Hello!
It's hard to not find pretty much anything with the search here on XDA, but this one I have no clue...
The contact search by T9 in the dialer works ok, but it's extremely slow when you click the little arrow in the right to open the results... Anyone know a workaround?
Besides that the other thing that annoys me is the need to click the dial button after already select the number wanted... One wasted click, why not dial right after?
Thanks! And sorry for my English!

Any thoughts??
Thanks!

Is there any way to change or remap the useless "Search" soft key on the ATRIX?? Maybe someone could make a script that one could follow or maybe an app.... I did a search but nothing turned up for the ATRIX..
Thanks in advance!!!
eyo OP,
All I'm aware of is that certain apps can be swapped out for the Search key LONG press.
For example, I've remapped it to take me to Quick Settings so I can toggle GPS, wifi, autorotate etc from within an app without having to exit it. Another app it mentioned being able to map the Long press to was Miren browser (i've since switched to Boat mini. smaller footprint is all, nothing really wrong with miren's functionality)
As for completely remapping it? search function and all? I'm not so sure, and (sadly) I certainly don't have the dev skills to fiddle with any policy/build.jars
Sorry I couldn't help more.
All that I get for my search key long press is vlingo or voice search....

Probably because those are the only two apps the system detects as viable. An app I saw mentioned was "Launchkey"...looks like the author for the linked thread is developing both. Seems to be what you're looking for. Just make sure the Atrix is liberated enough to meet the req's for those apps. Looks like it needs a lot of permission type deals.
Good luck.
Excellent!!!! When I get to a computer i'll hit up the thanks button in your favor
BTW- im running the new AT&T ATRIX software 4.5.91 with an unlocked bootloader... works fantastic...

Definitely glad to hear I could help.
I'm like the 3AM insomniac batman lol.
Have fun with it!
So I do not like the stock dialer on my S2 and have been looking around. I narrowed it down to DW Dialer and exDialier. Are those the better ones or do you guys suggest anything else?

I was using DW, but most of the features I really wanted are in the ICS dialer in ICScrewD, so using that now. DW would be my fall back though. Wish the dev would drop the price for the pro version tho

It is pricey and uses a ton of memory.

I didn't feel that way with it installed on my phone. DW Contacts is awesome, especially it's fuzzy search in names/companies (you can choose what it should search)! Just today I needed to search for the guy who installed blinds in my home.. all I needed to type was 'blinds' and found that guy's number. I would miss this feature in stock dialer.
ExDialer is where it's at. It has a couple themes, and as good as stock dialer (functionality) and it's free
+1 for exdialer

Google maps did this with my friends house (and mine) after only typing a few letters of the street! Really smart stuff.

Hi guys!
I new to this forum section because I'm coming from Nexus S.
I want to ask if is possible that instead of the voice command when we double click to open the search app. or recent tasks.I know that we have the recent tasks by hold the menu button pushed but with the double click is a little quicker.
Maybe it answered but I did not found it yet.
Sorry could you be more clear? i didn't understand what's your problem

I think he asks if its possible to set double tap home button as task manager. He already knows long pressing works as task manager but he wants the double click do the job

Yes something like yhis. Or the double typing could be the search button. So is this possible or not?

I havent heard
I havent heard of any rom that does this. Usually all roms ive seen and flashed..(and trust me.... ive flashed almost all of them....), have taskmanager set to long press on the home button... ill search around and see what i can find.
Im saying this because when i had Nexus S I could use the search button for the recent tasks.

Usually when typing in search words in Google using the stock browser you are able to tap one of the suggestions that come up and it should take you browse the search results. However, I just realized that it doesn't work. I start typing in the search bar at google.com and Google starts to populate a list of suggestions but when I tap on one it either does nothing or searches only on what I have typed to the point when I tap the suggestion.
Has anyone else seen this? It's very odd. I hope it's not one of these apple lawsuit things.
Thanks

You have to click the arrow to the right of the results that you wish to search. Dont know why this was changed.

thought i'd post this in case any of my fellow unrooted inc4g people hate the default keyboard as much as I do

its the official 4.2 keyboard with swype gesture typing
Thanks a lot I've been waiting for this
I installed the APK but I cannot find a way to switch keyboards. Any advice?
EDIT: Found it! When the additional keyboard is enabled (Settings->Languages & Keyboard->Android Keyboard ON), a keyboard icon appears in the notification bar. Dragging down the notification bar shows "Select input method" which then allows for a kb switch.

After you install go into settings, then language settings and enable it, then find an input field, like in messages, then in the status bar you will see the select input, click that and select the android keyboard and you'll be good

That's my question also.
And I can't get the option to switch keyboards by long pressing in a text field. I always have to pull down the status bar. What gives?
