Yeah, I use the wifi hotspot feature all the time with this rom and have no issues whatsoever.

Works for me. Occasionally turns itself off when I try to turn it on, but a quick reboot fixes that.

Same for me. Not sure why it turns itself off as there's no rhyme or reason to it but like you said, a reboot always fixes it.
Wifi yes, USB and Bluetooth no.
well i wonder why my usb tethering or wifi hotspot wont work

I'm using WiFi Tether 3.1 beta 6
Download the Data Enabler widget from the Market
Setup Wifi Tether as Nexus One, netd, mms clamping enabled
Use Data Enabler to shut off 3g
Start tethering
once tethering is started, enable 4g
You should have a consistent 4G signal and the benefits of infrastructure mode!
Has anyone tried this and gotten it to work? Im completely functional except my phone reboots once every 2 hrs or so...
I have 3 questions about wireless tether. Currently have it set up in infrastructure mode, and it is working great. I have wake lock on, not disabled because if the screen went to sleep, the connection would drop.
Wifi Tether profile is set up as Nexus One, netd enabled.
Here are my 3 questions.
1. When I enable wifi tether, the sprint tether icon appears in the taskbar. The software works, and I tether fine, but am I now registering tethering with the sprint network?
2. I do not have mms clamping enabled, What does it do, and should I have it enabled?
3. What does the enable routing fix option do?
This is working for me as well
Thanks!!
Sounds good, I look forward to testing this once I receive my Photon.
We have a similar fix like this for the Epic4G in that forum, but it's much more complicated and involves editing the framework.jar of the ROM.
Since 99% of tethering apps are filtered on the market for our phones, thanks to Sprint, a post to the file or an attachment of it would probably benefit the users of it in a greater capacity.
By the way folks, even though he isn't the creator of this workaround, the OP usually deserves a little thanks...
Worked for me in 3g. Very fast. I also get the tethering or mobile hotspot active (sprint mobile hotspot) but I just ignore it.
BTW, how is battery for most while plugged into the computer usb for charging while tethering. Mine can't keep up with the drain from the phone.

Yes. In order to use any tethering app, except the stock one, you need to be rooted.

Nope. you can use PDA-Net to tether an Non-Rooted phone via USB.
Woah! Awesome. Is PDA-Net an App or pls explain?
EDIT: NVM, found it. Can't believe the Market would allow such an App... thanks guys!!
Im using 3.0. I installed it. Then installed data enabler widget. Turned off 3g started 4g. Switched tether to nexus one/netd. Started tether. Should have error. Restarted tether. 4g infrastructure, Worked great. Figured it out this morning. No sprint popup in status bar either. Running netflix great through ps3.

Glad to see it's working for others as well! Sorry for not posting links. You can get WiFi Tether here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
There's a new version just released on 11/27/11, im gonna test it and see if it changes behavior in any way.
Data Enabler you can easily get from the market.
My phone still reboots every 2 or 3 hrs while tethering in infrastructure mode, not sure how to fix that

No, nowhere near as hot as my Evo used to get when i tethered it...
Mine reboots randomly too but its not a big deal.

My first reboot ever was with wifi tether. I've always used open garden before but it only supports ad hoc and never had a random reboot. I think it might be the app.

This should still work for you, just dont turn on 4G and keep 3G on...then use WiFi Tether with the indicated settings...
For some reason I am unable to connect to my home WiFi network. It acts as if it is about to connect by saying authenticating and then stops and does not connect act all. Then after if I try to connect to the network again it says "Failed to connect to network". I have noticed this has happened to me before when I flashed the Viper ROM so I just went back to stock. I do not know why this issue is occurring.
Try fixing permissions in recovery. This appeared to work for me.
Something else to check is the setting called "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep": System Settings --> WiFi --> Menu --> Advanced. Try a different setting and see whether that works.

I too have been having Wifi connection issues. I was on Viper with no issues. I was trying Carbon and thats when it started. I tried crpalmers kernel with no luck. I was trying to follow his instructions to check for modules but it seems to be over my head. I dont have much experance with adb. The last time I flashed the kernel i wiped cache and dalvik before and after and fixed permissions.
Thanks

Yup, I'm a moonshiner. I just read that CM 10 ROMs aren't liking WEP. And to change it to WPA2. Going to try that here in a few minutes.

That was it changing the router security to wpa2. Hooked right up.

WPA2 on both home and work routers. That's not the issue for me. It seems that when I try to connect manually, it fails. When Android connects by itself, it usually succeeds.
wep has no security if you want wep to work change router to wpa/wpa2 then connect then go back to wep and then you weill be able to connect at starbucks or mcdonalds whileiing eatting or drinking your self high as hell

Wait so are you saying I change my router to WPA/WPA2, connect, and then change back to WEP and it will work?
Side note, will all of my devices still connect without having to reenter everything if I keep the WEP password the same?

Crap! I thought I had it. I finally got wifi tether for Android to load without throwing any errors. My laptop couldn't see the wireless network thought
Wow me too my laptop did not read. It niether.
Hello, I've successfully installed safestrap on my BL-locked MJ9 Verizon Note 2.
I've tried the two SS roms that are available, but neither of them seems to have working WiFi tethering (no provision hack).
When I try to turn on wireless AP, it ssays: "no sim card detected, please insert a sim card". 4G works fine though
Any thoughts?
Did you try installing a free tethering app like foxfi or pdanet and trying those out? If the ROMs you tried don't natively have wifi tethering this may be your only solution. Which ROMs are you using, if I may ask?

Thanks for your reply!
I've tried foxfi on my stock 4.3 (it didn't work) PDAnet works only with usb.
As for the SS roms, i've tried: Reborn -RC2.51-optional[SafeStrap][ & ][MJ9][Safestrap] Mediocre ROM v1.0

Sorry I haven't responded, long story short my computer and xda wouldn't cooperate.
Hmmm... Looking through those roms, Wifi tethering isn't natively on them, and oddly enough FoxFi doesn't work for you?
Also, Wifi tethering is usually done with USB to a computer, usually with specific software for the app, but can also be done with Bluetooth or LAN connections.
I suggest you simply stick to Wifi tethering through USB to your computer, unless you'd prefer to set up a LAN or bluetooth connection. Otherwise, stick to regular old wifi.
Cheers mate.

I'm on the Infinity ROM and looking to use my phone as a wifi adapter. I used to be able to just disable Mobile Data and turn on usb tethering but this ROM seems to automatically turn off wifi when I turn on tethering. Is there any way to get around this? I'd like to at least get to use it to tether if not as a native adapter(connect to wifi from computer instead of setting it up on phone).
..

Not using your particular ROM. Nor will the majority of people reading this thread. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to ask in the support thread for that custom ROM?
Alternately, what you are trying to do is usually referred to as reverse tethering.
So look in the Play store for reverse tethering apps e.g. this or this.

The OP prolly can't post in development threads due to post count.
And what they want is NOT reverse tethering. Reverse tethering is using the computer internet on the phone. Meaning, the phone does not have a data connection or a wifi connection and wants to obtain internet through the USB port (meaning computer)
What the OP described is the proper way to tether the WiFi connection of the phone to the computer. Not sure why its turning off his WiFi.
OP, if you turn on USB tethering and disable data, then turn on wifi, what happens?

Otherwise do you have any ROMs to recommend that have wifi tethering available?
