3G while on phone. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Has anyone else noticed you can use 3G while on the phone? How is this possible since sprint is a CDMA company?

Yeah, feature of the phone. 3 or 4 threads about it already.
But its called SVDO (Simultaneous Voice and Data Operation). Verizon has a few phones that can do it as well, Thunderbolt being one of them.

Very cool! Thanks!

This depends on coverage and location. Your phone has to be in a densely populated/well covered area for this to properly work. If you're in a roaming or remote location, it works like with the older phones - only voice or data at one time.

works for me also.. when i got my lte on launch day.. my boy at sprint told me and i was like yea rite!! then i checked it out and it worked!! gooDS**t!

I would suggest buying a GSM Evo 3D and getting a GSM carrier like T-Mobile, AT&T, or Simple Mobile. Good thing all of the main networks here in Russia are GSM, I don't like the CDMA system.

No I didn't provide any proof like water bills or anything I just told them I moved over the phone and yes I was able to keep both of my phone numbers

What about the phones? Is the ESN still clean or do you have to turn them in?
well they must have changed procedure cause i tried to do this and they asked for proof

It depends on the agent you get; whenever I do any shananigans I usually call the spanish line since they're based in Mexico, have full power over the acct, and are less likely to question your shiz.
And, yeah, the ESN will be clean if you do such a procedure.
Yeah maybe I got lucky who knows !

How's the Galaxy Nexus treating you, btw? I'm in the process of perhaps leaving Sprint and it's my first choice but I've heard lots of issues are afoot w/ the Verizon version.
Your thoughts?

Simultaneous call & 3G FINALLY

Wow simultaneous 3G data & calls actually work at the same time. I read rumors of this but heard towers needed upgrading for it to work. Didn't think it was actually gonna work but it works perfect also getting much better 3G speed.
Is this in all areas or just certain ones? I wasn't sure if the towers actually needed upgrades or it was phone limitation.
works excellent for me from Norwalk, CA all the way through Rancho Cucamonga.
Mine doesn't. Is there a setting or something?

I don't think there is a setting, that's why I posted I wanted to see if it was area specific or not. I just remember reading a rumor about it a while ago but thought it said it would depend on the towers. I'm in Minneapolis area.

1.9Ghz and more? Anyone know about this?

So I'm on the phone talking to this sprint rep cause I was having terrible data with perfect signal strength, he said to try and turn on 1.9Ghz 3g and that was all he would say, any more and it would be like rooting the phone and that got me curious as hell, what really are our phone's capability??? And anyone found this setting yet? He said it was somewhere by debugging but I can't find it...

If you wonder what those service techs are thinking it's just gonna cause headaches. For the record I'm a CDMA switch tech and half my co–workers are as much in La La land as the service reps/techs.

I remebered an old trick from when the evo first came out where it was for some strange reason running in a gsm/cdma hybrid mode, or so the diag screen says, and if you change it to cdma only the data speeds were improved. I'm no network engineer so i'm not sure how that works, but for our phones if you click on mobile network itself in settings, the network config menu shows the radio mode as LTE/CDMA as default. I was having horrible speeds, maybe topped out at 200kbps on multiple tests, switched it to CDMA only, and was getting the same speeds as my OG evo, still a paltry 600-800kbps, but that is at my home where the 3g speeds have always been like this. Give that a try, and note that the setting doesn't stick if you reboot.

where do u turn LTE on???

i know that there is kno LTE near me yet but when i go through my phone i cant find where i would turn it on??? i thought it would have like a botton like when u turn 4g on.. when i had my 3d??
Settings the Mobile network then you will see the mode and can choose LTE/cdma or just cdma

Up to you I'm leaving mine turned on radio is built in to the processor so I don't think it makes to much of a difference where as with old phones they had another chip for the radios which drew more power.

I think the devs are working on or has a widget but LTE isn't like WiMAX where it sucks the battery down since the radio is built in to the processor

There's really no point in having a separate switch for LTE unless you really just want 3G speeds only. If they drain the same power, why not have LTE?

24004 is for corporate accounts. The 25004 is the "regular" PRL. You want the one you have .
Don't worry so much about it. PRLs oftentimes differ based on area and such. Some places get new PRLs faster, and some places just get different PRLs. A new PRL isn't a huge deal anyway, since they just decide how your phone roams.
