Well I have been part of the Android community for a few years now and Xperia U is my latest device and I was wondering if anyone has successfully got CM running on this device ?
Not seen a lot of cyan development for it, but its a great little device, I was given one by Ducksmith to test for a week and had great results. If your desperate for cyanogenmod, compile it from source or just have pure AOSP compiled.

I think its a brilliant little device and its actually rather cheap. I don't think there will be much modding on for it tbh since it doesnt even have a Micro SD slot so that will be a pain to install roms using CWM im guessing.

Just a question, which I am rather confused about how will they be able to flash custom ROM's via CWM since the phone has no MicroSD slot?

New versions of CWM and derivatives can flash files from internal storage.
Hey dean,
I'm in FreeXperia team as a side developer and I'm getting an Xperia U when I have enough money, so I'll be helping with CM on the U.
I also hope to get AOKP on it
Cheers,

At current time we don't have recovery for this device yet
But hopefully we will have soon.
Another thing, boot partition on the 2012 line are all visible when boot loader is unlocked, so, you will be able to flash kernels in clockwork mod.
Afaik internal memory is mounted at /sdcard
Hi dean
Good to see you here!!
Freexperia will work on cyanogenmod when kernel 3.0 sources are released (3.0 kernel Will come with ics update)
Recovery will be easy (at least on p)
Give me:
Adb shell cat /proc/partitions
Output and i will try to make a recovery for the u (if you are fast enough i can work on it tonight)

Hello Keiran!
What do you think, will we get root exploit for this phone? I can't unlock my bootloader(and i think there are a lot of people who can't), so i can't flash kernel and i need root for flash cwm.
Or maybe if i unlock the sim-lock i can unlock my bootloader too?

Hey,
I think you will, because I think that there might be a way to unlock the boot loader another way in the future.
But for CM and AOKP, you will need unlocked bootloader as it requires you to flash a different kernel.
I will be working to get AOKP on the U and will be also be helping with FXP team to get CM on the U too. But some stuff still needs to be opensourced for the st-ericsson board the Xperia U, Sola and P use.

So, preview of SEtweak (pre1) is out!
It's quite incomplete, without Synaptics DT, not netfilter and OC. I also forgot to enable NTFS, sorry
Just a proof of concept for those unwilling to unlock bootloader.
X8gesture will insmod fine.
Cypress users: remove DT module because this kernel already includes it!
Includes CIFS and tun - who need it, will know, who doesn't need it/know, don't bother
Download: -not working-
FTF bundle. Place to flashtool\firmwares, in GUI select X8 SEtweak-pre1 FW and flash it.
FreeXperia logo instead of SE standard, and [email protected] instead of [email protected] are easiest way to see that you have custom kernel.
Forgot to note: this kernel has gingerbread ramdisk, meaning it's for GB ROMs! Maybe works on stock, but may won't be stable!
Will include:
* Cypress dualtouch
* Syaptics fake dual touch
* custom netfilter tables
* overclock
Standard SEtweak features:
* NTFS
* ext4
* swap
* USB OTG experimental
* tun/tap/CIFS

Lol nice evaluation.
I've been too busy to follow these changes recently. Btw what do you mean by nand initialization. We need to fix nand detection or something?
Send from my GingerDX using XDA App
I talked to FXP about that NAND init. and it seems it wasn't actually SE's mistake, that's why kernel works after all and NAND init is fine.

Being part of FXP, my SEtweak will be based on FXP's kernel from github repo, and I'll include recovery in ramdisk as well.
It will, however, be modified and will have standard SEtweak features listed in first post.

Hmm... S1Boot actually handles partitions so I'm not sure... also, yaffs2 FS is made specially for NAND flash chips in phones, so ext4 shouldn't give much boost - absolute need for ext4 conversion is present only on Samsung phones which use rfs by default, and that's quite slow.

I guess that the problem is that some devs didn´t migrate to CWM, and if we switch to this ROM which is using only CWM, then we need to back to stock, install xrecovery and then the other ROM , since CWM doesn´t install zip files made for xRecovery.

Well, ask ROM dev to convert amend script to edify, or do it yourself with aZuZu's tool. I will not include xRecovery because CWM supersedes it and it's official FXP's recovery.

ANDROID RAMDIZK FOR JB ON XPERIA U
Hi all, my purpose is to create a mount point for the android system jb, according to knowledge, with modifications you can start ramdizk latest android on the same kernel.
ACCORDING TO MY EXPERIENCE IN JB ICS AND LIBRARIES USED FOR THE SAME IN THIS CASE MALI400 GPU, so it's nothing to make forced changes in the kernel.
What you need to do is make changes to the ramdizk.
You can obtain these files from a jb kernel and extract the ramdizk creating mount points for the start of the software ...
I invite you to participate and contribute to achieving ramdizk, I'm working on this ...
IN X8 SECTION, IS POSSIBLE BOOT ANDROID 2.2 AND 2.3 ON STOCK KERNEL WITH MODIFICATIONS ON RAMDIZK
Based on some reference books I read, an Android system starts up in following main steps:
CPU reads a hard-coded address which usually points to some bootloader program
The bootloader initializes the RAM, puts basic hardware in a quiescent state, loads the the kernel and RAM disk, and jumps to the kernel.
start_kernel() initializes subsystems and proceeds to call the init function of built-in drivers.
The kernel mount its root system (from ramdisk.img).
init.rc is then called to set up the environment variables such as system path, mount other filesystems, start native daemons and so on.
Now, to answer your question: "Is it possible to mount a ramdisk in Android before the Android framework starts, but after the underlying Linux kernel has started?" -- I think this is exactly what android did.
INITS
The fixes required for ramdisk.tar :
init.rc file should have 2 parts from original sony init.rc that are marked as #SEMC
add original init.delta.rc and init.delta.sh from sony or one of my ramdisks, those are responsible for service declarations.
THIS IS A KERNEL FOR GB, ICS AND JB NAA KERNEL
Ramdizk Inector tool
INIT FOR JB HERE
IM ALREADY HAVE THE ROM... IM NEED BOOTIMG FROM JB... ONLY INITS AND COMPILE THIS... WE CAN USE ATIS RAMDISK AS A BASE
PROGRESS
I AM STARTING TO WORK ON THIS

Dear brother, I was a X8 user and a fan of your stock SGM CM7. I agree with the fact that stock ramdisk can goes a long way. But brother, it is not the same here in Xperia U. But I'm waiting for you to hear good news
P.S: Our X8 cannot run 4.0 and up well. You know that. And also CM7 is a big laggy. At some point, it will be same here for booting up JB with ICS ramdisk

Attempting to use Nandroid Restore can lead to a perma brick .
Consider Nandroid to be permanently broken on this kernel.
Features :
100 mb shrinked from system to /data (For more internal memory ofcourse )
cache reduced to 8mb
Some touch tweaking (11 mb more ram Thanks @Dark Raven )
Toolchain used:
Linaro 4.7 by @Wedgess
Unique Feature
Modified partition layout which works flawless as far as my knowledge .
One Layout is maintains original system Layout ,The rest of 5 layouts come with Modified System Layout .
All Kernels have 8 MB cache partition so by default roughly 90MB bump in /Data is seen .
The best results with latest LX builds
-CM11.0-
Changelog:
Code:
V3
-- 201401227--
Reclaimed 60 mb more space
Same as LX 20140122 LX CM11 build
V2
-- 201401227--
Reclaimed 6 mb more space
Same as LX 20140122 LX CM11 build
V1
-- 20140122 --
Like in 20140122 LX CM11.0 build.
Steps to be followed:
Flash kernel (boot.img)
Boot to recovery, do all the wipes (data, cache, system, dalvik)
flash the rom zip
flash the minimal gapps if u want (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48535200&postcount=4)
boot
Note:
1) If you donot format system the rom wont boot even if your on same rom with different kernel. SO its mandatory
2) Flashing the whole gapps will result in a bootloop as i have shrinked a good amount of system size (~100mb)
3) You can run ART well but please donot report issues if your running ART as it is experimental (mike already said that)

Sorry if i forgot someone personally, please PM me.
So just for fun , i removed camera from kernel (29mb more ram). I dont use my neo v to capture photos so i am fine without camera. hence i made this with help of @Attitude.SSJ . Everything works as per above kernel by me and it has same features except camera (since i removed it ). clicking on camera in appdrawer wil give fc i hope you understand why. i would strongly recommend this kernel only when u dont need camera or you dont use it and Incase anyone is Freeram-freak like me can use this version. Download in the second post.
Enjoy!
Wow! Let's try!
I've tried with the LX Stock Kernels and Dark Raven Kernel and in only 2 days i've downgrade to JB (4.1.2) or ICS Roms cause a high battery drain by kernel wakelocks

Thank you. Let me know how it goes. Read instructions well before going ... Full wipe Compulsory. Good luck. Happy flashing!
Cheers,
Vatsal
Good work @koradiavatsal
Just my 2 cents
If you cant boot in recovery after flashing kernel then go back to fastboot mode and
Code:
fastboot erase system
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
and reboot device

Just a small correction... It frees 29mb ram not 19... 29 feels better than 19

@koradiavatsal a step forward always good, all the best we can expect more from you now onwards
nandroid restore will cause perma brick? thats a bit too dangerous.
i think no nandroid backup/restore support is useless for me as im always backuping my system in case i mess it up.
