I have an EVO 3D, Sprint CDMA. I can boot CM9 and AOKP just fine, but Sense 3.6 and Sense 4.0 will boot to the lockscreen on the rom and keep rebooting non-stop. Any help would be appreciated.
Are you s-on our s-off? I recommend being s-off to fix most bootlooping issues.

I'm s-on, never got around to downgrading or that other method. When I had my other 3d I could flash sense 4 with no issues though.

What recovery are you using? Is best to use 4ext and do a superwipe before installing. S-on is okay but use 4ext

whats the name of the AOKP roms that worked , and if u are on hboot 1.53.007 roms with custom kernels dont work , they should be based on custom htc ics kernel which is 3.0.16 u need to s-off to fix it , hit the thanks if i helped

I do think it is phone dependent. Some people are able to boot ICS on the 3d with 1.5 s-on and others get nothing but bootloops. Maybe your first phone was more forgiving than this one.

Just posted about mildly the same issue along with the S-OFF 'Wire Trick.' I assumed the ICS ROM's were bootlooping because of S-ON so I used the 'Wire Trick' to obtain S-OFF. I was successful with absolutely no issue, using ViperROM in the process. I'm about to try and install an ICS ROM as we speak.
EDIT: Just flashed MeanROM and it worked perfect after obtaining S-OFF and the phone claiming to be 'LOCKED.' Do the Wire Trick and you'll be fine

I think it has to be insulated, but I did read of some guy doing it in his office using a paper clip. This thread has more info.

I used a paperclip wrapped in electrical tape. Make sure you don't touch the actual clip while performing the trick. It could potentially harm your device.

Someone mentioned they bricked their device doing the trick. Maybe that's how.

The ics Roms tend to cause bootloops for most phones with s-on, so I recommend getting s-off. The easiest way is to use the wire trick.

You could downgrade your hboot, which is what I did, but that is risky too because you have to purposely soft brick your phone. HTC does not make it easy to get s-off.

coal is right the wire trick is easier to do if all youre looking for is the s-off...ive performed that just to try it and the downgrade ...both work but the ease of the wire trick is uncomparable

Thanks but it's still in alpha so ill stay away from it any others that work on s- on and I don't want to perform the wire trick i had a difficult time making it work for my amaze when I had it

Hold on, are you GSM or CDMA?
If you're GSM, when flashing an ICS ROM, you will need to manually flash the boot.img from fastboot using CMD..

I would think that the same applies for a CDMA phone.
Look at the page where you downloaded the ROM, does the dev provide you with a boot.img file? (Usually firmware file)
If so, you could probably flash it manually.

Before you Install, prepare:
2.17.651.5 ROMs need the latest firmware. See freeza's all in one firmware update if you haven't done that already. If you unlocked via the HTC method, you know the drill: you'll have to take the OTA and then re-unlock.
If you are already running an older version of MeanROM, you should be OK just flashing this ROM without a full wipe, BUT...
If you have any trouble at all, do a super wipe and then install the above firmware and this ROM
Go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.

Find this in the OP for MeanROM.
Okay I'm s-on and I've learned all the tricks for hboot 1.5. To get meanrom ics running on your 3d, you need to flash the boot.IMG through fastboot. It's the easiest way I've found. In the meanrom.zip there should be a file called boot.IMG. extract that to where your adb and fastboot drivers are. Then cd/ to the files with your adb and fastboot drivers. Next 'adb reboot boatloader' to go to fastboot. When in fastboot, type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'. then, since you have already flashed the Rom 'fastboot boot boot.img' to reboot your phone.
There are other ways to do flash the boot.img, but I prefer to use fastboot.

You can use a paperclip, however, you CANNOT do the wire trick unless you are running a stock ROM.
Must be stock Gingerbread.
And, if you plan on using a paperclip, wrap it in some kind of Tape so static electricity doesn't go from you to the phone.
Use masking tape, worked for me.

Restore the backup. It has to be stock GB.
Then you should be OK.
I'm on hboot 1.58.5858 s-off. I did.the wire trick and used the custom hboot. I tried flashing cm10 and I got a boot loop.
My question is if I change to hboot 1.4 will cm10 boot and which hboot is better?

The 1.58 hboot causes bootloops on CM Roms. You need to downgrade to 1.4 which is simple since you are s-off. It really is a good hboot as you can flash anything except the new HTC kernel.

Afaik, there are no benefits that anyone's found to running the new HTC kernel over the vm leak kernel. There are other kernels like Mac that are nice, but they run on the older hboot too.
The thing is, you can go back to 1.58 anytime you want since you are s-off.

I think the vm kernel is for sense Roms. Just run the kernel that comes with the Rom or try the Mac kernel.

Thanks man and I was just over there earlier today and I wasnt sure if I met the requirements but I just want to make sure what I am doing before I do a dangerous thing to my phone. Well I mean its not dangerous but it can damage your phone if your not careful. Cause I am still a noon at this type of stuff but when it comes flashing a Rom and mods and stuff I can do that but other then that I am still learning everyday about this stuff but sorry for the long post. I got my wifey phone that she wants rooted I have unlocked it one time n put meanrom on it n all it did would keep rebooting over n over idk what I did wrong n I had s-on instead of s-off maybe that's where I went wrong or the rom was trying to put on it was for the wrong hboot but if anyone can help me out this n if there is any jelly bean roms out yet that I can put on it n she running the newest ics from sprint

AOSP ROMs wont boot on hboot 1.4. youd have to get S-Off and downgrade. Its probably not booting cuz you didnt turn smart flash on 4ext reccovery. If you dont have the recovery install it. 4ext.net Acheiving s-off is easy. Use the wire trick.

No problem. If you want to use the latest ICS kernel that you would want to stay on 1.58. If you want AOSP ROMs then you would have to downgrade to 1.4. If you want to downgrade you are going to have to get s-off.

Just to clarify a typo, you need a non 1.58 hboot to boot aosp jb ROMs. I recommend 1.4 as Kevin does. Have you seen ramjet's easy guide to s-off?

That depends on what ROM you want to run. Some current Sense ROM's like Viper3D and Cool ICS won't boot without the 1.58 or JuopunutBear 1.58.5858 hboot installed.

Now that the official JellyBean ROM has been released to our phones, it's only a matter of time before HTC releases the kernel source, will that mean that certain problems (like External SD mount on PC) will be fixed in the AOSP ROMs?
