As a wise colleague of mine said a few posts above yours, "You need to read, a lot". As per my post above read the section that says "Help ! Which file do I use ?' carefully/slowly/several times. The information that will enable you to chose the 'correct' kernel is in that section.
One thing you need to check tho. Check the sticker on the phone chassis under the battery & make sure you have an I9100 or I9100T. Once you're sure the info I've referred you to in the CFRoot thread makes choosing the right kernel simple.
If you still can't work out which kernel to use, you're not reading carefully/closely enough & I'd reconsider doing anything to your phone if I were you. People who don't pay attention or rush blindly into things/take shortcuts tend to end up with borked phones.

1) Remove your email address from your post; do you want to be spammed mercilessly ?
2) If you can't find the thread stickied 2nd from the top of Q&A which has the information you need, I'm not sure you should be messing with your phone in the first place. There's a fair chance it's going to end up busted.

[Q] help with rooting samsung gs II gtI1900

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from vodafone. Here are the specs:
Android ver:4.0.3
Baseband:I9100BULP6
Kernel:3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484 [email protected] #3
Build nr:IML74K.BULPC
Now running on AT&T
I want to root this phone while maintaining the stock firmware. Could some help me out I can't seem to find the right kernel to use. I appreciate it (p.s I did like to unroot at a later stage).
thanx
I suggest you go to the i9100 sub-forum and search there, post if need. Do search first.
I recommend the page galaxys2root.com there are very thorough video explanations for every version of SGS2

Some Noob Questions Regarding Root

Hello Everyone,
First of all my appoligies if I am posting this at the wrong place and also because I have been warned in several threads not to post a new thread unless I am sure that I have to.
The reason I am posting this is because I am very confused by the root process, below is the reason why
I have a Galaxy S II I9100G with me and I first went to this thread to root my kernel, the problem I have there is that My About phone section does NOT show the Kernel Version as advertised in the thread, all I see is this " 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2 ". So I didnt know which CF-Root file to choose as I dont want to brick my phone.
Secondly The Instructions seems to be posted in the I9100 section and not in the " I9100G Android Development " section which also confuses me as whether I should be using those instructions or not.
So please guide me towards what file from the CF-Root to use or what my kernel version is, or any alternate kernel if this one isnt right for me
Here Is all the info I can get for my phone
Baseband Version: I9100GXXKL4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLB1
PDA: I9100GXXlb1
PHONE: I9100GXXKL4
CSC: I9100GDBTKL2
Again sorry for the creation of this thread if its against the rules but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Good to ask before flashing the wrong kernel to your phone.
I do not recommend to flash a GT-I9100 kernel to a GT-I9100G.
Have a look here for another rooting method => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105
Here is a rooting thread specially for the GT-I9100G => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679778
P.S.: To see your current kernel version, you can also have a look at your Build version number or dial *#1234# into your phone, then check the PDA version. This is usually the same as your kernel version, when you are still on stock firmware.
In your case => XXLB1, which is Android 2.3.6 (GingerBread).

Thank you for clearing it up for me that I have LB1, I previously thought I had KL4 and was going to flash KL3 kernel on my phone.
One last thing, there are a lot of methods on the 2 links you provided and most of them for ICS phones, can you point me to the one which I should be using and is the simplest, I would be greatful
regards
I sugest you use method 1 as it is the simplest and does not involve to many confusing procedures for you.
many thanks mate for all the help, method 1 works like a charm, the only thing left it a yellow rectangle which I will figure out, now its time for me to look for cool roms

Be careful with the kernel you flash, be sure its compatible with your device. (google is always a good friend)
About "how to" topics, I suggest you do a search on the "general" and "q&a" categories, there I'm pretty sure you'll find a variety of guides and tutorials for new users.
Best kernel and rom don't exist, its all about what you need and what you're prepared to sacrifice/do in your device. Some roms have bugs that other don't, some are faster but drain more battery, and so on. So try them yourself (remember what I said about compatibility, and also do backups).
I hope this helps.
hi tnx for the reply are you also using a not international version??
No, I'm using the S2 international version, but in the past i've had other regional models (other devices, not exactly s2). So I know what I say when I say to check compatibility first and do backup.
Devices may differ from hardware to partition sizes and other stuff. Try googling your actual kernel or find out what rom is that, its a start.

Your device is already converted to international version from the info you posted.
Please post the screenshot of your phone information .
Goto Settings > About phone, take the screenshot and post it here.

[Q] The safest way to root Galaxy SII i9100?

Hi there,
Please could someone post relevant information on how to root the Galaxy SII, I have searched a lot of threads and can't seem to find a reasonably safe solution to my question. People say its not possible to root a Galaxy SII lately due to a hardbrick bug in the chip. Please could someone enlighten me on this topic and tell me if it's safe or unsafe. I will post the details on this thread to the best of my knowledge.
Ok here goes;
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.4 (ICS)
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
Also, I have installed the eMMC brickbug check app from the play store and here is the result i was given;
Brick Bug ? No. Sane chip (no idea what this means but I'm guessing my chip is safe to just flash any Kernel?)
I am just looking to root for now and possibly flash a custom ROM in the near future but at the moment I am happy with the stock firmware but I just want to be able to use Titanium Backup, Superuser & ROM Manager but i am unable to do so until I have rooted my Galaxy SII.
I'm not new to any of this because I previously had a ZTE Blade which I rooted & flashed custom ROMs myself, this was a walk in the park compared to the Galaxy SII. On threads which I have browsed through, some people state to use Siyah Kernel, would this be safe to flash through Odin? Or maybe I could use CF-root.
thank you for reading my post & I'd be so grateful if someone could provide links and/or instructions. Much appreciated!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794, use that, method 1 always works.
oh and if you just wanna be 100% you wont be affected by brickbug, just flash siyah kernel through odin, that will give you root + CWM recovery
In my opinion, you should go for siyah but pick whatever u prefer
Thank you Poroto, I will probably try the method 1 posted by Phil3759. That looks kind of safe but I'll read through that thread you posted first before I decide. I really appreciate your help

No worries, just remember not to wipe anything on stock 4.0.4 kernel under any circumstances.

You may check this website
There are also many useful information about your phone.
Why are you linking people to guides on other sites ?
It's a bit hard for other people here to help this person with that method if they get stuck (as if you're going to be around 24/7). I'm certainly not even going to look at anything related to rooting on another site for that reason, plus chances are the information has been lifted from here anyway.
There is a wealth of information on this subject on this site, please refer people to that in future rather than info off site for such a basic query.
