Is Rom Manager now defunct and is the Odin application replacing it? I have been away for a long while I just switched from Droid X2 (MB870) to the Sammy SGIII SGH-i747 and am loving it! Is koush still overseeing Rom Manager?
I'm kinda new to this but it sounds like odin is a samsung thing. Something about a leaked carrier software I think.

i have rom manager, built my rom, and downloaded it. where does rom manager put it and how do i install via cwm
You may want to do some more reading. With all due respect, if someone took the time to write up how to you might not get it. The how to's in the dev section break it down reallly simply. Im "new" to this stuff and have rooted and flashed multiple phones and roms by FOLLOWING the directions exactly. Never even used rom manager. I used oneclick root method, latest cwm not 3.0, and am enjoying jt's vanilla aosp w nextheme

Hello, I own a Fascinate and I am currently helping a friend with his Vibrant because I bricked his intercept, I don't want to make the same mistake again. I highly recommended to him that he get the vibrant instead of an iPhone 3GS because I honestly think it's a MUCH better device. But now I have a few questions.
I know that you all also use Odin to flash tar files onto the phone but wanted to know what I needed to start with?
I already know how to root the phone and how to get into recovery mode as those two things are similar to the Fascinate, however one thing I noticed is that this phone is basically to a i9000 what a Fascinate is to a Mesmerize. That being the case, there is ALOT more ROMs for the Vibrant than there are for the Fascinate. So I wanted to know a few things.
What is the best vodoo kernel (newest) that isn't overclocked and is at stock voltage?
What is the most popular ROM?
Are the radio/modem files also tar files that you flash through odin or are they zip files you install through recovery?
Should I unlock the phone before or after flashing any of this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
A good place to get these answer is the stickies in the dev section. The one labled when in Rome is a good jump off point. You'll find supercurios stock voodoo kernels there. He's posted both tar and zip varieties. Most kernels here will be zip flashable. There is an app called sgs kernel flasher that can use both zip and tar.
Best Tom is a matter of opinion but most follow EDT, Eugene and Team Whiskey. I prefer my simply galaxy/honey series but I'm biased.
EDIT: most modems are zip here. KB5 modem seems best right now but other factors play into that such as your location.
Overstock kernels are also good.

I just got my Samsung Fascinate today and got it rooted. I am currently running Community Rom 2.0 and want to install a new theme but am not sure how. I'm guessing you flash them just like you would a new rom? I'd rather not just go in trying things without knowing though and screwing up my new phone.
I've been using Miui on my Droid 1 up till this point and installing themes was extremely easy on that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
It's exactly like flashing a ROM. Select the zip in clockworkmod and flash. Just make sure it's made for your ROM.

I love my fascinate. But there are some minor things I can't stand about the phone, mainly in how limited some options are and inability to remove some stock apps.
I tried a custom rom before, frakenclean I think, and while I loved the options it gave me I could not stand the way the phone would crash. The phone crashed almost daily. So I went back to the stock rom.
I miss the option to turn the 3g on and off, not having the Is there a reliable/stable rom that won't crash on me?
Custom roms have never had issues for me, you might have gotten a bad build. You should try out the gingerbread roms, they have the best performance and awesomeness you can get for our phones. If you want to stay on froyo try powerwashed or comrom.

Hi SageDieu,
I currently have a Telus Fascinate (SGH-T959D) which is running Stock Gingerbread + Rooted.
I'm wondering if you could point me in the right direction to where I can find custom gingerbread ROMs for my phone.
I have yet to feel comfortable with some of the ROM's I've looked at here in the forums.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
The only rom thats not on xda is tsm pool party. You can find that on rootzwiki. Anyway imo powerwashed ed05 and com rom are the 2 most reliable roms. The gb roms still have a few minor issues, but most things have been fixed. I will be jumping over to pwgb soon as a voodoo kernal is released.

Thanks for the info. I took a look over at the 'rootzwiki' forum and I didn't see much that really indicates custom ROMS will work with my Fascinate.
Has anyone here that has a Telus Fascinate (SGH-T959D) running Stock Gingerbread updated there ROM or Kernel yet?
I would really like to get CWM back on my phone

I don't think there has ever been a custom rom created specifically using a Telus Fascinate rom as a base. Just custom kernels.
I'm currently running Darky's Rom 10.2 RE , flashable directly via odin/heimdall
It's GT-i9000 based Gingerbread 2.3.4 with some tweaks and it's own custom kernel. You get to choose from stock Gingerbread launcher or Touchwiz 4.5 (launcher from SGS II with some tweaks).
You need to do some tweaking to get your home/back button fixed, but I find its insignificant to the benefits of running a (i9000-based) custom rom. I've never had the phone crash on me from normal use, so I consider it very stable.
I think the OP and others are talking about the Verizon Fascinate which is completely different from our Telus Fascinate. There has been confusion in the past which resulted in bricked phones so please be careful when talking about custom roms for "Fascinate"

Crap I looked over the fact your telus... I have not seen any rom development for you. Take a peek at the dark'y rom that Japots suggested.

How do you fix these buttons? I am having issues with the buttons on miui and am unable to fix the home and search buttons.

Refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004314
Basically, you need to mopdi melfas_touchkey.kl (may be different in MUIU) file in /system/usr/keylayout/ to assign the proper function (ie, HOME, SEARCH) to the proper button key.
The thread has a flashable zip, but I'd recommend using a root-capable file explorer (like Root Explorer [padi] or ES File Manager [free]) to edit the file.
I find custom roms very reliable. Sometime more reliable then stock roms.
Galaxy players do not show up in the list of devices in rom manager. Anybody know if I can choose a different, or close enough phone model so that I can flash cwm touch recovery? Afraid to try, cause this has brick written all over it!
I've only known of getting recovery through a kernel or rom on this device.

uhh... i would recommend you to not to download anything and install from Rom Manager. It will be soft-bricked for sure and maybe hard-bricked.
Samsung Galaxy S is the closest model to SGP5.0 but i can guarantee you that it will not work when you install gt-i9000 kernel by Rom Manager.
Personally, I don't really see the use of Rom Manager on YP-G70 because i'm not a dev and i don't flash roms as often as i used to before.
Just use Entropy's or Rumirand's kernel for CWM recovery.
That's what I figured. No touch recovery for me! Oh well.

People could make touch recovery easily just people don't like it because it's easy to make mistakes.

I'm a crack flasher, can't live without it on my galaxy S3. Would love it on my gp5.0. Touch is not for ameatures, so the mistake aspect of it is irrelevant.

No, guaranteed brickage.
The reason is that instead of having a kernel and ramdisk for recovery and another for normal booting, the sgp has just one for both, and it checks for a file to tell it to enter recovery. So using rom manager will not only break recovery, but normal booting too.
That's good stuff there my friend
