Installing different ROM! - HTC EVO 3D

Hi everyone, I know it may be stupid question but I was wondering what happens if I install different rom on my EVO 3D GSM?? Not ROms that cooked for EVO 3D but ROMs from different phones. Lets pretend if I install stock rom from HTC ONE X or Galxy S3 on EVO 3D? will it brick the phone? or phone wont start or anything else?
Thank you!

Its like putting diesel fuel into a gas engine. It will not run. You'd have to drain out all that fuel and clean everything, then put in the correct fuel to get it started. (IE a rom that was made for your phone)

Thank you! Can I change my engine without changing my car?
Has anyone tried it?

best rom for gamers?

Hi, I'm new to the HTC devices and only have experience with Motorola devices, from what I understand, rooting and flashing a custom rom is a radically different process on an HTC device. That having been said, what's the best rom for gaming? On the Evo 3D and how do I go about rooting and applying it, PS, I want to play emulators with my wiimote and ps3 controller
hi!
If you want to use wii or ps3 controller with emuators you need a AOSP rom, miui or CW7 works, but you will lose 3d funtions 4g and i think MHL hdmi tv out...
wow lame ;/ guess i'll just stick with stock rom then, um, can I at least root without loosing 3d and everything?

Yes you can ofc root without loosing 3D , 4G. You can also try different ROMs with sense 3.5 , beats audio.
But you will have to check your hboot version. If it is 1.50 , the only way to root is htc method.
If you dont wish to flash custom ROMs then you can simply try MODs like percent battery , htc amaze camera , bootscoot ( to change boot ad down anims)
o.o hboot? wassat? how do i check it o.o , this is all sooo cunfoosing >.< thank you all though for the help
go to settings>power>uncheck fastboot. Then hold physical power button select power off.your phone will shut down. after that press and hold volume down button with power button simultaneously. Your phone will then bootinto bootloader. On the top of the screen it will say *LOCKED*. Below that you will find your hboot version.

Best preformance comes from synergy or Infected eternity. if you want the phone to be even faster, toss a custom kernel as well to overclock it. Personally i use Infected eternity RLS 1.42 with Rcmix kernel(download from kernel manager on market and flash with flash image gui)

Which ROM i should use?

i am just trying to root my htc evo 3d gsm version, but i am not sure which ROM to use
which one is the best?
edit:
i have bought the phone from the carrier whose i am using, so its not a problem for me if the phone is locked only for him(if it is already locked)

It depends on what u wana do with ur phone? I use leedroid with stock kernel no bootloops. Ive found that there are more mods, themes, tweaks ect that are built for leedroid. However if u like sense 3.5 there are roms for that if ur not that bothered as already stated stick to stock.

Sense 3.5 is just the newer version of sense. I'm using honeysense theme by mayfield so my dock and pulldown are pretty different to stock. I get home from work after a 12 hour day with about 70% battery left with leedroid and stock kernel today I've been hammering data WiFi and a game and I'm at 57% probably 9hrs since charge. Best thing to do make a nandroid and flash away!
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m
Here you go mate
Leedroid
Sense 3.5
that still dont answer my question
is sense 3.5 and other roms better than the stock one(which i have) in battery life
now my phone is about 8 hours after charged to 100% and now it is at 75%
usage:
display: 53mins
voice calls: 8 mins
opera mobile: 5 mins
wifi: 55mins(but only using it for ~5 minutes with opera)
righ now i am using only CPU Master Free and i made the cpu frequency from min to max and using it on 'demand'
can i improve the battery life with other ROM, an app or anything, without losing phone speed?
Like I say make a nandroid and test some Roms out best bet is custom kernel and undervolt. I am no expert with this tho as I dont tend to do it. The search box will help.
Cheers

Ur battery life seems pretty good to me. Thats kinda like u getting 4 hours screen on time off charger for 32 hours. Ive had best battery with eternity 1.3/stock kernal. Ive tried most of the stable releases and this is what i always go back too. U have to flash infected wipe, rom, kernal, su-fix. Thiabia also battery with settings turned on. I dont think battery life counts with screen off and flicking mobile networks on when needed.

Should I Root my Evo 3D

I have had my Evo 3D for a couple of months now and I want to root it. My questions are. Should I do it? What are some common problems if i do it? (example: when the evo 4g did not have 4g until they found the fix) What are some good ROMs up there?
I rooted my Evo 4g and traded it for the Evo 3D,so I have very little experience.
Thanks if anybody can give me suggestions

You aren't going to get an answer for this. All roms are different, and designed for different needs. The best thing about rooting is you can easily flash a rom, try it out for a few days, and if you dont like it, flash another.
I rooted mine a few months ago, just flashed a few roms this week
LeeDroids and King Cobra are very solid roms, Leedroids is harder on the battery tho.
I say do it... one of best phones only gets better once rooted.
dude, of course you should root it. when has an android platform been made worse by rooting?
if anything, it will fix it... because right now... yours is broken. injured. maimed.
flash eternity 1.4.2 and hit me up for some extra goodies to throw on top of it... kernelllzzzz

It all depends on what hboot version you have. If you have hboot 1.50, you must use that method. If you have anything lower than that, you can use Revolutionary, which is MUCH easier.

Pretty easy to root 1.5 man
I have a few flashing scenarios that may help you out/clear up somethings once you get unlocked. See the "recovery issues" thread in my signature.

Lmao I have seen you pop up outta the blue you do a great job helpin folks man....
Absolutely...
I had purchased my EVO 3D to replace my EVO 4G - within one hour of purchasing I had rooted and installed the MeanROM v0.4. Basically if you are purchasing a piece of hardware such as a SmartPhone, you should have the capabilities of unlocking its potential. However, always NADROID the device.
Synergy or Viper and the instructions on this website worked pretty well to root it.
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-root-evo-3d-2-08-651-2-and-later-htc-unlock-method/
Yes you should!
I will put in my .2 cents that I run the Stock Rooted ROM 2.17.651.5, and since 2.08, this ROM moves MUCH BETTER. If you want a stock feel, I would run the OEM ROM.
only if you want to do wifi tethering.
when I was on Windows Mobile 5-6.5, it was always a benefit to install custom roms because of performance and abilities benefits...
but with Android phones, there isn't usually much of a benefit to custom ROMs.
With my EVO 4G, custom roms gave me better battery life and interesting interfaces... but also ran slower, more random reboots, GPS would randomly not work right, Google speach listening would randomly not work, and "tweaks" that just caused bugs. For the last 2 months of my EVO 4G, I ended up just going back to stock and the battery life was poor, but at least the phone worked as intended.
My EVO 3D works perfectly in stock mode and this phone naturally has good battery life (at least 3x more life than my EVO 4G) so its gonna stay that way. I did root for the wifitether app, but not gonna go further than that. Keep it stock man.
+1
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Another benefit to rooting & Stock Rooted, besides wifi tether, is the ability to remove HTC Bloat/stock apps that you don't need or use (T.I backup). If you need extra battery life, pickup a Seidio 4000mah battery ($55 on amazon).

[Help] Looking to port a rom to CDMA Evo 3D, STUCK!! :(

Hi. I'd like to start by saying that first off this is my first time messing about with this kind of thing, and what i know is from various threads on porting different roms to different devices. i dumped the rom from the Meizu M9 (GSM) 2.0.5 firmware, https://www.dropbox.com/s/oiyajvv8x37em8e/meizu m9 rom dump.zip and tried porting it to the CDMA Evo 3D. All my attempts have either led me to getting stuck at the HTC splash screen, or boot looping at a black screen after the splash screen. I've pulled multiple logcats, with each of the outcomes they say different things but when i try to troubleshoot i get nowhere. So, what i'd like to know is if a dev could take a look at the rom dump, see if it is even possible to port this or if they would even be willing to take on porting it . If nobody wants to try to port it, i'd really appreciate pointers or tips on getting it to boot/run if its even possible
Edit: if it makes any difference, an earlier version of this rom (android 2.2) was ported to the Evo 4g last year. So -- it should be possible to get it running on the evo3d right?
Did you set the mount blocks right?
block 23 is for system
block 24 is for data
could also just be that it doesn't work. When porting from one device to another, 90% of the stuff won't work.

yeah, set them right. could be it doesn't work - but I'm a noob at this, and don't want to give up unless a dev tells me that it just isn't possible^

[Q] Gingerbread Rom with Sixaxis Compatiblity

Hey there everyone,
I searched and search but couldn't find a ROM for the GSM Evo 3D which has its 3D and stuff working, is running Gingerbread and has sixaxis controller support..
I really looked around but couldn't find anything. Did I miss something or there really isn't any?

Well I am not sure if gingerbread even supports six axis compatibility. As I understand it, HTC never meant for the evo 3d to support otg (on the go) connections. Its a kernel thing. As of right now our awesome devs have otg working on their ICS/ JB kernels and only work with ICS and jb ROMs. My advice to you is if your rooted and depending on what carrier your phone is branded or unbranded, you will need to take the ruu update based on your current configuration.
Of course you will need to unlock your bootloader again. Its also recommended to gain s-off to minimize any issues.
If your familiar with jupounut bear wire trick method, head over to unlimited. io's website and look up gsm evo 3d and download the appropriate control bear. Study the picture. I used a speaker wire to perform the wire trick.
Make sure you touch both points at the same time. It will take a few tries or more to get it right but it does work. Just follow the directions to a T. Lol I know it is a lot but its worth it.
Once you gain s-off then flash your recovery (4ext highly recommended) through fast boot. Then flash your choice of ROM, then flash a kernel that supports otg according to os and network (most of the kernels today are universal)
Phew!! That's a mouthfull.

Hey there thanks for the answer!
I should've been more clear, sorry about that. I'm already S-OFF. Done the wire trick, felt like a mastermind when doing it lol.
The thing is ICS is not cool with games for me. There are crackling sounds in most of my games like Max Payne, Temple Run, Rayman Jungle Run etc.
When I first got this phone which was running Gingerbread back then, the games had no problems at all so I really liked GB for that.
I am using Agrabren's Jelly Bean-Disarmed Toaster ROM right now, which supports sixaxis and Jelly Bean is also quite good for games as there aren't any problems at all but this ROM is not really for daily usage as its a little buggy with small graphical glitches, no 3D, some apps not working, no video streaming from Youtube through mobile data etc.
If you are saying that its a kernel thing, then I'll try all the supported kernels with Leedroid's GB ROM, see if I get lucky.
PS. There is a kernel that says it makes the phone compatible with sixaxis app, but that kernel is for Desire HD. Considering I own EVO 3D, you wouldn't reccomend I flash that would you?
This is the kernel I'm talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518896
Of course not. You should never flash any kernel that's not meant for your phone. You run the risk of messing it up real bad.
Yeah I though so too..
Well thanks for clearing that up, really appreciated.
