Okay so this is how it is.
6 months ago when I bought my GNex it was carrier locked. I had to wait forever for Vodafone to release updates, I was stuck on 4.0.1 even though 4.0.4 had already been rolled out. At the point I snapped. I set up fastboot, unlocked bootloader and flashed the official Google yakju build. After that I received the OTA with in seconds and was able to update to the latest firmware.
About 2 weeks ago, I upgraded to the Galaxy S 3. It is also carrier based and I'm still on the initial release firmware:

I never receive updates and the bugs I'm facing are killing me. So my question is, would I be able to flash an unbranded STOCK Samsung Firmware in which will enable me to update via OTA or Kies without the carrier delays?
I'm on the I9300T as you can see and live in Australia.
Please make things clear..
EDIT: I have found this link.. what Di you guys think about this process?

There are none available for Australia..
The only one available for the I9300T is for Thailand and that's the same one that was explained in the link in my first post.

Is there really a hardware difference between i9300T and i9300? Or "T" is just indicating a model no. tailored for some parts of the world?

I get mixed opinions on that.. I'm not sure what to do.
Typed on my Galaxy S 3 ♡
The difference with the T version is the modem I think, it is supposed to be more tuned to the 850mhz frequency.
Afaik the roms are the same but you should be using a T version modem.

So do you recommend I flash the Thailand I9300T version or does it have to be Australian specific?
Typed on my Galaxy S 3 ♡
Well I think any firmware will do, I'm not 100% certain but I saw someone that flashed one and they were wondering if it made a difference and someone else posted that the only difference between the i9300 and the i9300T was the modem.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yeah I saw that too.. I just hope it works and doesn't have a drastic effect.
Typed on my Galaxy S 3 ♡
First make a nandroid backup, and then flash the latest LFB ROM of any region.
See if it works. Of not, flash the Aus modem. If it works, you're good to go.
If not, try flashing the Thailand ROM you mentioned. If nothing works restore Nandroid.

I recommend flashing XXLFB I'm on Vodafone aus and flashed it few days back and it works very well. You can't flash other modems but the modem works better than vodafones. As far as I9300 +I9300T on the sgs2 the T model
We had to use T modem this phone seems different they all seem to work on my T model.

I'm on Vodafone and I have a Galaxy S3 i9300T and I've flashed the European (UK) stock firmware (for the i9300) and there was no difference in performance and it worked to the same degree as before. The only slight hitch I faced was that it didn't set the time right as the time zone was set to the UK time zone. But that can be fixed easily by going into the Date & Time settings. There is no difference in hardware between the i9300 and the i9300T. The modems are different, but there's a post floating around here somewhere where you can flash different modems/radios, including the one which comes with the i9300T. See the link attached:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061
Also, when you flash a ROM on, it doesn't change the modem/radio firmware, you have to flash that separately.
So in conclusion, there is no danger to the phone in flashing an i9300 firmware.
And it's best if you root your phone using CFRoot as it installs ClockWorkMod Recovery.

Ok so I just got a brand new Galaxy s2 FREE from Vodafone AU... well not exactly, after crap reception and a $500 bill direct debited from my account for excess data I never used, they gave it to me outright. Bribe 3 months before my contract expires I guess.
Firstly I'm NOT a NOOB been flashing for 18months on my old SGS1 and do know a bit.
-So I started with a stock GTi9100T phone...
NOTE: After much google action I discovered that the GTi9100T is IDENTICAL to the standard SGS2 as far as I can tell except that is has a lower SAR output. Unlike the i9100G there are NO T-specific hardware or firmware differences (except possibly the modem or trivial rom settings) and no separate sources either.
-Then I flashed a CF-rooted stock kernel (KF2 i think) matching the stock firmware via Odin.
-Next I downloaded Foxhound Batista 0.2 ICS XXLPH based rom and flashed via CWM recovery. I came in two parts and I must have missed the correct seequence because the rom bootlooped.
I decided to format every partition except sdcard and flash CF-root kernel via Odin again.
-This time Foxhound flashed sucessfully.
-Now I did forget to backup my IMEI (facepalm) easy to do when you have a FREE SGS2 in your hands. IMEI survived fine but the Serial number in setting> phone is "Unkown"
-Now my questions are:
-Does the serial number listed as unknown cause any phone-identity problems like a missing/corrupt IMEI?
-Can I fix this with .md5 backups in my EFS folder or any other way easily?
-Is it caused by still having GB bootloaders running ICS?
-will a sammy stock firmware flash (3-file low-level + pit/repartion) fix it like IMEI issues?
-Is is something to do with having GTi9100 rom running on a GTi9100T device?
Thanks in advance peoples, happy to join your area of XDA
Edit: So I finally found a discussion touching on this in the CM9 thread but it reveals very little:

Serial problem ???

You need new ics boot loader, ics stock ROM to fix that serial....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I've never used a custom rom that does show the serial number in settings, and I only used stock for a week when I first got my phone & don't remember if it showed up using stock.
Either way, it's irrelevant. What possible issue could arise whether settings/about phone showed your serial number or not ? As long as your IMEI is good/not showing the generic '0044' one, it's all good.
People getting in a tizz about nothing on here as per usual.
Custom kernels than might lose it again
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
It's the new ICS feature, it shows serial in about phone, and yes it does nothing, but it sure bug when you see unknown.... So update to latest stock and it will be fixed. Easy. As I said, custom kernels again can make it unknown.

I am running ARHD 7.0 with no issues at all, however I did flash the latest radio posted in the international forum, this was prior to learning that there is really no reason to at this point. Attempted to roll back to the backup of the original radio.img that I captured prior to upgrading (just for comparison purposes), however my build number still shows 1.29.401.12. My question is, is the build number derived from the ROM and the baseband version derived from the radio.img?
Correct.
got it, thanks. that explains why my baseband is not changing, its the same radio lol
Have any of you had any issues regarding flashing a rom? I have been reading some of the rom threads and it seems some have issues with Aroma or the rom's flash, however, then they cannot get their phones to boot. I want to flash one but I do not want to have any of those issues, as I already had a problem with recovery.
I sometimes have trouble with aroma with my HTC DNA, which is similar to the One. With me it sometimes freezes if I don't hold the device straight. Why... I have no idea. However, when this does happen I return to recovery via the pwr+vol and redo the process. It doesn't hurt anything for me just takes a bit longer. I've ordered the one and I'm definitely planning on flashing all types of stuff when out gets here Wednesday God willing. Just be sure to backup. That's saved me countless times.

Wait, when you select wipe data in order to flash arhd, doesn't it wipes firmware too?
I mean when you flash arhd that has latest firmware, your baseband still says 1.26 instead of 1.29?
How is that? Confused
So we can flash all the roms and kernels in there thread ?

Hello, a few days ago i rooted my galaxy s2. I installed the multiwindow mods which turned out to be for a deodexed xxlsj(im dunning jelly bean xxls8) rom. After i installed it, a message android is upgrading showed up. Now every time i turn on/reboot my phone it shows anroid is upgrading and when i access the battery in the setting the phone freezes and reboots it sometimes gets stuck on the samsung galaxy sii boot screen so i have to restore the software for it to boot again.
Also i was thinking of installing neat rom, i have read that i should back up everything before i install a rom but it is in .zip so if a installed it through recovery would all my data be erased.

Oh, right, we don't even know what model you've got.
If it's an I9100, flash siyah v6 if you're on JB, siyah v5 if you're on ICS.
Flash a custom ROM via CWM.
That, pretty much, sums it all.

By flashing a new ROM or by wipping cache and dalvik (not on 4.0.4 of course).
You can get it to boot right?

I've tried wiping dalvik cache and wiping the cache partition before but the ''android is upgrading screen'' is still present upon booting. So is my only hope installing a rom but what i'm afraid of i wouldn't receive the new 4.2.2 jelly bean update that may be released.
Don't worry about that, you can flash your country/region after you get back on your feet.

Problem solved
I just got an SII used that came with CM 10.1, I would like to return it back to complete stock to see what the vanilla experience is like.
I'm coming from a MT4G and I avidly flashed roms/kernels and rooted it myself.
So, What exactly do I need to get this back to stock and able to receive OTA T-Mobile updates to get ready for the Jellybean update coming through soon?
Thanks!
I'd be tempted to wait until you have confirmation that JB has been released for your device.....once you have that confirmation, you can directly flash it to your phone with odin rather than wait for an OTA update. The reason being.....
You don't want to go anywhere near 4.0.4 (search emmc brickbug for the why). I'm sure you can flash 4.0.3 and return the phone to stock that way, but then you have the danger that your carrier will OTA you to 4.0.4 if you return to stock before JB is released....and as I mentioned before....you don't want to go there.....
Sent from my rooted, de bloated, stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and XDA developers app
Good advice indeed. Reading about that right now. They say November for JB, so that's not too far away. I could just chill with CM or something else in the meantime.
What would you recommend aside from CM for a jellybean rom on this phone as well as a kernel? Or just stay with CM?
What's the deal with this saying it's already out? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226886 http://android.sc/update-samsung-galaxy-s2-to-official-jelly-bean-4-1-2-xwlsj-os/
T-Mobile even says: Beginning April 8, the Samsung Galaxy S II will have an optional software update to Android version 4.1.2/ Software T989UVMC6 via Samsung Kies only. This update changes the OS to Jelly Bean.
I'm assumung you have the international version of the I9100? That being the case....Official JB IS available.....it's what I'm using. ....

I really have no idea, I didn't get it yet
It should be a T-mobile branded North American version. Not sure yet.
So basically even with CM on it already, I can just hook it up and use Kies to flash it to the T-mobile update with no other issues?
No....you have a custom rom installed....kies won't recognise the phone.....
You say it's a north American t mobile unit? It's likely to be this....

Yes... you can flash firmware from the same model.
T-Mobile and AT&T should be using the same firmware (T878USQU1BUAC).
Your SIM card and device CSC determines what carrier specific apps and features to load.

ATK1 is an older version. Just make sure whatever version you flash is for the same model number. T878U.

You're welcome.
The rule applies to all Samsung firmware.
Flash CSC_OMC to do a clean install.
Flash Home_CSC to keep your stuff.
That did not work I downloaded the firmware and flashed it and now it just goes to recovery mode and won't even boot up anymore figures this would happen, just the way this year has been going, you have a place I could download a good firmware to just completely nuke it and go back to stock? It was stock before I mean I just tried to put the T-Mobile Version on.
From this site, https://galaxyfirmware.com/model/SM-T878U and I used this build number T878USQU1BUAC
Edit: Edit it did end up finally booting up after doing the app repair function in the recovery and also a factory data reset but still says AT&T only thing that has changed is I now have android 11 lol
I just want to get all the att stuff out so I can use the t-mobile texting and whatnot I can't use that now because of the att junk.

Looks like you'll have to manually change you CSC.
This post has some advice on how to get this done.
SM-T978U Odin Firmware Flash
Purchased a sim unlocked SM-T978U (Verizon Tab S7+ 5G) and am trying to flash the unlocked or Tmobile stock firmware to it. I've gotten "passed" flashes everything when flashing all of the files from the corresponding stock firmwares, but...
forum.xda-developers.com
Also make sure you are using a patched version of Odin when flashing packages... I assumed you know that, but in case not, here is a link to download it... https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903995077
From all the digging I did. It is not possible as you have to unlock the bootloader to change the CSC. And well I spent over 3 days on this crap to no avail. I just sold my ATT model and bought the tmobile version. So ridiculous that Samsung does not just sell an unlocked version to avoid this hassle. Very annoying.
