Got my GS3 yesterday and I've been super pleased with it so far except for one issue; when I use my phone at night, the soft keys light up whenever I do anything on the screen, and they can be REALLY bright! Is there a way that I can make the soft keys turn on only when I press them, or something similar to that?
Thanks!!!

I'm currently using the Telus version of this phone (SGH-959D) and i'm finding it rather annoying that the home key backlight turns off very very quickly. Can anyone suggest an app (maybe make one?) that would keep the backligh on when the screen is active (adjustable brightness?)
I'm currently running 2.2 and have rooted the phone.
some people told me that the DISPLAY activates the buttons to light up, and messing with the screen it-self is very dangerous and most people wouldn't do it, but idk if theres a app/program to do this yet i'd love it as well. its making me go blind at night when im reading a book on my phone lol

I'm mostly having problems when using the navigate in the car at night, the screen stays on, but the buttons go right out, so it's guess work on wether you are hitting the home button or the menu button. I could see similar problems when using other apps that leave the screen on for an extended period of time.
I know, the blue lights between the physical keys on x10 look pretty, but they drive me crazy when I try to use the phone at night. the lights are just so much brighter than the screen and they burn into my eyes, is there any way to turn it off? Don't care if it requires xrecovery or flashing

Use the custom 2. 2 aosp Rom. The led lights are not working. They work when you first turn on the phone. But once you go to lock screen it won't ever turn on. Be careful when creating new threads like this. A lot of people here will give you a hard time. Next time find a relevant thread and post there.

Hello guys, now its been almost a week since i've had my s3 but yesterday night before going to sleep, i just unlocked my phone in pitch black darkness and what i saw was white light originating from the left capacitive key extending to the screen which looked really bad like a screen burn or some kind of weird white patch on the screen as if i've cracked it, and if it were from both keys i cud have convinced myself that its normal but its only the left key! and its not at all noticable even in a little light and if your screen is not using a dark black background.. so what do you guys suggest me to do? can you guys check your phones in a fully dark room with black blackground and touch keys lit up?? and will my warranty consider this an issue and cover it? i feel so bad right now :/
I'll check later tonight, but I generally have those lights permanently off since my S2 as the intermittent on/off at every screen touch is an annoyance particularly when watching videos
I would suggest turning them off, the buttons are easy enough to find in the dark plus you save a little bit of battery.

i dont have it and i also turn off those capacitive lights. either you have to live with or go far an exchange.
You sure?
Are you sure?
It can only be seen in a dark room and with a black background on the phone.
I dont like having flaws on my new stuff. I am gonna try to exchange it.

I went to the dealer and they said that they would send it to the shop to check if it really had a failure, and if it had a hardware failure they would exchange it in one week!!!!!!!!!!! i will just stay with my phone as it is. It is more possible they will really screw it on the shop with something really bad to worry about, and I bet that the next one will have the same flaw or another even worst, so I prefer to stay with mine.
Simple question, I found answers for many other HTC phones or other bands but not for the HTC One yet. Is there a way to force the capacitive buttons to stay lit up? I am coming from a Motorola phone with 4 capacitive buttons (menu back home search) and find myself having to press the home and back buttons multiple times before actually hitting them.
I've noticed they stay off if you have power saver on. Do you have it off and they still turn off?

I turned power saver off and like you said the buttons light up more now, but I was curious if there was a way to keep them permanently lit up?
I would imagine something like that would have to come from a custom kernel
I wish I could turn mine off permanently. I don't like the color they light up. They're not exactly white and it kinda bothers me (yeah, it's stupid, but whatever).

download NoLED. it has an options to permanently turn off the backlight.
My home and back buttons don't light up at all (if I turn off the lights at night for example they will "glow" however). Power saver is off and I did a restart. Am I missing something simple? I know where the buttons are so I'm not going to send it back to LetsTalk, but it is a little aggravating. I do have the phone in an Otterbox Defender case, but they know not to cover up any sensors.

I do know the light sensor has something do with whether the buttons light up or not. If i'm in broad daylight they never light up but in the evenings it's hit or miss.
My buttons don't show up either. I saw in another thread that they only come on when it's extremely dark. It's quite dark in my bedroom as I lie here, but still they're off. I decided to test it by lying the phone face down on my stomach while I lie here. When I pick the phone back up the buttons are lit, but they almost immediately turn back off. It sucks, because it's dark enough in here that I can't see them, and I'm just sort of stabbing around and hoping for the best. Hopefully a ROM or mod will pop up and allow for a fix.

There's an app called Soft Buttons Light in the appstore. It is supposed to either turn the button lights on permanently (while screen is lit) or lets you turn them off permanently. It doesn't require root.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on my One.
If you cover the sensor for a couple of seconds the buttons will stay lit up.ghetto I know lol but still turns them on

The tmobile version of the phone has brightly lit buttons, so it appears to be the att version of the software that keeps the lights dim, probably to try to conserve battery. I have both while I'm testing out the networks, and there are several things like that. The dev version of the rom (or an upcoming custom mod?) should fix it.

With mine it only keeps them lit as long as I keep the sensor covered. Move my thumb away and the lights go out. I've developed a habit of holding the phone in my left hand with my thumb wrapped over the top left, shading the light sensor. I hope HTC adjusts the setting or just adds a toggle for turning them on or off.
Maybe a developer could make a widget...
Has anyone else noticed that the LEDs behind the home and back button are the dimmest of any HTC phone so far ? Next to my regular one, a DNA, and a rezound you can almost barely see them! The display model and the vzw employees all looked the same.
Hoping a software fix is coming ..
Edit- these are the softkeys not hardkeys...

I personally am happy about that. First phone I have not wanted to turn the background light off completely.

I agree. I know in general where to press for the home and back soft keys so having them light up at all isn't that big of a deal.
+1 prefer the dim leds also....
