Yes I'm sure, and I was trying to do the d101 update, and this also shows up when I try and do a backup
If you havent already download Rom Manager and reflash CWM. Soemtimes people tell you to flash an older version then reflash the newest version.

Whenever I try to install an older version, I get a message saying "An error occurred while downloading your recovery" I've tried it on 3G and Wifi, and I can download other things just fine.
Do you have the update.zip for CWM still on your sdcard? If so reboot into recovery using the power and volume key, it should take you to the Samsung recovery, then go to apply update.zip.

I just get sent back to CWM and I get the same error. Would removing ROM Manager remove CWM?
In order to have a fully working rom manager, you have to flash the clockworkmod.tar kernal. I was having the exact same issues, I couldn't do a backup or restore. You will have to do odin on your phone.

Exactly.
You cannot install CWM without odin / redbend / etc. There are no shortcuts. Just downloading ROM Manager and hoping that you're special or lucky is not enough to make this work.
Follow the instructions.
I guess I had assumes he had already done that.
Hello all, new user here.
I am trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy SII and am really stuck.
I have rooted the phone, installed ROM Manager and flashed Clockwork MOD Recovery, but when I try to backup my current ROM I see this:
- Initializing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have options to:
reboot system now
apply update from sd card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I am dying to install my new ROM :-(
Any help/advise you can give me will be much appreciated.

You don't have CWM recovery, that's stock recovery.

what's the difference? I thought having cwm installed would automatically work just like any other app..
I'm rooted, using a stock ROM (I'd change it if I got cwm to work), firmware KI8.

For what its worth.. I tried restoring a backup using RM and ended up in "android system recovery" instead of CWM, and also got installation aborted. After a reboot I ended up in CWM and the restore finished. Strange stuff..

The question for post one is as always .
Does the instructions for the custom rom install say install via Rom Manager .
No idea what the rom is so cannot check .
Most of them say root kernel with Chainfires CWM and root Kernel and flash rom via CWM .

You need to flash a kernel that has CWM. This is usually done via Odin or Heimdall. Once you get CWM recovery on your phone you'll be set to flash zip files for ROMs and whatnot.
If you don't know how to flash the kernel.. start at the beginning and read a helpful guide or instructions. Sorry on my phone now and don't have any links handy..

FIRST PAGE SAYS .
If you install for the first time SensatioN ROM, I recommend you to use the WIPE version. The NO WIPE version should be used if you are already on SensatioN ROM or on other fully deodexed ROM.
Before you install SensatioN ROM, make sure that you have CF-ROOT kernel installed on your phone, or ninphetamine.
Steps to install CF-ROOT kernel:
1.Download the kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...8&d=1312203859
2.Power off phone, and enter in DOWNLOAD MODE
3.Put the downloaded zip into PDA section of ODIN, and flash it
4.Let the phone reboot
Steps to install the ROM:
1.Copy the ROM file on your SD card
2.Reboot you Phone into CWM
3.Navigate to Install Zip from SD Card
4.Select Choose ZIP from SD Card
5.Select SensatioN_ROM_by_CRYSIS_i9100_(no)wipe.zip
6.Wait until the ROM is installed and reboot your Phone.
7.If you have any bootloops with the NO WIPE version, you will probably need WIPE .
No mention of ROM MANAGER here maybe you have other instructions or its the usual ??

Hi Everyone,

Hi hassanalsaibai,
Yes it does boot into CWM recovery and i can select the custom rom to intall but as soon as it starts to install is says E:signature verification failed but the blue installation line near the bottom continues to install. It will then stop and nothing else will happen i will leave it for abit longer and see if it continues to install.

Try wiping cache, and dalvik cache -- and check if the ROM description has NO WIPE . If it doesn't have a no wipe feature then you will have to wipe your device.
Bad firmware download redownload .
Nothing at all to do with wiping and their is no you have to wipe your device involved .

I flashed back to stock AT&T, rooted, added Superuser, installed CWM, downloaded the CM9 stable zip from their site, put it on SD (tried internal and external, not that it should make any difference...), and keep getting this:
Installing: /sdcard/cm-9.0.0-quincyatt.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGH-I717" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SGH-I717" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "quincyatt" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "quincyatt"
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-9.0.0-quincyatt.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Was it a bad download, perhaps? Seems unlikely, but you never know I suppose.... The only thing I can come up with is that I'm on kernel 2.whatever and the screenshots I see with 4.0+ have 3.0.8. If this is the problem, how can I get that kernel on my Note before flashing CM9 again?
Please let me know if I'm missing any other important information needed to help solve this awful stock phone problem

No, he needs to update his recovery which can be done via ROM manager if he wants to keep cwm. Twrp 2.2.1.1 also works.
CWM 5.8.4.8 is what ROM manager should install for you. If you give them money ROM manager can install the touch CWM 5.8.4.3. All of these versions work to flash cm9, cm10, or any other ROM.

For the life of me I can't get CWM to update. I got 5.8.4.8 from their site, which is just a recovery img, put it on the SD card as is, didn't do anything, made it a zip to try to run it as update.zip, won't do it. I deleted the existing CWM folders, put the new one on there, and it still loads 5.5.0.4. Tried formatting everything, didn't work. ROM manager won't do anything for me either.

Yeah if you're going to use the .img you have to use adb. The instructions are around.
ROM manager has the option at the top to "flash ClockworkMod recovery" that should install the latest non touch CWM. Did you try that?

I got an error in the command prompt when I tried adb, and I tried to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery in ROM manager but it installed 5.0 (wtf); since I can't get CWM to update to 5.8 I gave up and reflashed to stock, rerooted, reinstalled Superuser, put the TWRP 2.2.1.1 zip on my SD (openrecovery-twrp-2.2.1.1-sgh-i717-signed.zip), but when I try to install it gets a quarter of the way through and I get this:
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
install_package = (2)
Installation aborted.
So I got GooManager from the market, and when I try to Install OpenRecoveryScript I get "No recoveries were found for your device."
I just can't catch a break here. What am I missing??

Haha, ok. So you are Odin'd back to stock and stock recovery. I would use Odin to install the cwm from braways thread in dev section. Then you will have cwm and can flash stuff (like twrp). Once you flash latest twrp you will be set to flash any Rom. Hope that helps.
You can't flash this stuff from stock 3e recovery.
Good luck.

That's exactly what I used last time, the download for CWM there gave me 5.5 which caused the rest of my (initial) problems. After reflashing stock, I tried to put 5.8 on the SD and install the zip, and it wouldn't do that either. I'll give that another shot since TWRP isn't working either....
Finally got it: had to reinstall CWM 5.5 so I could install TWRP 2.2.1.1 and then it let me flash CM9. I swear I tried that already; I guess it just needed to be rubbed the right way. Thanks for the help!

Do you have a custom recovery such as clockworkmod recovery or TWRP installed? If not the only way to whipe dalvik cache is to do a factory reset in the stock recovery. Before you install a custom ROM you should install a custom recovery.

No problem man glad to help, but yes "recovery" is for recovering something when something with your ROM goes wrong, but it can also be used for basic maintenance functions such as reformatting things, as well as flashing certain scripts, kernels, mods etc.

Try running the fix permission utility in ROM manager, see if that solves your problem. You should also be able to use CWM recovery to fix permissions as well.
