what ever makes a devs life easy is always good..... With that said i doubt HTC is going to drop source anytime soon. In no way shape or form am i saying that kernel source is not needed .
Well, it's live in AOSP now. I'm sure we'll see some JB love, and that will only get better once HTC does actually drop kernel source.
HTC released a lot of kernel source today in htcdev..even the one v source and all of.the one x source but the s4 version..I wonder if the one s source is close to our devices and if the devs could.work with that

So, with the recent release of HTC kernel source for the LTE, does this mean we might see some AOSP love? The multitasking in Sense is killing me... I can't fathom how my OG EVO performed better than this phone (not faster, just better).

There are already some "almost fully functional" AOSP ROM's in the Original Development section. I'm sure the recent release of source by HTC will help. All in due time. The OG was an amazing device for development and hopefully the LTE will be there soon.

kernel.org is not down. It was hacked last year but has been back up for months. Google searching provides no news story beyond August of last year.

Indeed, jellybean is coming! There's a discussion on the CM9 thread about CM10 and jellybean (Deck has a bootable build!) exciting times.
Also there's a pure AOSP non-CM build by preludedrew on his twitter that you can download and test. No radio is working atm so it would just be a proof of concept of how Jellybean runs (spoiler: superfast) on our phone. Check it out if you want but keep your nandroid backup nearby.

This is not a rant or a complaint thread by any means, just curious. What's the deal with Jelly Bean? Months ago it was stated that JB would be an easy jump from ICS once we got kernel source. Is this not the case? Is nobody working on it? Any insight would be appreciated.
Once again, not a rant thread just trying to sift for information.

Ditto. Take a look at https://github.com/intervigilium for the pieces of Intervigilium's Sensation port and do git diff on files between branches to see what he changed. The only thing you'll need to do extra is to update the RIL for the new android_frameworks_base.
I'm almost inclined to do the Jellybean conversion myself, but at the moment I'm just too lazy.

Are you sitting on a bunch of build fixes?
Because after messing with it, it looks to me that we need the updated msm framebuffer headers to get the latest libhwcomposer and friends to compile. The modified ABI means the kernel needs the updated driver to actually work, and that entails a lot of other intra-kernel dependencies, too.

It's definitely possible for unofficial support for MIUI to arrive for the one in a port but nothing can happen until CyanogenMod builds a solid base for things to run off of since they have the largest number of contributors working on everything AOSP Android. And everyone pulls bits and pieces from their code to be able to build stable ROMs.

I personally think a sensed based miui is for the best considering there is a huge difference between quality of camera in sense vs aosp. Plus people get boom sound. It really is a no compromise option and the base is (for all intents and purposes really solid).
Also why is this in dev?

Sometimes VZW throws a wrench in between the leak and the release, though I think it took 8 months from the Thunderbolt JB leak to release? And it changed VERY little.
That being said, I am optimistic that the 5.1 /4.2 release will happen sooner rather than later, although a DNA+ release on VZW might throw the timing off.

I believe you need to port the jb_2.5 kernel from caf or just the GPU drivers. HTC has not been changing much from caf on their 3.4 kernels, so it should be compatible. That's what I'm working on for my optimus. With that, it should boot without changing anything in system. You may also need to try a butterfly kernel. Has anyone seen if those are compatible?
