I have a Sprint 4G LTE phone that a user dropped and shattered the screen. Now the screen doesn't display anything. The user contacts and text messages need to be extracted from this phone
As a preface; its a stock phone and USB debugging is not enabled (tried ADB and can't enumerate). Tried DroidExplorer and cannot see the device either.
I've already grabbed the files from SD card
How do I go into the phone memory and grab other files?
is there any other way to look at the content on the phone?
Sprint support is ofcourse useless and they cannot provide any further support
any guidance is much appreciated

well first of all, i will ask are you certain the device is even turning itself on? if nothing is being displayed, how do you know it is powering up? could be more than a busted screen, basically....
I would say hook it up to your t.v via a mhl cable

My display went out on my EVO LTE over the weekend, everything on the phone still works including the touch (can't see what I'm touching). I have a new phone on order, but would like to be able to retrieve my SMS/MMS, is there anyway I can do that? My phone is not rooted.
Thanks
Mike

When you plug the phone into a computer it connects as an installer so you can install the driver and Verizon stuff. Where can I find those files to delete them? I'd like for my phone to automatically connect as MTP for file transfer without having to pull down the notification on the phone can change it.
+1 for this. Is really irritating

I disabled all verizon apps minus the mobile hotspot and now it automatically connects the storage to my computer. I never saw anything about verizon when plugging it in, but I disabled it all first.
I've got everything disabled too and still does it so idk

Try enabling developer options and then tick on usb debugging .

I just noticed that at first a drive that says "verizon mobile" shows up in my computer, then it goes away on its own and the media drive comes up after. Takes maybe 15 seconds or so before the media drive appears. I'll look into disabling the verizon mobile part, but at least it doesn't pop up with anything on the desktop (for me at least) and goes automatically goes away for some reason.
It does go to mtp if you wait long enough. I guess I was never that patient. It would still be much better if it would just go straight to it.
Same problem on osx here, and thing is there's not even an installer for osx. All it has in there are dll and exe. Can find any solution to permanently disable it yet. Tried disable all vz stuff and didn't work for me here.
I just had this problem a half hour ago I wanted to transfer music it ended up being the off brand usb cable I was using s soon as I connected the oem one and check the mtp box it connected and I can transfer files

I'd like the option for the phone to default to charge-only, so that damn windows popup doesn't come up anymore. I get the CD drive verizon mobile first. Then when I close that, it comes up with the SCH-I605, and I have to close that too.
My car deck can read music from thumb drives and would charge my last phone and play music from it at the same time. Deck doesn't get anything from note and note says connected as installer.
I'm rooted, usb debugging on, most Verizon bloat gone.

Does anyone have an update to this?
I want to stop the annoying popups.
Thanks.
Run a custom kernel.
Problem solved
You could also turn off auto run in windows. It is a lot safer anyway (For those of us that plug in something where we don't know where it's been.)

It doesn't address the issue. It just hides the iso popup. It will still go to connected as an installer for 15-20 seconds, before your storage is available.

Flash aosp rom. Always in mtp mode.
I know this is old thread but if rooted you can rename system/etc/autorun.iso to system/etc/autorun.bak to keep the Verizon stuff from popping up when plugging in to computer. Still haven't found a way to skip installer mode though.
it's another one of verizons stupid things.
i have a sprint note 2 also, it goes straight to MTP. No sprint installer at all.
Hello,
I just upgraded from a Samsung Vibrant to a Samsung Galaxy s2. The phone is used but is stil in excellent working condition - so it seems.
I have been trying to transfer my old SMS, contacts, etc to the s2, and I have backed them up onto a xml file via the Super Backup app. However, it seems virtually impossible to get the xml file onto the s2 because the USB is not connecting the phone to my MacBook pro. When I plug it in, the phone charges, but nothing else happens. Nothing comes up on the drop down menu, and there are no USB options in the settings. There is no "Applications" menu, and no "USB Utilities" under Wireless & Network. The phone came with '4.1.2 jzo54k' if that helps at all. The phone does not show up as a device on my Macbook either. I have tried different ports, different cables, nothing. When I plug in my Vibrant which is running 2.2, the laptop recognizes it. Keis also doesn't recognize it.
Any advice on how to restore my USB functionality or how to transfer texts and contacts without it is greatly appreciated!!! Please let me know if I need to provide any additional info.

First off are you sure you have the i777?

You probably want to return to stock. Since you are using a Mac you need to use heimdall. Here is a link to the post.

Would I be able to do that without the USB? Because as it is, I can't transfer files or anything of the sort
I believe heimdall will take care of that. It does on a Windows system. I'm not sure about a Mac

I am trying to backup my wife's unrooted rezound's sd card, before rooting her phone, but when i connect her phone to the pc i cannot see usb storage but if I go into adb it will recognize the phone. I have reinstalled drivers, toggled usb debugging, etc. All to no avail.
My rooted rezound shows up without incident.
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Okay, the obvious question is is the phone in Disk Drive mode. Since you have another Rezound that connects fine I assume you have checked this but doesn't hurt to ask. Yours might be in Disk Drive by default where as hers may be in Charge Only by default.

Thanks, yeah, it's in disk mode. I've even toggled between disk and charge as well as the usb debugging on off, and rebooted the phone and pc, and tried different usb ports.... I'm stumpped.

I forgot to mention, her phone does show up in htc sync, if i let that run. It just does not show as a usb storage device. When sync is off.

trying to move some tunes onto my phone, it isn't giving me the "Choose Connection Type" dialog when I plug in a USB cable, and the computer isn't recognizing it as a drive -- it charges, and that's it. I'm sure I'm just missing a setting somewhere, but I sure can't find it anywhere. What am I missing?
Phone is stock, unrooted. Thanks in advance.

If you have more than one USB port, try it on a different one. The USB ports on one side of my laptop only charge for some reason, but the other side works fine. Also make sure that you have the most recent drivers installed.

Change to a stock based ROM.

If you're on cn10.1-based ROM, you need to go into settings, storage, click menu and choose computer USB connection and select MTP.

I'm not rooted, just using the regular, out of the box ROM, software version 3.16.651.3 71ORD.
Had this issue, wouldnt come up on computer and phone didnt show any USB options MTP or Storage device, rebooted computer and phone and that didnt help it. I ended up switching ROMs and that worked for me I was using stocked with goodies and switched to ViperROM 4G 3.16 and now it works....
Its common for the USB Ports on these phones to go bad.

Update: turns out it was evidently a hardware issue. New phone on the way. Kind of a pain in the tail, but at least I know I wasn't just missing something silly.
