I keeping getting a bootloop on all ics roms and I tried a kernal that someone recommend but it kills my 3d and i get random reboots . Is there any way to fix this problem and install the ROM with everything working. I'm on hb 1.50 . S- on . Or is there a way to downgrade to hb 1.40 but i don't have a Linux . What's the easiest way ?

I also get the same results!
You can always try 4EXT Recovery with smartflash on. It works for both S-On and S-Off

try a superwipe. that fixed mine. Look in the dev forum for it (i think you can find it in the mean rom thread)
You could also downgrade using the instructions in the development thread. Ir doesnt require Linux, it includes a downloadable bootable CD. ITA damn near an automated process minus the brick part. And +1 for 4ext recovery it has features built just for S-on.
My other shooter is an FNAR .308
I already tired a super wipe and my netboot doesn't have a cd drive .

Try using any of Chad.Goodman's ICS Kernel after flashing an ICS ROM
1) DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK
2) USE THE RIGHT KERNEL

Well what kernel did you use, you could be flashing the wrong one. The other option is to downgrade HBOOT ,, no linux required

I got my ICS ROM to work by flashing RLS1
I doubt downgrading HBOOT will help, he's getting it to work with Chad's kernel. I'm exhibiting the exact same issue with bootloops with the stock kernel(in my case I used the shooter ice kernel to get it to boot) and I'm S-OFF/GSM so I'm pretty sure the issue isn't HBOOT related.
Same here
I have the same issue. I use 4ext with smartflash for recovery. I'm able to flash any GB rom I want, but when I try an ICS rom with a stock kernel I get the boot looping. Is there any other way to make this work? I don't want to dig into the brick/unbrick business if I can help it. I have also tried using Flash Img GUI and fastboot/adb to flash the kernel with the exact same results. Any information on this would help, but a solution would be fantastic!
._. I see what's going on... It's GSM users trying to flash CDMA kernels once again.

+1 to this. The stock Ics kernel does not do well with 1.5 s-on. Since you cannot downgrade to 1.4 s-off, you should try the new 1.5 s-off method. Otherwise you have to use a custom kernel which is not 100% yet.

Seems like no stock ics kernels like 1.4 hboot period with or without s-off. None would work for me until i updated my hboot to 1.5 and had s-off.

Do you have an RUU for the build that contains that hboot? You should be able to pull it out of the .exe or .zip version of the RUU, then repackage it to flash separately.
That's what I've done for hboots for the Evo 3D CDMA.

If you have a zip version of the RUU, you need to take the android-info.txt and hboot file out of the root of that zip and re-zip then into a file called PG86IMG.zip, then flash that file from your bootloader (assuming you are S-OFF). If you are not S-OFF, the only way to change the bootloader is to flash the entire RUU, or change it in the process of getting S-OFF.
If the RUU is an .exe file, mpgrimm2 has instructions on how to extract the files you need in this post.

Going S-OFF with JuopuntBear (wire trick) is definitely good advice. I was able to flash an RUU with hboot 1.50 over a configuration that had hboot 1.58 on an E3D CDMA model using the RUU.exe for the earlier release, but that was with S-OFF.
I have a thread in this forum about modifying the Main Version (mainver) of the phone to allow flashing of earlier hboots and RUU's, but I haven't tested that with S-ON and you will be better off in the long run getting S-OFF. Then you can flash any RUU or hboot you want.

1.53 hboot is latest on gsm but it has issues with viper3d. 1.49 is the best hboot for you. make sure you wipe data/cache/dalvik cache before installing. if s-on you need to turn on smartflash in 4EXT
As you mention you have 1.49 hboot so i'll just confirm, did you update to latest firmware? you need s-off for that

Then I wiped all caches and reinstalled Viper3D (kernel Ziggy471).
Reboot and... IT WORKS !!! ))
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP !!!
Could you explain to me in a few words what is smartflash in 4EXT and the difference between Ziggy471 and Anthrax Kernels ?
Smartflash is used on s-on devices to flash the boot.img otherwise you would need to manually do that in fastboot.
you are s-off so you dont need that option turned on.
for differences between kernels refer to their changelogs. Anthrax is quite feature rich, not so sure about ziggy.
btw Anthrax is banned on xda so refrain from asking questions about it
Try Buttered Toast. its based on anthrax and is gpl compliant

Thanks for this explanations. Very kind !
Sorry for Anthrax, I didn't know.
I tried the both kernels, installed by the Aroma installer from Viper3D. But with both of them I can't use the Wifi. Not working (
Do you have an idea on how to fix it ?
Do you think that if I install the Buttered Toast kernel it can fix this problem ? If yes, how do I install it ? Do I need to flash it trough bootlaoder ? Then reinstall Viper3D or not (reinstall will ask me to choose beetween Ziggy and Anthrax kernels again) ?
you mean the kernels were already present in Viper3D installer? if so then download anthrax(or buttered toast) kernel and install it from recovery after wiping Cache+dalvik. should solve wifi issue

Yes, during the installation of Viper3D, the Aroma installer ask to choose between Anthrax, Ziggy or stock kernels. If I choose Anthrax one, I have to answer some questions about overclocking and other things (but nothing about wifi). I I choose Ziggy one, all is done automatically, nothing to answer. I didn't try the stock one.
I'll try the Buttered Toast kernel now and I'll let you know...
in case it doesnt work do this:
use flash image GUI to flash a non-aroma kernel like yoda's v10.1
then flash whichever (aroma)kernel you want from recovery.

Check for your specific carrier's RUU here. You also need to install htc drivers for the pc to see your phone.
Iv'e downloaded (and installed) both the drivers and the RUU, but every time i go to launch it, it comes up with the phone not found.
any suggestions?
Edit: Iv'e got it to recognize the device but now its saying "The ROM Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again"
This is the correct utility though?

Yeah, it's for the Vodafone carrier so i downloaded the corresponding RUU, i also made sure its the "ShooterU" one too, i'm at a loss again haha.
with your hboot you'll need an ICS RUU. unfortunately there isnt one for vodafone. your best bet would be to flash 4EXT recovery, turn on smartflash and then install a rom that can boot on 1.53 hboot (I'd recommend Yoda ICS as its known to boot on 1.53 s-on)
yeah.. as I said from previous post if youre having a hard time with Ruu exes. flash a sense 3.6 rom or Gb rom. it should work.

Hey thanks for the reply, the whole idea behind 4ext was to work around S-OFF!!. I've recovered from previous situation and running Negalite Blurom on hboot 1.58, which I've read also runs on hboot 1.49, I'm wondering if pac man ROM will do the the same??...... Thanks. Thanks for getting back to me bro.

PAC man needs 1.50 or lower
As far I know there is no way to flash anything other than ICS roms with s on.
The wire trick is not hard at all, if you flashed 4ext, you will be able to do it...
It may take a couple attempts but you'll get it

Just to clarify
Hboot 1.57 and 1.58 are for ICS
Hboot 1.50 and below will work for everything else
Some ICS ROMs will work with 1.50 and under, but there are no jb or kk ROMs that work with 1.57/1.58

coherent answers finally!!
Hey, just wanna thank you for the clarity bro.............that was such a simple, straight forward response, and it made the world of custom roms easily understandable!!! I had started to suspect that only ICS would work at my hboot, but you brought it home.........thanks again.
