One of the biggest features that reviewers kept touting was this thing's ability to fire off 20-100 pictures in a blast, and that the shutter speed is near instantaneous.
In the month I've had this phone, I've...never quite experienced this. Usually when I take a picture, it'll kind of pause for a second and then go. Not terribly slow or anything. Still a bit faster than any other camera I've had. However, if I hold down the button in an attempt to capture more than one picture, the result is this:
It'll often pause for about 2 seconds, then one little preview image will "pop" over to the icon in the corner, and then I can hold the button down for 6-8 more seconds, and after it "saves photos" the result is 4. I think the most I've ever gotten is 5. If I have the sound on, it'll make the "shutter" sound like 3-4 times a second, but I'll still only end up with 2-4 pictures. Usually takes one picture about 2 seconds after I press the button, and then one picture taken right as I took my finger off the button. Also, unlike the previews i saw where each picture from burst mode is a nice action shot, I just get 4 images that are completely out of focus 80% of the time.
As far as I know, this is the same whether I use the physical or software shutter button. Is this..normal behavior?
Edit: Wow what do you know. I just tried it 4 more times because I'm sitting here thinking about it, and one of the times I actually got 9 photos! At least I know it's capable of it.
I get several photos in burst mode. But I definitely don't get as many as the shutter sound goes off. Frequently I expect 8 or 10 But only get 3-5. But I have gotten as many as 15.

Not currently running sense, but when I did it worked great...took dozens of pictures, instantaneously with 0 lag
I'd say a factory reset is on the horizons...or a trip to your local s&r center
Where are your pictures being stored? Does it save them to on-phone storage or does it save to a micro-SD card? If you're using a micro-SD card, that may be the cause of the delays. Check what class the card is, should have a letter "C" printed on the card with a number inside it indicating what class it is. A class 4 card is pretty common and inexpensive. A class 10 card has much faster read/write speeds but is also more expensive. Many DSLR cameras (especially ones that do 1080p video) have minimum card class requirements in order to quickly write pictures to the card while shooting quick bursts or high resolution video.
^ If that's the case, you could probably change the setting to store the pictures/video to on-phone or internal storage and I would presume it should perform as advertised until you are able to obtain a higher class card.
I have a class 10 card in there that it saves the pictures to. I bought it because it had great reviews for it's speed. I can imagine if the "saving photos" step would lag if you had a slow card, but I don't know why simply the act of taking a picture would be any slower. I guess I could test it out, but that would make me kind of mad if so.
Another thing I just noticed. If I launch the camera app by pressing the camera icon, it pops up almost immediately. If I press the physical camera button in order to launch the camera app, it takes about 4 seconds to launch.

Did you do an actual test on the "class 10" card? Get SD Tools and run it. Post the screenshot here. Also did you format the SD card with the phone or with your PC? It does make a difference. Try saving pictures on the actual phone storage and then post results. You can't use a SD card and then complain it doesn't work as stated. From the sounds of it it's your SD card's fault or you just got a faulty device. Also make sure to turn off the picture cap like someone stated.
If that doesn't fix it and a factory reset doesn't either (make sure to clear Wallet settings before doing this if you use it) then the phone is defective because I and many others (as a matte of fact from a quick search this is the first thread regarding this) don't have the problem. The only thing we all have though is the physical button vs screen button opening lag. I remedied this by just setting a shortcut on my lockscreen to camera, I think HTC is aware of this issue though.

That definitely sounds like your SD card isn't capable of keeping steady speeds to me.
While I don't get an 'icon pop' for every photo captured, I've had no problem getting 20+ photos in burst mode. Although, I will say it seems depend on what you're capturing. Just one example being: If flash is on (or is on auto and used) and I try to get a burst shot I'll usually only get between 10 - 15. Class 6 micro SD, here.

Under Continuous Shooting.
Tapatalked from my shiny new HTC Evo LTE
Your phone must be messed up. I have used continuous shooting from day one and it works as advertised. Like others have said what settings are you using under camera. I'm on MeanRom and have never had a problem. For a test a changed my continuous setting to 50 pics instead of 20 and it took all 50. Also, a class 10 card is a waste of money unless your using it in a camcorder or 18mp camera. You won't see any benefits in a phone. Class 4 is more than enough speed for this phone and any phone. If you look at what the class numbers mean it is strictly speed for writing not everyday access to the card.
I've noticed that how many pics it takes per second is pretty dependent on the shooting conditions and settings. Have you tried setting the camera back to default settings and shooting in daylight? It makes sense that it shoots slower if you have low light or settings are such that the shutter has to stay open longer.

True - to an extent. I'd say most cards on the market don't live up to their class rating. Especially if you are buying cheap cards off of Ebay or Amazon.

Actually, I'm curious to test this out. When I'm outside in ideal conditions and I want to take a picture, I simply frame the picture and snap a shot. When I use continuous shooting is when I'm indoors and I want to capture something crazy my pet bird is doing, and lighting conditions are maybe less than "perfect".
I'll try taking the cap off. I noticed there was a cap, but since I never got to 20, I figured why do I need to take it off anyway.
Also don't worry about the SD card. I'm a pretty frugal shopper. I probably looked through the reviews for about 45 different 32gb microSD's on newegg before I decided on this one. Then, I used a combination of coupons and small gift cards to get it down to $2. I certainly didn't pay much

Under "Continuous shooting" deselect "Limit to 20 frames." I just took 53 in a row, no problem.
use the internal storage. its write is almost 30 MB/s compared to class 10s being 8-10 MB/s (my pny class 10 is 8 MB/s write)
The zero lag camera, excellent quality with pics, macro, video etc are some of the best aspects of this cell. Coupled with the Mic, noise canceling filters, low light filters its truly amazing. Ask any iPhone user who compared, they will tell you the truth.

Was on stock and now the team pkmn rom, and my camera always works as advertised. Using a class 4 32g. I'll snap off 20-50 pics pretty unbelievably fast. After I'm done, I do notice a moments hesitation though, especially with 50ish shots .

I found 1 thread with 2 posts about the boot time and how it's expected to improve because the Sensations is better, but I don't see a thread about how long people's boots are taking. I just want to make sure mine is in line with everyone else's.
I timed mine last night and it took 3 minutes & 15 seconds to boot and another 30 seconds to "settle down" (mount sd, startup apps, etc).
just tested mine.. booted in just under 1 min..

I didn't time mine but it takes a while like yours, but I just figured that was because I have a 32gb card full with the internal memory at only 150 mb free. Yes I know I have a lot on this phone. I think the eVo 4g I had with any of Aamikam's awsome roms started up faster, and it will drop with the upcoming custom roms/kernels. So is ur phone full too?

There is a difference when you have fastboot on and you restart the phone, power off the phone, or battery pull the phone and then boot. A battery pull and a restart is the same. When you power off the phone its like hibernation mode on your pc. So when you boot up from powering off it will be much quicker than a restart or a battery pull.

I have tried with fastboot on and off and get about the same results. I pull my battery a few times a day. Battery life sucks so i bought several cheap replacements which I charge separately.
I do have almost 200 apps on the phone but that's why I wanted a fast phone. I have a 32GB card but it's class 10 so I would think that wouldn't slow things down.
Today is day 29 for me so i have to decide by tomorrow and I'm still on the fence. Sprint seems slow coming from Verizon and I thought this was the fastest phone in the US right now but now I'm not sure. Plus I've had freezes with the camera and black screens when zooming in the gallery. I want to love this phone. I don't want to wish I had something better in 3 months.

This phone is one of the fastest. You may have a defective device if its that sluggish. A class 10 card should not slow you down in speed at all. You may have alot of programs loaded in your memory since you have 200. Put the phones task killer to use.

Wow... You all have fast boot times compared to me. I have the android assistant app, along with around 150 apps, and used autostarts app to prevent unnecessary apps during various system events (nice app). Anyway android assistant puts a notification with startup time after each boot. Mine used to take 5min, now up to 7min. Fastboot off, time with battery pull. 32GB adata class 6, most apps except largest are on internal.
Especially painful if random reboot occurs during important call...

I like my EVO 3D but realize it isn't perfect however some things may be fixable via an update.
Since some barely talk on their phone and use text while other barely text etc. I'm curious what effects the most people?
I've experienced a few of the items listed but not all. I'll admit even if the picture quality isn't great I use my phone so infrequently it won't really bother me ever but I thought I'd include the most common issues people post about.
Mine is the speaker phone. I don't make many "real" calls, but I do make about 10 or 15 calls to automated systems a day. I have enter strings of 24 digits at a rip then listen to what the system says. It's so much easier on speaker phone but a lot of times I have hold the speaker up to my ear to hear them. I've used equalizer, but really the phone just needs a bigger speaker.
I have my gf set the alarms in am on her cheap prepaid phone because that thing is twice as loud as my mega superphone.
Everything else will be fixed with cm7!
Camera freezing after taking a photo. The issue is rather random and I never had the issue before applying the OTA. I'm willing to wager that another software update can patch this.
Battery life was a huge issue for me till I got the Airrave. I think this is caused by the reception problem on this phone. So I'd probably say the choppy call quality (or lack there of) is the biggest issue next to dropped calls for me. These may all be related but since I bought a phone I would think that is what they'd make sure works properly.

use QPST to raise the volume, there is a post around here showing you how to do it.
My biggest problem with the EVO3D would have to be the *****ing that seems to follow it everywhere.
My biggest problem is no problems.
The only issue I have had is the GPS jumping all over the place, I *think* mostly when it is plugged in to the charger at the same time. Haven't seen a lot of talk about it, so this is what it does.
I can be going down the interstate at 75, no turn for 75 miles, and it will start telling to turn right, turn left, turn left, back on interstate for 75 miles. Then 10 seconds later it jumps me over to random road 1/2 mile away and tells me to turn, turn, turn, turn, then continue on for 74 miles. Etc. It happens in any nav program, Sygic, Google nav, telenav, etc. So it has to be hardware related, and seems to happen the most when it is plugged in to the car charger at the same time?? Anyone else?
Brew
It is interesting to see the results. I would think the choppy phone quality would be numer one but it is clear the speaker volume is the more common concern?
Would any of you be willing to say if the speaker problem is a bigger issue for phone calls or for other functions e.g. games/videos etc.
Were is the option for nothing
My GPS is flawless and I've never had it reboot on me once.
Everything else listed is a problem though.
Calls drop, constant 3g-4g switching even though I have a stronger 4g signal, overheating after about 5 minutes of playing any game or media file, low volume...and sometimes just a flat out unresponsive touch interface (doesn't respond to touching certain areas of the screen...sometimes).
Hey, it's a great gps but a chud stain phone.

Smaller text is due to a larger resolution right?
For me it's definitely either the cellular/data radio or sprints (lack of) service. At home I get on average of 1-2 bars and at work, 0 (no service) - 1 bars. Makes for extremely piss poor battery life as well as extremely delayed and troublesome texts/calls/notifications.
Hmmm let's see no s-off

I'm hoping an xda developer figures a way to fix some of these items so we don't have to wait for HTC to figure them out. The things I'd love as a priority for an xda version would be better signal/call quality and tethering.

Build: It's nice, I actually like the rubberised backing and I love where the speakers are. It's taking a little getting used to as I recently sold my ipad 3. To me, it feels like I don't have to treat it as precious as the ipad, and that is something I really like.
Screen: Sharp as hell, The screen is great. Really great. Sharpest I've seen. The contrast is took some getting used to because my phone is an s3 so I'm used to over saturation. After spending the evening with it yesterday, I actually prefer the more natural looking colours. I did download a black image to look at light bleed and did notice a couple but to be honest, its not something I have ever looked for before and it's not a big deal, its not noticable on mine when using it.
Android 4.2: love the multi log in. Love how smooth it is. Browsing internet so far as been as good as my laptop. I always found Chrome and Safari to be quite annoying on ipad. Still undecided about my preference on the soft keys placement, time will tell! I had forgotton my entire music collection is synced on my laptop to google music, so i got a great suprise when i saw all my music and picasa collection synced.
Apps: I probably don't use apps as much as other people but I do miss some apps from the ipad, things like amazon, ebay etc. and a decent twitter client. I'm sure they will come and they can be just as good (look at expedia on ipad and android for good example) and there is one app you will not see in the app store, one of the main (if naughty) reasons I sold my ipad...utorrent :S
That's all I can think right now...camera is average, as to be expected I guess.
Hope this answers you question ok! Cheers.
Thanks for the write up!
Is the web page scrolling smooth on sites like the verge and droid life articles, especially in the comment section, as smooth as the ipad 3 in safari? That is really my only concern about the tablet after reading the other reviews. I just can't stand stutters when I'm scrolling a web page.
Thanks for the review!
I would also like to know how is the battery drain on first impression?

Where abouts is the light bleed located? How much light actually bleeds through? By that I mean is the light bleed spots noticeable brighter or only slightly.
It won't bother you during normal use, but would it if you watched a dark video?
My 32gb arrived yesterday late morning, used it on and off most of yesterday afternoon & evening.
Impressions:
In the box: Nexus 10, Quick Start manual, USB to micro-USB cable, USB adaptor & wallplug
Hardware:
Construction seems generally solid, I like the "grippy" rear on the device - you get have it on your knees without fear of it slipping off. My only gripe is how quickly the screen gets finger-print splattered, but that's a general tablet gripe rather than a Nexus 10 gripe.
Set-Up:
I had ticked the "link to my account" box upon ordering, so it greeted me by name when it booted up. Entering my Google password kicked off the quick & easy set-up process as any applicable apps (not all of them were) are downloaded onto the Nexus 10. Then came a OTA update to Jellybean, and a re-boot. Boot process is very fast - from switch on to login screen seems about 10 seconds.
Display:
As others have said. it is sharp. Very sharp. Zoomed text on web pages looks great. Games look great. Apps optimised for the tablet look great. No complaints about performance. I installed various widgets for email, twitter, FB etc. all without any issues.
User Accounts:
An excellent feature, and was very easy to set-up if you have google accounts for all users. Great for sharing the tablet around the family. My only concern is that now when I purchase an app on my account and someone else in the family want to use it, I will have to purchase it again for them - which is a bit of a gyp.
Battery:
Device came with about 70% battery. I plugged it in to charge whilst I was doing the set-up etc. During this period the device did not seem to gain any charge, but stayed about the same. When left alone on charge (not switched off), it seems to take a long time to charge up - probably managed about 10% in an hour. Left overnight it charged from 50% to full, no problem, but I'm going to see if a 10% or less battery will charge fully overnight tonight. Will not be very happy if it doesn't!

Gonna have a more in depth look at this tonight, but as each additional user I set-up was done using different gmail accounts & for each one it asked if I wanted to register a credit card, I concluded that apps purchases were done per account rather than per device. Hope not though!
First Impressions:
Slick fulfillment - Ordered 16gb at 11:16 am in UK on Tuesday, arrived 23 hours later!
Nice box Decent charge in battery
Looks cheap compared to the finish on my departed TF201, though feels nice in the hand.
Bezel looks slightly too large at sides due to the speakers.
Lovely screen, some very very minor light bleed, certainly nothing compared to my TF201.
Takes ages to charge via the micro USB, a faster solution is needed urgently.
4.2 being very early days mean a good few of my regularly used apps like MX Player and Boat Browser do not yet work.
Here is one I took last night with normal screen i nthe dark. perfect for movie watching, no?

Haven't received my N10 yet however with the Android phones my family uses I created a "family" Gmail account that some purchases are made under. I add that "family" account as a secondary account on the phones (making sure to uncheck all sync options) and the apps are then available for all family members via the Play Store.

Good. If all the screens only have very minor light bleed at worst then we have nothing to worry about.
Any chance of a photo of a fully black screen showing how minor the light bleed is?

Hi there. Today i just noticed some lag after i recorded a video. I recorded a video for about a minute and a half to 2 minutes each time and then when i pressed stop on the screen...it stopped recording but kind of jammed or froze on that same screen still showing the red stop button, both times it did this. Is that normal for Galaxy's to do or is it just my phone? I went to test it again later but i recorded a shorter video and was fine and no lag, but seems that larger or longer videos seem to freeze or jam it for a bit. I was in a very dusty, dirt road area and just maybe though something may of gotten into the phone and wrecked it a bit but just had it replaced with a brand new device nonetheless.

I personally haven't heard of/read about anyone experiencing this (nor have I experienced this myself) so maybe it's just an isolated incident - have you tried searching?
I regularly record 10 mins vids fine if it's of interest
Are/were you on stock?/root?
Are you on 4.1.2 stock rom with custom kernel ?
Then try to search its widely known issue
Hope this helps

What rom are you using custom? stock?
im on Android 4.0 stock rom. It happened two or 3 times yesterday. The device is as is out of the box...no root, nothing customised or anything.
If you are experiencing this issue recording to external microSD, try setting it to the internal SD card storage to see if it fixes the issue. If it does, then your microSD card might be dodgy.

ok cool yeah it is recording to external sd card. the card seems to work fine though, it reads and writes fine so maybe it just took time to save the whole file onto it?
I had this problem, too.
I enabled the camera stabilisation and the bug was gone...
Hope this was helpful
Hello,
So I've been using my HTC One for about a week now (got it straight from a T-Mobile store). Just a few questis;
1. Battery life went down from 100% to 50% in just two and a half hours. All I was using was TuneIn Radio and Whatsapp on 4G (HSPA+ not LTE). That shouldn't happen right?
2. The camera doesn't always focus and in low light is pretty terrible. Not supposed to happen right?
3. There seems to be a gap/run off/sharp area next to the headphone port/jack.
These are not supposed to happen right? Does it warrant a replacement? Should I go back to the store and ask for a replacement?
Also, when will we see the software update that improves the battery life that is mentioned in here: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...s-techradar-s-third-5-star-smartphone-1149180
Thanks,
Crazysah
I too would like this update.

Can anyone tell me if my phone is having major problems or just me freaking out?
Hi, first congratulations for your phone.
I'm sorry , cannot answer your questions, but, I'd like to ask a question myself.
Is it possible the phone rings in your ear while you hold it close to your face.
this thing happened to me on my old omnia and its a very bad experience.
Ie. You press reply on your phone and bring the phone on your ear but somehow you didn't. So phone keeps ringing into your ear (LOUD).
Did you experience this ?
I have the same problems my battery dies really fast and the camera I'm not impressed I take a picture nd it's not as clear as it should be for some reason.

Anyone here who can help?
Also, here is a link to the pictures I took with the camera: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41094946&postcount=50 - Do they look fine?
Someone? Anyone? Please?
If you are streaming data for two and a half hours straight you will use battery. If the screen was on for anywhere near those two and a half hours, you will chew through your battery. I'm sure your phone is fine.

Yeah but I was streaming audio, not video. I do think my battery is more or less fine though, only died once on me. Will test out more and report back.
Thanks,

-As others have said, streaming data and having the screen on will eat your battery right up. You could however install a battery manager like "Battery Doctor" which will test it's health and give you ideas to conserve battery.
2. The camera doesn't always focus and in low light is pretty terrible. Not supposed to happen right?
-That's weird and weak, I bought this for the camera because the ulrapixel camera rocks for dark bar scenes and titty flashes. Do some searching specifically on this, I've heard rumors that there were some faulty cameras out there but a restore might also fix that right up...
3. There seems to be a gap/run off/sharp area next to the headphone port/jack.
-Yea, there were a lot of reports about that gap. It's a shame, if you take it back to the store and they have them in stock you should be able to swap it out. I went through three of the five units in my local store before I found one with no gap or dead pixels, but then I'm one picky cracker.
Hope this helped.

Check out my pictures here and tell me if the camera seems alright: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273433
Also, where was the gap on your phone? Near the microphone jack at the top?

This thread covers the various gaps folks have found
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197732
And the camera pictures just look like you're not quite used to using the settings yet to get great pictures. Spend a bit playing with the options and see if your results improve but it looks like if there is a problem at least it's just a software thing. If you're really worried cruise into a store and take a few identical pictures with their demo unit and your phone, that'll give you a good comparison.

Congrats on getting a true gapless! I'm not sure about the pics and since none of us were there when you took them don't trust anyone who says they are sure... Ensure that your lens is clean and go do an in store comparison, most likely if a rep sees that their camera takes much better pics they'll swap it out on the spot. I've heard of lens covers having fingerprints on the inside that caused blurriness so it could be something like that, the store comparison seems like the easiest troubleshooting path though.
