I ran into a pocket of LTE today in KC as I was driving into work. Here are the speed test results.

Here are some additional results from KC. 13Mbps is the best result to date. Sprint seems to be testing/tweaking as the results have fluctuated from 0Mbps (connected with a strong signal but no data would move) to 11Mbps with 8-9 being typical.
My 3g has had a tremendous boost in some places. I historically average 250kbps, but have been seeing as high as 1.6Mbps (that would be a 6x improvement in performance). I assume this is also the result the Network Vision upgrades.
I only started seeing 4g and improved 3g after an involuntary service update was pushed to my phone. When it was done, I couldn't see any changes to PRL, profile, etc so I don't know exactly what it changed. The service update happended around midnight and the next morning I started to notice the 4g icon. I probably wouldn't have known about the service update if I didn't happen to be using my phone at that moment. Did this happen to you?
I am praying that we get at least above 10Mbps on an average when LTE is turned on everywhere else.
Loved the OG EVO when it was first released but I saw wimax speeds drop more and more as more subscribers came on board.
Where in KC is this? Might need to experience this pre-launch LTE madness for myself...

I was at 75th and Main in the Waldo area when I ran into this.
I was near K-7 and K-10. On the S4GRU site, another person reported getting an LTE signal at 135th & Blackbob.
I can confirm the 135th & Blackbob ... but that was back on launch day. I haven't been back since. Also, my speeds weren't comparable to others' LTE speeds. Is there some LTE air-rave in the Sprint corporate store at 135th and Blackbob? That seemed to be where my signal was centered at the time.
Few weeks back I saw the 4g icon down off 151st in Olathe.
Couldn't run a speedtest, the connection was in and out so much. Have been back since, and no longer get the 4g signal.
I'm over on the Missouri side. Seen intermittent Lte for the past few days all around town. 3g speeds jumped for me since a week ago. Was averaging 20-35kbs now at 1.5-3Mbs on average.

Here in Blue Springs I got LTE for about 30 minutes. I didn't actually realize it until about 10 minutes before it went bye bye. :/

I second the 3G speed improvements, although not as drastic of an increase is higher populated areas.

That's great, Blue Springs is my home town. I'm living by BassPro, kind of the same thing here, I didn't realize it till right before it cut out. Between my girlfriend and I, we've picked it up all over Independence. She had it for a couple hours by Arrowhead stadium. Only in the past couple days and definitely random and intermittent.

Down by Power and Light district had it up a few times right after we got our phones on release day. Haven't seen it there since, I bet its going to be functional on the fifteenth though. Downtown, anywhere near the 435 loop and near most all major highways should be covered as well.
That's all speculation of course, based solely on the few places I have seen it and past experience.
They seem to be following the same pattern as they did when they rolled out wimax. Locally at least.

From the rumor mill... All of Kansas city will be getting it as of July 25-27... And Lawrence and Topeka areas in the following months... We will see then again it is Sprint.

Holy 3g speeds Batman!
I can't say I've ever experienced 3g this fast before. These Vision upgrades may be worth something after all.

Indeed getting better although this phone has a much better 3G radio in my opinion vs the 3D. My 3D never came even close to 2+. Granted this test was at 4 in the morning but still. I actually beat out a family members verizon phone we tested on the 4th 3G of course. Even if I could get 1+ down without any drops in connection I would be pretty happy. Things are getting better still can't wait for LTE.
Very impressive. Fast 3G speeds will help us keep patient as we await 4G LTE.:good:

That really isn't that good bro....
Sure you hit just under 10 Mbit ONCE (change speedtest in settings to Mbit, not kbps) but there is ZERO repeatability, most of what you show is 3-4Mbit.
I've actually downloaded a file while tethered and got just over 1.1Mbit download speed (about 1300kbps) and it held that speed for the entire 2 gig d/l.
Umm, it was a linux iso.....yea, that's it.
Remember, there is bits and bytes and a k is 1024, not 1000 and stuff....
My Evo 4g and my Evo3d both did about the same speed and my Tmo Vibrant would run at 7-8 Mbit and NEVER fluctuate from that.
I do agree that the radios are much improved over my EVO OG
I can connect to 4g at my house where the clearwire maps show coverage but my evo or my wifes epic could never connect
My data streams are much more consistent as well.
I am hitting those speeds pretty much every time I speed test at that location- and sometimes faster.
Signal strength is generally improved as well and with the latest update I am a believer in the better wifi signal too
Wimax is really a joke. I mean its better than nothing but still, my friend from Finland got to try out an upcoming wireless carrier. He downloaded off their LTE network for 49 megabits per second. THAT IS FASTER THAN MY CABLE CONNECTION!
I don't think our radios really have an effect on the download speeds, I believe that for now, that what you are seeing is the limitation of our bandwidth.
Lol wimax is not a joke you seem to think the speed of the layer 2 wireless link between the phone and tower is the slow leg
Ever think it the carrier internet pipe an traffic

yeah, here in houston tx im getting 8.5Mbps on 4G and just over 2Mbps on 3G. Im very happy finally seeing the 6-10MBps mark for the 4G. on my EVO, i never used the 4g bc it was a batt killer, slow to connect, and didnt give much more speed. max i ever saw with my EVO was 4-5Mbps in the same location im seeing 8.5 on the Photon. def a great phone!
Its about time sprint offered a worldwide android phone, and ever better yet, its a MOTO. Ive wanted a moto for 10 years now. always used and loved the durability of the MOTO phones with nextel. they can take a beating in the field. Plus MOTO has been in realations with android since the beginning and they got their stuff down. I
Ill fight with any bugs on this phone and super excited to see what the DEVs are able to do with the code. there will and is faster fonest out, but more speed will chew more power. I think with this cpu, and battery life, GSM and CDMA radios, this phone has a LOOONG life and a long way to go. i hope she grows more interest to people and stays around for a long time. so far, im a happy MOPHO user
Im looking forward to traveling. last two months i spent alot of time in japan and Malaysia. def looking forward to buyin a SIM card, slappin it in and having good cell signal instead of climbing a 20+ story building to catch a faint cdma signal from who knows where lol

My point was not showing consistent dl. I mentioned upload. The cap is at 1500 yet this photon burst thru that.
And anyone would know how consistent cell network can be hour to hour..
I actually live in a great 4g city and I get speed higher than most claim. And consistently. & check out that ping too

Woke up this morning to see a message stating my phone updated on its own. Scared me because I'm rooted and everything. I didn't notice any changes though. I can't remember the exact message but it did say service update. Did a speed test on 3g and found 1mbps down. I used to get 400k.
I'm just south of Chicago btw.
I got the same update, anyone know what its for?
Woke up this morning to the same message about a service update. Whatever they did is very nice. Download and upload speeds seem to both be much improved but whats even more impressive is the ping time which is vastly improved. I don't think I've ever seen ping times that fast on 3G. As you can see in my sig even 4G ping times have been much slower.

I saw something similar last night around 10:30 PM EST. I clicked "cancel" or whatever as soon as I saw it pop up, but I think I was too late. I had been running CM for several weeks, but just flashed a Synergy ROM to have something different a day or so ago. Just my luck that they would send out a non-optional update during a time when I'm on a Sense ROM. I suspect an AOSP ROM wouldn't have been affected. Anyway, I haven't noticed any significant changes in speed, but have yet to really test it. I wonder if this is part of the whole Network Vision thing?
Got the same service message as well (Chicago area phone currently in Sioux Falls - affiliate network Swiftel)
Same here - service update in B'more.
sub100ms ping and 1.3mbps up/ 800kbps down ... ON 3G!!!
WOW...
I'm skeptical/cynical though - where is the bitter that comes with the sweet?
Also, sorry for sort of a double post if anyone plans to complain. I was getting ready for work when I did this and didn't even look at other posts.
Now that that's out of the way... I kinda kept an eye on my service on my way to work, which is a 50 minute drive through the country roads, but still close enough to the city that i'm not in the boonies. Was streaming Pandora to get a feel for it, but as soon as I got a mile or 2 away from home, service dropped to 1x, but full bars. It stayed that way until I got to work... maybe they're still working on things here.
Got the update here. Same old garbage 100k to 300k speeds south of Tampa. If anything, my signal strength seems worse. Used to have 1 bar sometimes blinking the second. Now I have zero sometimes blinking the first.
Mike
I got the "...service updated" Message last night around 10:30 CST (KC/Central Mo area). PRL is the same version as before. I have NEVER seen a dialogue message like this before, ever, with sprint. I am on a rooted custom ROM as well. SO much for thinking we have "total" control of our devices.
3G speed tests today show consistently faster downstream. I'll continue testing.

My Evo 3d is hitting over 2 MB with pings under 100. My Evo 4g is around 1 MB with varying pings. I am running MikG 2.59 on the Evo 4g. The service update looks like they enhanced the 3g speeds for the Evo 3d IMO.

Well, I am begrudgingly happy for you. LOL
Actually, I guess that the location is moot since I haven't received the update.
I have also done the 3g speed tweak from the old Evo 4g days. Both my 4g and 3d have it. Ive been watching the Evo 4g forum to see if any1 has gotten the service update.
Got the forced update in Sacramento this morning. My 3G signal is much improved in my office. 100ms ping, 1.32Mbps down, .37mbps up. Before I could hardly connect at all.
So I'm thinking something must have changed...
Oh, 4g still sucks though.
MASSIVE improvement here:
before always >300ms and never 1mbps down (generally 300-600) or 300kbps up...
NOW
all day on different towers <80ms; almost 2mbps down; and approaching 1mbps up
Near Baltimore/Ellicott City
I don't see any chatter on the evo og, evo shift, epic 4g, ... re the update.
BUT - It does seem some evo3ds are unaffected - still 300ms pings and horrible down speeds.

I live in Minnesota, there is Wimax coverage in the cities that I use a lot.
I know Sprint is rolling out new tower updates, but I don't think they have done jack squat in Minnesota.
I currently have a Epic 4G Touch with AOKP, my 3G speeds are horrible everywhere. I would be lucky if 3G speeds are .20 Mbps. The saving grace is Wimax that I use everyday for work. My work internet is slow, so I tether my Wimax, speeds are decent.
With that said, the EVO 4G LTE isn't even Wimax compatible, and I have no clue when they are going to start 3G tower upgrading let alone LTE here in Minnesota.
What's the point of having a data plan if I have to be on Wifi to use the phone effectively.
So to you owners without LTE and their new 3G, how are you handling it?
having this same dilemna. 3g is so so in my are. usually b/t 200-400kbps.
We have wimax but its not all that great either. I love my epic touch 4g but im just ready for something new. Decisions.
I love this EVO & I have good 3G.
If you have WiMAX now, dismal 3G & you aren't in a 1st, 2nd or pending wave NV/LTE region (don't focus on the city name on the rollout list, if you're near the city, you're fine) I say no.
Test the EVO LTE's speed in store as it runs 3G better, just to get an idea on if you could tolerate that performance, vs judging from your existing phone.

I have no WiMAX in my area so LTE won't matter to me. 3g is fast enough around here for when I'm not on WiFi.

its worth it. get the phone if you can.
i leave wifi on. this phone utilizes wifi so well and is so energy efficient compared to the evo 4g. im amazed. so i just leave it on.
3g gets turned on when im away from the house.
by the looks of it, lte round 2 rollout will probably be sooner than i thought. hopefully.
Well the short of it is if you truly use wimax every day and you are not in one of the first cities then keep your current phone...otherwise you'll have to go to wifi or suffer through the 3G in your area...

Yes.
I live in Minnesota (Eagan) and here are my recent results from a few minutes ago. With my nexus s 4g I never broke 1.2Mbps down and up was usually around 350 kbps. Something is better about the 3g in this phone. I can't believe the up results.

thank you for that info, i live in columbia heights and the 3g is so bad here its a joke. Would you say the call quality (dropped calls etc) is better vs your old device? I've only made two calls and they were both good. I discovered during the calls the tiny microphone hole is easy to cover with my pinky though which annoyed me but i will get used to that. I never had problems on my old phone with dropped calls though.
No.
Is it even worth it if you live in an area without LTE anytime soon?
No. After the newness wears off, it's just another late model Android phone. Seriously.
If it were on VZW's LTE network, it would be worth all the accolades. But on Sprint's third world data network, it's no faster than any other smartphone on their network. Sure apps open quickly, but need data? Get ready for the scrolling progress wheel.
I have one. It's a pleasure to hold, but I use my Droid 4 when I leave the house. It's world's faster than the EVO.
A separate question is, why would anyone be on Sprint, if not for price, these days? I know that's why I'm on it.
(And for the masses 'satisfied' with 3g - Sprint has you right where they want you. I'm sure there were lots of people on dial-up saying "I don't need DSL" 15 years ago... The difference is night and day.).
Figured they'd flip the switch in Atlanta already, in time for their delayed launch. No such luck!
If you want the best phone on the market today that will function until 800 LTE arrives then this phone is for you. This phone IMHO future proof until 2014 LTE roll out. SVDO, and HD voice smooth fluid software interaction, excellent appearance screen wise, build quality, and weight makes this the best Android phone on the market.
This is my opinion from ny handling it yesterday in a Sprint store. SGIII may be faster, but other than "SPEED" the EVO 4g LTE has feature thatmost people will love to have. The number one feature that it has is SVDO, number two HD voice future hardware built in.
If I needed a phone today even if it didn't have LTE this is the one to have! If I don't need a phone I could wait, and I am waiting, but I am leaning towards this and in a few weeks if there are no bugs.......my Photon in immaculate condition is out!
I would say it depends on the way you use your phone.
If you use data intensive apps like I do (netflix, plex, youtube) then no.
I use wimax multiple times thru out my day so I would sorely miss it.
I pr-ordered one from Wirefly because $119 was just too good to pass up.
But cancelled later on because I would be kicking myself after newness wore off and I was stuck on 3G for thenext couple of months until LTD is expected to be launched in NYC.
I say yes for obvious reasons but the one fun fact about this phone is.....You can talk AND surf the web at the same time on 3G!! I see people get upset about the fact they don't have LTE yet or it's not coming to their area anytime soon. Lest we forget my fellow EVO users we did the SAME EXACT THING when the OG EVO was released. WiMax was a big deal but at least LTE is rolled out already in some places. WiMax was non-existent at that time and that didn't stop any of us from pre-ordering and waiting in line for that breakthrough in technology. This phone is no different. It's cutting edge technology and, TRUST ME, when you use the phone and see that screen, you're not gonna give a rat's bottom about LTE. You would, like me, stick to WiFi or 3G and be cool with it until LTE comes to your town the same way we did with WiMax. This phone is light years ahead of the OG and the speed and functionality are unmatched, in my opinion. I find a new feature everyday and I've had my phone since the 25th. I say try it and feel it out. You don't like it return it for your money within the Return Policy and wait for the next big thing. You have nothing to lose and you can see for yourself if you wanna keep it or wait. I can almost guarantee once you use it, it's almost impossible to go back to the OG.
So since everyone else has started their threads on LTE in their area I decided to start my own on why I cannot get any what so ever. I've been trying since Sunday and have only connected to LTE briefly twice. Once in the medical center and once by my house on the NW side of town, near West Rd. & Queenston. Both times were standing outside and I had to update profile in order to get the signal. I tried a speed test and was getting ~2.4 mbps down before losing the signal.
I'm not impressed. Hopefully it'll get better soon...
Nothing in Kingwood either. According to S4GRU http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ Houston is only 14% complete. Pretty weak launch numbers. If you are a contributor to the site you can see where the live towers are.

yeah, being a sponsor at s4gru.com, it seems that the current coverage is VERY thin..should be much better in a couple of weeks when sprint accepts more towers from the vendor.
There is LTE in Houston, but it is very very spotty. I get it outside of my work building, but nowhere near my home in Montrose, nor in the Medical Center. I drove from Bellaire to Westheimer and Fountain View with not one 4G signal along the way. WTF?! Sprint is dropping the ball big time.

I caught 4G at the end of kingwood drive near riverwood on 7/15. Measured about 8/3.
Edit: OP, seriously, just chill. They turned on *some* towers on 7/15, but they're nowhere near done. Estimated 100% completion for houston is february 2013. Don't get all pouty about a brand-new service that you haven't been able to use yet. Very, VERY few of us have stable LTE connections.
No 4g for me out here in the Wilcrest/Briar Forest area.

I got 4G from downtown to ~610 on I-10W. I noticed that I had to toggle airplane mode when it got stuck on 3G in order to get it back to 4G.
No LTE on the east side. I was able to get LTE for one minute yesterday July 15th around I-10 and Taylor. Here is the speedtest I took when I had LTE for one minute.

I live in sugar land and have yet to see my phone say 4g. It makes me wonder why they show such a large are covered on their coverage map. Shouldn't the map reflect current coverage and not sprint's hopes and dreams?

yeah, being a sponsor at s4gru.com, it seems that the current coverage is VERY thin..should be much better in a couple of weeks when sprint accepts more towers from the vendor.

vendors... do remember there are three. From what I have "heard" there are also a number of towers ready to go, just waiting on one key element
I second that...give it a few weeks and even beyond that...it is going to continue to get better from here..

The maps still showed "coming soon" last I checked. The media had kind of run wild with the limited soft launch information Sprint provided...has left consumer expectations very high. I am sure Sprint wants it up and running just as quickly as the customers do.
Everyone concerned with lte should follow and actually read the developments of the network that s4gru.com posts and chill out.
Example as follows (credit to Robert most definitely for his tweets and the entire S4GRU site)
S4GRU EDITORIAL: C'mon people, you really do want access to the LTE network early, right? http://t.co/H9PlCARf -- Sprint 4G Rollout (@Sprint4Grollout)

No, vendor. There are three vendors, but only one in the Houston market. The vendors dont seem to share markets.
I do get where u are coming from. And Robert has a point as well. But from what everyone is going through I really don't blame them for being a bit frustrated. This isn't even a decent launch. From what I hear no one is getting constant lte. If this was a month ago then it would be understandable but not for a hyped up nationwide launch.

OK, I am blown away at how fast T-Mobile 4G LTE is.
I get crazy speeds. Like over 85Mbps. I even get over 100Mbps at times. That's faster then my Comcast. LOL [emoji1] T-Mobile really does have the fastest 4G LTE in the Nation. I am loving T-Mobile service. Beats Sprint Spark LTE. Anyways what do you guys think? [emoji4]

Here's my speedtest,from Cumming,Georgia
sorry won't let me attach a photo!
That has yo be a temporary glitch. Dont get used to those speeds. I think they would advertise speeds like that. Best i get is 19 mbs.

I get high 70's in South East Texas
Mid 40s to low 70s constantly for me depending on where I am.
My speeds are definitely not the fastest in the world but they are pretty darn fast!!

Seattle/Kent Washington area. Always get 60Mbps+ compared to Sprint Spark Fast Network at 12Mbps max. Lol Sprint really Blows! Lol ?
My speed test WiFi is Comcast with my own WiFi box and second pic is my abismal tmobile lte speed....
Sorry idk why it decided to upload images twice like that ...
I get around 50 down and 10ish up with my G900T on AT&T in Scottsdale, AZ.
Also, around 50. I'm in Lake Ridge, Northern Virginia -just 20 minutes from Washington DC. T-Mobile in the last year has really boost the speed in this area, a year ago I got less than 10 Mbps.
Hahaha this is what I get . Im in Georgia south of Atlanta

I get close to that depending on what part of my city I'm in. Normally I get high 20's to low 40's.
Considering network load during the daytime, that's pretty good for most carriers. At night I can go above 70.

These are indeed crazy numbers. Only after the recent software upgrade did my speeds go up into the mid 20's. I tried multiple phones in the last year and a half trying to get higher than 5-7 mbps. Just gave up and pegged it to being in a low spot at my residence (?). I posted here that I thought that a trip to the USVI summer before last had screwed up my data speed on Tmo's side. They told me twice that my settings on their end were screwy.
I'm not a power user so never really had performance that I was unhappy with overall. I love my S5. I have been seeing these low speeds when I check with Speedtest. Just got a refurbed Note3 (which I like a lot) and my speedtest tells me it is giving me between 13 and 24 over 4 tests. I'm happy with that.
Have never in nearly two years of LTE here seen anything over 28 mbps, so 80 is pretty impressive indeed.
Also a question-My Speedtest app's "odometer" tops out at 50mbps.......?
wish I could get that high of speed
Usually only get 18Mb/sec down and 7 up. Called them and they said it was pretty much the only tower north of the river here in Kansas City that was LTE enabled. YAY me...../sarcasm
Over my wifi, I get the usual 100Mb/sec down and 6 up as that is what I pay Time Warner for. So no complaints there.
Using Twizted Lollipop 5.0 V1 as well on my S5.
Super fast.
Cali speed suks. ..
From home I get 70+... fastest speedtest was 106mbps. So insane and way faster than the 40mbps with comcast which I always thought was unbeatable in the area.
So anyone getting throttled for downloading torrents or other stuff. A few months ago I posted a link saying tmobile would throttle your data if they find out your using your unlimited 4g Lte to download stuff. Well it's been a few months and I'm still going strong. I still can't believe Tmobile Is faster then Comcast. That's just crazy. Wonder how Sprints data service is going. Lol not the Spark network is complete crap. Sprint Says The Spark is the nation's fastest data service. They must be smoking to much crack. Because I know some people that have Sprints Spark LTE data service and it can't even get 10Mbps most of the time. And the data goes off and on all day long. I even tried Sprint Spark network with the Galaxy s5 and after a week I gave it back and switched back to tmobile. So T-Mobile Rocks!
I can confirm that I too get pretty fast speeds. I was blown away a few days ago with these results!

And of course this is with my S4. I just bought my S5 today since my S4 broke today.
