My Wi-Fi on my phone cuts out constantly on my phone making me miss Google talk messages and other important things like emails. It'll show that it is connected, but with zero bars. When I enter service mode (dial *#0011#) and turn off Wi-Fi power save, it works perfectly. However every time I reboot, it turns itself back on and keeps dropping connection. It's there a more permanent fix for this? Is not difficult or anything, but if I reboot and forget, I don't receive any messages until I try and use the web and realize it's not working.
Thanks,
Jason

There is nothing out yet. I'm sure one of our great devs will include it in a rom soon.

Been having this problem awhile. To get MMS to go through, I have to get my message ready, with attachment attached, Turn off WIFI, and soon at the H Icon apperars I hit send, And it goes through in 3 seconds every time. If I leave WIFI on, it will go through, but could take up to 3 hours to send and then it's hit or miss, might go through, might fail. It's been this way with every ROM I've tried. I use strictly Cognition, but have flash other ROMS to see if it made a difference, and it did not.
I have tried it both ways with fast dormancy on and off, I've tried several APN settings, I've tried different settings with the build prop that pertain to AT&Ts network settings, and nothing works, Guess I'm stuck doing it the hard way. Extra 5 seconds won't be to big of a deal since i can toggle WiFi from the pull down. Suggestions are welcome
yeah same happens here, think 3g gets turned off when wifi is on but you cant send mms thru wifi
Same thing here. Tried sending an MMS when i had wi-fi on and after 2 hours it was still pending. I cancelled it, didn't try again with wi-fi off. Guess i'll make a test to see. I'm on stock KE5 no root.
I've never experienced this - MMS sends for me just fine when I'm on wi-fi. However, I have taken to splitting my APNs - one for internet and one for MMS. This way I can disable 3g/HSPA with an app if I want to, but still send and receive MMS. That may end up helping, as it should use the MMS APN with no issues when you're on wi-fi.
I think it is normal. If I connect to a wifi router to browse and it is not connected externally to the internet, I get no connection. If your wifi is on, it will use it, even if it's dead.

I've been struggling with the same problem and I think I have the solution. I uninstalled Juice Defender which messes with my WIFI/3G connection. Once I uninstalled it - everything worked.
A MMS needs a Network/Carrier APN to get sent, why should WiFi be bothering it? !!
I agree but do you think it is a coincidence now that I have uninstalled Juice Defender? I also shrunk my maximum MMS size down which helped (but still didn't work until after Juice Defender was gone)
I still have problems with my photos being sent upside down or flipped 90 degrees ut I hear that has something to do with the way Samsung saves the meta data for photos.
Regardless, MMS should really be a straightforward phone function.
I've had an issue ever since I switched to Sprint and this phone.
Every once and a while the phone seems to loose connection to the network, but not tell me. My bars remain 3-5 and sometimes stay blue (sometimes they go gray). HOWEVER, all my Emails and Texts get backed up. They don't come through.
The first time I noticed I restarted the phone in the morning, and a ton of texts came through. Now that I've noticed I restart the radio ever so often if my phone goes a long time without any emails/texts and half the time stuff starts coming through again.
I think its the phone not the network though, any ideas?

It's not the phone. Call customer care and have them refresh your profile.

I also have the same problem. I've updated my profile several times through the system updates on the phone itself and still the same?

How do you restart the radio?

I turn airplane mode on/off. Not sure if that's really "restarting" it but it fixes it faster than restarting the phone.
If I call tech support and ask them to update it they'll know what I mean right away?
EDIT: Also, what's the deal with this? Never experienced having to update my profile when I was with Verizon.
In the settings menu there are settings to disable the data connection, etc while the phone sleeps (screen off).. Verify that you have yours set the way you want it before calling tech support

All of those types of settings are OK. No battery saving stuff. I called and the woman said she was "refreshing" something to my phone. We'll see if it works.
I have tried several of these apps (skype, GrooveIP, google callback, etc) and I have made some discoveries. In FroYo, You could not hold these calls once connected. By default, the phone would kill the data connection. In the GB update, I have found that the phone now will work for like ~1 minute with the screen off and the phone up to your ear(normal call position), but if u have the phone on speaker, then you can hold the call for however long you please.
My problem is that I have no cell coverage at my residence and VoIP is my only means of calling, and I wanna do it all from the cell phone. I have sent emails with the developers of GrooveIP since early June, and we have tried every setting and tweak and even had Cat logs and other debugs to try and fix this issue. Finally when the GB update came out, the app started working(pretty much, I'm proving this is a Phone issue not an App issue).
So my theory/question/topic I wanna ask is that, Is there anyway to maintain a data connection while in-call through WiFi? I have tried this on Data connections(3g) as well with no success further than the WiFi. Has anyone had excellent/better success with VoIP with the x2 than I have had? What are your thoughts/opinions? I would just really like for my issue/findings to be resolved. The calls now complete and work, its just nothing better than ~1 minute at the ear; however, speaker works just fine. I have had the Settings set to Screen ALWAYS on and within the apps, screen ALWAYS on.
Peperm1nt
I regularly use Skype on both 3G and WiFi, and it holds the call on both connections without problems.
I don't know what you've done.
All I kno is that its an annoyance. The call is fine for like a minute then messes up til I move the phone away from my ear n the screen returns.

Sounds like your wifi might be going to sleep. Change its wake policy to never sleep.
Settings.. wireless and networks .. wifi settings.. press menu and select Advanced... wifi sleep policy.. never... press menu and Save.
I still lose wifi connection occasionally, but still better than it going to sleep on purpose.
By the way, i have not tried it with voip.
I use groove ip and make hour long phone calls without any issues

I have to constantly toggle Wifi on and off all the time. I know it is a known issue but is it as common as mine is? Is there any fix to this? I hope it is a priority of CM7 developers cause it is making android on the touchpad pointless.
LoL, I tried to post this but guess what? Wifi off again. Here we go...

Yes everyone experiences this quite often... its why is is a known issue. Its also why so many threads on the issue exist. Its also why its in the Common issues and problems thread at the VERY top. People wouldn't have so much emphasis on it if it wasn't common.
Make sure you set your Wifi Sleep policy in Wifi advanced settings to NEVER.
The problem I am having is that I can connect to a network. Says the normal optaining ip address, then it says connected, but I have no internet connection. I do have internet connection on multiple devices running on the same network. Did I miss something in the settings for wifi? Thank you
This guy also suggests changing the hostname to something more palatable to some routers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319838
Not sure if it'll help, but I've made this change myself. We'll see...
I'm running Android without any problem with WiFi, but, I do run Regpon to keep it "alive".
It may help unless you are talking about problems with Webos!
Wifi is basically useless to me on Android. It will work for a couple minutes, crap out, say it's connected yet provide no connection, etc. I'm just going to stop worrying about it until an update is out.

I had WiFi working for a bit after first installing CM7, but after it went to sleep' I can't reconnect. I get force closes when I try editing WiFi settings. I've tried rebooting multiple times, toggling wifi on and off, airplane mode on and off, etc. It refuses to reconnect. It shows "connecting” briefly, but never actually does.
Can't do much of anything with no wifi... It was great while it lasted though.
Search is your friend people..... Known issue but there is a temp fix you need to do once and you will be fine until the next time you reboot. Leaving wifi on, press your network and tell your tp to forget it. Now turn wifi off. Turn back on, select your network, enter key and you are good to go until you reboot. Easy fix.
If wii settings is running real slow, no worries, do above steps pressing buttons only once and wait, it will catch up. If you pop up says it is not responding, click wait, it will work. Remember you only have to do this on reboots.

Thanks, but it also doesn't work for me. I had already searched, found that method (aside from already thinking of it and attempting it myself), but I get force closes every time and clicking wait doesn't help. It never allows me to click "Forget Network". It just cycles through Force Close when I try to get the menu to pop up allowing me to click on "Forget Network".
I downloaded an app called softlocker and it keeps the unit from going to sleep in all ways. I have noticed a huge improvement
We are clearly talking about 2 different problems here.
1) The known issue where WiFi is rock solid whilst using the touchpad, but if you let it go into deep sleep it will turn off and not come back until the wifi is cycled
2) This guys problem where he is randomly being disconnected whilst using his pad. I recommend getting the latest firmware update for your home router and also "temporarily" turn off all WiFi security connect your pad and see how it reacts, just to make sure this is not a security issue.
My Wifi crapped out a couple times last night. I was playing with Airplane Mode. After turning off Airplane Mode it works flawlessly again.
If it keeps searching / obtaining ip, put in the correct password.
I seem to have fixed the issue by changing my router from WPA to WEP security. Haven't dropped my connection in over 24 hours. Perfect.
Edit: 48 hours now, never dropped wifi.
I haven't noticed anyone talking about it lately. Has everyone just accepted it or is there a fix that I've missed? Mine still does it at my house.
Once or twice a week I notice my wifi and Bluetooth both drop off at the same time. They come back in a bit so it's really not a big deal for me.

Yes WiFi and 3g disconnects.
I'm still getting them pretty often actually.
Often here also. To often imo

Cool thanks for replying guys. It happens so often at my house that it really makes it difficult to get much done. I would just use 3G, but lord have mercy is it slow. I'm assuming HTC will fix it in a software update, right? Right? Right? lol
It use to happen to me all the time until I changed the frequency band settings from "Auto" to "2.4GHz only"
Edit: it doesn't drop if I set it to "5GHz only" also
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Yeah i've tried that trick but it still disconnects like crazy. The weird part for me is that it only happens at my house with my router. So maybe it's disagreeing with my router for some reason. But I've had 4 different phones, a laptop, and my wife's iPhone all connect to the home WiFi with no problems and no disconnects.
Hmmm, hadn't thought about the frequency setting; I'll try that and let you know if it works for me. Might be one of those "your mileage may vary tricks"
Possible Fix
I was also having issues with WiFi disconnecting. (Not often) My main issue is that I wouldnt receive notifications from apps while on WiFi and screen was off for more that 45mins putting the phone into "sleep" mode (GTalk, Gmail, Facebook, etc) unless I turned on the screen. I installed this app from the Play Store "Hidden Settings" Dev. Derek R Reynolds which puts a "Power Saver Settings" app in the app drawer. It gives you access to a hidden menu that you can't normally get to. While in the App I unchecked "Put Data Connection to sleep" and that has resloved my issues. I haven't seen the WiFi get disconnected and I am receiving my notifications like normal. I have only had this solution for 1 day so I will report back if there are any other changes.
My Phone not Rooted.
I do not take credit for this possible solution. All creadit goes to the Dev's that figured this out. I simply read about it on another thread..
