Why is it that when I open the music player via the widget, I cannot access my music folders ie artists / albums, am I missing something?
Nope. You're spot on. I can't either. But there is a way around this. I press the music square button (somewhere near the bottom right of the screen) and then it goes to the music square tab, but you can access the others as well. Give it a try.

I hate how I have to do that!
I had deleted the music square option as I don't use it. Seems I have to re-anble it as a work round until Samsung fix it.

Hi all,
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here but I was flicking through some of the sample tracks that came with my Hero and then I clicked on one to make it play. Now I cannot get back to the screen where you can flick left and right through the cover-art of the tracks; I can only see the lists of albums/artists etc, not the iphone like cover-flo...
Help!
S.
There is a button in the bottom right corner while the track is playing and the music app is open to switch between cover flow and list view.
Thanks but that doesn't help. I can get the view up so that an album is displayed on the screen, but it says 1 of 1 and I cannot scroll left or rigt to other albums no matter what I do.
How frustrating, I don't get what's happened here? What could have changed?
Lol, can someone please assist, I just know the solution is right under my nose...
Not sure its the same problem but I couldnt search by cover flow either so I tried a few things
I rarely browse by artist and pick the first artist - I have found that this option gave me back the cover flow to scroll across all the albums for all artists
Strangely, album browse only gives the list view as do all the others - hope this helps a little

Go to the music app, use the bottom left button to go to music selection. Select the albums tab (second tab). Menu -> Play all. It will enqueue all your albums and you can now flick through them in a coverflow style in the main music app.
Awesome! Thanks for that. I appreciate I may seem a little stupid for not realising that's what I had to do, but come on - hardly intuitive now is it?
I agree, had the same problem for a while.
If you start the music player you'll have a listing of your library based on artists, albums, music square, etc.
As soon as you start playing music the only way I've found to get back to that screen is to tap on the music square icon (which then takes you to the music square tab in the library view). However, if you disable the music square in the settings this button disappears and I haven't found a way yet to get back to the library screen except for enabling the square again...
That's somehow really weird or am I missing something?
Try the button in the bottom right corner

That button takes me to the current playlist, not the media library. Pushing the top right 'back' button takes me back to the player and not to the media library as I would expect.

are you playing the music thru the music widget? if yes, you will need to go into music player by go thru your app drawer. then press the back button until you get the 'all' playlist which allow you to choose sort by artist or album ...

Hi,
I installed Winamp Pro on my Galaxy S3 (running 4.0.4), but when I try and use the controls on my Bluetooth headphones it launches the stock music app. Is there any way to set it so that those controls control Winamp instead? I have the relevant check box checked in Winamp, but it doesn't appear to make a difference.
Also, when the stock music app is launched via the icon in the regular app list, you are taken to a view where at the top of the screen it says All, Playlists, Albums, Artists etc. How do you get to this view if you launch the app via the widget?
When I click on the widget it brings up the main screen, but it displays the album art for the current track along with player controls. I can scroll left and right to change tracks, but only for that particular album. If I press the little on-screen button (bottom-right) I get a text based list of tracks, but again, for the current album only. I can't get to that screen that has "All, Playlists, Albums" etc. at the top in order to select a different album or browse my library.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi,
For the second part of your query, I believe this is a bug (which I intend to contact Samsung about today).
There is a way around it: from the screen you've described, there should be a button at the right under the album art (next to the shuffle and repeat controls). If you press this it takes you to the "music square" screen. At the top you will now have the menu for playlists, artists, etc.
On mine, in order to not have to scroll across the top, I've disabled everything except Artist and Music Square. Unfortunately you can't disable music square as this also disables the button!
As for the first part, I'm not entirely sure for Winamp but the option to respond to Bluetooth (or headset) controls should be within the Winamp settings (something like "override headset buttons" or something.
Thanks for the reply.
After starting this thread, I noticed that "music square" workaround when watching YouTube vids of people showing off the phone. I had hidden that option, which is why I was finding it impossible to get back to that main menu!
As for Winamp, I've switched to another player now, but I believe Winamp has now been updated to fix the problem I mentioned.
My phone is stock ICS and I've done a reset to fix some issues I was having with accounts synchronizing.
Since then there seems to be a new problem unfortunately. When I open the Music app it doesn't open on the Now Playing screen (the visualization of the cover of the current / latest track with the controls), it instead AWAYS open on the album selection.
The problem is it's very annoying, because even if it's playing a song and I access the shortcut I have on my home screen or the permanent notification by pulling the status bar it opens the album selection instead of the Now Playing. :'(
I don't recall it worked that way before... I remember when I accessed the Music app it'd open on the Now Playing screen either if I exit from it by pressing back multiple times or via the home button. Now it doesn't get back on the screen regardless of what I do (even pressing home and then using the native task switcher to get back into it).
I already force stopped Music and cleared the data, and restarted the phone, but the behavior didn't back to normal. Can someone help? How do your app work?
I noticed this as well, and it's very annoying. However, I believe that's the way it is with ICS. I've flashed 5 or 6 ICS roms, and they all do it.
Hm, I hope I can ask some other things on this topic also...
A minor "problem": Is it possible to make the player to display album art in a per-track basis? I have album art in each track via ID3 but the player gets the one from the first song and spread to the whole album, while I like to switch the covers of the singles and other releases to their own covers on the mp3 files... Doesn't seem possible, never mind...
But I was thinking about how HTC One X Music app behaves in these situations and if I'd be able to get it on my device if I had the apk?
Thanks.
Just so you know, the app is half back to normal. It'll now return into the now playing screen if that was the last one I left the app in (when getting into it via task switcher or status / notifications bar).
Actually it might be interesting to get back in the track selection screen as you can forward just 1 or skip many tracks using the list. But I reported this to HTC anyway.
I'm almost sure there's no way to have per-track album art in the default Music app.
i used xperia ray before and i am now using xperia p. a few walkman app questions.
- when you add songs to make a playlist, is there any way to sort them alphabetically? how?
- in ray's music equaliser, there is a "dance" setting. is there any way to replicate that? how?
Thanks

I think I can help with the playlist. I can tell you how to do that with the media program that Sony made for these phones; Media Go.
http://mediago.sony.com/enu/features
Drag songs to a playlist, then click the 'artist' or 'song' tab and it will alphabetise immediately, now sync that to your phone.
What do you mean by replicate the dance setting? There is a manual equalizer tab, if that's what you need to do.

thanks! can you tell me how to sync it?
what i meant was - i need to know the exact manual levels of the bar so that it will sound like the "dance" preset on ray.
Sure, when you have installed the program Media Go, add music to your library. You can either drag and drop into your library or tell it to use music from a folder that you want.
Now prepare your playlist. Click artist or song to alpabestise whichever you need. Now connect your phone. Your phone will appear in the top left corner. Click on your phone or SD card and on the top right corner you will see sync media. Select the playlist and click ok. Now it will start syching!
There will probably be easier, faster ways of doing this, but this is the fastest that I know of.
As for the dance equalizer settings, I know what you mean now. Either use the equalizer in iTunes or Media Go. Open eqalizer and select dance, you will see the bars move to dance setting. Use this to change the bars in the Walkman app on your phone! I hope this helps!
thanks! let me try this when i get home

I was able to see the equaliser settings. thanks.
is it possible to import the playlist from my phone, edit it in media go, then put it back?
Quite possibly. Connect your phone, then on the left hand side look for playlists near your phone. Find your playlist then right click it, see if 'import' comes up. If it doesn't, look at the bottom of the page, possibly along the right hand side for import (but you must have highlighted the playlist on the left column first). Edit the playlist, then you could possibly sync in at least 3 places:
1. right click the edit playlist and look for export to
2. look at the bottom right hand corner of the page for export to
3. in the top right hand corner, look for sync and find your playlist, click ok
I hope this does what you need it to!

Ask as much as you like, as much as I can help, I will!
When you plug in your phone, and you see it on the left in Media Go, did you click the arrow beside the phone? The arrow reveals the contents of the phone. Do you see a playlist now?
