using avast mobile security - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i have downloaded avast! mobile security and i would like to install the root installation so it can survive a full reset,
i have the option direct write method or recovery image method, the direct write method doesnt work on NAND protected devices, im just wondering if the galaxy s3 is a NAND protected device?
thanks in advance

international version is not nand protected

Does that mean that the Verizon version is NAND protected?

i cant boot in any recovery mode
ONLY i can boot in download mode
is there any method to recover the nand or create it again ?
please help me
the only thing is the odin Pass is when i use pit file (GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit) or (mx.pit)
my device is Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300
Um... you did a Nand Erase All in Odin? Then you decided to do PIT installs?
Why would you do that?
About now you need to do what you should have done BEFORE your Nand experiment - go and do a LOT of reading about ROM's and CWM and using Odin.

maybe this two threads will help you: 1 & 2.
Based on those threads, and I got not much experience in this nand stuff, it seems that you got a useless phone now, as sad as this is.
edit: there is also a "maybe" solution in the thread's post 23

[Q] Updating GT-I9500 From rooted Stock Rom to newer firmware ??

Guys I have a Samsung S4 GT-I9500 version running on XXUAMDK the official stock ROM. Rooted using the Adam's Kernel method with TWRP recovery.
Now I have to update it to the newer version XXUBMEA which cannot obviously be done by OTA or Kies
So my question is that if i use Odin and follow the normal procedure to flash the ROM
1. Would it brick my phone?
2. Would the phone be still rooted.?
3. Will it wipe out all my applications installed later?
If the phone will not have the root. What steps could i possibly perform to root it again
U see i dont wanna take risks on such a costly phone.
Please any experienced help would greatly be appreciated

You should make a backup of your installed applications using Titanium Backup. You will then need to Odin back to the original Firmware because you said you can't get OTA updates for some reason. This will cause a loss in root. It will also wipe all your data and programs off the device. If done correctly you will not brick your phone. Make sure the file is in the PDA slot. You can root the phone again by going here. Once everything is setup you can use Titanium Backup to restore all your applications. Then make sure to use TriangleAway to reset your flash counter.

Well sir I suppose u did not get my question properly
I have adam's kernel installed and twrp recovery but my firmware is original and hence I don't recieve the OTA and Kies updates
Further my mobile is an I9500 butbthe link u provided is i9505
I would also like to know if my cuzrom kernel and Recovery will retain after I update to official ROM using odin
Okay so I couldn't wait for any answers and I gathered some guts and flashed the new firmware .
My root's worn off , So i have used the CF autoroot thingy posted by DarkMenace above to root it again.
and yes all my applications and contacts r still intact
I love Samsung Galaxy S4 :')
Thanks people for all ur help :good:

[SOLVED] Help required with bricked S6 Edge

Hi,
I'm from the UK and have an S6 Edge Live demo unit. I was reading somewhere that you can flash the stock software onto it and get it working. In order to do this, I started off by using ODIN to root the phone. This worked fine. Upon the restart, it got bricked. I tried to use the custom firmware, SM-G925F, to try to restore the device, but I keep on getting the following error:
<ID:0/006> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/006> FAIL!
I tried both the VIR and XEU versions, but no luck. Even if I can't flash the stock firmware onto this, is there anyway I can restore the demo unit functionality by re-flashing the demo firmware?
Thanks in advance!
was reading that smart manager for PC have a option to emergency restore firmware...

Thanks for the response. I did exactly that which did seem to get me going and booting into the LDU ROM. This one seems to have the kit, but no modem installed. And it seems to have responded to the T-mobile CF-Root, but i get the same error when I try installing the T-mobile Stock ROM.
leaves the cell turned on until it goes out. After it loads, and off you go into recovery, wipe / reset after power done the cell goes out. Go download and install the FW with odin 3.10.6. Personally tried with SM-G925F :good:

Thanks for the reply, but that still does not work with the SM-G925X (Live demo unit) with the T-Mobile ROM. The build that shows up in recovery is LRX22G.G925TUVU1AOC3. From the T after 925 it tells me it is a T-Mobile variant.
My problem is the same one, I´ve bricked the 925X during the rooting with ODIN Can anybody help? Greetz from Germany
What did you do to unbrick it?
Have you managed to flash a stock fw?
thanks,

Ping pong root does not work. Stock rom via odin does not work.
Android 5 bootloder locks out and fails. I'm working on a solution. Hopefully will have it soon.
Great news cant wait :good: oh and thx
I have flashed a G925F Stock ROM on my S6 Edge LDU - it works!
You only have to remove cm.bin and sboot.bin from the ROM tar archive before you flash it with Odin.
oh, by the way: PingPong is also working!

How did you manage to remove the 2 files from the tar archive and keep the rest within it, as all i can do is extract each file from the archive and convert is to tar.md5 separately.
Please share, how you deleted the files from the tar archive what program did you use. As you have flashed the stock rom does it still say live demo unit when booting up.Thanks
If you are using OS X you can just use "tar" on the command line. For Windows the "Total Commander" might be a good and easy choice.
You only have to extract the rom archive and then repack it without the 2 files mentioned. And you don't have to worry about the md5 stuff. It works fine without the validation checksums - just repack it with a .tar ending.
The boot loader will stay the same, so you still have the Live Demo boot screen.

After flashed go on to the dialing pad dial and dial *#0*# this is the command for testing the phone mine comes up as (not register on network) No commands are now working on the dial pad, what's yours coming up as, can you get any command to function after flashing?
Possibly is because the modem file has been flashed.
Have you already opened your LDU? Have you found a modem chip?
No I have not opened it up but have opened up other devices and they have missing antennas and ic chips so there is no use in opening it.

[ROM] OF6 FULL tar.md5 file Odin Flashable only

i managed to get the OF6 sprint full rom file through kies.
this is only to be flashed using odin in the ap slot.
you will probably lose root and your custom recovery.
you may be able to root it and restore the data . That up to you to try.

But btw, this is Android 5.0 update, right? Have read on android blogs that OF6 has been 5.1 update for T-Mobile Galaxy S6 sets. So..
Okay, it's 5.0.2. Brings Reactivation lock.

no you dont have to update and no it isnt necessary. but if you are on stock OA6 I would take to guess that this rom is 5 months newer with improvements in alot of areas. they claim its for factory reset protection (so someone cant steal your phone and just factory reset it and it theirs now) and for reactivation protection (same thing so noone can reactivate the phone and make it theirs)
if i was on straight stock i would update. if i was on a stock rooted i would either try and root it or wait for someone to root the tar file and make it flashable through recovery.
thats my take on it.
cool... thanks. I like the security features, but at the same time I may wait till the new Moar comes out to do the work.

Yes. In fact, I did a full rom install, with nand erase all (after a bad flash), and I still went back to OA6 and OD3 stock deodexed roms.
Flashing TWRP from Odin works fine after flashing OF6 or OD3. I also used the CF one click root method, and that also worked for me.
Everything I did was in Odin 3.10.6.
Chainfires auto root makes odin complains about the recovery and shows 'fuse>3', which (I assume) means I've already burnt thru three of the 400+ fuses in the phone (kernel, recovery and probably rooting). I've tried odin 3.10.6 and the version that comes with chainfires auto root. Towelroot v3 says my phone isn't supported, even when using the command mod options.
I'll boot back into Windowz and try this a few more times. I don't see/know how joshdv rooted his phone...
edit: let's add insult to injury. I can't downgrade the firmware/OS to OA6, says it fails OS version.

Depends how long you're willing to wait and if you want to keep the warranty bit untripped.
If it doesn't matter, you can still flash custom recovery in odin and any one of the pre-rooted custom or stock roms that will run on the lollipop bootloader.

Well I know this wasn't quite helpful, but I guess you learned your lesson. So which version of the phone do you have? Why dont you just download the latest ROM for your device and flash it? Then you at least should get back a working phone. Then do a little research and try to figure out, if a downgrade for your specific model is possible.

Did you already try to flashnthe stock ROM? If not, I'd recommend doing it. Then search for how to restore efs backup. Then I guess maybe after a factory reset you should be good to go.
Edit:
Here are 2 links. So as far as I understand it, you either need the app, or adb to restore your efs partition.

Flash this UK BTU firmware. It seems to be the best one and will flash fine almost 100% of the time.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/99544/G925FXXS4DPIJ_G925FBTU4DPH1_BTU/
Once done root your phone with cf autoroot. It is compatible with your device and the above ROM.
After that install this partitions app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.partitions
Top right corner click settings and restore partition. Insert your backup of efs and restore.this will most likely fix your problem. If you dont have a back up of efs theres not much else you can do.
Keep me updated.
Edit: what did you do exactly to lose imei? Flash an incompatible rom? Or what?

Flash this UK BTU firmware. It seems to be the best one and will flash fine almost 100% of the time.

Once done root your phone with cf autoroot. It is compatible with your device and the above ROM.
After that install this partitions app

Flash stock firmware
Flash twrp
Do adb shell from twrp
Wipe efs using the following command
mke2fs dev/block/sda3
mkdir /efs
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/sda3 /efs
Factory reset and reboot
Still no imei?. Try flashing stock again
I don't know if it's gonna work with s6 edge but it worked in some cases for note 3. On you own risk. You have nothing to loose anyway since it's already useless.

Male sure your efs backup is saved internally on your phone. On the app top right corner click settings and restore. Locate the efs folder you backed up and click start. Once done reboot to recovery. Wipe data and cache and reboot.
