[Q] How to delete everything from phone and flash other rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got a samsung GS3 which i would like to flash a custom ROM on.
The phone is rooted and i have done
Get into the CWM recovery
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Install the wipe version of this ROM
The problem is that even after all of that formating and deletings there are still some old files on the phone like airdroid, total recall,....
Can someone explain please how to get rid of that?
Is there a way to flash a ROM from the external card and if not where do i need to put it in internal storage?
TIA

You won't get rid of all files on the internal memory. The wipe process does wipe the memory clean but the phne uses the internal for its own storage and sets it up respectively.
You may have a few extra files added if you flash a stock rom as it too may add a few system files....
To check, go to system>storage. You should have around 12Gb of storage if you own a 16Gb phone or about 28/29Gb if its a 32Gb phone...

thanks for that. Maybe got an idea how to flash from external sd card or where to put the zip file on internal memory?

You can flash Roms using Mobile Odin which claims to be S3 compatible but I never tried, and anyway i'd stick to flashing from Pc because it's a lot more reliable.

[Q] Formatting internal SDCard for resale

So soon I will be getting a Galaxy S III and I plan on selling my S II, I will be doing a Wipe/Factory reset however the internal SD card storage is always left untouch I wanted to have this wiped and clean back to the way it was when I first got it.
In the storage section of the phone they have an option that says Format USB mass storage, will doing this restore/recreate the folders and the layout of the phone to the way it was factory stock when I first got it as well as the obvious formatting it will do?. I don't want to do a format and its completely blank with no folders period.
Thanks.
OK. This is what I would do if I were selling mine; first go into CWRecovery and format cache, data, system, & internal sd card. Then flash stock rom in Odin, then use jig to reset flash counter if you like. Done.
That will give you a stock phone with nothing else on it.

Thanks but that doesn't actually answer my question, the rest of it I do know though and do so every time I flash new international firmwares. Need to know about the SDcard and what you get when you format, what folders if any?
Press volume up+ power + home key. Then clear cache, clear dalvik cache, Then factory reset. That's all it will be new but if you flashed many roms you should use a USB jig to Reset counter

Simply dialing a wipe code will do that for you, no hassle.
but tht does leave some files behind ,dosnt it...well i once formatted phone, int sd,ext sd an my phone was raw an dint even boot cause it had no os or any files , then i flashd the stock rom an it was ,"like outa the box"
but i always keep efs folder bckup ,on pc,ext hd cause its always safe...
dialing wipe code do data/cache wipe plus wipe of internal sdcard to factory defaults

Factory reset+flash wiped my memory

Hi All,
I did a factory reset today and flashed the stock 4.1.1 Polish ROM via Odin. This process seems to have wiped my files (including photos etc) from my S3 (internal memory, not SD card). I've flashed plenty of ROMS before and this has never happened.
Anyone know if it's possible to get them back? I guess I've installed new apps etc now so a lot of the data would have been overwritten. Frustrating!
Thanks for any tips.

Unless you backed up on PC or sd card...
Factory reset in S3 will always wipe internal memory as it shares internal memory for applications.
If you want to restore try some data recovery software that supports SD card.

That would be the only way. There is a very small window to recover data wiped from flash memory and on a phone it would be even more difficult. Maybe a Clockwork backup?
Internal SDcard is mounted on the system partition via Fuse..so if you format the /system partition..sdcard is formatted as well..
Pointers for future..
Use CWM for flashing ROMS..(I hate Odin )
Backup your internal SDcard on your PC regularly
Perform a Nandroid Backup on your ExtSDcard before flashing any ROM.
If you ever need to factory reset..use the wipe data/factory reset option in CWM and not in Stock Recovery
For a clean install, if you want to wipe system partition..use wipe /system option under mount and format in CWM..it just wipes the system files and your SDcard data will be safe..
You will not face such issues if you in the future if you follow these pointers.

[Q] Completely reset i9100

Hello,
i really tried to find answers around before asking.
I have tryed different roms on my i9100, cm7, cm9, rr, miui. Now i have a tonn of folders from apps that are not even installed on my phone. Now what i want is to get rid of all the trash in my phone, like leftovers from apps i installed with previous roms and make a clean install of cyanogenmod 9.1.
How do i do that?
I would really appreciate any help. Tutorials, links, everything you guys can give to help me out.
Thank you

I normally do the wipes in cwm and format usb storage.
do the following and nothing of the old files will be left.

wipe cache
mount and storage
format cache
format system
format data
mount cache
mount system
mount data
flash the rom
wait for the installation

Do this step by step :
1. to format internal and external mmc, connect your phone in mass storage mode and format each drive with windows format tool (right click on drive icon -> format)
2. to format flash memory go to recovery wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalviq cache
3. Install rom

[Q] Formatting before or after upgrading?

I have a friend who owns an Atrix that wants to flash JB.
He installed CWM recovery and because of that, he now has a few files in his internal sd-card in the clockworkmod folder:
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-olympus.img (download folder)
.nomedia
.salted_hash
.settings
He wants to format his internal sdcard before flashing Jelly bean but he fears that deleting these files will cause CWM to stop working. Will that really happen or can he format without concern?
If he can't, is there a problem to format after flashing Jelly bean?
I don't understand your problem, if you wipe data/factory reset in CWM it will of course not delete itself xD
First, make sure you do a back up, then usually you put the Rom in the external sd card, wipe data and dalvik and flash the rom and GApps. But it doesn't matter if you wipe data after flashing for most Roms.

Do I lose my data on the internal memory card ...

..if i install a new Firmware? my I9300 stuck in bootlood and I will like to keep my data after i've installed a new firmware.
THX in advance
Metanol
Depends on how you try to solve the bootloop, if you have a custom recovery then clearing cache and dalvik might help but you'll probably have to factory reset -which will wipe the internal sd card.
Flashing a new firmware won't wipe the internal sd, but probably won't result in your phone booting again until you factory reset first.
