ok, so here's the scoop... I just upgraded from the HTC Thunerbolt to the HTC one X then realized i wanted to be able to take m battery out, have external storage and 2 gigs of ram and took the One X back to get the S3.
When i got the One X I rooted and unlocked the bootloader right away and had CleanROM 4.0 on it (irrelevant)
My question is wondering if there is a bootloader to be unlocked with the galaxy s3... I have had HTC phones ever since I used android and so I am learning Sammy's ways with the S3.
Do I only need root access tovflash kernals with this or do i need to wait for a bootloader to be unlocked?
thanks in advance.
I believe the answer to this is that if you're on AT&T, Sprint or TMobile you're good to flash ROM's once rooted. If you're on Verizon you're screwed and waiting for the devs to hack an unlocked bootloader.
Hope this helps
i am on ATT so that does help. thanks!
i do have a few more questions...
What is this about a flash counter? What will trigger this counter? ive looked at this "Root without tripping the flash counter" but i am not sure if it is permanent fix or if it just wont trip it when i root it that one time.
thanks again for you help!

Hello,
I got a big sale on HTC Evo 3D (the GSM version). It costed only 300$ without contract.
I owned a lot of Android phones before and i'm not a noob. I was in the testing team for a lot of ROMs.
Since this is my first HTC, can someone explain to me:
- What's HBOOT?
- What's S-ON/S-OFF? Ok, i know it's security ON/OFF, but how does this affect the phone?
- What's the best ROM for the GSM version?
- Why are so few ROMs available?
I installed CWM 5.0.2.0, i rooted my phone and i unlocked my bootloader via htcdev. My HBOOT is 1.49.0018 and my device is S-ON. I have the default firmware (Android 2.3.4, Software number 1.20.401.8).
You were a ROM tester and don't know what hboot or s-on/off is.? Hmmmmmm

Samsung Galaxy i5500 had an unlocked bootloader.
Motorola Milestone had a locked bootloader, but we could bypass the bootloader via some exploits.
LG Optimus 2x had an unlocked bootloader.
Xperia X10 mini pro had a locked bootloader, but we could unlock it via an exploit made by the great the_laser (the master of Sony Ericsson).
When i said ROM tester, i was saying "TESTER". Install ROM, check the functions, check the stability, check the temperature etc.
Do you get it now? It's the first time i have a contact with the HTC phones.
Don't be rude and be happy when a new guy buys the phone. He will be another person who will install the custom roms on the phone. So, another person who can find bugs.
Wasn't being rude, just wanted clarification. I am glad you're here and always welcome new members. Sorry it came across that way.
Welcome aboard in any case

Hey guys I'm asking on behalf of my gf (i have htc sensation xe, so i'm not using lame excuses ) Her phone is not rooted (yet ) and I'm wondering whether is possible to unroot the atrix 4g so that it goes back to "brand new"/out of the factory status and there are no warranty problems related to the rooting.
Also: is it possible to flash a custom rom without unlocking the bootloader (so that warranty is not voided)? And does going s-off void the warranty as well?
Thanks in advance for the support!

I seem to recall that it is possible to unroot your phone (but you'll have to look around here), when you do unlock the bootload an 'unlocked' appears on the left hand screen when the rom is loading.
Anyways, see how you go with reading the above guides
There is no way to flash a custom ROM without custom recovery, which needs an unlocked BL.
S-OFF does not exist on the Atrix.
Hello!
I have a question regarding the bootloader og the LG G2. Maybe this even applies to previous products.
I've owned the HTC one X and if it was a branded phone you could not flash any stock firmware unless you would get S-OFF.
Now what i would like to know is how this is handled by LG? Can anyone enlighten me?
I'm deciding to pick up this phone and i'm not sure about the bootloader but it's of huge concern to me
Thanks in advance

First:
The Q and A section are for questions
Second:
Loki method was just confirmed for the verizon and AT&T version of this device. All you have to do is flash the recovery via adb (or maybe in the future with goomanager) and flash roms (when they are available. currently they are not)
This has a locked bootloader like the One X but Loki is an exploit that goes around the bootloader without having to unlock it.
Third:
htc one x didnt require S off to flash, it just required unlocking the bootloader via HTC DEV after changing your CID (i think that what it is called) to all 1's. S off is security off, it allows you to do more with the bootloader like remove tampered and unlocked or change your CID to another HTC One X variant to get OTAs
My god I had totally forgotten about the Q&A forum. I apologize. Due to my excitement for the LG G2 i just couldn't resist getting this posted ASAP. Much thanks !
hello guys i have a question i bought an HTC One M7 from At&T (i bought it on internet) im currently using another carrier because is factory unlocked, but when they gave it to me the phone was runing a custom rom (insterkoin 4.4.2) i really dont like the roms i preffer the stock ones with no root and everything as it is, so i found out that the Phone has the bootloader unlocked, rooted, but is still S-ON and it has H.Boot 1.55 so i dont know how do they installed a custom ROM, pretty much my question is, how do i restore my phone to Fully stock, and i understand that i need to gain s-off in order to get back to stock, so how can i do it ? if you guys please can help me i will appreciate it thank you in advanced!

You don't need s-off to install a custom rom in many cases. It just has to be unlocked via HTC dev. Look around and you should find the post with instructions for returning to stock 4.3.

I need some help here, We (the wife and me) bought two s4's New a year ago and both was MDK, I Rooted and loaded a custom Rom, All was good until a few months ago when I wanted to put a Newer Rom on my phone, I started flashing this Rom and that Rom and then I had this problem! I had loaded a Rom or ????? that Locked my Bootloader and Now I'm unable to Flash Rom's
I'm really a Noob at this I only root my own phones and Need help here So I don't do it again to my wifes phone which Needs to be updated, it's on 4.2.2 MDK She has a New s5 and I'm taking her phone.
(1) Please tell me what I need to know to NOT Lock the Bootloader ???
(2) What is the Newest Debloated Stock vzw Rom Need Wifi Hotspot ??
(3) Steps for Flashing, I want to be sure I'm doing it right......
Thank You for your Help in Advance
Are you sure her s5 is mdk bootloader? The mdk bootloader was on the first released s4.
Essentially once you have a custom rom and and u locked bootloader, never take a verizon ota update. That usually patches known exploits to your phones bootloader and locks it down. What was the last rom you flashed that locked your bootloader?
Also, did you have a custom recovery installed? Can you get back to your custom recovery? If so, you're bootloader is not locked. You will have to wipe your phone clean and flash a new rom.
I will be working on her older phone, the s4 with the MDK bootloader and Now has become mine, Her new phone is the s5 and it's happily Rooted with S-S and a custom Rom.
