Just use GooManager from the play store to flash Twrp.
But make sure you unlock your prime first if not done already.
*Warning unlocking voids your warranty.

Without PCat all it's not possible as you need to be rooted to use terminal commands. And to be rooted you must use the root tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588. For this you need a PC...
Then install busybox using one of the busybox installer on google play.
then use method two here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576937 (works with every recovery, adapt the file name)

Thanks worked like a charm...

There are numerous apps on the market for getting into your bootloader(if unlocked),and into recovery. Reboot for example, if your not familiar with the terminal or ADB.

Oh, and to root a phone, please give the name of the phone your rooting, and the android version. Froyo, gingerbread....... take gingerbread for example, you could use gingerbreak. Other examples would be zerg, one click,as well as through ADB using the right files and place them in all the right places and setting correct permissions.

Usually rooting steps: temp root (e.g. SuperOneClick) --> flash recovery --> boot into recovery --> flash superuser.zip (su & Superuser.apk) --> reboot
I believe the recovery is platform specific, make sure you have recovery for your tablet.

Go download which ever recovery you want (typically romracer's) and flash it with fastboot. There are more than a few tutorials on how to do this.

Yep, should be able to push the stock recovery image via adb or terminal emulator as described in this thread:
Edit: Just realized you're not on a VZW GS3 but there are probably similar instructions for yours.

Yes the rooting is the same and the link developweb gave you is the easiest instructions and it is how I rooted my I717r. However....
If after installing Recovery (cwm or twrp) and you reboot into recovery to install superuser you find out you still have stock recovery installed then you need to do an extra step. Depending on how your phone was updated there may be a script installed that restores the stock recovery. So after you install custom recovery remove your battery while it is rebooting. This will prevent the script from reinstalling stock recovery. Then boot into recovery yourself to install superuser.
Info about rooting the Canadian version is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775263
I rooted my I717r with ICS installed. I installed ICS using odin and the script was not on my phone. I believe if your phone was updated via OTA then it got the script. I have no idea if this script is carried over into jellybean or not.
Thanks a lot everyone

Where do I get the su zip
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda premium
Google chainfire su 1.91 zip. Download. Reboot to philz. Goto philz settings in recovery and reroot su. You'll see the option. Then flash the 1.91 zip. Youll be good to go. I've been using philz to backup roms cuz it has compression and is super fast at backing up and restoring. Like 2 min restores. Then I use twrp to install because it does the permissions way better. If I was smart in the ways of 1's and 0's I'd Frankenstein a recovery out of the two like that. Good luck.
