[Q] samsung sgs2 i777 wont boot up when connected - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

ive searched xda for a couple of days, ive googled, ive youtubed. and nothing has helped. seems like not many people are having this problem. but i recently got a galaxy s2 i777. stock GB firmware. stock everything. everything on it worked fine all connections and all the other good stuff. the only problem is when i try to charge it via wall charger it automatically shuts off and flashes the battery charging over and over again. (btw when i plugged in i CAN boot into download mode) same thing happens when plugged via usb. So i got tired and i odined flashed ICS because i read that would fix many bugs.. to my surprise it fixed the battery flashing issue and now when its off and plugged in it charges like it normally would but i CANNOT boot up when its connected to any power source. and even on ICS it still shuts itself off when plugged in. i need to know how i can get it to stay turned on when charging.
sorry if its a little long guys. i hope you can help me solve this problem, and to the ones that are gonna ask why i started a new thread just for this.. well because no one else seems to be having my specific problem. tThank you guys so much in advance for your help

Are you using an after market battery? If yes, try swapping it out with a factory one

Stock sgs2 att batteries?
(⊙_⊙)

Sounds like the battery is the problem. Make sure the battery you have is NFC. Immediately under the Samsung logo at the top on both sides, it should say Near Field Communication.

The other option of course is to try flashing a different Rom and kernel and see if the problem persists. But they're most likely correct, you'll probably need a new stock battery. Some phones you can use a battery bought from anywhere, our phones are just kinda temperamental. Most likely because of the NFC capability but that's just a guess.

When using a stock Sammy Rom you need a stock battery w/NFC. A Aokp/Cm9 can sometimes use an after market battery. I found that out after buying one without NFC and it did what you describe. Right now I am running Task AOKP with non NFC batt and everything is fine.

[Q] Phone thinks it is charging when it's not

So my i777 running ICSrewed 2.0.1 with siyah kernel and previously hellraised CheckROM thinks its changing when it isn't. To be more correct it starts and stops charging every couple seconds when no usb is connected. So it will vibrate in my pocket every few second when it thinks i disconnected the usb cable. When turned off the phone flashes the battery charging screen followed by the battery screen with the yellow triangle and thermometer. This happens no matter what. I've reflashed my rom, tried entropy's DD instead of siyah kernel with no results. Also it seems to have several different ideas about the battery level, if i restart the phone the battery level usually changes by around 20%.
I'm not running any setCPU or UV apart from whats build into the kernel. Phone is only about 2 months old and is always kept in an industrial ballistic case.
Any ideas? Am i looking at a hardware issue or something that could be software related?
Thanks in advance
Any help is greatly appreciated
Sounds like 1 of 3 things IMO .. either the OS is freaking out or your battery is defective or your miniUSB connection is dirty/messed up/bent.
I had the issue after about a month where my GSII would go into car dock mode out of the blue for no reason. Voice search would fire up randomly. A factory reset fixed mine but there are tons of people that have reported the miniUSB needing cleaning (and/or a touch of grease) and resolved the issue.

It's your USB port. It's done. Use warranty, replace it. There is no fix. It happened to me as well. Be sure to revert your phone back to stock, then wipe the internal SD card as well. Look through the threads in General for the revert to stock by Entropy.

Yes, this. There are several threads in Q&A or General (including one by me) regarding USB port failures. The behaviors you describe are pretty much across-the-board for those of us who had this happen. As recommended above - warranty replacement is the way to go - they may make you go through a bunch of steps prior to approving your RMA - a common one seems to be to try another battery. As far as I know, this has not worked for anyone who tried it.
Yes - your described symptoms are consistent with what appears to be the most likely hardware failure scenario I777 owners are going to encounter if they encounter any hardware failures.
I have same problem.but just started since running ics screwed same version...never happened on any others

Thanks everyone, that's what i was thinking, it was just strange because apart from the phone freaking out in my pocket it hasn't had any effect, the usb works for everything else.
I don't think it's ISCrewed in particular, it started when i was on CheckROM, i flashed ISCrewed just in case it was something about the hellraised rom.
Thanks again, back to my cappy i guess
I have the identical issue. Many times a day the phone "chirps" and thinks it has been plugged in/unplugged in, though it hasn't. It also enters and exits driving mode on a similarly random basis. Unfortunately I bought this phone used (though the problem only started this week, and I've owned the phone for 2 months), so I'm fearing that I won't be eligible for RMA. Has anyone had success using the Samsung manufacturer's warranty when they aren't the original purchaser?

Unnamed 2.2.1
hmm weird I was having problem on ics screwed changed and now no problem recently..hoping it isn't the port!
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
I've been running Unnamed 2.2.1 since late December, and the problem only started a few days ago, which makes me think it's probably not software related, at least in my case. I've read many accounts of GS2 owners whose USB ports start flaking out and causing identical problems to what I'm experiencing, so my hunch is that's what it is. Before I look into a warranty return, I'm going to clean out the port with rubbing alcohol and a paintbrush.
I had this happen as well. It seemed to happen soon after I would flash siyah kernel. happened 3-4 times. For the past month or so have been running only entrophys dd kernel and have not had the issue come back yet.
I was running siyah too been running entropys fine since i switched..idk if kernel glitch or just coincidence

Been there, done that
I had the exact same problems described above a few months ago. Thankfully, a "knowledgeable" AT&T rep just gave me an 800 number to call...did their obligatory troubleshooting and sent me a replacement (took a few days). Of course, I ordered a USB jig to erase the "root" counters just in case.
I noticed the problem on UnNamed (although it ended up not being the ROM of course) and switched to CM7....seems like I either never had the problem on CM7 or it took a really long time to come back.
Regardless, while i was waiting on the replacement, I removed the battery and, as was said above, swished around a small paintbrush dipped in rubbing alcohol in the USB port....didn't have the problem again. Went ahead and switched out phones anyway...but appeared to be "fixed". Kinda sad though...I rarely even use the USB (switch out between 3 batteries)...never had that kind of problem with my previous "fruit" phone. ;-)
I swabbed out the USB port with rubbing alcohol two days ago, and the problem hasn't happened since then. That same day, and since then, I've stopped keeping the phone in the bathroom while I take a shower, on the thinking that the steam could be aggravating the problem. Don't know whether the alcohol or the no-bathroom rule has helped things, but the problem seems to be gone for now.

Yep , mine has just started doing this the other day... Bent the usb port pins a bit and while it is stuck in charging mode (it thinks) it is not jumping to the dock or anything... so as long as i dont turn it off im ok for now.
Question is , I am running an ICS build AKOP 4.0.3 , do you think it could be safe doing triangle away (since the usb port is pretty much gone to try a jig might not be worth it) and mobile odin to flash back to stock so that I can bring it into my local att store and see what I can do there?

You could try telling Samsung that it was a gift. They should be able to determine the original purchase date from the IMEI. I've never dealt with Samsung directly, only At&t. I did a warranty replacement on my original SII last month for the same issue and am now in the process of getting a 2nd replacement for the same issue. Just an FYI, revert to stock before you call them, they'll ask what version you're running, I was running 2.3.4 stock last night. They decided to push the 2.3.6 update to my phone and said I'd have to wait 24 hours before continuing onto getting another replacement. You'll also want to tell them you've already done a factory reset, it'll save you time. I'd recommend grabbing a beer or two for the call, makes working your way through their troubleshooting a bit easier.

[Q] Flash LED always on

Hi Everyone!
I had updated my rom on 9100G to stock ICS from samfirmware few days ago. It worked fine for few days and now, the flash led is always on (even when the phone is off). Do you think its a hardware issue or a ROM issue?
Regards,
Eddie
lolwut. You're saying the flash LED is always on? So it's like walking around with a light bulb in your pocket? Hahahaha, well I shouldn't worry, the LED will probably have burnt out by the time you read this.
remove battery restart phone and see if that happens,
wipe your phone using dial code after saving your stuff and see if that happens
last resort flash a new ROm after full wipe
or repair job

Hey there plz note that having ur led on while the device is off can't be done technically i suppose that you mean that when the device is locked.
Anyway try to pull the battery off the device and install teslaled flashlight from play store and force it to swich the camera led off . Let me know are you having your device rooted or not ?

I think it is quite normal that your phone is not charging, when the battery is not inserted and connected to the charger >.> but funnies aside,
If that didnt happen before you flashed to the latest ICS firmware(original) then there is a software issue regarding it, something is forcing your led to be on. probably a malfunctioning flashlight app that is not compatible with ICS.

OMG.. really? I thought that was understandable.. i put the damn battery back to charge it buddy.. LOL.
I took the phone to the service center.. They claim that its a HW issue.

When Battery is charged fully,it immediatly go down to 99%?????

I had this problem since the second day i've got the galaxy s3 in the international version at first i thought that it was the firmeware that came with the phone is crap,so i changed to another stock ROM from Sammobile and nothing changed always the same prob,Share your thought and somebody please give me the reason or a solution to this damn problem. Thanks in advance.

Problem??? Because it drops to 99% after you unplug the charger??? That's way within the tolerances of the charge circuit. The real question is what kind of battery life are you getting?
FWIW, My stock T-Mobile SGS-III (i.e. dual core Snapdragon S4) often displays 99% when I unplug the charger. However, it's inconsequential as I get a full day of service from this battery

Mine still stays on 100% approx an hour later. I.use to have that problem, u need to use different kernel like phenomenal 2.0 or siyah 1.5 beta3

Weird
Hmm that's weird, cause mine doesn't jump to 99% when i unplug charger (on stock firmware)
What firmware are you using now ?
If I were to unplug my phone and not touch it or wake it up it would be on 100% for 1.5 hours.
samsung made it like this to prevent overcharging well it was on S2
Happens to me as well, i've assumed it's just the battery fuel gage calibration being a bit off, and that's likely what it really is. This doesn't really matter, the fuel gage isn't very precise anyway, by design, so who cares.
This is not a problem.
The battery meter is reset everytime your phone charges to 100%.
Unplugged and checked an hour later and still at 100%...stock non rooted.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Its supposed to do that to prevent overcharging or so I've heard but if you leave it plugged in for quite a while, it should stick at 100%.
Mine used to display 99%, but since a recent OTA update, it now stays on 100% once unplugged. Samsung must have altered it. Im on Stock Rom.

[Q] How you fixed your random reboots.?

Hi all, i want to know methods how different people saved this issue on amaze, i have but i cant fix it i tried different methods, but all that help only for some time. I opened this thread for other people(i think many people experience this problem) for finding the fix. Thanks for reading and answering.
There is no way to answer such a general question like this with such limited detail. There are so many things that can cause random reboots: bad battery, problem with an app, rom, kernel, etc. How r we suppose to be able to know what is causing your reboots, you didn't even say what your phone's current setup is: unlocked/locked, custom rom/stock, cust kernel/stock, etc.
A lot of amaze owners have had problems with battery going bad and random reboots being one of the issues. So that may be one thing to try. Good luck

Problem solved
Nobody with any knowledge is having random reboots. Its usually the people who flashed a ROM incorrectly, is using an unstable ROM build, over/under clocked their CPU too much or under volted their CPU too much. I never once had a random reboot that i didnt provoke (which means it wasn't random) unless I was using an unstable ROM.

Battery caused my randoms. Anker took care of it. Or you can opt for OEM but most likely happen again.

But after returning to stock i am only having reboots at nearly 20%, and it is like phone trying to confidure, to calibrate its battery, it is rebooting 2 times, it shows 5% and there are no more reboots. OK, I THINK I MIGHT HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!!!!
I bought an Anker battery. After a while, it will start doing the random reboot things. The cool thing is, the Anker batteries come with an external charger. If I take the battery out of the phone and use the charger, it seems to "reset" the battery so it works fine for a while.
I'm startting to think there is an issue with the charging system on the phone - who knows.
thank!!!

One Quick Solution
Okay so this is just one quick solution for those specific people out there that have had random reboots on EVERY ROM they try. A good friend of mine had constant reboots even on modified stock ROMs like Revolution HD which I have never had rebooting issues. We noticed the battery was easily removed when taking off the backing so we inserted a paper index card on the bottom to decrease the gap and make the fit slightly tighter. We just cut an index card to about the size of an inch in length and the same width as the battery compartment and then folded it in an L shape inserted it in the bottom of the battery slot and his phone has seen nearly 0 reboots since doing this. Seems like a dumb issue but it is worth a try especially if your Amaze has taken some physical abuse.
Still having problems. No idea what to try anymore. Might have to bite the bullet and get another phone. Never again HTC.

Wife had the same problems...
a little background of her Amaze issues:
- tmobile stock ICS ROM, not rooted, about 16 months old.
- after about a year random reboots begin and get more frequent, sometimes 6-7 times daily
- replaced with new Anker battery. problems go away for about 2 weeks
- after about a month, phone no longer charges (no orange light) using the original ac adapter and usb cable
- gave in and called HTC (from htc.com:United States/English/+1-866-449-8358/08:00 - 01:00 ET (7 days a week))
- got a RMA number and paid for shipping (~ $6 with Insurance at USPS) to Texas
- HTC returned her Amaze (same IMEI number), fixed under warranty. Not exactly sure what they replaced/fixed as they did not provide details.
If you're in a last resort type of situation, give them a call...you never know! Since being fixed, it's been rooted and NRG ICS Blue ROM and 4EXT recovery flashed, just like mine. All is great...for now... If Amaze dies again, not sure what phone to get next.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Possible Death?

Hi there,
For a few days now I have been experiencing random reboots of my phone and I've always just thought that it was the ROM I was on (Omega) as I did not update it for a time (Not too long). Now the phone has decided to keep rebooting and I have installed a recovery of a stock ROM. It also won't turn on sometimes and when it does it just shows a picture of a battery when plugged into a charger. Sometimes it shows charge and sometimes it says there is no charge at all. It also turns itself off sometimes when plugged into a charger. I am not sure whether this is SDS? Any ideas to save my S3?
Cheers,
Jon

Flashed a stock ROM, unrooted as well. Problems still occurred and now trying a factory reset. If that doesn't work then I will try a new battery. If all else fails it may have to go back to Samsung as I'm still under warranty.
You should have really tried replacing your battery before anything. It seems like that's the problem
