[Q] Can I stop TouchWiz adding app short cuts? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to stop Touchwiz trying to add shortcuts to the homescreen when I install an app??
Every time I install something I keep getting messages telling me there's no room on the home screen then it just randomly places a short cut somewhere.
Can I stop this??
Thanks.

It's not Touchwiz, it's the Play Store that's doing it. Go to settings in Play Store and turn off the option to add widgets to the home screen.

[Q] cant stop 2nd message notification

I recently started having this problem where I keep getting 2 notifications for texts after using 2.1
I use handscent sms and turned off all notifications from the default messaging app but they both still notify me of a new text. Its annoying itll vibrate twice, ringer twice. plus I cant even get the default sms thing in the notification bar to go away unless I manually clear it. Never had this problem for the months I had this phone before the update.
Anyone come across this or know how to fix it?
(oh and I tried a search but the xda search engine is down, it's down like 50% of the time I try to use it, so please no harsh remarks about a repeat post if this is one)

Google always works.
google brought me right to this post. so at least the next guy with this problem will be able to fix it if anyone has an answer....? I cant be the first one with this stupid double notification.
seemingly, after disabling notifications, removing the messages shortcut from the homescreen does the trick, although i havn't tried this myself.
you wont loose the messaging its still in your APPS list.
just tried it and it does work

I had the problem for the longest time. I eventually found out that it was the SMS widget in Beautiful Widgets that was causing the problem, even though you hadn't activated it. Uninstall Beautiful Widgets and see if it works.

i had the same problem a while back too. and by disabling the notifications it still didn't work. what i ended up doing was clearing the SMS center number under network settings and retyping it in manually. worked like a charm

Turn off sreen WITHOUT autolock, for ANY lockscreen, not only stock one, desperated!

I am desperated by now. I need a way to disable autolock, but in all lockscreens apps, not only on the one that comes with the phone. I guess what I need is an action like when you are on a call and the screen goes off but the phone is still awake.
For example, I want to use Go Locker, and I have my screen timeout set to 15 seconds. When the 15 seconds passes my screen goes off, but also, Go Locker autotriggers itself. I don't want that to happen because it is annoying as hell to be unlocking all the time.
I have read thoulsands of threads here and in other websites, and I have try tons of apps, all of that with no results.
I have read that you can do what I want with Tasker, but I haven't figured out how.
Please, somebody help me, this issue has been driving me mad for two weeks now!
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english
um can't you just disable the lockscreen?
system settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> select "None"

Haven't you read me? I want to have a lockscreen, especially a custom one, not the ugly uncustomizable system one. For example, as I said, Go Locker. But I also want to prevent the autolock when the screen goes off. I want the lockscreen (any lockscreen) to trigger only when I press the button, and not when the screen goes off. Or at least to trigger itself after a long time, let's say 30 minutes. I need some app or something to turn off the screen just like in calls, but I don't know where else to look at this point...
Have a look in the store for Delayed Lock, it's a rather handy little app. There's a free trial available, the support thread is on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955092

It only works with the system lockscreen, not with any other lockscreen... it even force you to use a pattern. What if I want to use the swipe method instead?
I tell you people, I think I need to trigger the same effect that happens when you are on a call. The screens disconects but the phone is still awake.
Thanks anyway but I still lost...
You may want to consider using Cyanogenmod since they include several such tweaks. In Settings->Lock Screen->Screen security you can delay the lock by up to 30 minutes if it timed out. Pressing power button engages it immediatly.
Alternatively, take a look at Juice Defender, it also has such an option but if I remember correctly not as customizable.
I use No Lock. Not what you want, but it works great.

Is not that, that is only for system lockscreen ant also, not for swipe lockscreen. I want something that applies to ANY lockscreen, like Go Locker.
I'll try Juice Defender.

Nothing to do with what I want.
Seriously, is really that hard?? Can Tasker somehow help me on this?? Please!!
You want go locker to do this? Isn't there a setting for that in the app?

Try Always On in the Market.

Change the title of your thread, before it reaches hundred pages of people chiming in to tell you to go to setting and disable it.
You should made it clear in the title that it is not just for stock lock screen but any.

Obviously, it isn't. Believe me, I have download lots of different lockscreen apps, and I have searched them all looking for that feature. And I haven't found it yet...

I will change it right now, but is it that hard to read the first post of this thread? I mean, does the people answer to threads only by reading his title?
Thanks anyway for the tip, I'll do it
You want to be able to keep your screen on indefinitely until you close the screen manually?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, I want the screen to go off in 15 seconds for example, but not to lock until I press the power button. Or at least until a minimun time has passed, like 30 minutes.
I want to think that I can do this with Tasker, but I don't know how! Any help?
Why not just use NoLock? It has a toggle. Toggle it on for when you want backgrounding without a lock screen and then turn it off when you want your phone to lock?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I don't want that because of two reasons:
1 - It completely disables the lockscreen and I don't want that. I don't want to be toggling all the time. It's almost the same as unlocking all the time, at least for me.
2 I don't think it works with custom lockscreens.
Thanks anyway.
Try miui with tons of different lock screens and everyone is system. I think this is app specific rrally.. Either you get what you want with system lockscreen or you do a request for the developer of the lockscreen you want to use....

Sorry mate, just downloaded Golauncher and Golocker to see if I could do this for you, but it seems like the whole process is pretty closed off, I can't find a way for tasker to influence golocker in any way.
Works with widgetlocker though... just sayin'
What works with widgetlocker??

[Q] Cannot Access Themer Settings

I'm sure I can't be the first person to do this but i've been searching for a good hour and cannot find a solution. I needed to resize some of the items in the home screen widget so I long press the home screen and selected to unlock the widgets. Got everything fixed to my liking but now there is not way to relock the widgets again and therefor no way to access Themer Settings?
Everywhere I press on the home screen is a widget so I get the widget pop up but no way to access themer settings to relock the widgets or do anything else. If I open themer in the app drawer it just opens the theme store with no way to access settings. I have tried dragging items to create another screen but that doesn't work. Tried downloading Zooper from the Pay Store to relock from there but it doesn't show the themer widgets.
Tried every long press, finger combination, tapping of the screen/ softkeys with no luck.
Am I being incredibly daft here?

Really sorry I don't have any good news for you. I gave up and moved on.

Rooted

After rooting, how can I remove the icons that remain from the applications screen? This is probably a really dumb question but I have been sitting here looking at this NYTimes app that goes nowhere trying to figure out how to dump the remaining shortcut. The app is removed, but the icon still sits there.
Also, is there an easy way to turn off pop-up error messages that occasionally appear?
Thanks.
Reset your tablet to remove the problem,if you don't want to do that, try hiding that app (it is available in the launcher of TouchWiz Lollipop ) hope I helped

How can I determine what app a 3rd party screen lock goes to?

Hello!
My wife who seems to fill every byte of data on her phone with useless games and apps has got this super annoying screen lock which I cannot figure out what app it belongs to so I can remove the sucker!
This thing is so invasive! When she gets a call you have to swipe that locker and then go through no more than two advertisements before you even get to the native lock screen. By that time the call is long gone!
As an IT professional of 25 years I tell her to stop downloading everything that people say "Oh get this app ..." on Facebook!
I personally have never had the need to do something like this since I don't download garbage!
Any help is soooooooo welcome and very appreciated!
Regards, Dave
when the lockscreen comes up press the recents key and you maybe will see it
It's tedious, but you could look through the permissions of each suspected app. When you find one that has either UI Overlay or Lockscreen permissions, then delete it and check.

Thanks for the response!
While I was searching around for it the app crashed! YES! I had to school my Mrs. that a live wallpaper will never be 183mb, well shouldn't be. So the crappy apps name was Neon Butterfly. Now it's time to destroy it on the Play Store. Who ever was the dev for this was just getting paid for a stupid amount of ads.
Again, Thanks!
