A little more information would have been nice..

No offense, but if you don't know what a custom kernel is, you probably have no business overclocking anyways.
Read up a bit on it first, then head over to the dev section and try out the advanced kernel ( KA kernel provides overclocking).
Good luck and overclock responsibly.

fresh outta oven... be warned as it is fresh out.. though chances are very less but still there may be bugs.. so unless you know your way around.. may be good to wait for couple of days till more ppl use it and reports bugs if any and they are fixed or it is confirmed stable..

Anyone wanna spare me sometime and suggest a ROM and Kernal.?

Hey guys. I am kinda overwhelmed by the number of ROMs and kernals around. I saw modems too but dunno what they are. Heres my info:
Baseband:I9100DDKE4
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555 [email protected] #2
Hope thats alls needed. I wanna try our MIUI. But I saw stuff like bluetooth isnt working there. I dont wanna lose any functionality. Is CyanogenMod my best bet? Are there any other good stable mods I should check out? And whats a good Kernal? Which wont affect battery performance.
Thanks for your time if you reply.

or check the link i will give you and il be honest you be better off going there to start off with custom roms..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850
read throughout the first page and then go to the last page as well of the thread cause they just updated the rom and scripts..so you will enjoy using that rom i know i did since i beta tested it..
and battery life with the right settings you can get 2 days out of it..give it a try your not losing anything..
and regarding cyanogen id wait till they make it more stable

1. Modems are the drivers for the mobile connections if you flash a newer one it can improve your network speed but it really depends were you live etc so it different for every person.
2. If you're a beginner with flashing I wouldn't start with any AOSP ROMs like Cyanogen or MIUI.
3. I would recommend Villain ROM for the beginning. It's clean and basic and it comes with Nimphetamine Kernel. Also the guys there are really nice and like to help if you have some problems.
Hello there OP!
If you want a completely different Android experience, go for the CyanogenMod 7.1 release candidate. Bluetooth and other important stuffs are working, read the thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297557
If you want a very stable ROM with bloatware removed, I recommend you Cognition 1.5.1. The developer only uses official firmware releases, not leaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Though before you do all these you do need to have your phone rooted first!

i know mate i been there so i know how it feels wanting to ask these questions...but you have some ideas from myself and other people as well so do your reading and choose the one you want..to be honest if i was you id flash a few before deciding which one to stay with..each thread of the roms that i have used everyone is friendly and everyone is helpful so you should be fine...anything you ever need hit me a message and i see if i can help ya
Thanks you everyone. I was just being lazy. Chose Lite'ning Rom and SiyahKernal2.0. Both should play well right? Will I need to recong. all apps?
Loads of roms available but I'd recommend a rom based of 2.3.5 improvements are better than earlier releases.
Then you can choose from the various kernels and modems to customise.
Once you get the hang of flashing and such you can try out others like cm7, which itself works pretty good now and offers a complete aosp experience.
Touchwiz roms are polished though and work very well. By going to CM7 and such you will lose some stock functionalities such as the good camera app, better stock email, and other bits and bobs.

i think LeoMar75 Revolution Rom v2.7.1 and SpeedMod t41 kernel is the best choice.
battery friendly and really fast!!
no lag in SPB Shell 3D launcher and other apps. also revolution rom is really customised!
(my english is not good as i come from Hong Kong)
GingerMod 0.6. Based on 2.3.5.
Fast. Using Siyah kernel with it. Amazing battery life, amazing benchmark scores.

what is the kernel for?and what does Stock Kernel Addon mean??

OK you want to flash wolfs rom, or are you already on it?
I take it you have not unlocked your bootloader yet.
Anyway the kernal is like the BIOS from a windows machine, its the main bit of the OS and with custom kernals you can change many things to mod the phone.
The main advantage is to overclock and underclock the cpu so it works faster when you want it to and slower when you dont want it.
This can improve performance and save battery.
Also you can undervolt, this means the phone uses less power from the battery saving battery power but can cause instability if the voltages are to low for your phone.
there are lots more things as well
such as uncapping the fps which makes graphics smoother..etc..
the stock add does not overclock etc but has the other tweaks....
its up to you which kernal to use but I recommend you read up, try various ones and choose which is best for you.
The most versatile ones are for unlocked bootloader....let me know if you need any help doing that

First thing then is we will keep it simple,
Download flashtool from the flashtool thread in the dev section.
Root your phone by running flashtool and following the instructions.
Then I suggest you pick wolfs FS rom and flash that.
Get used to walking before running
Any probs then send me a PM

Here is the download modules for fix WIFI, backlight, etc because of in compatible module version

I recommend to test the kernel for 1 day, after you satisfied, backup current module in /system/lib/modules, and flash the new modules using CWM.
Post any problem/screenshoot here..

i'm already prepare the next version, going to test it for 1 week,,, really cool...

Nice to see Indonesian developer on XDA.
Why dont you just post the thread under Development subforum since many would see your work there. There are not many developments going on for Xperia S, it would be really nice to see one more developer as it may encourage other developers to come and show their skills.

Hi, I don't plan to put any development in XDA, I just want to share my current work, especially for local forum.. just posting here, incase someone want to test it..
Hi, does this kernel come with autorooting feature and CWM recovery?
Would be very useful if you could add into next version becos I really like your kernel. But since there's no root, I use advanced ics kernel for the time being.

No the point of putting this in development is that a lot more people could download, test and report feedback on your work this seems like a decent kernel aswell, it'd be worth seeing what other devs have to say about it

thanks but i just want to keep it in general section..., because i'm not developing in xda, i think, it is not nice to put something in development section while you can't find something that "developed" in those area. i mean, for me, i just patch, fix some little error, nothing else, i haven't actually "develope" kernel(making new feature), i just backport some high kernel version into this kernel, and i don't think that count as "develope"

The newer kernel version has much better battery life compared to 3.0.8, I can confirm that your kernel's root did not execute properly on ICS, 6.1.A.1.58
Tested out apps that require root like titanium backup and adaway, all returned messages saying no root access.
So, I temporarily use the advanced stock ics kernel.

It took me 10 days to get bored with the original ROM

1. best performance is subjective but many people have had better luck with custom ROMs because they contain much less bloatwares compared to the stock firmware.
2. You only need to flash a custom kernel to optimize battery drain. You don't need to flash a custom ROM for that.
Although, you have to note that, all custom ROMs are bundled with custom kernels.
3. When it comes to enjoying cool themes, then custom ROM is the way.
You will even enjoy much better and probably endless theme options on AOSP ROMs.

2. that's the main benefit of android aside from other things, there are custom stuffs for almost anything
3. because i cook custom roms too for my local friends since symbian days and now Android, so there is no way i can just stick with the stock firmware.

That'll be called stealing. because he made them mods on his own and you're stealing the mod and sticking it into the stock kernel which then essentially becomes siyah kernel again. Except it won't have the other goodies in it. Also you need his permission.
Another thing is you can switch of the siyah logo in stweaks. I do know how to make and write to kernels but this i cannot do. Plus i am an impatient man and don't like building kernels because it takes a lot of time and effort. So hats off to all kernel devs.
Basic answer from me is NO!
However i could be wrong..
