Get guys...I finally got the bootloader unlocked, time to root! I had planned to use the method by hasoon 2000 but after I downloaded winrar I tried to get his toolkit and it won't let me in the download page. Any ideas and is this the best method for perm s off?

Thanks! I asked on that particular thread, but you seem to have alot if knowledge on it, so I'll just ask here as well. Since I already have bootloader unlocked, do I just jump right over to the recovery selection, then to perm root? Also.. when do I need to plug my phone in and do I need to be just normal on or in the screen from volume down and power? Does it give superuser and busy box? Sorry about all the dumb noob questions, just don't want to brick this thing.

At least you're being nice about it, that counts for something, okay here goes:
1. Yes, go straight to recovery because you'll need it to root.
2. Rooting only gives you super user, not busybox, but you can always download busybox from the android market
3. You can be on normal screen or fastboot, it doesn't matter, the tool will detect which one you are on and reboot it into whichever screen it needs. Remember to turn usb debugging on so the tool can find the phone.
4. You can't brick if you're not s-off
You can also have a look see in the amaze bible thread, we give a lot of info about this device in there, I'd be happy to help you once you are willing to work with me as well and once you read instructions veeerry carefully before trying anything.
Gotta be nice when asking dumb questions! Lmao!!! I'm not completely new to this, my G2 was rooted and I was a flashaholic...Lol. For some reason, this just seems much more daunting.

Ignore the kernel option unless you're installing a new rom, no you don't need to backup if you're just rooting the device, but you can make a backup and keep it just in case you need it, it's not that daunting when you get the hang of it like I did, this was my very first HTC device, so unlike you, I didn't have a little previous experience lol.
Coachmoore - its safe to have atleast one backup before flashing a different Rom. Just in case the Rom you want to flash might of downloaded corrupt or if you get stuck in bootloops.
If you're using 4EXT recovery then don't worry about kernel flashing. It will flash it for you. Any other recovery won't.
Just he sure to let it boot 2times before thinking anything is wrong.
Edit...damnit I take too long to reply..lol

Ok,2 more questions and i promise ill shut up. I was gonna use a new rom so is that what it means by flash kernel? And it says this doesnt give s-off... i thought that was rooting. What is the difference? The whole reason for wanting to root is to use differe3nt roms, oc, etc... can u do that with s-on?

When in recovery, choose the backup/restore option to backup your current rom. S-off is not the same as rooting, read the amaze bible thread to know the difference of the two.

4EXT is a touch recovery. There's a thread in the Development section. Read the OP of it. There should be screen shots of how its supposed to look like.

I know s_off was needed for custom roms and to flash recoveryfor the g2.
Am I correct to think I need s_off to flash roms/kernels/mods?

S-off is not needed for anything really, other than flashing custom splash screens.
Install 4Ext recovery and it will flash kernels for you in recovery just as a recovery on a device with s-off would. IF you are unlocked and have a custom recovery you should be good to go, if the recovery is CWM I and nearly everyone here would advice you to switch to 4Ext just to make your life easier with wifi problems.
You can flash roms how your phone is right now through recovery with no problem though.
Sweet. Was used to needing soff for the g2. And I agree 4ext is awesome.
Just to make sure flashing is done the same as on my g2 through recovery right?
Thanks

Not the same. After you unlock the bootloader, you can root the phone (SuperUser App).
Follow these instructions starting from post 3 to get a custom recovery and root access.

No, cwm was never officially ported to the amaze, use 4ext recovery, its simpler, official and the touch version is the simplest thing ever.

I'll give you one advantage of 4EXT that no other recovery has, it can flash kernels even though you are s-on, but hey as I always say, it's all down to personal preference, if you feel comfortable with cwm, then stick with it, it's all down to comfort, IMO, which is the primary key in advanced android experience and modification.

4EXT is basically a modified and developed CWM specifically for the amaze, with advantages since it's officially developed to work with it other than a port. On the point of hasoon's tool, you just have to try try again until it works, it's a hit and miss thing with some options but try try until it works, that happens to the best of us. Mainly with some ROMS like ARHD, that have kernel included, they require 4ext since a lot of users are s-on and only 4ext can flash kernels in that state.

In that case, I'd advise you to get titanium backup and uninstall anything you don't need, becareful to check the forum list for things that can be uninstalled first. Or you can use es explorer like I did and delete the files from system/app folder.

if you can't get to fastboot then you have the zip from another file on there. delete that then in order to get that certain rom to work you have to extract the roms boot.img and fastboot flash on pc.

Personally I don't know if that would help, well....actually I don't see why it wouldn't cuz the s-off process will wipe everything.. I'd say do it and flash somethin fresh, don't nandroid after.. try a sense 4 Rom fresh.. if it still doesn't go id try flashjg another aosp Rom that is known not to cause this problem your havig, then try flashing s4 again.. Hello,
So whats going on is my QI wireless on my phone stopped charging. so i called verizon to get a replacement which they are overnighting tonight to me. so my question is, is there a way (step by step) to just put the Orignal Recovery Flash rom back on the phone and just lock the bootloader without resetting the phone? if so and do that. well the tamper disappear on the phone as well? ?? because they want the phone how it is. they dont want me to do a phone reset so they can see what cause the problem...
So 2nd question if i don't fix the rooting and ship the phone as is to verizon. Do you think i well get charged for rooting my phone???
Thanks!
Flash a stock rom and kernel, restore all your apps and stuff, delete any root apps, remove supreuser/SuperSU, flash the stock recovery, and relock if you feel like it. If you all that you should be good.
Or just ruu and relock your phone. As long as the problem still persists they won't care that you wiped it.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I hope the new one doesn't come updated because if so you won't be able to root. I would restore the old one and see if the wireless charging works again if so you might want to keep it if the new one is updated.

Are you flashing the boot img in fastboot before installing in recovery? Most sense roms are over 500mb and have the same kernel so it boots up fine without flashing the boot img before hand. Aosp roms will require you to flash the boot img before hand if you're s-on

^This. You will need to put the boot.img in your ADB tools folder on your computer, put the phone in fastboot USB mode and use the command 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' to flash the kernel to your phone. A better solution is to get S-off so you don't have to mess with flashing the kernel separately .

I know it can be scary, but you have to read the forum(s) and/or watch the video(s). Since you took the trouble to register on this site, don't rush and take the time to learn and understand by reading, reading, and more reading. It's not an overnight thing, but it does come eventually. It took me 6 months before I began to have a decent understanding of what I was doing with my first PC...
No offense, but we can't hold your hand as you cross the street. You have to take those first steps yourself. Read carefully, make notes that YOU will understand a day later... but you must take the responsibility for what happens to your phone.
Can you tell I'm a parent? :silly:
