to installing CM in particular, in fact I'd probably rather try Carbon or Beanstalk, and really at this point I'll take anything that works.
So anyway, help would be really, REALLY appreciated here because I'm really tired of spending my entire afternoon downloading files only to have none of them work.

[Q] The official guide for installing cm12?

The official guide for installing cm12?
Hi everyone,
I have no idea if this is the place to post my question and I am really sorry if this is not.
Umm..
I would very much like to install CM 12 on the Nook Tablet from download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=acclaim&type= but I have no clue how to do it.
I tried the link wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_acclaim which seemed a good place to start for a newbie until I saw this sentence "Bear in mind that the boot.img included with the Clockwork Mod Recovery does not support CM > 10.1.3" and belatedly realised that it wouldn't work for CM 12. *facepalm*
Now I am back to square 1 of ignoranceville and it's pretty lonely over here.
If someone would be gracious enough to help me out, it would be hugely, ginormously appreciated with ALL of my heart! :fingers-crossed:
If you installed cm10 and you have custom recovery just boot to fastboot (hold the 'n' button during start) and install the recovery from cm12 thread. After this install cm12.
It's worth noting that you have to convert userdata partition to f2fs for optimal performance. There are two tutorials how to do it in the cm12 thread.
As I understand it.
It is indeed lonely out there in the stix, fellow noob. When I first came to XDA looking for rooting instructions, I was told to read read read, and I have indeed been doing that. But even then my knowledge has a few gaps.
First, I have a factory resetted stock BNTV250 tablet that is at version 1.4.3. I want to get to the CM12 Lollipop 'acclaim' nightlies on github.
As far as I can understand, these are the current instructions as a general overview;
1) Go from BN stock (what I currently have) to CM10. There are a couple of threads around that have enough information to get someone to this point. You format the (micro) SD card on your computer for fat32.
2) Then use the TWRP 2.8.5.2 from that thread on a properly formatted SD card (now ext4?) card to use the desired image (in my case CM12). Reboot and install CM12 using TWRP.
3) Then, to increase the performance (highly suggested) go to the "CMxx [sdcard as Emulated] {Walkthrough} Guide." So you can merge partitions into one 'single' large partition. But I am not sure if this can include the external SD card that I want to use or not (i.e. in that same partition). Also, I am not clear what is the largest size of SD card I can use on the nook?
I am also unclear if I could use an external USB keyboard or not with that (with a micro USB to standard female USB adapter)?
Ok. That's scenario #1. I *could* get eventually through all that and end up with CM12 installed.
But the *much* preferred scenario #2 that I do not know if it exists or not (indications are that exists for some versions CMXX) is to;
1) format an SD card, transfer the proper files onto it, put it in the nook, reboot,
2) the nook boots and automagically installs the desired CM12 image (or prompts a couple of times).
3) Then you shut down, remove the SD card, reformat it (ext 4?) , and install on device to expand usable memory for all those movies/music someone might want to watch.
I really do not know if scenario 2 exists exactly. I do know that #1 can be done.
As I said, I'm a noob like OP, and if anyone can fill in a couple of the gaps while I wait on the memory card to be delivered, I would appreciate it!
Edit: I don't understand why it's not possible to "sideload" TWRP (or something similar) onto 1.4.3 stock nook, then install an CM12 image from there.
The XDA forums can be like a maze sometimes!
I also am having trouble with anything higher than cm-10.1 . I have jelly bean working on my nook tablet (bntv250a) right now. With the usual bugs
These are the files I have working now. cm-10.1-20130117-19-acclaim-HD.zip and gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip I have tried many other combinations of 10.1 and 10.2 and 11.1 always seem to end in boot loop. But I can seemingly ALWAYS boot those two files and bring jelly bean back. So I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with my install technique. Probably WRONG though !!!
I did finally try the latest cm12 and it amazingly did boot and not loop. BUT...... It immediately said android updating. Went through about 95 updating and then finally got to the welcome screen. Others have seem a million popups saying goo apps not working or something to that effect.
Anyway I was able to connect to wifi and start the registration. Unfortunately it was running VERY VERY SLOW !!! The keyboard kept disappearing and was so SLOW that I never made it through.
I am taking note of what kodjo said in a post above about f2fs. I'm going research that and see if I can figure it out. Kind of a last ditch effort.
Keep up the good work folks

Is there anyone using these old nooks anymore ?
Would it be possible for someone to post links to ROM's and GAPPS that are working on their 16gb B&N acclaim nook ?
That would be really appreciated. Then I can determine if it's my hardware or just my install.
