[Q] ICS upgrade Keeps restarting - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi all,
I got so excited today to get the new ICS update. But as soon as it was done, I got this weird looping restart. I have no idea what is causing it. I tried to update and I tried the emergency update like it's mentioned in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?
To make things worse, now I can't even connect to Kies!
Help me obi-wan kenobi, you're my only hope

Reread the post above yours. He put everything there FOR YOU. If the answer is not there it will be, ask THERE. Oh and spread the word it will help everyone else out too. Probly the most useful thread in AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717.

I was on that thread first and they were getting way off track. I wanted a solution to my problem, not an analysis of a black crush test, whatever that is.

Do we REALLY want ALL ICS posts on ONE thread? Imagine having all gingerbread posts on one thread. It makes no sense.

Pretty sure I had a similar problem to yours. It kept popping up a message "com.apple.phone won't launch" or something similar and would go in a bootloop.
Might've done it totally wrong but when I updated I still had CWM (so go flash CWM?) then wipe data wipe cache factory reset and everything should work.

Completely agree. I understand the impulse, but it's not very practical when you stop and think about it.

It won't stay that way just for time being when fitty different threads pop up to say the same thing like ICS official, AT&T official ICS release, ect once that dies down new threads about ICS will be allowed Im sure

Did you try format/wipe in recovery after flashing?

Only thing that worked was this, full wipe and then it got better. Now it works great

The method in the second post of this thread worked great for me. I first tried installing the odin download and it would just boot to the samsung screen and stay there, so I did the emergency software recovery through Kies following the steps EXACTLY as given and had the upgrade loaded and running fine. 5 minutes later rooted and superuser installed. Sweet!:good:

I agree, too many conversations going at once

As opposed to every section being post after post after post after post of the same thing?
Just look how many threads there are of "do i need to unroot/flash to stock/sacrifice a goat at midnight to update to official ics?" already...

Perhaps you should have bothered to read that this is the SGH-I777 forum before flashing, not the SGH-I727 forum? Flashing anything meant for I777 on I727 will kill the bootloaders and hardbrick the device. JTAG time for you - mobiletechvideos.com can probably help you.

MeanROM ICS v1.91 issue with Recent Apps function

Hello,
I was running MeanROM ICS v1.7 before and everything was running correctly. After upgrading to MeanROM ICS v1.91 I am having an issue with the Recent Apps function. The right-menu button does bring up the Recent Apps, but on that screen none of my Recent Apps are displayed, and only a small yellow box appears at the bottom. As I mentioned earlier I was running MeanROM ICS v1.7 and this was not the case.
I did flash the "stock-button" zip that is included with the ROM on a flyer that it might resolve the issue, but it did not. The button brings up the screen, but the functionality is gone. If anyone else has upgraded to v1.91 if they could confirm that it is/is not happening on their device it would be greatly appreciated so I can determine if it is just my device or the upgrade.
Thanks in advance.
...and mikeyxda, thank you very much for the MeanROM in the first place, it's a great ROM.

PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PROBLEMS IN THIS THREAD UNTIL you've done a full wipe and fresh install to see if that cures it. I know I should really just do like most devs and proclaim REQUIRES FULL WIPE/FRESH INSTALL on every version. That saves me a lot of headaches but I know what a PITA a fresh install can be even with MyBackup or Titanium at your disposal. So it never hurts to try just a flash without a full wipe, but if you run into any HINT of a problem... anything at all... don't report the problem in this thread until you've tried a full wipe and fresh install first to see if that cures the problem!

I guess that was why I didn't post it in the thread from where you pulled the quote, and I started a new one. It is my fault that I didn't mention that I HAD done a full wipe of the device when installing v1.91 as a part of my upgrade process.
I saw that Mike released v1.92 today, and did another upgrade (including doing a wipe), and that appears to have resolved that particular issue, but thank you for the 'lol' and smart-ass response. Very helpful.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate that you did reply. Sorry I read more in to it than intended.
I did discover that the issue wasn't with the ROM, but with a different battery mod that I was applying. Apparently, there is a known issue with the particular battery mods that I was trying to apply post-flashing MeanROM. The battery mods I was attempting to use can be found in this thread. It's unfortunate, because he's got some nice battery mods there. I'd like to use something else other than the one that is provided with MeanROM, but I don't want the mod to cause other issues with the ROM. So now I'm looking for other battery mods that work with MeanROM.
Again, thanks for your reply.

Okay, I've got a question

I was wondering will anything on the 4.0 work on the 4.2? they are both android 2.3, both yp-gs1 (I think)
and it's basically the same thing minus a few hardware differences that I can see. Maybe I'm wrong, I've been wrong before.

nope. they are different devices and you will brick your device if you try to flash a 4.0 rom or kernel.
I see. I suppose that makes sense, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to mobile devices. My other question, which I asked in the Q and A section only to be ignored for the past two days is this:
is it at all possible to upgrade the 4.2 galaxy player to ICS or Jellybean?
I know this should be in a q and a thread and so on but really, I'm looking for an answer, not to be ignored for two days only to get a short answer that doesn't give me...well...an actual answer. I know how these sites work and usually that is what happens unless you make a new thread.

Well first you need a dev to get ICS/JB for the device. Currently I'm working on CM7 which is still GB but it's a start... And I'm not really an experienced dev it's just that there's really no one else to try it.

[Q] My S4 won't turn off!!

Guys I need help here. I just rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500), and it was fine for a few hours...but now it just wont turn off.
Even when the screen times out.
Even when I press the power button.
It will just stay on no matter what. (Interestingly, long pressing the power button does bring up the power dialogue!)
I did not flash any Custom ROM. I did not even install any recovery! The only tinkering I did was Setting cpu speed using Tasker...
Guys please help...I'm in trouble...
If the kernel you used is uncompatible or if its a stock kernel, you will get issues, also if you set the frequency to high for your phone,it will give issues,Look @ this.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727171

I tried restarting the phone. Nothing happened. I removed the battery and re inserted. Nothing happened.
, I decided to factory reset. I lost root, but the kernel stuck...Aaaarrrggghhhh.
Problem still persisting.
Umm by battery pull, do you mean removing the battery while the phone is on?
(Update: Trying removing the battery while the phone was on...didn't help)
Thankfully, I've got the S View cover...So most of the screen is black, just the time, etc are on...
