Hey!
I have been disconnected for a month...
Still there isn't fix for the problem with wifi using WPA2 on Xperia's after upgrade to ICS? I've tried to change algorithm to only AES or only TKIP, and when I do it, it works for a while, but later it starts the connecting/disconnecting bucle.
i have poor peformance on wpa 2 but when using no security my wifi works great. FXP 128 CM9

As you can read on the topic title, I talk about WPA2. With no security or WEP (don't know about WPA) it works perfect, but obviously have a router without security or WEP nowadays is dumb.

im talking about wpa 2 too.. using it at home. When using train i can use public free wifi. but this works waaay better than wpa 2 which is unstable
Hi, I'm on ICS (official) and didn't see any performance issue with WPA2 between ICS & GB.
I use my phone @ home & work. Both routers are using WPA2, AES only and there is no problem at all.

I had issues with my wifi too after switching to ICS (any Rom!).
Disabling Encryption (WEP / WPA didnt matter) helped a bit,
but there were still wifi dropouts.
But meanwhile i know what the Problem was!
ICS doesn´t like my old Router (Alice DSL Router)...
no idea why, GB worked, ICS not
Now i switched to another Router (Fritzbox 7240).
All Wifi Problems gone
i have speedport w503v (t-home router, they give it for free to use their services), any form of wpa2 is rejected when using ICS, no probs at all in GB.
i switched to wpa (tkip) and have no prob at all now.
so for users that have probs with wifi on ICS and dont want to leave ur wifi unprotected u have 2 solutions:
1: buy new router (be sure its tested and works with our phones on ICS)
2. switch wifi protection to WPA (TKIP) or (AES)--aes not tested by me-- it hope it works
3. stay in GB 2.3
no progress wifi related.
I have two routers too. In a TP-Link it works and in the one provided by ISP (Observa Telecom) it doesn't (neither WPA2 nor WPA).
Prolly you are wondering why I don't use the TP-Link (W8961ND) then? Because it is a ****ing ****!!! It has bad perfomance and doesn't even show basic information like connected clients...
similar case :
Mt15i ICS + router wpa/2:
router hitron: works ok
router conceptronic: continuously authenticating
Gingerbread: both routers working ok
The problem is ICS, or SONY ICS.

Anyways, I have MoDaCo 3.2 Beta 5, and my wifi will not work! It didn't work in 3.1 either.
What can I do to fix this? Is it a common problem for Heros?
I just want my WiFi! Tired of always using EDGE at home!
Thanks~!

Silly me, I forgot to mention I am not a dumbass!
Still having wifi problems. It works on the wifi at my moms house, so perhaps its a router issue? I use WPA2 on both of them.

Since you now mention it works elsewhere, yes it is a router issue!
Some devices (and the Hero especially) don't play nicely with certain routers. You can try making a few changes to the settings (channel, encryption etc) as this may help.

Dave
try turning on broadcast SSID on your router. I always have that problem when my ssid is hidden.
Hello wondering if anyone can help.
Bought the device yesterday, galaxy player 5.0
The only way I can connect to the wifi is if I disable WEP and have the router open.
When I use WIFI, either from the cell phone or my home WIFI using WEP, the device is stuck in obtaining IP address, as soon as I remove the WEP and have the router open, it connects.
None of my other devices have this issue, only this one.
Any ideas?
or
Should I return it?
Thanks.
I found that if my router was broadcasting its SSID my 5 would connect, if it was hiding the SSID it would not (just sat there searching for IP). Maybe that's the problem?
Mine has problem too on my belkin54g (open config), connect and disconnection all the time pretty annoying, i really hope there will come a fix out from samsung since it came with 2.3.5 update....
Thanks!!!
Thanks guys got it working.
Changed password on the router and did a reset to it.
Seems that did the trick.
Almost returned the player.
And the worst is that I had already installed a shield for the screen, 15 bucks!!!
Anyway, thanks for the response!!!
Hidden SSID need patch for YP-G70
Just install HiddenSSID Enabler from market, it'll work for YP-G70. You need run it once and get your hidden wifi connected, then can uninstall it. Looks like it is just a patch but really works.
I was under the impression you could use a hidden SSID under stock 2.3.5. Under Wifi Settings, there is the "Add Wi-Fi network" option, and it looks like it can be used for hidden SSIDs.

No, it won't work coz hidden SSID not supported by GB.

Try using WPA instead of WEP. WEP is ancient, and some newer wifi chipsets don't interoperate well with it because it's so old and it's been HIGHLY recommended to ditch it on routers for at least 5 years. WEP was known to be insecure almost a decade ago!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like I remember reading a few years ago that hidden ssid's were not part of the 802.11 b,g, or n specifications. I thought that while a lot of devices had that function, it wasn't exactly "compliant".

Yes, that's true. I haven't seen any android smartphone on GB (don't know what's in ICS) can connect hidden SSID unless apply the hidden SSID Enabler patch. However, iphone / ipod has no problem.

wifi disconnect/reconnect fixed
On my 4.0 US, the wifi would disconnect and reconnect constantly. To fix it, go to ur network (on windows go to start and click network or type in ur IP address) and go to LAN settings. Change the dhcp lease time to 2 weeks or anything bit forever. It resolved my issue completely
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I have something to ask.
Currently I am having an Xperia Ray. Rooted. Boot loader unlocked. Running Ray Onium v7 GB with Aire Kernel v7. Everything runs perfectly without a glitch.
However when I update to ICS, both stock ROM or Cook ROM (Ray Onium v6 ICS, JJ ROM 2.5 and team Kang ROM), I find that my wifi is not useable.
I'm sitting about 1m away from the router, the signal is excellent but I can't browse the internet or go to the market.
I have tried both with 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. However when I connect to an open network, everything is fine. I'm using WPA2 encryption for my Linksys 54g router.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
What kernel did u use
Sent from my Xperia ray using xda premium
I'm using XRay 6.2.5, it doesn't work. I also try Aire, Official Kernel, but my ray still cant access the internet. However when using GB, everything's fine.

Try to update from SEUS

I have the same ussue in neo v. Conects fine and fast but there is no internet. All ok on GB but any ics is making that prob. Tried every single rom out there with all kernels and wifi modules

I've tried with SEUS, no luck.
The point here is that it gets connected very fast, however there is no internet. On GB everything is perfect.
I have the same issue, everything perfectly on GB.

I've been having similar problems with my wifi since updating to ICS. My problems are a little different though. WPA2 network here, the phone can see the network fine and it connects quickly, I can browse and stuff just fine, but every so often the network just /disconnects/. Usually it'll reconnect a few seconds later, but sometimes I have to open the wifi settings screen before it'll reconnect, and sometimes it doesn't reconnect at all. When it doesn't reconnect at all, the settings screen says my network is either out of range (it picks it up the moment I hit Scan) or had an "authentication problem", and I have to manually connect to the network.
Kinda weird and very frustrating, because sometimes I'm connected for hours without a problem, and sometimes I'm getting disconnected every few minutes.
When SE released their alpha and beta ICS roms, the wifi either didn't see my home network, or it saw my home network but couldn't connect, instead just infinitely cycling through "Connecting, Disconnected, Not In Range, Connecting"
Same problem happens regardless of what kernel or ROM I use, it happens in CM9, AOKP and every other ICS ROM I've tried. :/
A similar problem it seems...
When I want to download an app via Google Play simply it doesn't start. I touch back button and try to download it again and voila! The same fast wireless..
But it simply does not start at first try. Not only Google Play downloads but also all other internet using applications do that strange behaviour.

I have two Rays at home... one on GB and one on ICS.... the ICS one has the same problems, I think switching your wifi router to WEP seems to help and so is changing to B from N.. but then you lose higher speeds and security... but that does seem to help. On the other hand the GB ray has no problems whatsoever....
Hope this helps someone figure out a solution

Your welcome. I just also flashed official Nordic 4.0.4 from here... And my router has something called " protected mode", that is says helps for that- if WiFi signals are too many around. Try installing WiFi analytics from google play... It's free-
use a free WiFi channel.
Turn on such protected mode if you can
I also activated something called "intellistream" that prioritizes streaming in WiFi.
So far, it's going well. This way I kept the 801n and WPA security.
Before this, I was sitting 7-8 steps away from the router and kept dropping connections.
Hope it helps.... No expert here.... Joined the forum for the same reason...
tomorrow after work ill test as much scenarios as possible. it cant be router related since i have the same issue with 7 different routers. 0 problems with GB, always the same issue on ICS.
connected solid and sound, no dropping in signal, but no internet flow whatsoever.. this is the only thing that keeps me on GB -.-
Any progress?
Yeah same problem with me.
There's something wrong with ICS Rom, that needs to be fixed
Replace file
Unzip and copy this file in /system/bin (replace with original). This should fix the wifi connection. You will need root for this.
So far, so good

Hey there....
It's been working fine for me now with the above changes and the 4.0.4 Nordic ftf that I flashed from here.... the 4.0.3 does seem to have WiFi problems, but not the 4.0.4.
Hope it helps....
Hi everybody,
I'm having problems with my Tablet S when connecting to an OpenWRT wireless router (D-Link DIR-825). Half of all pings are getting lost (it's working for 10 seconds then for 10 seconds no pings are getting answered).
When using browser, i often have to reload page, because it is not allways loading at the first time.
Now I tried to temporarily connect my old Fritz!Box wireless router (on the same network). This is running flawlessly
So my question: Is somebody else running his/her Tablet with an OpenWRT device (with or without problems)? Any suggestions what could be going wrong here?
It's not openwrt, but I'm using a linksys wrt54g with ddwrt (v24-sp2 micro) and only having disconnect issues when large playing videos trought SMB sharing. Everything else is working fine. It's seems to have issues with high loads.
In others routers I didn't get this problem.
I'm also using DD-WRT and no problems at all, even with ICS , if anything I have slightly better reception now
I'm not running OpenWRT, but my custom *nix router is working flawlessly.
Check that you don't have any QoS rules or weird firewall rules set and see if that fixes your problems.
Hey guys I've recently checked that there's a new version 15 of openwrt........so I want some things to be cleared..
1.) Is there any size increment with this version..
2.) Will it be updated over Stone age version(3.8)
Lol...
My router is iBall-baton iB WRA 150 N adsl2+ single band router (best most selling and 30$)...
Ok it is nothing but a clone/rebranded version of TP-Link TP-WR741 and some guy at wrt forums posted mod file but the user is inactive and his links too..... i just wanna know if i am good to go... im over stock firmware.......and main concern is that WILL THAT ROUTER HAVE ENOUGH INTERNAL MEMORY TO FACE AND STORE LATEST WRT VERSION 15.**** ......IM Impatient to try out but is covered with dark cloud of fear of bricking......and if i did such thing, dad will kick me out of the house...seriously..thats why consultancy was the best option i was with....im on stock firmware version 3.0.0 and thats barely 2mb....and the version on site and the factory default version is same.... I'm not sure that is it full or a patch.. but i hope you can answer this question..

Same problem whit Android devices in wifi. I tried Gargoyle, LEDE, Open WRT and DD-WRT
I have TP-Link Archer C7
Any solution?
Hello Enzo, I don't have that router anymore. With new routers the wi-fi problems have gone away...
i have since tired of not being able to use the major redeeming feature of this phone , which is the quality camera, so i decided to use a stock based ROM, hence FERALAB 20.
I really am not sure this a a fault of the ROM, given that i have noticed it on another previous ROM, but the thing is i cannot detect the WIFI signal from my WIMAX router using this ROM.
wifi works fine, and it does detect my neighbours WIFI networks, but i cannot seem to fathom why it does not detect mine.
like i said, i did notice this on another rom iv tried in the past, but when i changed to FXP 7.2 it worked just fine and detects my wifi network.
I would like to use a stock based ROM so im wondering if their is something i can do to help the situation.
precisely why does this ROM not see thuis particular WIFI signal, but does see others when the same phone running FXP does?
pls note that other devices, phones, laptops do connect to this router without any problem.
and i have noticed also that when i go into wifi settings on my phone, for hotspot settings it has just the options for WPA and Open modes, and no WEP option!
does that mean that the ROM cannot handle WEP connections? FXP works just fine
WEP hotspot is not available because it is a weak security. iPhone hotspots are WEP. android is always a step ahead of iPhone. So, android uses WPA hotspot. even a noob like me can crack a WEP password in 6 hours max if u wanna learn more, google for a software called aircrack. WPA is very very hard to hack. So, basically be happy that android is unhackable and iPhone is hackable.
---------------
if u are using WEP, i recommend changing to WPA or u will never know if your neighbour is stealing ur wifi. this should solve ur prob. and android cannot create WEP hotspot, but can join. i have no idea y u cant join WEP
