[Q] Updating to 4.0 from 2.3.3 on unlocked SGS2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've a galaxy s2 GT-I9100 and its on T-Mobile (It says that wen I turn it on). Im currrently on 2.3.3 and I really want to root and install custom roms and all that good stuff but the thing is that it is unlocked.. Question is, If I upgraded to any other rom and something like that, will I lose the unlock?

Hi,
i dunno exactly - but i dont think it will lose its unlock
otherwise you could try this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode

No you won't lose unlock.
I did it on my Galaxy S2, moving from stock gingerbread to CM7, and then jumping to CM9.
Make the upgrade, it's worth it!

[Q] T-mobile unlocked Samsung Vibrant and updates

Hello.
I just bough a T-mobile unlocked Samsung Vibrant and up to now it is working fine. I used the KIES software and saw that there are updates available but I don't know if it is ok to update my phone. Is it still going to work if I install the updates (or it will become locked to T-mobile again)?
I am quite new to this so I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance

you should be fine, but It depends what kies is trying to update?
if your running stock and your just unlocked you should be fine.
but if your running a custom rom then its pointless to update through kies anyways.
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I am not sure what I am running. I bought the phone unlocked. When I go to the About screen, it sais Firmware version 2.1-update1, build number 'Eclair'.
If the update is for the 2.2 firmware, will I have a problem?
Is there any info on this forum where it explains things like 'What does a locked phone mean', unlocking and firmware updates?
Thanks again

[Q] Atrix Rom Change!!

Does anyone know if I can change my phones stock rom with cherryblur without messing with another kernel? Because I have an AT&T atrix that I bought from amazon.com and it came unlocked since I live in Costa Rica, everything is stock, but I'd like to change my rom and wanna know if I can put that rom on my phone as is comes, with my stock kernel, I guess it's stock since I haven't changed anything and it came with gingerbread 2.3.4 out of the box. So do I need another kernel or something? Because it is in fact an AT&T phone, it was just career unlocked. And can I flash it even when I have gingerbread on it?
PLEASE help! I wanna get rid of motoblurs slowlyness...

First root the locked device with CF Root using Odin (see my signature item 1) than unlock the phone with Voodoo Sim unlock tool in Playstore, after it is unlocked flash this fix with cwm recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802951.
-Edit- It seems voodoo Sim unlock tool is temporarily removed from Playstore, keep an eye on it though, it will be back because it is beeing updated for newer firmwares.
For now call your provider and ask for the sim unlocking key.
You can also unlock your phone here http://www.sammobile.com/unlock/index.php?phone=I9300 , it costs 15 euro (creditcard or paypal) and you need to be rooted before the unlock.

[Q] Is it possible to Sim unlock with Cyanogenmod installed?

My girlfriend is selling her old Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S2 sgh-t989 that had Android 4.02 on it asked me to clean it up so she could sell it because it ran very slow so I installed Cyanogenmod because its lightweight and also assuming it would unlock it for the carriers. After a bit of reading, on this forum I discovered my assumptions we're wrong. Now my question is this, the person who she sold it to is on AT&T. With Cyanogenmod on it, if she calls up AT&T will they still be able to unlock it or should I flash it with a stock rom?
bump
Better flash stock rom...
I really dont know about carrier locked phones (no such trend in india) but still it would be better or else one may say that the phone has been tempered(correct word??) wid
You can not unlock it on custom ROMs with apps, only from pc at a service store(perhaps), on stock 4.1.2 it is possible with various apps like GalaxSim( I recommend it, altho it's paid nowadays) and Chainfire's app(I don't think it works anymore though)
It's possible, I used the old version of galaxsim to unlock my Telstra locked i9100t and it worked like a charm. I'm pretty sure you can get it free as an apk.

Galaxy S2 branded firmware

Hi, i'm new to this forum and I have a question regarding my old Galaxy S2. The phone is running on Android 2.3.4 (Carrier branded - Swisscom, the logo appears while turning the phone on), SIM unlocked. I was wondering could I install LineageOS or any newer custom rom immediately, or do I need to install different firmware before that? By the way, I'm new when it comes to rooting/custom roms etc, so I'm scared that i might brick it.
Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to XDA.
Please have a look at this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-tutorial-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-t3538601
I used this guide a couple of years ago to move from 2.3.6 to 7.1.2. You now have more choice for the Android version, you can update to 7, 8 or 9 if you like. The guide will get you to the point of ROM installation, from there you can use the install instructions for the one you choose.
Good luck, happy flashing and let us know how you go.
