[Q] will the wolfson DAC give better sound than other DAC - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i am just curious will the wolfson DAC give a better sound quality while listening to music over bluetooth than phones with other DACs like the galaxy note

i'm not really an expert on this. But from what i've read and gathered, the wolfson chip used in the International S3 is of extremely high quality. Its supposed to produce some really good sound. Better sound than the S2 and the Note.
Theres a whole thread dedicated to the sound quality. The only 'issue' i've seen is some people saying the volumes too low, but theres already a mod and everybodys waiting on "Voodoo" sound which is supposed to make it even more kick ass

How is Audio quality on sgs3 ?

Hello
How is audio quality on sgs3 ?
Especially considering the crappy audio quality on sgs2, I'm asking this question.
Note how Gsmarena lied about sgs2's audio quality and anandtech came up with detailed analysis on Yamaha crappy audio chip set...

I have not tried it with headphones yet but the loud speaker and streaming over bluetooth have been very clear. Samsung have used lossless bluetooth streaming tech and the difference is noticeable on my cars speakers.
Close this thread too.
I won't create any thread on xda again.
Omg now I can not even create threads in QnA section !!!

It looks like the new SGS3 uses Wolfson WM1811 stereo codec. check out the ifixit site for tear down of SGS3
S3 has the best audio quality atm

Yep, it is so great!

I love the audio so far, especially with winamp pro and dip manager. Just waiting for a voodoo enabled kernel to really beef it up!

I use it with poweramp.. and beats headphones.. I know the beats headphones are overhyped.. but in comparison to the galaxy nexus the sound quality is much better and clearer! I love it!
The audio on the S3 is excellent. When it is all the way up its almost to loud. Im surprised but in my opinion the audio is even better than the HTC One X which I thought was pretty good until I had the S3 in hand.

[Q] Microphone quality of S3?

Hey guys!
I still have not ordered the s3 because of the lack of availability of the blue model.
And i have a (for me) important questions to people owning the device:
How is the sound quality of the microphone at high volumes?
Videos from S2 at concerts, festivals or bigger (louder) parties are simply unwatchable because of the really poor sound quality. Other phones do that way way better. So could someone test it for me??
Greetings
X
Apparently it's dreadful, worse than the SGS2. There are at least two relevant threads I've seen if you want more info.
Can't say it worries me, tbh, but each to their own..
Hmm
I have not found any thread for that. I guess it wont be possible to do much about it with software...?
funny to hear that... first thing my girlfriend told me after i called her the first time with the S3 was that the sound-quality is much worse than on the htc.
but honestly... not my problem, especially since the speakers are much louder and clearer on the S3
Does the S3 record in stereo like the One X or is it just mono? because I know it should be capable by using the noise cancelling Mic.

Good question- this could be the reason for a bad quality..
Yes the S3 does record video in stereo and from all the YouTube videos I have seen, they still have reversed mics just like the S2 has.

Something Similar to Voodoo Sound Exists?

Coming from a SGS, having Voodoo Sound makes my SGS sound amazing. I've read that SGS2 is a disappointment when it comes to sound quality so I'm wondering here, aside from the Equalizer app, is there a way to get the sound quality to be similar to that of Voodoo Sound?

There nothing similar to voodoo sound.
However, PowerAmp will blow your mind away with its sound quality. That amazing music player produces the best sound quality ever and has made me forgive my galaxy SII ever since I got it.

Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon) Audio quality?

What do you think about the RN4(SD) audio quality? Bass? How clear is it? Is it loud? Ty for answers!
It's above average
It's loud enough for music and gaming....
Though sometimes you can block the audio from the speaker while gaming or watching movie....

Sound quality of Rn4 [SD] is awesome. You'll get some pre-defined sound settings to set according to your headphone or ear phone. I've tested my Samsung earphone with standard setting and the output was awesome.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I am searching for best android phone for music and found redmi note 4.
Previously I have used redmi h1s and the sound quality was very poor I mean the sound from external speakers and headphones was very low and so can I think note 4 also does the same.
What does Rn4 [SD] mean because you're saying that Rn4 [SD] provides highest sound quality but I am going to buy redmi note 4 with snap Dragon processor. Does both the products are same.

Yes. "SD" stands for Snapdragon.
SD here, quality of the speaker is below average in my honest opinion in 2017, it is somewhat loud but quality is not good and forget bass. In headphones is the worst I remember using, there are some settings you can tweak to get a better sound quality but nothing major. If you want to get a phone for its audio capabilities don't get this one. Get a Htc or even a samsung...
For the first time I am hearing that redmi note 4 doesn't provide high quality sound. You have suggested that there are some tweaks and settings for obtaining high quality sound and so please suggest those settings or tweaks or atleast link which describes those.
I heard about sound mods like Dolby digital plus etc., which maximize sound quality and so please suggest about those. I also heard the term rockbox and so please suggest about it. Is it possible to install at a time two to three sound mods at a time.
Can you suggest best soundmods for redmi note 4.
I don't have used cheap devices before, this is my first cheap phone I buy New, my other phones were EX-flagship Used phones, I've had HTC, Sony, LG. And the quality of audio is way better on those phones. As of tweaks I'm talking about those build in inside on the settings of miui 8.
Install Viper audio and you're golden. My Note 4X has amazing sound via headphones with VIPER

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
surely someone must have played with it lol, let us know how the speakers sound.....and how good the DAC is
I've had mine for a few days.. Ordered from Saudi Arabia with the really nice per orders...512gb.. The stereo speakers are a very noticeable improvement.. I've played them side by side with my Note 8 and Note FE... The big improvement is when you turn on Dolby Atoms.... It's not mine blowing (it is a mobile device) but it definitely kicks the speakers up a level... Very pleased... Haven't had a chance to use the headphone jack yet
I have used a store demo Note 9 for an hour or so. Side by side with my Note 8, the Note 9 speakers were a lot better. Definitely louder, but most important much better quality sound and much fuller sound with the dual speaker setup. The Dolby atmos definitely improved the sound quality also. The dual speakers are a big reason I decided to upgrade to the Note 9, and I am happy to say that with my hour of using a Note 9 store demo that the speakers are a huge improvement over the Note 8.
Received my note 9 unlocked from Samsung yesterday, it's ok. I'm really disappointed that it is not as loud as the s9 speakers. It's on par for loudness with the iPhone x though but I wouldn't say louder. The s9 is a few decibels louder then both.
Coming from the Note 8, I think the speakers on the Note 9 are pretty nice. I can immediately hear the stereo sound and it is definitely louder than the Note 8 as well.
Sound overall is definitely better. Richer sound with stereo separation. Loudness is on par with the note 8.

I noticed that Note 9 is quieter than my S9+.
Probably well known, but go into sounds and vibration and turn on Dolby Atmos. Made a huge difference for me. It was off by default on my phone.
Note 9 speakers play not so loud like s9plus. Galaxy s 9 plus it is louder. how come? I have check all settings, all settings was the some playing the some video and s9plus is louder. Note 9 need modification
I agree with others, not as loud as S9+. Disappointing.
Notification sounds again works only on one speaker (mono), right?!

most loud
From my experencing this device is tooo loud with dolby enabled
How is the DAC on this phone? (particularly for the SD845 version) Has anyone tried it with some decent headphones? Any enthusiasts out there? How does it fair? Especially if someone has had experience with the LG V-series with a 32bit Quad DAC before... heard the Galaxy S9 and S9+ had a decent DAC.
Thanks for any and all feedback from the community.
If you want to improve the loudness and sound of your Note 9, go into settings and use the "adapt sound" tool. You have to use headphones for the tool, but once you tailor the sound with the adapt sound, it immediately improves the sound quality. Also, using Dolby Atmos helps also as others have mentioned.
Now at 4 days with my Note 9 and the difference/improvement of the external speakers from the Note 8 is quite significant. I can't compare with the S9, but IMO the Note 9 has great sound and dual speakers really make a ton of difference. Don't forget to use adapt sound and turn on Dolby Atmos.

Lg's dac kicks Samsung's a$$.
Which Dolby profile do you guys think is the best for external speakers ? Auto, movie, music or voice?
I was leaning towards a Note 9 and then my wife got an S9+ and hearing the sound sold me. I agree with everyone else, why isn't the Note 9 as loud? I find it mildly irritating. Also has anyone else notice some weird sound handling with Google Maps? It's almost like it doesn't know what to do with stereo speakers.

If you mean the volume fluctuates, it happens to me sometimes with games. It sounds like the bottom speaker lowers in volume and the overall sound becomes compressed and muffled as if the stereo is too wide. If I restart the game or wait for a while it seems to fix itself. It seems to be app-specific as if I play music with the app still running in the background it seems to be fine.
I find the speakers pretty good with the music app and some YouTube videos, but Dolby Atmos seems somewhat inconsistent. For some games like Real Racing 3 and Horizon Chase they don't sound that good - they emphasize heavily on the car motor sound instead of the music. Asphalt 9 sounds a bit better as the music is more balanced although the choice of music is more harsh on the speakers. On Horizon chase that volume-dip glitch happens in about 5 minutes - only happened to me once with RR3 and not yet with Asphalt 9.
I'm coming from the S9 and yep I noticed the sound difference with the note. The s9 has great speakers. But also the note 9 makes up for it once Dolby it turned on. On the s9, didn't really notice difference unless I connected to my BT beats x. Come to think of it, I need to check out pub g and fortnite with dolby on.
