Reviews look good too.

Can you give some feedback on how the charging goes with the original adapter and this cable? (If you have any).
I have no issues charging my tablet with a custom adapter and various cables, but only the original asus ones work properly with the asus adapter (well, until the cable breaks and then it doesn't trigger the 12v anymore... have about 3 of those cables now).
So looking for good replacement cables, but most don't switch between 5v and 12v...

These look like the same cables people were selling on eBay which generally gave people mixed results with regards to charging. Some people reported that they worked fine while others said that they screwed up the Prime and made it unusable when it was plugged in. It seems they have generally poor quality control.

i've looked around and they go for around 20 bucks...
overpriced as hell... where can i buy this cable cheap? thinking of buying couple.
Since the connector is proprietary and not a lot of 3rd parties have started making them they can be hard to find. You will have better results if you look for a cable fro the original TF101 Transformer as the cables are the same.
Here is one on eBay for about $13
You should note, that if you are hoping to charge your tablet you will be much better off buying an Asus wall charger since using the cable to charge by USB will take a very long time and won't work while you are using the tablet. Similarly iPhone chargers and similar USB wall adapters will also be very slow and won't work while you are using the tablet.
You can buy additional wall chargers from Office Depot. I have purchased several and they have very fast shipping.

[Q] Gary Key - Car Charger Question

Hi Gary,
I would like to have a car charger for the Prime. I've seen a couple 3rd party ones that may work....However, I DO NOT WANT TO BURN UP MY PRIME.
I was wondering if ASUS had a recommendation of a reliable one, or maybe even had one in the early stages of development.
Thanks,
Bob
While you wait for an answer I charge my tablet on the go with one of these
http://www.amazon.com/PowerDrive-RP..._3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1333830174&sr=1-3
It's a different one but same functionality. I always have it in my truck and has totally replaced the need for me to have any dedicated mobile chargers. Worked fine for my prime on a recent road trip.
Thanks....I already have an inverter, which I will use if necessary, but with a passenger in the car, the front seat area gets a little crowded....geez.....maybe I ought to put her in the back seat.
Since the car runs off of a 12v battery, it should be relatively easy for ASUS to produce a charger designed for the Prime.

Might not be too bad an idea
Though yes I agree. It would be easy enough for them to make one just has to be financially sound.
Can be totally wrong now.
Prime Needs 11+ volt to charge in normal speed.
A Phone or the standard chargers with a usb port that you can find anywhere usually output 5V.
People swap charger back and forth between their phones or other devices that have USB connection on the charger.
If Asus release a charger for Prime that Output 11+ volt I don't think it would be to good if people plugged there phones that only need 5V.
And I pretty sure that people will try to use it and don't look at the specifications of the charger and the specifications of their device. They will just plugg it in expect it to work. And after their phone broke they will blame Asus for release a charger that don't work with other devices.
And if Asus release a charger that don't have a removable cable and that only fits Prime. Folks will be made about that to.
Just some late night thoughts.

Correct...It would have to be a dedicated cable to cigarette lighter .....not a removeable cable.

Shouldn't be a problem, the prime charger and usb cable are designed so that it wont cause issues with other devices. If you look carefully at the charger and/or usb cable you can see 9 contacts rather than 4. If you plug a standard usb cable in to the prime charger it will only make a connection with the 4 contacts not all 9.
Car adaptor can be made the same way so it will provide 5 volts on a standard cable using the 4 contacts and 11 volts when all 9 contacts are in use.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
I use one i bought from radio shack, with changeable tips (outputs 12v/1a), in combination with an usb tip (extra attachment bought separately) , altogether about $20.
I plug the prime's usb charging cable straight into the usb attachment, and it's been working just fine.
Nobody else uses that charger but me, and it stays in my car, so i m not concerned about other people's phones getting burned out XD.

PowerGorilla and Transformer Prime

Just a quick note to say this works with the Prime: https://powertraveller.com/iwantsome/spares/dctofemaleusbcable/
Using this the PowerGorilla charges the Prime; with the normal USB output it doesn't.
That's all fine and well. Your link is for an adapter that costs less than $10 to use with the Power Gorilla.
HOLY SHEEP ****. A Power Gorrilla charger unit is (at least on Amazon) $225. I s'pose the adapter you linked is useful if you already have a Power Gorilla, but I think you're just better off getting an additonal keyboard dock as a backup battery, given the cost.
Yes I wasn't recommending you buy the PowerGoriila just for charging the Prime.
I got the PG primarily to charge my laptop as it's about the same price as a spare laptop battery. It also charges most of my other equipment, now including my tablet, which means I only have to carry one power adaptor around.

Making a charger for Prime

Hi,
If you lost your charger for the prime would this work to charge the prime too or the keyboard dock ?

If you lost your charger, you would be better off buying a new one from a place like Office Depot (http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/768723/ASUS-Power-Adapter-For-Eee-Pad/). It would be safer and it would probably be better for your the longevity of your Prime.
Something like the charger shown in the video might work OK for the Prime. I say "might" because the Prime expects 15v not 12v and generally won't enter "charging mode" from only 12v. However it will still charge the tablet, just more slowly than the original Asus charger.
I build a charger for my car from a similar setup to what is in the video. I followed the directions that are in the ultimate accessory guide post. My charger switches to 15V so it charges at the normal rate. Mine also has a USB port so I can charge my phone at the same time.
i got my second charger from ebay. cost me $15, its was a new in box asus transformer wall charger. Now i have two and dont worry about it.

I dont think its the prime thats entering "charging mode" but rather the charger itself that gets thrown into "Charge Mode". There is a connection at the 40 pin connector that goes from ground back to the charger, i do believe THAT is what makes the charger output 15v instead of 5v so it doesnt fry your other USB devices.
There are many people who have used home made chargers for their prime. Look for a thread talking about the pinout of the 40pin connector and you can find more. Hope this helps.

Asus TF201 compatible multi USB charger

Hi everybody,
I need a multi USB port charger which also supports my TF201.
Finding ones is not that hard, but non of the 4 to 6 port chargers support the TF201 for any reason. Tested two of them now, every other device just works fine, but not my TF201.
Any product ideas which could work?
Thanks
The TF201 needs 15v to charge and you won't find a multi port charger that can supply this.
I know it's an older post, but I found that the Tronsmart charger model: TS-WC3PCB was able to charge my TF201, and 2 other devices. It also has Quickcharge 2.0 (if you have a newer Samsung device).
I used it with a USB 3.0 cord that I also purchased third party. PWR+ I believe was the maker of the USB cord I used.
I also had problems finding a power source that could feed it, but I found that the combination of these 2 worked well.
Hope this helps! (Also this is my first post or reply, I am normally just a reader).
Hi krmarion,
what did you do, to make the Prime charge?
I own the exact same charger, Tronsmart TS-WC3PC having the "Quick-Charge" port supplying 5V/2A, 9V/2A or 12V/1,5A, but none of my devices TF-201, TF-101, TF-701 will charge using their original cables. All of them charge fine with the ASUS chargers, as well a DIY 12V using the same cables.
You mentioned an additional USB 3.0 cord you are using - is that somehow modified? Does your Prime charge, if you plug its cable directly into the charger?
tnx for your help!
My thought is
You should not to use other charger for safety. It will damage the battery of device and your safe.
