Has the latest RUU leak increased battery life? - HTC Rezound

I'm still running the last official release (GB), and was curious if users with the latest RUU leak have had better battery life over the stock Rezound.

In a short word, no. Sense 3.6 removes power menu options to be able to switch to economy mode, so I think I use more power now.

Nonsense.
Nils' ICS 3.6 has been solid and has had comparable or better battery life for several months now. You just have to learn how to manage your phone's power. And that experience comes with being adventurous and testing out a few Roms.
If you're going to just stay on old stock stuff, what's the point of doing the whole XDA thing? Take a chance and try things.
The opinions of others are just that: opinions.
If everyone were so apprehensive, no one would dare try anything, and we'd all be in the dark.

Latest actually feels like less battery too me. I think I'm going RUU back to GB.

+1 my battery life is amazing. I get over 3.5 hrs of screen time every charge
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2

well, once in a while you should let the battery fully die and then charge it up again. it will give you longer battery life.

If you know how to save battery life, any current Rom will get decent to good battery life. Even on the sense 4 roms I can get around 3 hrs screen time

Better Battery
The day that I took the Rezound out of the box I immediately flashed an ICS rom so I have no experience with any GB build for this phone. However, I can attest to the fact that I get fairly moderate battery life on both ICS Sense 3.6 and ICS Sense 4 roms. Average of 3-4 HRS screen time. On Nil's Sense 3.6 my phone would occasionally last for 12+ hrs but I am also overly OCD about using wifi, only allowing necessary programs to auto sync, and going into airplane mode when riding a train or in areas of low service. The top negative review I came across on the Rezound has consistently been the battery life... I have been rather surprised considering some of the things people wrote. I guess no one remembers the HTC G1!

A good switch?

I've been on the G2x since about when it came out (horrible decision...) I've made that phone mostly usable to me but because of nVidia, the devs are always going to be stuck with no drivers for Tegra.
I see I can get the Amaze for free right now at T-Mo. Is it worth it? I know it doesn't have ICS yet but I assume that's coming (there's a certain update to ICS exchange support that makes it a very important update for me so I can get my work email)
Battery life on the G2x has always been pretty miserable for me too. I got that phone way too early and there wasn't enough people using it to really research it at the time. I'm hoping to avoid that mistake with whatever my next phone is.
1- The Amaze does have ICS, in fact, you wont find a GB Rom in the front page of development
2- Amaze battery Life is amazing for me
3- gdfgsdgrgregesrgersgsg??!?!?!
4-Search before posting?
5- a squirrel??
The Amaze does have ICS with Sense 3.6
The phone might look free but they will charge you the extra $15-$20 a month on your bill for the phone.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great phone and since we got the ICS leak its been even better. But with other phones releasing around the corner it might be a wise choice to wait for different options. But I'm not saying that the new phones will be better just saying wait till you find out what you really want.

I know about the ICS leak but that's not official yet And I love rooting my phones...but I've been using my G2x for a year so I'm quite acquainted with all my options. It will always take a while to figure out what ROMs are good for me (personally) or not on any given phone. I've been bitten by too many 'promised' official releases that never happened to never assume.
I'll do a little more research on this one but maybe I'll keep waiting. If I can make it until Google releases all their phones...

True the phone itself I can easily say is my favorite! I've owned 8 android phones. All rooted and custom rommed of course. Its sexy, great camera, great build quality, fast&stable. HUGE cons are the battery life and the dev support.

To be honest, I think the Amaze is so-so. I've been fortunate enough to have tried quite a few phones and the Amaze hasn't done a great job standing out.
The biggest problem with this phone is that the battery life is beyond terrible - worse than any phone I've had in the past. I mainly use my phone (or any of my smartphones for that matter) to respond to business emails and texts. My phone doesn't even last half of the day without needing a full recharge.
I had a G2X and although I wasn't too fond of its build quality (especially how the screen is not completely flat), I would suggest that you stick with it. There aren't too many improvements (in my opinion) that justifies the jump.

I'm very happy that i got the Amaze when i did but back then there was little to no Dev on it,but in the past month or so since S-OFF & the ICS "leak" there's been a ton of Development for it,I'm loving SpeedROM which is blazing fast & has great battery life.I came from a Sensation(which i still have but am looking to sell),the Sensation has a shiat ton of ROMs but they're all the same basically. The Amaze has a beast of a camera,is blazing fast with both cores running & Sense 3.6 is the icing on the cake,i just can't wait for Sense 4.0.
So...In my opinion the HTC Amaze is a GREAT phone(build quality is superb). If i were to add another line I'd grab another one ;-)

I agree with everything except booming development... There are less than 10 devs and not much variety to choose from. Not to mention, they're all the same devs we had with gingerbread.

Yeah it's so weird. Some people are reporting excellent battery life and others are reporting poor battery life. If it helps, I'm using the stock ROM on 2.3.4 (HTC Sense 3.0). I'm getting a replacement this Friday since the speaker randomly pops when listening to music and using the buttons on the bottom. Hopefully the phone lasts longer than this one or else I'm going to have to get a replacement battery. If none of those fix the problem, time to fire up the old MyTouch.

First off you are incorrect, that was a classic plan price, not value. Value is only sold online currently as SIM only service, phone and EIP are not given online.
regardless, the free Amaze is over and its back to $150
So what are you looking for? I've used an S2, Sensation, HD2, Vibrant, and Amaze within the past 18 months. Here are my pros/cons of my Amaze experience.
Pros:
Stable - few reboots
Best of breed camera
Build is solid
HTC mail app is better than some Android skins
Good form factor - big enough, but not too big
Resilient screen - seems more scratch-resistant than some others
Dedicated camera/camcorder buttons
Impressive data speeds
Cons:
Original battery started to occasionally lose sync with OS (which resulted in $8 to Carrier in exchange for backup battery)
Low Development on XDA
Light bleed from softkeys
NFC doesn't seem to work as advertised
Since getting the Amaze, my priorities have shifted from constant theming and modding to other things because of the lack of development and (until recently) impossibility of S-off. Now I've come to appreciate being able to effortlessly RMA my phone if necessary, and while waiting for ICS was occasionally difficult, Tmo anounced its availability in 5 days. I expect battery life to increase, latency to decrease with dual-core utilization, hopefully usefulness added to the NFC capability. But as mentioned before, if you need Roms enjoy your phone, look elsewhere.

Lol maybe u took me the wrong way. People with great battery life use aftermarket batteries and apps like juice defender. Some of them may also exaggerate their usage. Bottom line doesn't change.
With stock OEM battery, no juice defender, AND you use your phone, you ABSOLUTELY have ****ty battery life. It's simple. Not weird.
Also, some people use more widgets than others, more sync options, notification options... This isn't rocket science
Also, tapatalk is the biggest battery hog ever.

CleanRom DE Vs SlimRom, Which is better/More Stable?

I had to start this thread up because I am considering either one of these roms as my stable daily.
In my week of research after owning my Rezound, these are the best De-Sensed ICS roms out there.
I wanna know though, what are the main differences betweeen Slim Rom and Clean Rom DE?
I cant really see a difference accept, that I prefer the ICS theme on SlimRom as it takes the rom to almost AOSP in appearance.
I want something that is super fast, Clean and looks the most AOSP as possible.
It also has to be stable.
Please advise
only primary difference is slimrom has the most updated leak but cleanrom de is probably the most aosp in appearance
SlimROM ran smoother for me when I ran it.
Also consider CleanROM won't probably be updated any longer as Scott is gone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Scott did say he'll come update when official ICS comes out...not sure if that's still the case or not.
I think Scott has a Google Nexus now so I don't know if he'll take time to rebase his CleanRom when ICS is released.

Lets try to stay on topic guys.. Which one do you think is better, based on my criteria. thanks
Cleanrom de. It has more options and is smoother and more AOSP like
I would also recommend tonked Rom. It's not here. He put it up on the bamf site. I'm running it now and It's beyond smooth. I think it was right at 300mb size wise so it's pretty slimmed down

IMO, Slim Rom is the best rom out right now, that is still being maintained. By far. I get shockingly great battery life with this rom in comparison to any other rom I've ran for this phone. And it has pilots themes which are always incredible. Also, tether will work on any rooted rom as long as its setup properly. But it's easy enough to flash roms so give them both a try for a few days and see which one you prefer.

What kind of batter life are we talking here with how much usage? Ive been on a quest for better battery life and I've yet to find a ROM that is satisfactory.
I was running Tonked and liked it, but got a bit of flashitis and am running Nils business right now. I don't think I will keep it for too long as the battery life isnt any better, maybe worse but too soon to tell, and I don't think I like sense very much.

Well as I don't have exact figures for you I can tell you that the battery drain while screen is off is almost non-existent. On all of my previous ROMS I ran I would always turn off LTE unless I was going to be downloading something so I could save on battery life. WIth this rom I have LTE on 100% of the time and have far better battery life than I did when 3G was enabled on other roms. Also, when I play temple run the battery drain is almost cut in half and possibly even more compared to other roms. I use my phone constantly throughout the day and would always have my phone charging at my desk at work, but with slim rom I can easily last the whole day until I go to bed with heavy use and off the charger. I have no idea why that rom is so much better for me, but it is. Huge difference from any other rom.
I think slim rom is under 240MB...all of the normal sense stuff is ripped out and it runs amazingly. How hard is it to create a backup and flash a new rom? Just give it a try.

Oh its not at all and I will. I was just curious. I'm sure you've seen plenty of people, like I have, that say they get amazing battery life and then they post a screenshot and you see the screens never on or something like that.
I'm backing up right now as I was getting pretty terrible battery life from the Sense Rom I was running. Maybe it was still settling but its full day 2 on the ROM and no improvement, for me that's not worth waiting to see what little improvement I may get from it.

Do ROM size and Sense have any indication of battery life

A bit of a complicated title, but the basic question.
Sense vs non sense..does that affect battery life in anyway?
Also looking at the ROM size can you get an idea of how it SHOULD perform battery wise? ie do smaller ROMS, using the assumption that the have less stuff, get better battery life or if tat not necessarily true?
No, the only sure way to tell is to run it
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
The actual install footprint should make no difference since it's just sitting on the internal storage in the phone.
it's mostly usage, how bright your screem is and how long it's on. the rest is how the rom is configured and tweaked
the size is not by much
the senseless is pretty noticable

I gotta say one of the things a really dislike about sense is the browser. On vanilla you can just kill the tab and it closes the browser, cant do that with sense. So the next time I open it its at whatever page I left it at. If I don't want that I need to hit back a million times the get it back to home. Don't know really why it bothers me so much, I guess just a little idiosyncratic/OCD about it.

Yeah even on a senseless rom 3 hours of screen on time for me would be very good. Best ever would be around 2 and a half and that's with light usage. If I try to play any games drops like a stone, but I suppose that's to be expected for the most part.
That damn screen is the phones best and worst feature at the same time.

My girlfriend uses this as an iPod type device and is having a spot of trouble

The Rezound was my phone for a few months until I got sick of all of the issues I was having with it and got a Note 2 so I gave my Rezound to my girlfriend to use as an iPod. Her and I have gone through just about every rom on XDA developers including Scott's Cleanrom, Scott's cleanrom DE, Ineffibles Deus, Sense 4 roms, the BAMF roms (Viper and Pikachu) and several AOSP roms and they all have the same problems.
Lackluster performance. Incredibly laggy. To the point where the HTC Incredible I had before the Rezound is actually smoother. Pulling down the notification bar results in extremely choppy performance. Scrolling through the homescreens, opening the app drawer, pinching and zooming in browsers, any and all games (Even temple run). Everything just runs terribly. And this is across every single rom (Ones I tried when I used it as a phone ones she's tried since I gave it to her). The Incredible should not be faster than a phone that came out at the end of 2011.
SystemUI crashes randomly. Again, across every rom seemly at random. I noticed this as well while I was using the phone. Several times a day.
In music players, the sound will skip. Very frequently.
Battery Life, with an extended battery is horrific. Just about 3 hours of screen on time at the lowest battery life. Keep in mind, she's using this as an iPod so data and radios are off. My Note 2, max brightness, GPS, wifi, data on gets 7 hours of screen on time. The battery is slightly larger (3100mah vs I beleive 2750mah? but considering mobile data is never on the battery life should be much higher no?).
Now, the point of this topic is I would like to see if there is anything I can do to maybe get this running better for her. She's coming from an iPod Touch 4G that was dropped and shattered so this is a significant downgrade in this condition. I've gone back to stock several times to no avail. Stock rom has the same issues so I'm afraid its a hardware issue because I know many of you are happy with the Rezound and I can't imagine any of you being happy with the experience I described. I should have gotten it replaced right before I gave it to her but didn't. Just wondering if there may be any software issue I'm missing.
Apologize for the wall of rant post.

Not under warranty anymore?
It's probably the battery.
You should try getting another new OEM battery... stay away from knockoffs, they use inferior cells that tend to hold about 50% to 75% of the charge of an OEM battery.
Try using a standard (non-extended) battery, and see how long it lasts compared to the supposed "extended" battery you're using now.
In fact, most reviewers were able to get 7 hours of wifi browsing in reviews, and 5.5 hours using 3G/4G
Listening to music should last at least 7 hours, if not more, on the stock battery,
I still think that the smoothest ROM on here is CM9. Bluetooth audio streaming works great so it makes a wonderful music device.

What effect do you think firmware has on battery life?

Lately my battery usage in battery monitor widget has been going over 1000ma multiple times a day. In fact this has been the case both at the beginning of my Rezound's life on the first firmware, and again now.
At one time in between I used to never see it go over at most 700ma, and experienced reasonable battery life too. Usually I saw about 70ma to 300ma usage. This was with several different roms on the same firmware. I think it was the first or second ICS firmware but I don't remember for sure.
I'm starting to think the firmware a few versions ago was better on battery life. What do you guys think?
I was running GB with the old firmware up until just last week. I was averaging about 20 hours on a full charge with 1-2 hours of screen on time. The rom ran great and the only issue I really had was my 4G would cut out completely whenever I tried to play Youtube videos....
Last week I updated to the latest official ICS global rom with the new radios and firmware, and my battery life has gone in the toilet. I'm averaging about 15 hours on a full charge with the same 1-2 hours of screen on time. My phone gets MUCH hotter when just doing simple things like browsing the web, often getting above 100* F. On GB firmware I was usually in the mid 90's unless I was gaming. This is with the stock kernel. For the past couple days I've been trying FunkyKernel with some under clocking and undervolting which has helped the heat but not so much the battery life.
I'm kinda pissed and strongly considering finally going S-OFF just so I can roll back to the old firmware.
I actually think I had the best battery life on the first ics firmware, but like I said it might have been the second one. I don't remember how many there have been, but I have done all of them.
This latest one just seems to suck down power.
Anybody else have some input?
I just recently updated to the official global firmware and am running Rezone Redux with Funky 3.7. I'm not doing any undervolting and the only change I made to the frequencies was setting the min to 96 and the max to the stock 1512. With my extended battery, I'm averaging around 4.5 hours of screen on time, which is actually about 30 minutes more than I've ever gotten out of this battery. Then again, I keep my data, WiFi, and GPS off at all times unless they're needed, screen brightness at 13%, I'm using an app called Greenify to hibernate certain apps (not freeze, there's a difference), and I'm using the Wheatley governor. I'm very happy with this setup.

So maybe it isn't affecting your as much because you keep your radios turned off. I also use greenify and it has definitely helped.
I might go a day with my mobile data enabled all day and see what happens. I got into the habit it of toggling my data off about a year ago. The only reasons for me to keep it on would be weather updates and Facebook notifications, neither of which is really important enough to me to have them refresh automatically. I don't use push email or anything like that, either. I suppose it would make a difference for someone who needed instant email notifications and such.

I also keep data off most of the time unless the phone is plugged in, but still, battery just hasn't been the same since the latest firmware update...
I want to update you guys on my battery issue I thought was related to the new firmware. Every rom I had used since the newest firmware release was horrible on battery life. Using battery monitor widget to monitor power usage, I was often seeing over 1000ma usage many times per day.
I recently installed neo's infection 2.9.1 which uses a stock kernel based off Flahalf's work. My extreme battery drain is gone! The highest usage I have seen in 2 days is around 500ma, and normally it is 100ma or less! Not only that but this Rom is smokin fast. It feels like a new phone!
And it fixed wireless tethering! I'm so happy and thankful for the awesome work or devs have been doing. Thanks guys!
Unfortunately for peeps like me who enjoy gaming on their phone, the JB roms aren't all that great. Graphics performance is generally poor....
Maybe you should give it another try. I just played some shadow gun and the performance was fine.

Then you must not have looked very hard, it is here on XDA in the Rezound Original Development forum, along with other amazing ROMs like Tron, Beanstock, Liquid Smooth, PAC-Man, etc.
[ROM][GPL][CDMA/GSM][Jb-4.2.2]☣INFECTION-2.9.1☣[07/20/13][CM-10.1.2][LINARO-4.8] will take you right to the Infection thread!
Well I thank you for the post and help I keep forgetting there are two separate forms for DEV now which i really never understood why they made two.
Thanks
