How do I create a CWM flashable zip? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks!
Just a quick question; Is there any software(for either phone or PC), that is able to create signed zip files that can be flashed through CWM?
I'm tired of always flashing modem, boot animation and kernel individually after I flash a rom. Now I thought it would be faster if I just created an all in one package that contains all of them. I could also put Titanium and ES Explorer in there.
Thanks!
Edit, and if possible, delete the file cameraclick.ogg in /system/media/sounds/UI/

[Q] Removing 2.2 without wrecking my phone

Hey guys so I haven't been following much lately due to exams. But I just found out Recovery was released for X10 and want to install it.
So I just wanted to know how I could safely remove 2.2 from my phone. I remember some guy deleting the folder off his sdcard and wrecking his phone. How do I avoid it?

Just do a clean install of whichever ROM you want using flash tool then install recovery mode onto that.

what u need to do mate is fairly simple. you need to delete a file and a folder.
boot into 2.1, open root explorer and make sure you are in R/W mode.
delete the chargemon file from /system/bin and delete the /sdcard/freeX10 folder
the freex10 folder contains all the data files for the 2.2 rom
the chargemon file contains the boot hijack that allows you to multi-boot. without this file (if you delete it all together like i am suggesting) the phone will simply boot into 2.1
once you have booted back into 2.1, you can setup the recovery menu
hope that helps mate, and thanks for not posting in the Dev thread!!!

[Q] new to android (help)

hi im new to android phones
last week i got galaxy s2
now i found some great apps byt when i downloaded them i didnt found .apk app
instead i found few folders and files and i dont know how to instal them
should i root my galaxy?
Form where did you download them.. try using market app or download from apktop.com or android-market.co .. Also do you have System/app/ and META-INF folders in a zip file. If so you will have to install it in recovery by using install zip from sdcard option..

what app are you referring to?
if its a flash zip you need a custom recovery such as CWM or Amon Ra
there is no specific app ( i downloaded many app that was non an .apk)
yes its a flash zip
cmw comes after rooting?
thanks for your patience but im new to the world of android
So, flash cwm recovery and try to install from there.. if you flash cwm recovery you can even backup and restore your rom...
you need to root first before you can install a custom recovery.
usually system apps get install via flash zip. you sure the apk is not zipped up? sometimes you need to in zip to get the apk.
thank you all for your replies
the apps im talking about like app monster or other app that need a root
is there a safe way to root the galaxy s2 without changing the rom or the kernel
ie. i just want to be able to flash zip files ( cracked app)
and stay on my rom and kernel
and will i be able to receive apdates for the kies???
TO root s2 please visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Sometime there will be .apk file directly inside zip file (this is done to reduce size of app) you should not try to install them from recovery only install zip file from recovery having sytem and Meta-inf folder inside the zip file.
Yes you will be able to receive updates via kies unless you don't flash a custom kernel...
thank you all
Hi! I just got my first Android Phone.
The HTC Inspire.
I've been told I could speed up this phone but I'm also curious to know what else I could do with it?
I used to have an iPhone and I would just change the theme and stuff...
So, I suppose my question(s) is/are;
1. How can I speed up my phone?
2. What can I do with my phone?
3. Is there a site where I can browse custom themes for my phone?
4. how do I add custom ringtones/ringback
thanks for taking the time for reading this.

To speed up your phone try v6 supercharger. Search xda forum and you will get there ..
You can do a lot of things with your phone like rooting it to make changes to system as well a ls access hidden system files and also to install app like app monster, titanium backup that are very handy ..
Not only this you can even flash/install custom Rom/kernel that are much better and optimized than stock one provided by HTC..
For more details Google root your phone model and custom kernels for your phone model ..
To get themes and more info foe your phone try to find your phone sub forum in xda forum or just Google .. to set custom ringtones you can select set as ringtone on your music player it copy ogg file to /system/media/audio (for which you need to root and use root explorer or similar app) and then go to settings.and choose your copies file..

What is App Monster? "flash/install custom Rom/kernel" ??
I'll try and find my phone in the sub-fourms
App Monster is an application that lets you manage your installed applications. For example you can backup apps and batch restore them.

Pack a custom rom

Hi, I want to create my own custom rom, I've finish them, but I've a problem.
I don't know how to pack all the files in a flashable zip, I've make a zip with 7-zip but when I try to install it, recovery say "Installation Aborted".
Someone can explain to me how to create the zip? I've an good experience on android but I haven't already create a flashable zip...
Thanks!
Would not have a clue my friend but by reading the following threads your best bet is to go to the following links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227549
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133846
Have a look at those links and those are the best options you have to create your own rom. Enjoy
It is possible to make a simple tutorial for me, I'm french and that's too hard to understand for me. I just need to pack in a zip file flashable. Thanks you .
Wouldn't there need to be a script to tell CW what to do with the files in the package/how to install them, etc ?
I wouldn't have a clue how to do this BTW, I'm just thinking logically around what I know about the way CW works so far as installing roms/kernels goes.

still check those links i gave you above. there must be a solution or guide to tell you how to pack a rom once you are finished putting everything together.my guess is that you do need an updater script and updater binary script something like that..check on those two links and have a look..or zip the rom using powerarchiver if you are on windows
just head over to http://perka.zapto.org and look for a empty system cwm.
Now you just have to make folders in this zip and add your files. example you want framework-res.apk and systemui.apk flashed.
So open the cwm zip and add a folders called app and a folder called framework.
The zip will be/system and so with the folders it creates /system/framework/framework-res.apk and system/app/SystemUI.apk.
You can just take the signatures from the zip and add them in your future zips or just keep copying this one.
The update script shows the screens on install so change text in there and it will show on install.
Or there is a guide to Edify Scripting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265120

Flashable Zip to tar.md5

Hi.. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to convert flashable zip files to Odin tar.md5 files !!!!
I hav searched and read some related threads but none of them gave a conclusive answer for the question. Some explained how to convert .img files to tar files & some explained creating tar files by using 7zip (actually 7zip only create a file with .tar extension) but my question is how to convert zip files which don't have image files like for example if i wanted to flash some apps ported from other devices (camera, gallery, keyboard etc...) and i don't want to flash them through Recovery (I don't hav one) then HOW???
Technically speaking, you'd need to create an image of the partition containing content from your .zip folder (with proper permissions and stuff created by updater-script) and then you should pack it as system.img into .tar.md5 file.
The questions is WHY you want to do this, it's NOT common and there's absolutely no point in doing that.
Question is why no recovery

Well, consider installing a corresponding CWM :good:

I don't want to install a Recovery as it increases Binary count every time v boot the device. I personally don't like to increase my count. Every time i enter into Recovery to flash a zip file it will trigger the count. I know Triangle away can make the count zero but then i have to use it every time after using Recovery & I don't want to go through all that hassle.
Why i don't like an increase in count.... It's more like OCD
So, is there any easy n simple method to convert files !!! Am not much of a Android student. It's like am at Kindergarten level at Android University

Already done above.
Easier solution is mobile odin, although it can't flash all zips.

Disabling secure boot

firstly i request all moderators of xda in grand 2 forum,
as i am unable to post on developement section,
i am posting the thread here..
plz move it to developement section.
ok now back to topic,
try at your own risk!
i will not be responsible if anything happens to your phone
To all the users who have succesfully rooted grand 2,
there can be a way to install (flash) recovery on your phone!
i was exploring the system and i found a file in "/system" folder
called "recovery-from-boot.p"
i THINK this is the file that causes problem!
you may delete it or rename it...(renaming is safer)
once you delete it, you may flash custom recovery via ODIN
and even if the recovery gets currupted or if you cant boot into recovery, you can simply boot normally and restore the renamed or deleted file!!!
and then once again you may try to flash custom recovery from ODIN (as stock gets deleted as soon as you modify recovery-from-boot.p file)
press thanks if this post helped!

the file which i uploaded up there is taken from MY PHONE ITSELF i.e galaxy GRAND 2..

Same with me... none of them named exactly like you mention above.

it only appears on a Stock UN-ROOTED firmware..
In order to inject custom CWM there isnt a necessity to root device.
so firstly we need to remove file that I mentioned in my previous post and inject recovery.
and via that recovery,
we can flash a custom kernel that automatically roots device!

Dude, if the FILE just appears in STOCK UNROOTED FIRMWARE , so how can we delete that.
Coz, to delete a /system file, we need ROOT access.
NOT POSSIBLE.
And in rooted version, the FILE is not available :victory:

Thank you for replying.
I know that it can't be deleted,
but one may understand the importance of that ".p" file and understand its working, as it plays a vital role in booting up recovery...
the only thing I wanna let users understand is that,
stock recovery includes that file and
it got deleted when rooted because the rooting package (eg. CF root) didnt contain the .p file
when I studied that strange file,
it consisted of mapping and accurate memory address as well as accurate size of stock recovery image in bytes,
so that whn new recovery gets flashed, it verifies with the .p file!
and talking abt modifying the .p file,
we must create a custom linux binary with zerglings and packed into .tar file which gets flashed to phone via Odin!
for build creation you can use this tool..
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/comprehensive-guide-to-the-android-build-process/?__utma=60652090.747738090.1398670920.1400078979.1400132113.21&__utmb=60652090.0.10.1400132113&__utmc=60652090&__utmx=-&__utmz=60652090.1400132113.21.12.utmcsr=google|utmccn=%28organic%29|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=%28not%20provided%29&__utmv=-&__utmk=163283131
So I found the reason behind this
It is a file used by Software Update Application to flash updates.
If you want proof go-to the data folder of the SOFTWARE UPDATER and there will be a 3mb file. Copy it to pc and open using winrar. You can see many files including boot.img.
So the author of this thread was about to update his/her phone when he found the file
SO MYSTERY SOLVED
SCOOBY DOOBY DOOO
Sent from my SM-G7102
i didnt't get what you are on to...
i noticed that the Update Package (i.e the OTA) easily jumps over all the restrictions imposed by Bootloader(locked one) and gets easily flashed to the phone...
therefore the whole matter is now pointing out to the 'ro.build.fingerprint' as well as Verification of MD5 hashes linked directly to Flashing InstructionSet
