LFB & file transfer on a MAC - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has LFB broken file transfer on MACs? I've tried MTP and PTP using Android file transfer but no luck.
Used to work fine on LF2 with the Android file transfer app.
Anyone else care to try it for me please?

Thanks for trying, can u tell me a bit more about your OS and how you are connecting to the device? using Android file transfer?
I know another user had complained about the same thing...

MacBook pro running OSX lion, fresh install of android file transfer used mtp to transfer file to and from phone.:good:

Unfortunately I don't know a solution but I can definitely say you're not the only one with problem, people were reporting the same on another forum I visit.

Same here

Nothing at all. Macbook Pro 13" Lion 10.7.4. Android file transfer just sits at No Android Device Found.

Have any of you got kies installed? because ive just flashed back to LF6 and then back to LFB and MTP is working fine still.

Use AirDroid & transfer via web browser. Or use a FTP program & transfer via File Expert.

Had the same problem, but after I flashed francos kernel it works..

Wonder if Sammy changed something in this release. Really weird.

Yeah im running cm9, anyone out there not running stock that has an issue?

*Proof that Sammy has changed something in the kernel in LFB*
Flashed the LF2 kernel to determine if the kernel was the issue, and it was! With LF2 kernel and LFB ROM, everything is working perfectly fine again! PTP transfer using Android file transfer working great AND iSyncr Mac application that also uses PTP is also working fine. Wonder why Sammy has touched this.
Only worry is hope that using a older kernel with the newer ROM doesnt spring up any other issues?

Using MTP has never worked for me on the S2 or the S3 on Mac OS X 10.7.
Pre-LFB I got Android File Transfer to work by switching to the phone connection mode from MTP to PTP, but this doesn't work in LFB. Instead Image Capture automatically runs up when doing so (it recognises an S3 is connected, but shows no pictures to import).
I guess they changed/'fixed' something to do with PTP so the workaround doesn't work anymore.

My phone came with ALF2, MTP obviously never worked with Android File Transfer but if you switched to PTP it would work fine. I agree that they possibly have 'fixed' PTP and that is why us mac users are out of luck.
Been investigating but I need to find the time to look into it properly.
If anyone manages to find a working solution with LFB. Please post it

How to copy files from PC to S3?

I´m new to this Mtp thing. I had a HOX until now and that was a breeze there.
So how is everybody copying files (non-media files) to sd-card pr ext-sd-card?
thx, nearly
Bro I just plugged my phone into my PC and my PC download the drivers needed.. recognized phone and bam. Go into computer and find your device. If you double click on it it should bring up your SD card.. From there I just drag and drop files.

Just like a USB stick. I connect to PC and it pops up. Maybe because I.have development option ticked but don't think it's that. Just download the latest version of kies for the drivers.

Really sucks...
Can't use the phone while transferring large files
What about connecting the phone to a PS3, does that work?
i cant remember the last time i connected a phone to a computer for file transfers.
get samba share from the market or use es file explorer to transfer files to network shares on the pc.
LOL WIRES.
MTP/Kies really suck. My main pc is running Linux so that's a no-go with MTP. I installed Kies on my work pc as it runs Win 7. All SGS 3 drivers are installed as well. For the first few days it was working but now the phone isn't recognised anymore. Either the phone does not show at all on the pc, or it shows but the internal and external SD cards are not showing.
Saw on Samsung's website that there's a Kies version for Mac available so I installed that on my wife's macbook pro. When plugging the phone in the "connecting" message keeps running but the phone never connects. I thought it was because I'm not using the original USB cable, but using that won't work either.
So looking forward to a custom rom that has USB mass storage included. Until then I'm using the WiFi File Transfer Pro and/or Samba Sharing apps.
You can also install Kies Air from the play store on your phone. You won't have to install anything on your PC.
Just make sure you are on the same network as your PC and run the app.
It will start a server and the URL will be displayed on your device.
Enter this URL in your browser on the PC and you are ready to go

You're better off using airdroid if it's just a couple of files

How can I copy file to /data directory?
I use Cyberduck on my Mac to connect to the SGS III by SSH, I have an app called SSHDroidPro on my phone. So easy to use. I can browse the entire filesystem of the phone wirelessly and file transfer is pretty fast and totally painless. MUCH better than Kies Air IMO.

Android File Transfer problem with OSX Mountain Lion

I use a Mac with Mountain Lion on it and the photo PTP works and opens iPhoto. But MTP still doesnt work. I can verify that MTP & PTP works on my sons Mac with Lion and it works on the Windows Partition of my Mac. So it must be an Android File Transfer problem with Mountain Lion. I hope Google updates it soon, Android File Transfer has been a total pain in the ass from the word GO. Is anyone else having this problem?
Edit: MTP Mounts with my Galaxy Nexus Running CM10 on Mouintan Lion. The issue must be specific to CM10 on the Galaxy SIII

Until this morning's update MTP was not working - At least for the T-Mo version. I'm assuming if you haven't updated yet, that doing so will fix your issue.
Android File Transfer works fine on my Mac. I dont think Mac supports MTP does it? The only way mine connects is in PTP

I don't really know if this can help you, but i'll say it anyway..
My dad has an external storage from samsung, with 500 GB, and he can't use it on mac and windows at the same time.. There is a special formatting to use it especially on mac.. and if he formats the storage for mac, he can't use it on windows anymore, only if he formats it back to general settings..
Try to format you sdcard into one that macs recognize and allow transfs ^-^
Thanks I will try 2format an old SD card and c if it works. Bit odd tho as I can use my old nexus one with the s3 SD card in and it connects fine

If you have installed samsung KIES uninstall it by:
opening the kies DMG file you downloaded... inside you would have an Uninstall.app ...
android file transfer app. should work fine after this.
...or use a workaround ala samba file server.

Same probe here on Mac OS X Mavericks. It was working fine on 4.2.2 and Mac OS X Lion.

adb is still working fine over USB.
It doesn't seem to be an issue with 4.3 either. I also tested it with a Galaxy Note 3 and that's working just fine.

Same Problem here, also running Mavericks. Never checked Mavericks w/ 4.2.2. Adb works just fine.

I just realised I cannot access file on 4.3 from Mavericks through Android File Transfer anymore, it was all fine with 4.2.2 on Mountain Lion... Yes, adb works fine. And on Windows it's fine.

Mac unable to see M9 as a Hard Drive

It had it ask me what to do with the USB connection when I plugged it in, which I don't mind. I choose File Transfer. My Mac isn't recognizing it as a hard drive, like it did. Gonna have to figure this one out... Any ideas? (I never use HTC Sync...)
Update: I did the online chat with HTC and tried almost everything from clearing the Cache partition to reinstalling Sync Manager for the drivers. Still not working. Funny enough it is working on my Windows 10 laptop....

Are you using the android file transfer app on your mac?
My experience is that it will only mount the extsd as a drive...internal sd needs that app, who knows why

Up until I updated to Marshmallow, I've been able to plug into my Mac and use both internal and SD card as hard drives. I've never used HTC Sync.... It still works like normal on my Windows 10 laptop.

You got lucky that it worked as a drive before, but according to google this is the standard way to transfer via mac:
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
"To transfer files, Android File Transfer must be installed on your computer"

I used the program, and yes it worked. I really don't think I was "lucky " before. Its worked from the second I got my Mac a year ago. Even HTC and Apple thinks it should recognize it. I think it might be a bug with this version of M. I'm betting they fix it.

Honestly, I'm not even sure if I have a twrp installed. I can see both on my Windows 10 machine... I can see it on the Mac using Android File Transfer. I could plug directly into the Mac before the M update and could see both as HD's...and of course drag and drop files.
I assumed you were rooted. If you aren't, you wouldn't have twrp.
But I believe if you put the phone in download mode, you should be able to sideload files.
