I have searched high and low about information regarding any custom roms for the Samsung Illusion (verizon) and Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) for a while now. I know there is a root for it finally, but can anybody more knowledgable than myself help a) get the stock base image for the device as this would be a great starting place for basic tweaks, and b) develop a CM7 or perhaps CM9 based rom for this device? I know its not a high end phone by any means but it is a very capable phone for the price and fact that it runs on Straight talks no contract Verizon network. I don't know how to develop a rom at all but I am having rom flashing withdrawals after getting rid of my old Optimus V which had many customs ROMS including CM9/ICS. If any developer could help out with this I know many people including myself would be very grateful

I got in contact with somebody that does custom roms for phones and this is what he said: "I might to if I get more requests..."
If you would like a custom rom for The Samsung Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) as I am pertaining to ICS 4.0 (Google Android OS), then request it through this website: http://www.roms-db.com/contact/
He will only take requests through this form of contact/request form!
I hope that this helped everyone in this forum and those like me that are helpless with this phone on XDA Developers!!

I sent a request asking for and ICS rom like CM9. Thanks. Let's hope more people are interested as well

I've very interested in some roms for this phone as well. It is my first android phone, I've already got it rooted but I would love to have ICS or CM9 on it. I think it would improve my battery life substantially.
Curious to know how development has come with this phone? I'll be picking one up on the 23rd and I bought one already for my husband yesterday. We are in the process of switching from Verizon to StraightTalk. (Gotta save money anywhere we can in this crappy economy)
All I know is that it is not the best phone that I had from Straight Talk, but it is the only smartphone through Verizon

This isn't the only Verizon smartphone that Straight Talk has. In my local walmart they also carry an LG with a slide out keyboard, 3.2" touch screen and 800mhz processor. I purchased one and it seems to get better battery life than the proclaim. I got the proclaim one week and the LG wasn't there, but when I returned it was on the shelf next to it. I haven't been able to find it on their website yet though.
LG Phone?!

Does the LG phone have the Qwerty Slide Keyboard along with a Touchscreen? Is it a SmartPhone??
Just wondering if that is the same phone that I saw on Straight Talk for my area...
Thanks,

Yes slide out keyboard, with a touch screen, and its running android version 2.3.x i think. Its just lower than the version that the Proclaim is running which is 2.3.6

But yea, so guess still nothing on an ICS rom for Proclaim?
I have heard nothing yet as for the ics rom goes...

don't buy the zip over the proclaim!!! The ZIP has half the memory and you can only install a few apps before having run out of space (I have the Proclaim while my sister-in-law bought the ZIP). She wishes she would have gone with the Proclaim.
I'm also interested in custom ROMs for the Proclaim but don't see it happening...I still haven't rooted as some people are saying they have issues with wifi hotspot after rooting.
I can use FoxFi now without rooting for wifi hotspot.
updates?
Any updates on ANY roms for sch s720c? Somebody help! Lol
Root First?
While we're all waiting patiently for some roms... has anyone found a root method that DOES NOT disable the functionality of USB drive?
From what I've read, the root methods so far work, with the exception that afterwards, when you plug in your phone, it shows up as a CDROM drive.

Question: Does anyone know if the new Attain to be released next month will be compatible with the ROMS and Kernels from the XDA devs, that are available for SGS2 phones? Just trying to decide what to upgrade to. Was looking at the Infuse, but may hold out for the Attain.
The attain will apparently be lte based, so the modems wont work between the roms. Also it will have 4 buttons compared to 3, so the kernel will need some touching up to be compatible kinda like the i9000/captivate kernels currently are. So in the end, i doubt you'll be able to flash i9100 roms onto the attain.

Go for the international sgs2. One less middle man for getting updates and better button configuration. Their lte network is so tiny anyway. Buy an iphone 5 when it comes out and sell it for 1k on ebay, then buy this phone and make money. There's no way the attain will beat this phone. At&t will probably take out the front facing camera and the led flash for no reason; they nerfed the captivate and there's no reason to believe they won't do the same again. Brandless all the way!!! Screw meddlesome companies.

But... Your stuck with this crappy network (pretty sure data speeds will surpass what we get here as does the infuse and inspire) ... AND...worse, the the data cap (less your grandfathered).

Will the AT&T version of the SG2 get rooted? And also be able to get custom ROMs? Just want to be ready when I pick up my SG2 Sunday. Going to sell my Nexus S.

Anything with running on top of a Linux kernel can be rooted. And being all the sgs2 models were rooted
fairly quickly after they were released i'm sure it won't be long for the ATT sgs2.
Plus the source for the kernel has already been released which will just make it go faster.

Hopefully we don't run into as many issues as the Epic 4G Touch community. Their root method at the moment involves flashing a pre-rooted kernel. And this kernel randomly causes loss of service for many users. Luckily though they're CDMA and we're GSM. I wouldn't be surprised if we were able to borrow the root method from the I9100.

They did not have a working source for the e4gt kernel when rooting that last month. From the messages I've seen posted it looks like source for the ATT gs2 has been released which will make things allot easier - as long as it is an actual working source for a stock kernel for the ATT gs2 (fingers crossed)

We are going to need the same method (flash custom kernel). That's the only way to root the latest version of GingerBread. Hopefully it is done correctly since there are already existing ones from i9100.

Hopefully yes! I'm getting this on Sunday, and want to root it ASAP.
i tried to root it with superoneclick, didnt work
Rooted
The only root method I could get to work with the AT&T Galaxy 2 was the kernel method. My AT&T SG2 did work after flashing the non secure kernel and was rooted but I lost my Back, Search and Voice call ability.
Funny, I would think you would lose home and search, considering the international one has a back and menu capacitive buttons but no search button and a physical home...
... ... ...
AFAIK, if we can get a 1:1 dump of the stock kernel image, we can install the community one, install root, su, busybox, etc... and the flash the stock kernel back to restore lost functionality.
Yeah would be nice to have a one click root and root the SGII while your at the store. and tether your ThinkPad tablet.

I don't think that'll happen. A lot of the problems with the E4GT were not due to the device, but due to inexperience and lack of coordination of some of their developers. I can't believe how long it took them to figure out that you could root a /system dump and use that to extract a kernel from a stock device...
I'm still 50/50 on purchasing a device. If I do and alton987 gets the system dump I asked for in his thread, I think I'll be able to get a stock kernel extracted and /system rooted within a few hours of purchasing - again, if I decide to go ahead.
Might wait too... Luckily I'm in my thirty days. I can get it an play with it. I've heard phone call quality isn't as good ( it is a phone after all). That may be my tie breaker to keep my infuse untill the Galaxy 2 HD comes. Call quality was annoying on my captivate.

I have had some people complain about issues hearing me on the Infuse, although on stock ROMs you could disable Samsung Noise Reduction - there might be some tweaking in Gingerbread in this regard. Most GB kernels don't have the A1026 stuff enabled because:
1) It isn't documented at all
2) Device drivers in the root of menuconfig are scary - implies that they were put into the kernel in a half-assed manner
3) It's such a ***** to test it.
If there were a good way to test call quality with the Infuse I'd work the issue more.
[Q] Another "Which ROM" Thread: Closest to Samsung Stock without limitations?
Short Question: What ROM is closest to the stock AT&T ROM without the bloatware and WiFi tethering snooping/limitations?
Long Question:
I am not a total buffoon, and have been running custom ROMs since my HTC Blue Angel. This week I upgraded my Telstra T9193 running WinMO and Froyo Super RAM to a stock AT&T SII. This is the first AT&T branded phone I have had in over a decade. Them changing the data plan to have caps and losing my grandfathered in plan of unlimited as being truly unlimited has forced me to switch phones to get the 5GB cap instead of the 3GB cap and then also I have been eligible for an upgrade for 8-9 years and havent because of the data plan.
So I like the look and feel of the stock ROM. However I despise all the AT&T bloatware on there and the lack of WiFi tethering. I have already rooted the device and it is ready to accept a new ROM.
What I am looking for is something that is close to stock, but doesn't have the AT&T contacts, doesn't have any of the pre-installed AT&T apps, doesn't have the limited market (they mask market apps?! WTF!), and doesn't have the AT&T modem that routes tether traffic differently so they can identify phone data versus tether data.
My biggest complaint is tethering. I need that. I use between 4GB and 10GB a month on my phone with data, as that is my internet line 5 days a week. For now I am still using my HTC T9193 until I can get this limitation fixed. The other ones are more of wishlists, but the tethering is a hard requirement.
So any suggestions? I am still looking over the ROM list. Last time I looked for a ROM though, there were a few big players and it was easy to pick which one you jived with best. Now it seems like everyone and there mother is trying to cook a ROM. I just want something that puts the phone back to the way Samsung and Google intended and not the crooks at AT&T...

What do you mean by "from-carrier phones".
Because the original, international Galaxy S2 is the i9100. The i777 is a carrier modified version. However the i777 is the closest to the i9100 therefore it has good development (even if it's not as good as the original one when it comes to custom roms and such).

Short Answer:
The following are all ICS based:
Pure AOSP - AOKP or CyanogenMod 9
Samsung Based without bloat - Ultimatum, Phone Bricker, ShoStock, etc.
Its on YOU to figure out what YOU want. This thread is probably going to be short lived as "Which ROM" threads are looked down upon.
First: xda has a i777 forum where you might get better help.
Second: The poster above me is right.
Third: I'm in rather good mood so you get a short overview anyway.
Google's gingerbread: CyanogenMod 7
Google's Ice Cream Sandwich:
CyanogenMod 9
Samsung's GB or ICS:
Take a look at the i777 forum as I own an i9100 and don't know the i777 scene.
Maybe worth a look too:
MIUI (the gingerbread version - MIUI v4 sucks). Something entirely different, although I don't know if it's available for the i777.
Hope this helps.

Nice! See, people do read the info.
I have installed your ROM, and it works perfectly. I am having issues with my WiFi Tethering App (android-wifi-tether, found here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/) but the built in one works well.
I just wish it had a status to show current speed and total usage for that tethering period. As well as a way to put a shortcut on a homepage.

Nope. It's not the rom that's the problem, its having that rom use a non stock kernel. To keep 4g, you would have to use a psuedorom that doesnt mess with the kernel. The only one still in development is MOF's 2.3.5ish rom.
But yes, the Photon is an amazing phone. Without a doubt the best I've ever had. And ICS is supposed to officially drop soon so that means our Jelly Bean and ICS roms will be working flawlessly. The only risk you run in ordering a Photon is that it might already have 2.3.5 on it. If this is the case, you wont be able to unlock thus unable to install any custom roms. If you do choose to get it, order it from ebay or something and make sure to ask the seller to verify it still has 2.3.4 on it by going into About Phone.
alright thanks for clarification
Great choice for you as you can have a very good phone at a affordable price. I am on Cm10 on my photon it's fantastic can give any 2012 phone a value for money competition

Considering it was released last week it's stable as hell. Obviously it'll take a bit to work out the kinks. Sending/receiving mms messages is messed up for some people, camera is a bit laggy, camcorder doesnt work, noticeable twitching in general due to the lack of 2d libs, overheats slightly, and some are reporting iffy battery life. But the exact same problems exist on our CM9 and that has been out for many months. Basically, it's about as stable as its gonna get without the proper pieces we need from Motorola. Considering they said the Atrix's official ICS build is coming in Q3 and our Photon is nearly the exact same phone, I would say we'll have the pieces we need by the end of August or mid September. Guess we will see. Congrats on getting such a good price!
Need help finding ROM with Vanilla launcher
Just brought Motorola Photon 4G on ebay and it will come on Sat or Mon! I also told him not to update it haha.
Meanwhile, i want a stable vanilla rom and this rom is close as vanilla rom. Can I flash that rom ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224896 Or any roms that have vanilla launcher. Not a big fan of ADW launcher btw.
Yeah you should be able to flash that, but it is kind of outdated. If you want to use cm7 you don't have to use adw launcher. Just download a different one.

Alien is quite dated. No one has worked on that since last year. Technically, CyanogenMod is vanilla android with extra customization options. Blows AOSP out of the water and is clean as a whistle. CM7.2(gingerbread), CM9(ICS), CM10(JB) -- take your pick! Id start out with 7.2 as everything works flawlessly. Once you are familiar with everything and are willing to deal with a few bugs but still stable builds, try CM9 or 10.
My wife has a T-Mobile Prism phone and I do not see any mention of it in the forum. I myself have the GS3 which rocks!
Am I missing something? I think the phone has the 2.3 gingerbread or honeycomb...I am not sure (she is not home so I cannot look at the phone right now) about the specs of the phone and operating system.
Anyway if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what I can do with this phone to make it faster for her would be apprecited. If I could root the phone I would like to set her up with tethering so she can use her laptop wherever she is. Also if the phone could handle ICS or a Jelly Bean ROM that would be awesome!
Thanks in advace for any help! This forum rocks!

Check out this guide, it will tell you what you need to do to root the phone, install CWM, and then CM 7.2 (Its gingerbread based but a very solid ROM at that). This should speed up the performance of your wife's phone, and allow for wireless/wired tethering if she wants to use it Wireless Tether. As a side note the phone would be running gingerbread (2.3-2.3.7), honeycomb (3.0-3.2) was meant for tablets . Hope this helps .

Glad I could help man , if you want a guide that might be able to help convince your wife check out this guide. If she's more of the visual learning type of person the official CM 7.2 introduction video might be helpful as well as this video, which even though it's for the Samsung Epic 4g touch it does a good job of showcasing the features of CM 7.2 on a basic and easy to understand level.
