I decided to bring my prime to work today and can’t seem to connect to the wifi here. My Thunderbolt and ipod connect to it just fine, but when I put the password in and press connect on my tablet, essentially nothing happens. It just goes back to the main wifi screen where I can choose it again and can select either Connect, Forget or Cancel. I tried forgetting and re-entering the pw. I did a soft reboot and it still doesn’t do anything when trying to connect.
I am running on AndroWookie, and have had this problem in the past but it would eventually connect on the 2nd or 3rd try.
What I find strange is that it still seems to remember my old SSID’s I’ve connected to in the past even though I did a full wipe of all data and formatted.
I can connect at home without issue, so I was wondering if there are any tricks I can use to make my prime connect to wifi here.
Thanks!
I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago, my Prime would not connect to 2 different wifi networks even when I typed in the SSID & password manually. Very discouraging!

Have you tried to add network manually in wifi settings.

I will try this tomorrow. It seems strange that it can't or has trouble connecting to certain public wifi networks. My phone doesn't have this problem and they both have the same signal (checking in wifi testing app).
What is the strength of the networks? I often get this when the network is (very) weak...

Hey guys,
I have a problem with my wifi...
Here is the before: Wifi works about 70% of the time, occasionally the connection would be dropped (as in "no network access", it still said it was connected).
Here is what then happened (in that order): Wanted to find a less crowded channel and installed Wifi Analyzer. Quickly decided that Channel 1 would be cool, browsed to the router configuration on the Desktop machine (LAN connection), changed the channel. Back to home on Android (don't remember whether via the home or back button). Into settings to see whether I would have to rescan or whether it would pick up the change of channel itself. It couldn't connect... It scans and attempts to connect, but doesn't
What I tried:
I restarted the Galaxy. Still couldn't connect.
Deleted the connection and re-entered the passphrase. Still couldn't connect.
Uninstalled Wifi Analyzer. Still couldn't connect.
Restarted device again. Still couldn't connect.
(At some point during all this, probably quite early, the Wifi symbol also stopped showing up in the status bar. Doesn't appear no matter whether Wifi is on or off)
Switched back to the channel I came from. To no avail
Switched of encryption on the Wifi. Still to no avail
Any ideas as to what might have happened and, more importantly, how to fix it? As I said the connection itself has never been the most reliable, but this is a different league
Thank you everyone!
Sandro
If you haven't tried it yet, reset your router. That fixes the majority of Wi-Fi issues out there. If that doesn't work, it may be your router itself. Certain routers have more issues with mobile phones than others.
You may want to go to a friends house and try connecting to his router and see if you can troubleshoot and isolate the issue. Either way, best of luck...

Damn you sitecom router!!!
Alright, one thing I hadn't tried until now was to restart the router. That fixed everything including (for whatever reason) the lack of the Wifi symbol!!
So if that is possible feel free to delete this thread! I didn't find the option anywhere...
Sorry for the unjustified disturbance
Sandro
So I know wifi in android is buggy, this isn't a question about that.
My Touchpad won't connect to my wireless network at work. (in webOS or android) It always fails the IP configuration part. My android phone connects fine, and my laptop, and my iPad.
Kind of kills the usefulness of the tablet for me. Wondering if I should call up HP before my 90days are up.
Thanks in advance
I have had no issues with webOS 3.0.2 or 3.0.4 at work or home (and I run a number of access points at both locations). Always connects by itself everytime. Too early to tell with 3.0.5 but no issues so far.
Have you tried other routers? It could be just some issue with your router. Have you tried to manually assign an IP, I know you can in android.

It connects to my home network fine, just not the work one. Tried manually assigning an IP and that didn't work in either OS. Going to install the update to webOS and see if that fixes things.
As poster above mentioned, corporate/work networks seem to be the only thing that webOS MIGHT not play well with occasionally. I've gotten it to successfully connect to my work's 802.1x EAP network. It actually worked quite well, but then sometimes it stumbles a bit before connecting.
For the most part though, webOS wifi works just fine. Of course, this is because HP dev'd it with the drivers they have, that we DONT have, and most likely will never have.
Wifi now connects on both OS's after updating webOS to 3.05
Lol go figure

It hasn't before for you? I'm curious about your experience.
The deal with Wifi in android is multi-faceted:
1. Accessing the wifi options sometimes crashes the thing, and you have to force close the settings app and try again.
2. With Wifi on, the wifi menu can be quite sluggish
3. A lot of times, it wont even scan for networks. It just says disconnected for ages, or will eventually scan, then try to connect, but never get past "Acquiring IP address".
4. A lot of times it will randomly lose its connection, yet still indicate that it's connected just fine. A toggling of the wifi usually fixes this, but also starts you at square 1 with attempting to connect to an AP. For some people, this process can be a nightmare.
5. Some people simply cannot connected to their secured network at all. Period.
Are you experiencing any of these issues still?

Before update:
never had any problems with wifi at all, except it just wouldn't connect to either of my two networks at work in either OS. Neither OS could get past the IP config stage. Tried manually assigning IPs in both OS's but that accomplished nothing. Home 5ghz network zero issues.
After update:
Instant connection, no issues.
So, there's been quite a few threads on several different forums regarding the "Obtaining IP address.." issue. I have followed every single solution by doing the following:
1. Access AllShare and connect to WiFi using AllShare
2. Access Kies and connect to WiFi using Kies
3. Factory Reset (Hard Reset by pressing Volume Keys and Home)
4. Soft Reset (Via Settings, wipe Data)
5. Static IP option
6. Added Note's MAC address to my router
7. Rebooted router
Nothing works! I also tried to connect to another private network without a Key and a public open network, both of them didn't work.
What to do? My brother bought the phone for me from Rogers and I'm still within the 15 days but I've used over 30 minutes of airtime. Also, I don't have the papers, I'll have to ask my brother but I don't live with him anymore..so I'm kinda stuck.
Does anyone else have any solutions? I called Samsung and they said I have to send it for repair =/
Noone?
I usually just toggle wifi on/off if it gets stuck on obtaining IP address.

I wish it was that easy..I tried that a couple of times and it's still not working.

At my home network. I have a wifi Extender. connecting to a wireless router. Working fine. I also have another wireless router acts a bridge mode to have a different SSID, i never be able to connect to this bridge connect. it hang it "Obtaining IP...." all the time nomatter how i try on and off
Doesn't do anything to my Note. Sigh.
Thing is, I can't always adjust my home router but what about other networks? When I go to STarbucks, Mcdonalds, Airports, Hotels, I can't ask them to reboot and all that stuff. I have to exchange this phone!
So my WiFi has been working fine on my prime connecting to any network till yesterday. I went to work, connected to the WiFi network, everything working fine. Then I disconnected from the network and tried to reconnect and it wouldnt connect. All I get is it saying obtaining ip address. I went to my girls after work, same issue there, sees the network but all I get it obtaining ip address and it never goes past that. It does connect to my sensation hotspot though. I hard reset it, even factory reset it and still have the issue...any ideas?

Ever try resetting the router?
I would never have reset over it.. not without rebooting routers/modems first and it sounds like you didnt try this. I get this issue now and then - rare - and a router reboot always fixes it. I never have to resort to drastic stuff like phone or tablet resets. The fact it can talk to your phones hotspot - not router related - even more signals to the router as first place to look.

I agree....this will work for when he's at his "girl's", but the bigger problem is the office network. That can't be rebooted at will.
Best suggestion I have is to go into the Adanced mode, and where an option "modify Network"...choose that....sometimes just hitting SAVE works, sometimes I re-enter the WEP key and hit save.
In worst case, you could say "forget network" and try starting from scratch....
Good luck,
Bob
You sure your work doesn't do any sort of MAC filtering? Maybe something adaptive?
I am away form home now and facing some frustrating issues with my new S3.
1. I cant connect to any WIFI network though the WIFI connection has very good signal strength. I always get the msg 'Network disabled. Poor Connection'. There is nothing wrong with the WIFI as i can connect it with my laptop and my buddy could connect to it using his IPhone.
2. My roaming time is completely wrong. It does not follow the time of the country I am in. It is showing the same time as my home country network. Shouldnt it automatically detect the network and shows the correct time like Iphone?

1. Restart the router & try just using 2.4Ghz in settings > wifi > advanced
2. Ensure: menu > settings > date & time > check [auto date & time] and [auto time zone]

1. I cant restart the router as i am connecting to the Hotel's wifi. Everything else can be connected to it except for this S3. I followed your instructions but it keps showing "Connecting". and nothing else happens.
2.I have already check both auto date & time and auto time zone earlier. But the problem still persists.
Please help
Beginnin to regret my decision to get a S3. So complicating!
If you happen to have a case on, remove it and try again.

Hi, this is my first post, as I created my account specially with the purpose to answer you.
After being faced with the problem all day and reading all possible materials on the topic in google and here, my dad walked in and asked me why he is not able to connect to our home wireless connection.
This was when I retrieved my hope that the problem is not in the phone. And it was not! My iPhone, my laptop were able to obtain a internet connection in contrast to my other laptop and my S3! I restarted the rooter and everything was ok! Everbody got their internet dose !
So, most probably it isn't you!
Also have wifi problem, except it tells me it's an authentication error. I cannot connect to the WiFi unless I stand right next to it. Can't connect to WiFi anywhere (if you think it's the router in my house), even though the device detects the router. Sent it back to Samsung.

Hey, I experienced the same problem. But in my case, I am able to connect to the AP, if I am using a static IP address in the SGS3 instead of DHCP. Same router, no settings changed there. Just configured a static IP.
Cheers,
Jaegermeister
Same problem
Tried everything still not working, took it back to samsung they said it's working fine any other device is connecting without a problem but the S3 wont (i have 15 S3 with this problem)
Thanks
Bring back the phones to Samsung!

I'm also frequently getting the "Network disabled. Poor Connection" message when at home. I have 2 wifi routers:
- Buffalo WHR G54S
- Draytek 2920n
If I turn wifi off/on on the S3 it sometimes resolves the issue, but not always. Sometimes after turning off/on it shows a status of "Connected"but there is no internet connectivity. If I then switch to the other router I can sometimes (but not always) connect successfully.
I'm running Checkrom v5.5, and have tried both the Perseus and Siyah kernels - both have this problem.
