Video - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hey guys..... What's the best way to get DVDs or BluRays onto the SGs3?
tia!!

I just drag and drop, pc automatically encodes the video to a format the s3 can play, and seemed to have done a pretty good job........this was for hd based movie.. dvd ,might be different since its not just a single file normally for that you might have to run a 3rd party program to convert to single file, unless bsplayer can detect dvd_video structure as well?

Movie player?

Hello
I wonder what program/codec pack I should use to be able to watch the films that I watch on my computer. On my PC I use Media Player Classic with K-lite codec pack and I can watch mostly all film formats, including .flv and stuff. On my HTC I can hardly watch anything. I currently have Core Media Player and Windows media Player on my phone. What do I miss?
Thanks!
Mne
Try This...
I've used this for over a year now. It's not designed specifically for the Rose, but it works - that's all that matters!
Set the output resolution to VGA (640x480) and they will play fine. You can play the converted videos with HTC Album, no special codecs, or additional software required. I use it to converted .avi and .flv, but I'm sure it will convert a lot more than just those two formats
On my S710 (not tried on my S740) I use PocketTV Classic (free one) or TCPMP (Core Media Player) depending on the file type. Either is 100x better than Windows Media Player for any video I've tried but as grahamkdt pointed out you should use a utility to convert the source videos to a phone-friendly format: type (diff compression types require more or less CPU usage & may only work with certain players), resolution (pref match your screen res) and bit-rates that your media & phone can keep up so it's not choppy. Once you optimize video files & try a few players you should be able to get some pretty decent playback on a Rose considering I was able to on my old S710 which has a lot less power.

Cool thanks, hadn't seen that version.
As far as converting, why make your phone work harder than it has to & waste a ton of space on your storage card when you can just spend a few minutes converting videos to optimize for your phone? Especially with super fast computers these days it doesn't take a few seconds to a few minutes now. Of course you wouldn't convert in certain circumstances (like if the original wasn't very hi-res to start with) especially if you're only going to watch it once & delete to free up space but if you plan to keep it why not shrink it down and have it play even smoother? Besides they copy over usb or onto flash a lot faster when they're smaller. Plus not sure any phone can handle HD let alone blueray yet and who'd waste the space if it could.
haha yes i know bill, but in my case, unfortunately, i suffer from a serious case of laziness and procrastination so i just can't really be bothered with getting more programs and go through all the work to convert stuff, i dun even convert the ones that i want but can't watch on the mobile lol those that i want but can't i just watch them on the computer and curse my mobile with some nasty words

[Q] Anyone else having problems with the stock Vibrant Video Player?

Hey guys,
So I was wondering if anyone else thinks the video player on the Vibrant is really lacking in terms of functionality. The device says that it can play .avi files (and then some) but when I download files from my PC to the phone (I transferred a few episodes of The Simpsons and Pixar's UP), it simply says "Unsupported Filed Type".
Does anyone else have this problem? I've also tried downloading official .divx files (movie trailers) from divx.com that I know should work on the Vibrant, but it still doesn't.
Now, I've downloaded RockPlayer and all those files that couldn't be played with the stock video player now plays perfectly. Now, what am I missing here? It's not an issue with my particular phone right? Additionally, if the phone is marketed as a multimedia phone that supports a wide variety of file types, it kind of sucks that it can't even play on the stock video player.
[PS. The files I transferred to my phone can play fine on a PS3, so the format should be correct, I believe]
Often the issue is a particular encoding or the resolution is too high. I use MediaCoder to do my conversions, because Rockplayer freezes occasionally on me.
The avi files in PC (usually downloaded from torrents) tend to be encoded with special codecs and not all players can play it. Even in the PC, if you don't have VLC player, some times they don't play in computer itself...
Convert them to supported formats before copying them to mobile.

i once read an article about this, it supply all information we need to copy DVDs to tab, below is the link, you may have a look:
DVD movies for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 full-screen playback
ok, handbreak maybe good
i also try the brorsoft converter, the free trial version
both of them you can have a try
I know this is an old thread, but I have been using Freemake to rip DVD to any format you want. I was searching trying to figure out best format and found this thread. I did several movies with the "android" preset in Freemake, and they turned out very well. I am currently trying the MP4 preset. It takes a while to convert on my computer (like 4 to 5 hours) but the quality is good for both video and audio. The file sizes for a 3 hour DVD are around 2 to 3 GB.
I use MX Video Player to play the files on the tab. There are lots of options out there, and everyone has their opinions, but it works for me.
SUPER video converter: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
This is decent stuff, not copied software with overnight packed malware. I use this converter since ages and it's probably as old as virtual dub.
Open source (I think) and free!

Video converter for Gnote?

Hello all. I have tons of movies that I'm interested in transferring over to my note. I noticed that I couldn't do it on the fly using Kies air. It says it only caps it at 400mb or something. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a great video converter (paid or free) that's easy to use so I can add some movies to my note. I have blurays so one that can convert them as well would be useful.
For my DVD library I've been using DVD Decrypter to rip the discs to the hard drive and then WinX Free VD to MP4 to convert them. I turn the gain up on the audio, and encode the highest audio quality possible. Seemed to me on lower settings, the audio gets away from the video a bit. Not sure if that's exactly what you meant, but hope it helps.
I don't know what I am doing differently than you guys, but if I plug my phone in and drag and .avi file to my phones memory or the SD card, windows will prompt me to convert for my phone or just copy as is... If I choose convert it will auto resize for the notes screen. One file takes about 14 mins to convert / copy. The only thing I have done is installed Samsung's USB drivers.. Screenie below
Why do you use Kies to add content to your note? when transferring large files to my devices its much much faster to do it via USB rather than hogging up bandwidth using WiFi--and there's no limit !!
When I do want to use WiFi, I don't use Kies. I use Airdroid but still, only for smaller file sizes for the same reason as above.
I dont rip DVDs anymore but back in the day I used to use vob to avi to rip and nandub to add the sound. quality was always great but I haven't ripped any DVDs in like 7yrs. I buy DVDs to watch on my TV and I ******** them from ******* to watch on my devices.

That's interesting. I wonder if it'll work with mkv. files. Also, BR movies are around 5-10gigs so I don't know if windows converts them to a smaller size or just adjust the screen to fit the note.

I guess since it's over wifi I imagined it would still be somewhat fast transfer. Also why are those words deleted out of your posts?? Serious question?
I can't say for BR movies but I do know that it will take anything above the notes resolution and convert it to fit (which reduces file size as well) The Biggest movie I have on the note is 890meg converted. The pre-converted file was 3.8gig with screen ratio of 16:9 (1920x1080). When I check the process that's doing the converting it's Windows Media Player. I would imagine if you have the codecs installed on your pc and wmp can access them it would convert anything automatically.
Edit: Just checked, yeah mkv files will convert, the codec package I had installed on my machine is "Sharks codec's for Windows 7" -> http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html
If any when anyone install's those pay attention to the installer, even though they are free, the dev tries to sneak in a couple toolbars (ask / bing) so be sure and not install that extra bloat, unless you want it of course.

[Q] Transfer of video files

Hey,
I wanted to know if there is a way to transfer video files from laptop to my phone , xperia P without converting the videos. Whenever i try to copy movies and music videos they ask for converting the videos before copying. After skipping the conversion part i was unable to play the video. It was lagging and getting stuck. And converting took several hours. Could anyone advise me if there is a possibility to transfer video files to android phone without converting. The very same video i am successfully able to download through my phone but not able to transfer to my phone. Requesting for your opinions and suggestions.
what s the resolution of videos u want to transfer?
Irrespective of the resolution all videos require conversion. for eg: recently i tried to transfer a video of matroska format 1280x544 pixels. Again the same thing popped up but when i downloaded the video through torrents it played without any problem. Even the smaller resolution ones too. Very few times and that too countable ones i was able to copy with out any trouble. For eg. once i transferred a video of 10MB size , mp4 format and it copied without conversion (sorry i don't remember the resolution of it) .
