Rooted Rezound, on latest released (from VZW) RUU.
Every so often, the data arrows go away, and I temporarily lose connection and have to wait a few seconds for them to come back. This happens when I am stationary, moving, in different areas, here, 100 miles away, different times of day, in stock apps, in the home screen, in 3rd party apps, etc. Wifi on, or off. Tried pulling battery to reset, still happens.
Is my only choice a wipe/factory reset? Could it be an app running in the backgrond, on startup? Any types of apps I should look out for? Everything I've installed came from the Play Store.
I was pondering giving this an excuse to try an ICS rom instead of waiting untill VZW for theirs.
What area, sir. I am in the Myrtle Beach area and it also has been intermittent.
Also, check the sensorly maps to see where Verizon LTE has been tracked.
Chicago area. The bars stay, but the 4G Data Arrows go in and out. Can't seem to figure out a pattern or rhyme or reason for it.
So the arrows aren't lighting up or the whole 3G/4G icons disappear? The arrows are part of those icons so the arrows can't only disappear the whole thing would. When you did the RUU did you do a factory reset in bootloader? Usually a factory reset there after you do an RUU helps with any connectivity issues.
Sent from my Sense4 ICS Rezound
The whole 3g/4g Icon with the arrows and all disappears, causing whatever would be to the left of it to shift to the right.
Yes, did do factory reset when I flashed the latest RUU when it came out months ago. Also this only started happening a few weeks ago.
Sometimes mine does it too but it comes back within seconds never had a problem were they didn't come back. It could just be the areas your in the signal getting lost for a bit.
Also it has happened before on other phones too not just the Rezound
Sent from my Sense4 ICS Rezound
Yeah, they do come back after a moment. Just never noticed it this often before, sometimes it happens 3-4 times in a row. Very annoying when needed to look up something.
That's weird mine only happens once in a while could be bad signal in the area or could also be your battery cover. Maybe its loose and the points aren't touching all they way or dust is in between them. Try cleaning the battery cover use a old toothbrush or compressed air and clean off the metal points and see if that helps.

Same thing was happening to me starting about a month ago and I started a thread:

[Q] 4G cutting out since 6/4
I actually did some diagnostics with tech support (level 2 I think) and he confirmed that my roaming capabilities were outdated on my SIM. We tried a few things and I ended up swapping out my SIM and my signal has been a lot better...worth a shot.

Sound pretty normal to me.
This has recently been happening to me. I only use 3g. But this past week in Wisconsin area my signal has been completely diassapearing for 30 min or so. I have to turn off phone and turn it back on to get signal back. I'm from nh and traveling, I am guessing that where I am has spotty coverage, eventhough I have 3 signal bars on 3g

Was in-store the other day, mother was upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S3. Customer next to us came in with the same exact issue I have.
One of the VZW employees recalled a similar issue with the Motorola RAZR right before ICS dropped for it, and the manager and told us that we should be getting the ICS update about the first half of August.

So my Thunderbolt will randomly restart sometimes.. and drain the battery life down by at least 15%...
Other then that I wont have 3G in places I most definitely should..
I haven't down any root to the phone.. Not too familiar yet with it..
I have the extended battery with it? Maybe that has something to do with it? Idk..
If anyone has any advice/tips/tricks, it'd be much appreciated!
If you're getting random reboots and your phone is not rooted then return it and get a new one. There is something wrong with the radio in the phone.
i had the same problem except i was getting shut downs rather than reboots. it def is the radio, rooting and flashing various stock-related radios fixes the problem. as for services im getting good data service but poor reception. infact my brother picked up the droid incredible 2 and i compared how many bars of reception we had and it was about he same.. 1-2 bars, will sometimes cut off and come back on again. i evem get voice mails without missed calls, another sign of dropped service.. weird but it may be in verizons coverage for sure.

This is a problem known to Verizon with their latest radio release for RUU 605.7. Engadget had an article on this a couple weeks ago. Don't return the phone. Try a different radio and or ROM combo. Mine does it... And it seems to do it more in some areas than others. I travel a lot.
My wife's Stock TB (with OTA update) had random reboots. When we went live here with 4G her phone did not pick it up at all. She called Verizon for replacement and they suggested a factory reset first. It picked up 4G and has not rebooted since.... just a thought
Ever since that data outage from 3 weeks ago, me and my wife's thunderbolts have had issues holding 3g/4g connections. The phones willswitch all the way from 4g to no data connection at all during various points in the day. I've tried the mr1 through mr2.5 radios and the issues haven't gone away. Talked to Verizon tech support multiple times and they said they've opened up a trouble ticket to see if its the network or our phones. We stay around Aurora and naperville which are full 4g areas but have had problems in multiple towns. So just wondering if anyone in the Chicago land area or the country for that matter is experiencing the same thing since that outage from a few weeks back.
For reference, I'm running cm7 with mr2 and mr2.5 on my wife's phone. But like I said I've tried different radios already.

Is Aurora / Naperville full 4g? I know going north towards Kenosha I lose 4g around Waukegan

connection perfectly stable in north side of chicago. i would simply return the phone to stock and exchange it. maybe a bad sim card. do you have problems sticking only to 3g? or does that work pefectly?
Its been acting up since before I installed cm on our phones. They haven't been the same since the data outage. We've had cm for about a week or so and before that we were running mr1 and mr2 with basic root.

If the phone is fine no need to exchange it just get a new sim. I got thunderbolts for my gf and her brother yesterday and their 4g seemed perfectly stable as I was rooting them the only thing I noticed was it did take a little for 4g to kick in after toggling via lte onoff

3g runs fine. And all of naperville and Aurora are 4g. North Aurora is not as far as I know. And I thought about the sim being bad but I don't think that's very likely for 2 phonesphones

Hey rygel411, does this sound like your situation?
1) Boot phone up fresh full reboot
2) Phone grabs a 3g/4g signal instantly and holds it for several hours fine
3) Randomly when you power on the display, you are missing a 3g/4g icon but have full bars
4) Checking under Wireless Network settings, Mobile Networks is OFF and WON'T turn on
5) Reboot solves the problem or Wait approx 2-4 hours and it solves itself randomly without doing anything
Does this sound like your situation? No 3g/4g icons and no data connection, and unable to turn data back on without a reboot or waiting a long time? Cuz if so this is exactly what happens to me and I live in central NJ. I always get perfect 3G signal on all my phones, even in my house. And my data speeds are generally good; 1500-3000kbps on 3G.
I am running MR2 Das BAMF Gingerstripped with Imoseyon's 3.4.0 GB Kernel. It IS related to Gingerbread, as my girlfriends Thunderbolt running full stock does not see this issue at all.
Similar but not exactly, both phones were acting up before I had gingerbread on them

I am in the western suburbs (Oak Park, River Forest) and I don't have any issues at all along the I-88 corridor out to Route 59. That's about as far into Naperville as I drive. 4G the whole way, no dropped calls.

Just wondering but are you on MR2? Because if anything its either that or the ROM, and I am more or less thinking its the radio. Could be why we didn't see this radio OTA yet.

I'm on 2.5, not sure of it's radio related or their network because I had Zero problems before with this configuration.
I was on 2.5. Then I downloaded the cm7 update that dropped a couple of hours ago and I was getting horrendous speeds with it, barely 1mbps. So I downgraded to mr2 and now I'm back between 7 and 13. I'm thinking about downgrading to the froyo radio and installing the cm7 compatible version with it.

This is exactly my finding, just in New Jersey instead of Chicago. I would like to see explicit details on what exactly happens when you folks lose your data connection, and what happens when you try to toggle certain settings (ie - plane mode, mobile network, etc)
Especially one particular detail. When you lose your data connection, is there a 1x icon in the notification bar, or are there NO icons next to your signal. That will determine if we're having a connection problem to Verizon, or if our ROM's/Radio's are the culprit.

I have the same exact problem as the OP. I live in Wheaton, work in Carol Stream and go to Chicago every weekend because my girlfriend lives there. 4G and 3G CONSTANTLY go in and out when trying to use them. The 4G icon diappears and then reappears. It doesn't switch over to 3G or 1X. The icon just disappears, displays full bars for a second in grey, 4G icon comes back in grey with 1-2 bars in grey and then goes green after 10-20 seconds or so. It's so ****ing annoying.
I'm running the latest CM7 build with 0223r radio. I've tried MR2 and MR 2.5 and have no luck. It's driving me nuts. It's not CM7 either. I was running rooted stock and it was doing the same thing.
I was getting symptoms like it was shutting on and off. Mine works fine with no changes in the Tampa area.

mobile connection issues on HTC Thunderbolt
Hi,
Did anyone ever figure out connection issues with HTC Thunderbolt? I have the exact issue that DaRkL3AD3R discussed in July.
My Thunderbolt just started doing almost the identical thing as he posted. Can't get on internet unless I wait, boot, whatever - almost identical to what you stated. Connection seems to be connected but it is not. I am new to "messing" around with my phone but this cuased me to root and boot but still on the Gingerbread os. It is driving me batty! It started about Mar 25 or so and I thought booting would help. Do you know if it may be the radio and are there other versions I can try? Someone mentioned new PRI version? Thanks for any pointing in the right direction!
I've made references to this in Q&A, so apologies if you've read this already.
Simply put, my mobile data does not work on this phone. What I'm finding is if I leave a WiFi network or go to/from Sprint to roaming data, the hand-off to cellular data never happens as one of three things invariably occurs:
a) Mobile Data is stuck in 'turning on...' and thus I have no signal at all;
b) I have signal but no throughput (the up/down arrows never light up and I get no data connection);
c) the phone just reboots.
So basically if I change my network state, I can't go back until I reboot. Toggling Mobile Data does nothing in any of these instances. Now I expect holes in the software during a device release, but not holes you can drive a truck through. If anyone is experiencing the same issue or has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If it's not solved by the end of my 14-day rescission period, this thing is done for.
I had this same exact problem. Update your profile and PRL. That fixed it for me but I dunno if that will fix the problem permanently. Might be a hardware defect but I hope it was just a prl/profile issue.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I've tried updating my profile and PRL and unfortunately that did nothing, and moments ago I gave up and called Customer Care to reactivate my OG EVO.
Of course, 30 seconds after that was all done the representative told me there's an EVDO data issue/outage that has been persistent in Philadelphia since the 22nd. You'd think they'd tell their store reps this valuable information, but such is not the case. I'm going to try running some tests on my OG EVO for comparison's sake and see how much truth they're telling me before I put the LTE back in the box and tell Sprint where they can shove it.
I have noticed some quirkyness with the WiFi/3g handoff on the phone on stock and viperROM. I am in the Philly market too, possibly the issue.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
It's becoming unbearable. I lose my 3g connection about 3 times a day. But today, it's lost it about 20 times and that's no exaggeration. It's lost mobile data at least 5 times in the last hour. HTC has got to do something about this.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
So I reactivated my OG EVO and sure enough, 3G data speeds are nothing short of awful in the 19103 area (~6KB/sec on average), compared to the 19106 area a mile or so away -- there's definitely an EVDO issue in the area. However, the OG EVO is not exhibiting the same WiFi/roaming hand-off issues that the EVO LTE is; that has to be a software issue specific to the phone. Seeing as I frequently walk in and out of various WiFi blankets throughout the city several times every day, this bug is a deal-breaker for me.
When I leave a wifi area I've noticed it takes a very long time to pick up 3G. It was nearly instant on my E4GT.
I just had the same issue with my mobile connection. Updating my profile and PRL seemed to do the trick. Changing from wi-fi to mobile also takes over a minute...
change your phone from cdma/lte mode to cdma mode, did the trick for a few friends of mine.
I've also been having the same issues. My phone will just drop 3G and go to roaming or no signal at all constantly. I also live in the Philly area so I'm hoping since we're in the second wave to get LTE that its just Sprint working on the network but I'm starting to suspect that we have a serious problem with our phones. Im on my second phone & a few different ROMS including stock & I've been having the problem since pre relase while my wife's Samsung E4GT has had no issues.
Edit
Well I took the advice from another thread and switched from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only & I haven't had any issues with my 3G dropping or with the WiFi to 3G handoff. Don't know if that fixed the problem or if Sprint just isn't working on the towers today.

Okay this is starting to piss me off. I loose 3G service anytime I unlock the phone. In my house I can not keep a call connected to save my life, even though I have 4 bars. My 3G just looses signal. Its not when I switch from WiFi. It just does it on its own.
The first thing I tried was to turn the CDMA/LTE to just CDMA, tested this for 2 days nothing. I updated both Profile and PRL.... nothing.
I am really tempted to walk into a Sprint store and through down because this is unacceptable. And this happened to my first EVO LTE, so I returned it within my 14 days, got a second one and its doing the same thing. I thought well maybe its because I am in the Chicago Subbards but I have been in 2 other states and I have the same issue.
Anyone know of a fix or when HTC will actually fix their newest phone? I mean come on really guys, how is this okay?
EDIT:
Also, I tried turning off NFC and that doesn't help either.
And is anyone else's EVO get REALLY hot?

Im in lexington sc and for about a week now my data (which i had inside my house just fine) has been out almost completely and i have called 3 times and got 3 different reasons on why this is. Now last night they tell me that there is NO eta on when it will return????? WTF! This better be a LTE thing. If not this is getting out of control fast... They said id be credited for the outage, well data is 50% of what we pay for. This is unacceptable sprint...
Say if it is a software issue shouldn't most people have this issue ?

probably, depending on which software/firmware version you're running. I think it's more specifically related to the radio version/fw vs the towers causing it. it seems more and more like i get varied results depending on where i'm at. always the same end result, just the behavior in how long 3g stays connected varies.
I have been dealling with the same issues. I was driving and my data went out. Can't get data only if I connect to a WiFi, I tried everything. I am on the latest firmware, prl, ect. I got it back yesterday about 5 hours later but as soon as I go to an area with no service it will not come back. (Voice and text work fine) I am still without data since Noon today. I know I have 3G because my old Epic 4G is working fine. I even flashed the radio again and flashed the whole firmware again. Still doesn't work. I am about to take it back and get the Samsung....
I just got my phone yesterday and noticed it today at work. With my og EVO I would consistantly get 3 bars at work and with the EVO 4g LTE I am getting 0-1 bar and roaming a lot which is killing my battery as well. Is the antenna is this EVO not as strong as the og EVO? This is a pretty big problem because I use my phone all the time at work. Iv tried updating my profile and prl and have done a couple resets. I don't want to return this phone but I may have to

No idea how it compares to og Evo, I have since had 2 other phones plus this one.
But I wouldn't call the reception weak.
You can try and do what I do - force roaming with an app like Roam Control. This way you may have a better signal and good battery life.
For me, the signal strength is pretty much exactly like my Original Evo. The wireless actually working on the other hand is not.
My signal is aweful compared to my og EVO. Right now my signal is -105dbm
Strange. My signal is 2-3 bars better than my OG...
I'm having issues with 3g staying connected. I'll lose it turn the radios off and turn back on. It days connecting that's it. I have to reboot to get data working. Updated profile and prl but wats odd is that it always updates and never tells me that I have the recent prl. Any ideas? It's really pissing me off!
I thought it was the weather but yea. My og seems to pick up signal in remote places better.

Yes it is a known fact that the antennas in the new EVO are less efficient than the original EVO. Someone compared the FCC docs but I don't remember the difference. I think it was 2db difference.

Thanks for the info. Looks like ill be returning my EVO today sprints coverage where I work isnt the greatest to begin with and with a weaker antenna makes the phone almost unusable. Come on HTC and sprint, if your going to charge 200 for this phone at least put a decent antenna in it so I can do the basics like calling and emails.
I'll be sitting in one spot and my 3g will drop and the. Come back . It's kind of annoying
Mine was having problems roaming to other towers as well but I went in and changed the preferred network mode from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only and it's much better.
Took me forever to find where it was located: Settings -> Mobile network -> Network mode
Thought that hitting mobile network would just toggle it on/off but if you don't hit the on/off button it puts you into a submenu with more options.
The Wifi antenna seems much better but the mobile antenna seems not quite as good to me. Once I changed it CDMA only it's comparable to my OG Evo.
i'm having the same issues, I loose 3G connections, I have very low signal strength and it is killing my battery..
Ya ive seen a few people with this same issue. it seems like its only in places where i have a weak sprint signal is when the Evo 4g is worse than the OG.
Right now I am sitting at home and the OG evo is -84 dBm and the Evo 4g LTE is -79 dBm so the 4g LTE is actually getting a better signal than the OG.
Im going back to work later and im going to see what the numbers look like there. But on the 4g LTE i was barely able to get a 3g signal at work but the OG evo always had one.
internet/phone sig are different; color of switch
I wonder where you are located OP. We called Sprint and they keep telling us that they are "repairing a tower" near us in Mass.
Two additional notes. First, our internet/3G seems to be much faster since the upgrade from OG to this device. Ookla confirmed this too, about 3-4x faster download speed, 2x faster upload (about 800+ each). However, we have two devices and neither of them can phone anymore! Sprint even drops our text sms sometimes. We are thinking of returning the devices since Sprint has told us three times (one week ago, 3 days ago, and today) that they are "repairing a tower" and always changing the date (now to June 8).
The other thing is that one of the devices, in settings> shows whatever wireless/network is toggled on with red switch, and the other device shows the toggled on with green switch.
Does anyone else have better internet and no phone?
Does anyone else have red switch? It seems logical the "on" switch should be green.
Note: It doesn't make sense to me that I still get 3-4 bars on my old Evo (which was obviously deactivated) and it calls out to a "sorry no service" message loud and clear, but my new Evo can't even reliably send a text much less make a phone call.
Same problem here but mine is weird. I will have full bars and out of nowhere, I drop to 1-2 and it goes into roaming, except even though it's "roaming" I have no data or voice (yes I enabled roaming voice and data). It will stay like that from 1-8 seconds and then go back to Sprint's service. Also, if I tried to send a text during that time, it will fail and if I was getting a call it wouldn't show for 30 to an hour later.
What's weird is that my girlfriends Evo LTE was sitting right next to mine and had full bars all the time with no problem. I am thinking at least mine is a hardware problem. I'll monitor mine for another day and then take it in if the problem stays.
Mine helped switching to cdma only.

Cell is just fine everywhere, but i called sprint and they said that there were tower outages until June1st. I'm sorry but i could've sworn today is the 4th? And i guess there is no more tech support department? Because I've called twice and they won't transfer me. Grrr

So i was able to do some testing and found the Evo 4g LTE to be about 10 dBm less than the OG Evo in almost every place i tested them. Also sitting in my house about a quarter mile from a tower my 3g speed on speedtest.net was 97kbps down and 51kbps up with a 255 ping!!!!!
These speeds are not acceptable even in 1x let alone 3g.
I am trying everything not to return this phone but these kind of issues are so disappointing. I never had issues like this with my evo when it first came out :/

My problem was so bad - I was missing almost every incoming call, but instantly get a voicemail notification. Texts would come in once or twice a day - in large groups. After my phone working fine for 4-5 days I thought for sure, hardware problem. I hadnt rooted, reset to factory, update prl/profile (Through update and *2) etc etc .... no luck
Call and talked with CSR and techs etc for 3 days or so, with no luck. So I take it into my local repair shop - the lady took maybe 15 minutes with my phone, and told me something got hung up initially with the provisions. (Even though it worked fine for days)
So she reflashed software/reprovisioned my phone and its been golden since. Seems that "reactivating" the phone did the trick!

Any idea if this can be done without going to a tech shop? I am often getting voicemails with no call. I have an Airave on the way because of this issue, but I'm not 100% sure that's the problem.
I had a defective DNA from day 1 without knowing it. My camera wouldn't focus, no matter what I tried, so the store swapped it out for a brand new one (I watched the associate open the box). I want to clarify something up front as well, I NEVER had any problems getting service with my previous DNA. No matter where I was I seemed to have perfect 4G, never dropped signal, no ping problems, no speed problems. Even on 3G it would switch between the 2 just fine with no problems.
This new one I have is apparently incapable of holding a 4G signal. Nor is it capable of doing anything involving the internet for minutes at a time, regardless of having a perfect 4G signal. It will literally sit in Chrome for a minute trying to load a webpage with 3 bars of 4G. Inside a restaurant It was almost useless, trying constantly to switch between LTE and CDMA. I restart the phone all the time thinking that will help, and once in a while it will do the trick. Most of the time restarting does nothing though. I'm at a loss as to why this phone could be acting like this, and I'm asking for some advice. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, meanwhile I will continue to try different things.
Have you been able to compare the signal at the same spot with another phone?
Send that fanned thing back for a replacement! That's the whole reason I left the s3... Thats not how this phone should be behaving.

That sucks. Maybe a new sim card would help?
First try new sim.
Second if you are rooted, try set dns and use Google dns. Don't know about verizon, but my local providers dns sometimes goes on fritz causing lot of delay in page loading and even fails at times.
Best thing to do is side by side comparison. Try your sim in other phone at verizon store and see if that is acting fine
From my Droid DNA, right in your face....
take it back man get another. we spent too much on these phones to be dealing with issues like that.If your like me your stuck with it for a couple years. It should work as a phone first and foremost. Thats why i got rid of my gnex!
Just so you know, the bars next to the 3G/4G icon is not your data signal. Those bars just represent the basic phone signal for making phone calls..
The bars have nothing to do with data..
