[Q] Any SGS2 users on HTC One X? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been planning to move away from my SGS2. And I'm gonna ask if it's a good time now?
Actually, I don't need a new phone. SGS2 handles everything I do, fast enough. Problem is, I hate this phone to it's guts. I mean, it is decent and works mostly fine but I had too many problems to even like it or keep it. It just like a bad luck charm in my pocket. Now, if I get hit by a bus, I'm gonna blame this phone. That's how I hate it.
Guess it's this particular device, with bunch of hardware problems and stuff, not the whole line. However, combined with ****tiest ever customer support, I just want to get rid of it by flushing it into a toilet.
That said, I decided that I would not even pay a cancerous tumor to Samsung for SGS3 or something new. Gotta look somewhere else.
I have been thinking about One X, looks like a decent device. I guess the biggest problem is battery life but I'm not sure how bad is it compared to SGS2 or 3? Anyone had a chance to use one after SGS2, would you suggest it?
BTW I'm neutral about iPhones, used 2 of them before, good devices. I could switch back, but it looks like the new model will take a little more time to get released and I don't want to buy a 4S weeks before the iPhone 5 release.
So, what would you do? Go for HTC or wait and see if the new iPhone turns out to be something I'd like more than others?
Thanks..

[q] is htchd2 really worth it?

ok so we all know that the htc leo has alot of cool features you can use on it and alot of its qaulity is unique. but unfortunatly it has lots of problems too. i so far has gotten 4 brand new htc hd2's and they all have bugs and problems within them like restarting by itself many times and freezes. tell me what u think?
I love the phone. But I also have very few freezes and have never had the phone reset itself.
I've never had a defective phone. I think a lot of it is things we do to them.

Same here. The only time I get lockups or slow-downs are after I install certain apps.
Same here..............
Had mine since November and the only problems have been ones that Ive caused through too much tweaking.....
And a problem with T Mobiles original stock rom but that was T Mobiles fault not the HD2.......

The HD2 is a wonderful machine that gives you best performance and wonderful features.
Especially when u compares it to competitive products or the price paid.
I have HD2 , T-8585, since January and never had any freeze or self restart.
All problems I had never cased from the HD2 itself. They cased from installing soft wares which sometimes do not work properly with other soft wares. That was easily recovered with the assistance of nice guys here.
Some problems occurred from defective accessories such as croppy cheap usb-micro cable.
The HD2 is wonderful machine that can be easily converted and modified according to your needs and imagination.
Thanks for the great answers ! I think its just the T-Mobile Rom thats a complete piece of crap. Because I didnt even add anything or tweaked the first 2 phones i got and they still caused many problems within the first day no B/S. Another quick question dough, how much would it cost to buy and repair an htc hd2 LCD screen, because one of my phones screen cracked. Its not the glass outer part that broke but the inner screen.
I am agree with you all, it's a great phone fast-big screen-cool design, but....
It's worth to pay 450 euro for this phone now (AUG)?? I mean I can wait for the next generation (mabe hd3/NOV or DECEMBER) thaat will have more features like an S-AMOLED and mabe a hdmi cable, and all of that with +50 euro.
Do you know anything about new HTC phones that will be released and when, and it is worth to wait more??? Thank you!
I believe the hd2 is one of the best devices on the market. It's fast, it has wonderful features, and now it is capable of running more then one os. Even the stock winmo isn't bad if yu change the rom and don't care about downloading apps. I believe for tmo usa, the hd2 is hands down the best phone they have, other then the n1. And yes better then the samsung vibrant, which is supposed to b upgrade but doesn't even have a camera flash.my experience with samsung phones has been horrible. I don't even think froyo has been released for it. Even tho it's ported, I've been running froyo on my hd2 since late july. As for up coming phones, google htc vision aka g1 blaze. 1GHz processor, medium sized screen, slide out keyboard and android. Basically the first legit replacement for the original g1. Much better then that mediocre mytouch slide 3g. The choice is yours.personally I love my hd2, but yu might just want to wait alittle while longer.

Btw the htc vision should b coming out before the years end. Also there is a rumored hd3 coming soon that is supposed to run wimo7. Decision, decisions lol best thing about the hd2, runs winmo 6.xx, runs linux, runs android, and most likely will run winmo7(I'm sure someone will figure out how to port it) what other phone can do that! Lol decisions decisions

i think its a Great phone, i love everything about it slim design customisation element big screen but unfortunately it does have its flaws eg battery life occasional freezing to name a few plus no further windows upgrade officially it looks like a dying breed imo but without the chefs on here this handset will be resurrected with android port coming through and presumably windows 7 the futures look good
I do love the phone alot and i do think its the best phone on the market but im just highly upset with its problems. My bad luck i guess hehe . I have another question dough.
What does the red or yellow dots on the back of the phone next to the battery on the lower left mean? I got a 3 phones with red dots but 1 with a yellos dot.

all that is a reset button. First it was red, then on the newer batch, it was changed to yellow.
For me, its the best windows phone I have ever used. Although if I was thinking of buying a new phone at this stage of the year, I think I would wait till around Oct-Nov or at least i'll wai for the first release of W7 and see if it is worth the wait. But the HD2's built I think is almost perfect(virtual keys at the bottom would have made it perfect for me).
Well dasz really true ! Thanksz for all da help guysz .. Ima jusz try to find the best rom out there . I wuld like sum help on dat too if u dont mind hehe This site is very supportive and useful !! Big thumbs up
Coming from a google phone for the past 2 years and then going back to Windows I was amazed how easy it was to deal with the phone.
The issues are the same as the others freezing, lag, etc. I think its the stock ROM itself, but I wonder? Sometimes it acts like my old dash and when you have to close the tasks and use a program to clear up ram space, it annoys me.
I don't like the windows market place, in google certain programs are free, but in windows you have to pay to use features? F-that.
I awating till they perfect a andriod rom to be put in the HD2 with no issues.
The good points of the phone is that it syncs to my outlook with ease..

So does this mean that no matter what rom i put into the phone, it will always be lagging and freezing as it normally would?

I wouldnt say that since most of the roms here seem to make it run better, but Windows mobile is crap compared to Linux.
The HD2 has the same features as my Andriod phone Google maps, You Tube, Google Browser, yet run like crap on the windows mobile phone. GPS take forever to lock on and the maps just has a differnet feel to it..Youtube runs differnet and the browser is crap
Does this phone really have a 1 ghz processor? It feels like my a phone is on 450ghz at times, again maybe window mobile requires too much?
I'm going to flash a rom on the phone since I am tired of the battery drain which is annoying
I have a Nexus One that I am in the process of selling since I like the Hd2 alot more.
The Hd2 does everything I could ever ask of a smartphone and more:
- Free turn by turn GPS directions
- Emulator gaming
- Word/Excel documents
- Bluetooth keyboard support (Android cant do this at all)
- Voice recorder
- Gorgeous 4.3' monster screen
- Tethering
I haven't had any problems with my Hd2 whatsoever. If anything Android gave me more problems than Windows Mobile. The only reason you hear about Android more is it's newer and the media want's to push it as hard as they do with Apple stuff for ratings...
I'm bored with my HD2. Because its working perfectly. I guess I need a new phone with lots of problems
I love the phone. It's design is great, the screen is amazing and the hardware is beefy. What really makes the phone though is the community and chefs here at XDA. I lose count of the amount of times I have reflashed my phone. With different ROMS, experimenting and messing around. It's a great device if you like doing that. It makes you pity the iSheep followers, really..
However, my main 2 drawbacks are this: 1) The battery life is poor.. although that is understandable with the screen and hardware it's got to supply. 2) the fact that HTC have confirmed that they will not be supporting/supplying WinMo 7 for the device. However, I hold out hope that will not be a problem for the clever guys here at XDA .

[Q] What next?

Thinking of selling this Vibrant...
I'm getting a warranty replacement in the mail for sucky GPS, and I thinking of sending it straight to eBay as a brand new phone. Might be a rash decision (honestly, if GPS worked from the getgo, I'd be pretty happy), but I'm tired of lies from Samsung, etc.
Problem is, what's better? I'm tied to T-Mobile for another 18 months.
Nexus S doesn't have TV-out, has the older BT 2.1, no expansion slot, no HD video recording (although it's upscaled anyways).
Maybe the Vibrant 4G? Comes w/ FFC, Froyo, and HSPA+...but I'd be a fool to come back to a Samsung-supported phone so quickly.
Any other suggestions? Maybe just get a Nexus S and sit on it for a while, while the market evolves? For some reason, Nexus S's go on eBay for more than retail...
Ive used ATT, Verizon, Sprint, allcell.......... they ALL suck worse than Tmo, so to me it is the service 1st not the phone. The samsung is pretty good phone, Think about it, if it was so bad why then aren't people running to the other phones and carriers, Cause the other phones out there aren't better that's why...... The s-2 of the vibrant 4g look to be pretty good so does the new moto phone...... But these phones when will they really hit the store ?April? and How do you like trying to get rid of motoblur (What a stupid name) I ve done the root on a moto phone and load a custom rom........ ugh barbaric So, I guess it is just one of those things dont like the Galaxy phone? look around........ find something better.... if you can
Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm so eager to get rid of it. It really does most of what I want, with nothing else much better on the market. Perhaps it's just I lost my patience w/ Samsung w/ the stream of lies they've given us in regards w/ GPS fixes and Froyo release date.
I've been running Froyo ROMs since October, but I still feel lied to in some sense.

[Q] Rare chance to jump ship, should I?

Hey everyone,
I got my HTC Sensation a couple weeks ago and the camera has gone weird. It has only happened a couple times and hasn't happened since those couple times, but I took pictures and have documented the fault.
This means, the phone is within the 30 day Early Life Failure period. Which means, I can take it back and get another brand new one, or swap to a Galaxy S2. (Or some other phone, but these are the only two phones on the market, in my eyes).
I spent today using an SGS2 and I really love the phone. It is evidently faster and the screen is amazing, but the only things holding me back are that it feels "chunky" in your hand (when compared with the curvature of the Sensation) and that the resolution makes me feel like an old man.
Go into your computer settings and change the resolution to 800x600. Stare at it for a bit... That's how I feel going from qHD back to SVGA.
I really want to like the S2. I feel deep down that I do prefer it (otherwise I wouldn't be having this argument)... I'd love it some guys were able to weigh in, perhaps others of you have "lived with" both phones and can help me out in this decision?
Cheers,
- Morsolo
Your choice but some/many HTC users cannot live without Sense .
jje
Well I would suggest watching some of samjpullen's videos on YouTube he copares both phones. I myself have the SII and I am happy with my choice.
Well, I really do love Sense... and I'm not a fan of TouchWiz... but I'd probably (in the long run) end up on LauncherPro or something.
On my old Desire, I used Sense for a while... Then went to LauncherPro... Then I started using a Sense 3 port. In short: I believe software can be fixed/changed, but you're stuck with hardware.
If the camera on the HTC is what is getting you to jump ship then you have to be very careful. Most of the SGS2 has the famous pink spot syndrome. Not sure if that was the problem on your HTC. Otherwise, it is a good phone.

[Q] Iphone 4 ≠ Galaxy S2

Wonder if anyone could help me as I have been thrown a little out of my depth. The story goes .....
Been using Iphone since 1st Gen, skipped the inbetween and then around 6 months ago went for the iphone 4. Just yesterday after watching some of the stuff on siri I was itching to go for the 4S, although it really felt this time against my better judgement. I knew I shouldnt be spending £500 just for a voice assistant, but I was impressed and was only inches from making the purchase.
However something stopped me and for some reason I just kept going back to the other phone I had heard something about, the Galaxy S2. I really didnt know ANYTHING about this phone, but decided to see what it was all about. It only took me a couple of hours to find out that on the surface this seems a far more impressive phone than the 4s.
It already has some voice recognition software, although it doesnt look like its quite up to siri standards, but the fact that you can plug in usb memory sticks, hook it up to the tv with little to no effort, the fantastic screen etc, it seemed too good to be true.
What has happened during all this research however is that I have picked up some information Im not quite sure of the answers to, which is where someone can maybe help me out.
I9100 vs I9100G ? Im going to be purchasing this in the UK probably on the three network. Is there ANY " G " stock in the UK as I would definately prefer the I9100. How can I be sure I get a 9100?
I read something about yellowing on the screen. Is this an issue with certain models or versions that I should be aware of and to try and avoid?
As with anything such as items like the PS3, PSP, is there any later revision I need to avoid during my purchase that cant be rooted or hacked as the other earlier models can?
I bought my iphone factory unlocked but with this I think I am going to take out a network contract, however are these phones easy to unlock unlike the later iphone models and again are there any later revisions where unlocking has become difficult or impossible?
Basically I am just after some friendly advice for someone who has not made the purchase yet. I just dont want to come back on here and someone say " Oh no, you didnt pick up the SGH-2013232-PPZ revision did you????? Your screwed!"
I have never, ever used an andriod phone before, so am completely new, but after clearing the apple mist, It just seems that in particular the SGS2 is definately pulling me away from continuing with my apple related destiny.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
P.S I did have an old username on here but for the life of me cant remember what it was. It dates back to when I used to come on here regarding my XDA Mini S device.
Make sure it is the GT-I9100. This phone is great. Had no problems so far. It's as good as iPhone 4s and alot.cheaper! IPhone is heavily overpriced.
Be prepared that it is not the same as an iPhone. Some thinks might be harder to configure. My gf has an iPhone and now wishes she had bought mine because Android can do so much more than ios and because my phone is cheaper while it can do the same

AFAIK, in Europe you'll be fine. The i9100G is only sold in a couple of markets, such as India.

New phones are fine. I believe that issue happened only on the first models.

As far as you get a i9100, you'll be fine. You can root every single firmware released, keep root through firmware updates, revert bootloaders, etc. This is as much of an open phone as possible, short of a Nexus or Maemo/Meego.
Thanks for the advice. Still pretty nervous about plumping for my first android phone after so long on iphones, but from everything I have seen about the Galaxy S2 it seems to pretty much match the 4s and certainly seems to do things the 4s simply cant touch such as hooking up usb memory sticks and the ease of connecting the device through HDMI to TVs.
It might take a bit of getting used to the Android way compared to the Apple way .
But you can do what you want its your phone and SJ dont tell you what is what .

Would this phone be too big for me?

I'm petite. Have small hands. But I like the screen size and how the battery life is better than the gs3. Also like the multi window feature. But would this phone be too big for me. Will people look at me weird if I put this phone to my ear? Lol I also like the fact that I don't need a tablet if I get this phone lol I currently have an iPhone 5

The best way to tell is go to an Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Best Buy, etc. and try it out for yourself.
I have normal sized hands and when I first got it, it definitely felt on the large size, even coming from an S III but it only took me a couple of days to get used to it.
After a day or two you will not even think about how large your new phone is but how small and toy-like you old phone feels.

Will people look at you funny? Yes they will. In 6'3" 220lbs and people look at me funny. As others said though is probably best to give it a shot in store and see if you like it. My wife is 5'2" and tiny and after playing with my note now wants one

Yes people will look at you funny. But does it really matter when you have the best phone available right now? I would'nt trade mine for anything and i came from having a gs3 to the note 2.
Hi,
I came from a thunderbolt and so happy I decided on the note 2. I was thinking of the gs3 and let me tell you the screen size makes doing everything so much nicer. Plus no lag at all.
This is on stock I will make the jump to beans 7 once he releases it.
This is the way you can really see 4g in its full glory.
Thanks,
Bryan
You get used to the size of the note after a few days, its normal to me now and every other phoneni use feels too small lol
And when it comes to using it, I mainly use it with two hands. I don't text or use the phone while driving so I never need to use it with only one hand.

I had the s3 before this too. I was absolutely blown away by how much longer the battery life lasts over the s3. That's the best way to tell considering I do everything in did with the S3, even have my home screens set up the same.

LOL, no kidding.
We bought a 60" rear projection Sony Wega about 9 years ago (I was in the TV/stereo business for years and still got everything wholesale at that time) and everybody who saw it was dumbfounded.
Now, it still looks pretty big but my Son and I where looking at a 90" Samsung at BestBuy recently and thinking ours looks kinda small........
My friends make fun of me by holding ridiculously sized rectangle objects (like books) to their ear and acting like they are on the phone Lol....however the ooohs and ahhhhs follow with the capabilities of this phone....its hard to gauge in the store especially if they have a security cord attached. Just grab one... There is a return policy if you dont like it...also stop worrying about what people think of you...I've been providing haters with job security since 1980... I'm an equal opportunity employer. Ha
