hi everyone .....today I wanted to change my bootanimation so went to the system/media to find stock bootamimation to my surprise there was no file named bootamimation.zip .......I'm running ics passion with kiss kernel v8.2 ....I'm dont have any problem rebooting .....plz help me out .
Not sure why it is not there but if you want to change your boot animation you can drop the new one in /data/local and it will show up on your next boot, leaving you original (which should be in but isn't for some reason) in /system/media.
Just drop the new one here /data/local and set your permissions and you will be good to go.
thanx for ur reply ....is it safe to do in this way? .......if so then how can I get back my stock bootamimation ?

I'm running ICZen, which is based on AOKP and had discovered the same thing. However if you find a bootanimation.zip that you like, download it and place it in system/media. Although there is no stock boot animation there, after a reboot the new boot animation should appear. For some reason, ICS roms store the boot animation away in another location. Thus, just like Woods method, the custom boot animation you install will not overwrite the stock one. Just delete (or move it [to a new directory like your SD card]) the custom boot animation you installed and bam! You'll have the stock one back.

Yes it is safe to do it that way. You can inter-changed bootanimations at will when you put them in /data/local. In fact sometimes, I will drop one in my wife's phone's /data/local just to mess with her. She is pretty savvy, so it doesn't take long for her to figure it our and go in there and delete it.
That is the beauty of dropping it in /data/local, it does nothing to your stock one. If you don't like the one you put in /data/local, then just deleted it or move it on your SD card for later use and your oringinal BA is still in tact.

Not sure if dropping it in /system/media is a good thing b/c it might throw an error at some point either on bootup or when you decide that you want to change it down the road. I have looked over the Zen releases and never found where it was kept, but then again, I always have dropped mine in /data/local.
Double post.
thanx for replying .....I will try to put it in system/media and I will report it back .....

Yes, that's correct. Or you can also just move it to your SD card and that will also work. As long as you remove the custom boot animation from the system/media directory it will return to the stock boot.

For anyone wondering how to replace your bootanimation, just mount your system partition either with Clockwork Recovery or root explorer and push a bootanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource/TMUS_bootanimation.zip
Here are a couple you can use:
My Evo 4g Bootanimation Thread - Sorry some say Evo 4g.
SamJamz BootAnimation Thread
Basically any bootanimation from a phone that is 480x800 should fit just fine.

Do you push the file while in recovery mode? Kinda confused about that part.
Edit: Got it, yep, you have to be in recovery to accomplish this.

Our phones are a little bit different... our bootanimation is located at system/customize/resource and renamed bootanimation.zip to TMUS_bootanimation.zip I did all this thru root explorer no adb required!
just incase, I also copied the original file I was replacing to my sdcard (if ever I wanted to go back)
Hope this helps
Here's one of my favs, R2d2 boot animation. It's already named correctly, just use root explorer, and make sure the permission is right. Ahh, can't upload zip from the app, I will when I get to my cpu
Thanks for this!
I now have a sweet Android (Cyanogen theme - in prep for CM release ) boot animation in place of the lame stock "my" scribble.
Now all I'd like to do for boot is change the stock splash screen. I've found one to use, but the instructions for applying are for the Evo and not sure I want to risk jacking something up if it's not right. It states to use fastboot to flash the splash screen onto the phone, replacing the stock. To those who know - does that sound right? Where is the stock splash located so I can back it up to my sdcard first?
Any pointers appreciated!
it looks like it u have to be permarooted for the changes to stick :-\

I am also in root explorer and went thru the needed folders till I got to bootanimation folder. How do you paste the renamed animation into that folder? (don't want to screw it up) copy from my sd card and paste it into the folder? Do i paste it into the folder and then tap on (mount rw)? Or do I tap on (mount rw) then hit paste. Rookie worried I might screw it up if do it wrong.

This contains a qmg file. If i rename the zip to bootanimation.zip it should work?
In case you were still waiting for a reply, no it should not work. A qmg file is a compressed video file using some proprietary format that gets played. Bootanimation.zips contain a series of images that are linked together to create an animation.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I also want to change my boot animation back to the stock sgs2, I tried putting the qmg files in system/media and removing the boot animation.unicorn file, but that didn't work. did you do it manually? Or does anyone know how to on this rom?
you need to push the zip file "bootanimation.zip" into /system/media.
You need to do it with some file explorer like 'Root Explorer' when you are on /system remember set the press the button R/W on the top to give the permissions for writing on this folder
Yep, done all that, but unfortunately the rom doesn't read the stock .qmg files so ended up making a bootanimation.zip from scratch. Now just to get the audio running... I have the PowerOn.ogg file, does anyone know where to put it? Doesn't seem to work in usual system/etc folder

my guess would be a particular app, probably an mp3 downloader or something that has adds. take a look at the clippings and see if you recognize them from somewhere. find out what app is doing it and shut it down (clear data and force close) in applications manager, and delete the pics. or just delete the app/ find a similar one or pay for the add free version if there is one and see how you go

check to make sure its not an entire update zip that you are pushing to your system media, aslong as it just consists of a desc.txt and a few parts, yeh you can push it there as described. if its an update.zip, just use it or if you want, extract the files and the smaller bootanimation.zip will be inside for you.

I rename the original to OGbootanimation.zip then I copy the new on into the folder. That way I can delete the experimental file and name the original back if the experimental file won't work. It saves a few steps.
Make sure you're moving the zip file and don't extract it or use CWM on it.
Hm, is it boot animation.zip or sanim.zip?
Have you tried searching the Seraphim thread?
