Recently I traded my galaxy nexus for a galaxy tab 10.1. But whenever I plug it into a computer or an outlet there's a red x on the battery... it charges reallllly slow. I left it to charge for nine hours from an outlet while turned off, and it went from 5% to 55%. WOW. That's really slow. So I thought that the problem is the cable so I bought a new cable that came with a car adapter. And it worked like a charm in the car. However when I traded I kept the 3 pronged galaxy nexus charger. So anyways I arrived home happy, but I wanted to test it in the computer... Red x again. I tried the wall outlet, again with the x. I tried the wall outlet with 110v and 220v still red x. Then I looked at both outputs on the wall charger and car charger both had the same output which is 5volts and 1A. Then I looked at the input and the car charger was 12-24VDC and the wall outlet was 100-240v and 50Hz and 0.15A. I need help please.
I have 3.2 honeycomb and P7500.
I think that this is an internal issue software wise.
If you need anymore information don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks in advance

On stock settings u wont be able to charge the device connected to ur computer and u will get the Red X on the battery icon! Therez a small tweak to activate that feature to activate charge on pc connect but u will loose the mtp connection. As far as this issue... Seems to be a battery proble. Still try to flash and get to stock to confirm.

What do you mean by loosing mtp? Also I'm a bit noobish at this because I just switched from ios. So can you dumb Down what you said a little. And what do you mean by "still try to flash and to get stock to confirm."
Also my problem is wall charging.

I get that if I try use galaxy nexus charger, however if I charge my galaxy nexus with the tab 10.1 charger I have no problems, make sure your using the correct charger, and for the slow charging I have a USB extension cable if I use that it can take up to 12 hours for a full charge
By charger do you mean cable or outlet?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
simplest answer is that the red X means that you're not supplying enough voltage to your tablet. You need 2A (A = Amps), computer USB ports generally do 500mA (1/4 of what you need). Phones usually need less. So the reason your tablet won't charge off the phone charger is because it doesn't supply enough voltage; the phone does fine on the tablet charger because it's just oversupplied (don't worry, your phone won't be damaged by this!)
So what you need is:
1) an original charger for this particular tablet (the cable probably isn't the issue, but I've seen cables that can't transmit the full voltage. The nook color is a good example of this)
2) a 2A charger - can't promise any particular ones work though...
3) (and this is the one you should do): You're on XDA. This is a place for folks who root and install custom ROMs on their devices. Most of the ROMs have USB charging built-in (in the Kernel; don't worry about what that means). Install a custom ROM (I'd suggest AOKP). Problem solved, plus you've increased both performance and functionality of your device exponentially. If you're not willing to do this, XDA probably isn't the place for you anyways.

The outlet , the one for my tab is twice as big as my Gnex one, I guessing they both give out different power, get the official charger!! like I said I can replicate that any time I want by using the tab cable with my Gnex outlet,
Thank you soooo much

I found a solution to a problem that was really vexxxxing me. One of my chargers was working and the other (longer lead) all of a sudden started showing the red cross. Ahhh. The solution (http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...galaxy-tab-10-1-not-charging-brand-new-3.html) was to blow very hard on the 30 pins of the charger and hey presto - started charging again without the red cross.
There are solutions to this problem with quite a few custom ROMs. Task's ICS for example has this patched. I am quite certain there are others.

I've had 2 android devices and both of them have this same problem. When I'm charging the phone it makes typing a nightmare. Somehow it seems to throw something off. The only way to describe it is like it creates a lag. It doesn't matter what keyboard I use, what ROM I use (so far). My first device was an HTC Incredible and my current device is Galaxy S2. Never experienced this on Blackberry or Windows Phone 7. Anyone know how I can make this stop because I sure would like to be able to text and charge at the same time for once. Thanks a ton in advance!

I have this problem with my phone as well. Its gets pretty unresponsive while being charged. Another member told me it could be the charger thats causing this...as soon as i take it off the charger ..its fixed. So i don't mess with it anymore when charging.

What wall adapter/cord are you using
Aftermarket or other vendor chargers can produce some sort of frequency or oscillation that has a negative effect on the touch screen.
Try charging with the Samsung charger.
Same with "dirty" wall power - stock charger on a Sears inverter basically locked up my Infuse's screen and made it unusable.
Stock charger on any normal wall outlet was fine.
OEM charger straight from the wall for this Samsung. Doesn't matter what kind of charger (have several OEM Blackberry chargers and the output is the same), direct wall power, surge protector or car charger. Happens everywhere...my house, friend's, parent's...gotta be the phone or a combination of both. I found an app called Voltage Control but can't figure it out for nuthin' nor am I sure if it'll even help this. I'm one of those folks that sadly lives and breathes via this device and as Murphy's Law would have it, it seems I always need it the most when it's charging. I'm gonna research the crapple out of this and if I find a solution I'll certainly be back here to spread the word...

I discovered today that, for some reason, my prime will not charge. The LED at the top isn't on either. I recall first using it this morning around 9am and it had 25% left but I needed to travel so I didn't use it. When I wanted to use it again, hours later, the meter showed that it had 36% which didn't make sense. However, I am able to connect it to my computer to transfer files.
Here's some info just in case:
-My device is unlocked
-I had the current Primalicious Rom when I discovered the problem
-I did a factory reset in hopes to solve the problem (didn't work)
-I installed a different rom (AOKP, but didn't work)
-I installed another rom (Virtuous, hasn't worked either)
-I've tried charging my phone with the Prime's power source and that works
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks in advanced.
Either the cable or the charger is bad. You can try the various "fixes' in the forum such as bending pins, freezer, etc just in case. In my case, I could transfer data and trickle charge via USB but nothing else. Turned out to be a cable problem.

Maybe I have the same case as you but I decided to leave it on the charger to see if anything would change and I was able to go from 17% to 82 % in 5 hours but I usually takes a shorter time to fully charge. The weird thing is that I never get a notification that the battery is charging and in the battery portion of the settings it says the battery isn't charging even when I'm plugged in.
Well, I went to Best Buy today to see if their cable would charge my tablet and it did so I'm off to get a new cable. Thanks for the help!
It may not be the cable. Check the charger as well. A lot of the chargers have gone bad and caused the same problem

If you are trying to charge by usb, you have to have a usb 3, not 2 port as the Prime requires 15v to charge and the usb 2 port does not provide that.
If you search these forums, it has been discussed in several threads, so that may be your problem. You need to use the charger that was included with your prime. Even car chargers not rated properly will not work as well.

Actually, that's false. It does not need 15v....it will work with 18 watts at 12x1.5 and 15x1.2. The Prime by itself will charge on USB 2.0, but very slow. The only difference with 3.0 is higher amps (.3-.4 average higher) from usb 2.0. The voltage is the same. It has been discussed, but I don't think you read the posts. Wikipedia has an excellent article on USB you should check on. Also, the charger that came from Asus have a variable rate from 5x2 to 15x1.2 based on resistance via the wall adapter. It's the same charger used on the 101. The 201 has better power management and can even take a charge through USB 2.0 with low usage, or at least keep the battery at a stable number. OC users will not have such success under use and wifi other than a slower dissipation of the battery. Check the 101 forums regarding the use of other chargers, both car and home, that work well. I use an adaptaplug from Radioshack that is 12x1.5. Unlike some of the problems people have been having with faulty no-name 3rd parties and the high rate of OEM failures, there have been some conventional and not-so-conventional projects that have been successful and not damaging to the tablet. Note: With the dock, you will need 12 volts at least for it to register correctly and charge since the dock battery is rated (if i remember correctly) at 7.5 volts. Maybe my results may differ based on OC kernels and their voltage tables as well as rom choice as far as battery usage. Just some facts to throw out there for readers and the OP for a better idea of what will and won't work.

Its the cable. I was also able to/charge my phone. I've found that the cable is quite delicate and doesn't like to be tied up, etc.
I have just had the same problem. Stock charger worked yesterday then wouldn't work today. Just stopped. Wouldn't light up or charge did not know why. I read a few of these forms and they kept talking about pins in the usb.
I got a torch of and looked at all the connection on both sides of the cable and the wall charger. Looked fine for my untrained eye
But i thought i would play with the pins in the usb cord side anyway. Plugged everything back in and it worked fine. Job done thanks to xda forums.
Mine stopped working a few months ago, so I unplugged it from the wall for a few days and left it alone. Decided to try it a few days later and it worked no problem. No idea what the issue was lol... Everything was plugged in fully and properly, and the outlet I used was the same both times.

I've tried searching for this answer so I apologize in advance if I missed it. Coming from the iOS world, I got a Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 this weekend (and love it to death already). I have a number of iPod/iPad USB Wall Chargers around so was wondering if anyone uses or if these can be used to charge the Galaxy 5.0?

The port on the USB cable won't fit in the galaxy player if its the little plug that you can detach and attach then you can use them

If you're talking about an adapter that plugs into the wall and gives you a USB port (which you can plug another cable into), you can give it a try. It might not work or work well because of current limitations, etc., but you can try. However, the cable that you plug into your iPod/iPad cannot be plugged into your galaxy player, if that's what you're asking - Apple has it's own dock connector, which is incompatible with Micro-/Mini-USB (I forgot which it is, but it applies to both).
the "wall wart" as they call it has a USB output, any and all USB outputs will work as they ALL charge at 5 volts (usb standard), that said you will have to use the USB cable that came with the SGP 5.0 as Apple has there own proprietary connector. The question is how well they will work, as chargers can range from .5 amps to 1.2 amps (general USB chargers not apple specifically), I believe you need atleast a .7 amp to charge, higher amps means faster charging, lower means slower to possible not enough output to even charge, so you need to check the specs of each charger and see what there outputs are.
Charging adapters for iDevices will get detected as a USB port by Samsungs. It will charge, but it won't charge nearly as fast as the stock charger.
I don't think people got what you meant. Yeah. All wall chargers work with any USB.

the usb slot on the plug is just like any other usb so it can power anything if you have the right cable.

Yes you can use the "wall" charger --iPhone/iPod use a 5 watt charger. The iPad uses a 10 watt which is what I use to charge my player using the USB cord that came with the player.
I also use the "plug" that came with the player--it just takes an eternity to fully charge.
The reason why it takes forever to charge is because of the kernal that Samsung installed on it. If you haven't changed it, what I would do is disable the GPS and bluetooth and change the wi-fi sleep mode to when screen is off under the advanced selecton by hitting the menu key in your wifi and networks settings.

Apple A1299 on Galaxy Player 4.2 ?
Hello, my first post here and I hope I can reopen this thread safely.
I've just bought a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 from Amazon UK which comes with its own mains charger and USB cable.
I also have a spare Apple A1299 charger that my former flatmate used for his Ipod. When I connect the USB adaptor to this charger and the Galaxy is switched off, there's no indication that the battery is charging. At first I though it didn't work at all. If I switch the device on, it appears to be charging.
I've also tried this charger on a Philips MP3 player and here too, it doesn't show it's charging but it does indeed charge.
Can I have a clarification if this particular charger won't damage my Galaxy Player?
Thanks
Ottavio
The charger that works is the one for iPad which doesn't use the same as iPhone.

Not true. Back in the day I used one to charge my iPod and it actually pulled power from my iPod since its not giving out enough power. So I had a power dead iPod the next day. Shouldn't happen but its good to note how much power it can give out. I don't think this is as a big a problem now but better be cautious.
Hi! I'm having issues with my S3 charging via USB using mains. I tried 3rd party cable & original cable, both doesn't seem to work. The screen says its charging but after 30 mins, when went to check, the percentage remains the same. It was only when i switch off the phone that i managed to charge it. Any solution to this?

hmm. tried 2 different 3rd party USB power plug.
My experience so far: with standard charger + cable, this thing charges really slowly! An impatient person might even get the impression it's not charging at all. In fact if I use my S3 while connected to the wall (charging!), the battery will actually discharge instead of charge. Bottom line: plug it in over night, and consider buying extra batteries.
What's wrong with original cable? I'm using my portable hdd microusb cable, works well plugged into Xbox for charging

Mine charge pretty quickly (standard charger + USB cable)
But it does charge slowly if i use USB cable to my PC or laptop
Charging from a PC USB port not designed for charging will be slow as you aren't really getting all the juice you need. Best thing is to charge from the mains. My charger's fuse went the day I got my phone. As luck would have it, my Xperia X10 charger works just fine. So I now use that instead.
I experience almost impossible charging via anyone usb on my PC. I get info from device manager that the running port to my S3 outputs only 96mA, which is quite insufficient for charging. This is the first one smartphone which cannot be charged via USB port. I've had Galaxy Note, Galaxy SII, HTC Desire HD, HD2, etc... everyone is charging quite well from the usb ports... It's annoying...
S3 USB Charging Problem
I still haven't seen an answer here about the issue with S3 Charging via USB.
Mine is charging VERY slowly and it's infuriating. My HTC Desire S charges Via USB fine.

Check your AC adapter, especially if you're using the travel adapter. If the connection is loose, it will think you're charging with USB. Go to your phone settings and make sure it says "Charging (AC)" and not "Charging (USB)"....unless you ARE charging with USB, then it's supposed to be slow...iono about 6 hours though...

I had the same problem with my phone. Turned out it was the USB cable. Got it replaced from Samsung. You might want to check a different USB cable or a different charger. Battery charging incredibly slowly even after switching cables
I got the notification to update my I9300 to Jelly Bean yesterday and went ahead with it. The battery lasted an okay enough time, but I left it plugged in using the stock wall charger overnight. After almost 11 hours, it has only gone from 10% to 75% and I've seen it drop a couple of times while I've gone through the settings. Switching to another charger doesn't seem to make a difference and using the CurrentWidget app shows about 999mA all the time. I haven't rooted it or anything, so it has been difficult to find threads with the exact same issue. Is anyone else experiencing something similar? Thanks!

hi there i just got the same problem as you are getting right now im observing my gs3 and found the charging is very slow 1% evry 30mintues and that the condition is the brightness is low wifi and 3g is off i notice this happen just this morning after 24 hour of chargin using the AC charger from the galaxy s2. right now im using usb cable plugin to the wall out let and also tried plug it in to usb port still having slow charging issue my s3 is JB updated and that it is not rooted, before all this issue happen i was using the same usb cable tha im using bow 2days ago and i have no issue i could watch movie while plugin to the usb port or the wall outlet and im still around 94 to 97% charge with full brightness on and wifi and 3g is on, im in singapore and the outlet here is 220v. ill try to check if might be thusb cable is the issue r not.
my problem is the cable. i used my old samsung phone's charger and it worked!
Same here..
Same problem here, the i9300 charged almost nothing through the night. It recognised the charger as AC. After I woke up, I just took the cable out and reinserted it, then it charged way faster the short while before I went to work. I read somewhere that phones with jelly bean installed OTA over gingerbread could have this problem? I can't really say if it's the charger, the cable or the phone that is the culprit. I have previously had a problem with getting the phone to accept my car charger as well..
The cable you use makes a huge difference.
Best to use the original cable, using an old Nokia cable also works fine.
Be ware of 3rd party cables that for some reason dont deliver sufficient juice to the phone and then it charges very slow....
I guess I should add that I used the original cable and charger. I'll come back with a post if I experience more problems.
