Having read tons and tons of nightmares about the GN screens and now some of the GS3, I wouldn't know where to ask this
But quite simply put, I love my s3. The screen is perfect....in the phone
I thought where they put some browns I.e. in the dialer etc was weird. But it was right as it was right next to a black
However I tried a black wall with the Nexus X on the lockscreen
The screen looks brown a little. I am thinking it has something to do with the science behind the water and the lock screen....although I Know nothing about that
Might someone explain or give me a piece of mind. I dont know if its worth all that if only on the lock screen
I
I'm confused.

I *think* he's asking if the S3 displays black as pure black on the lock screen, as he thinks there was a problem with that on the Nexus. Inside he thinks the blacks are true black, but is concerned about the lock screen.
I think he's wondering if the water (ripple effect??) might have something to do with the blacks showing up a bit lighter (looking brown).

To the OP:
I'm not using the Touchwiz lock screen, so I can't say how it looks there, but the black background in my wallpaper is black using Widget Locker.
I noticed the Lockscreen didnt like dark wallpapers. Here is an example of when I switched to a dark wall.

It turns out the lockscreen ripple effect was the culprit so disabling that option made the wallpaper look like it should.
Not sure if thats what you meant with your op as it was a bit confusing.

anyone noticed the light color patch on the right side of lock screen when you apply a dark wallpaper and ripple effect is ON?
It looked something like below:

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
removing the ripple effect fixes the light color patch. :good:
That thing is actually a ripple, you want to get rid of that nice effect, weird!
Maybe my kindergarten had failed me, but don't you mean the left side?

It's actually the right one, facing the phone
The thing in the left is a ripple when i took a screen shot.
Turn off the ripple effect and problem will be solved its usually cause of black wallpaper... No one at Samsung tested lockscreen with black wallpaper

yeah.. they got too excited releasing the phone and it had several bugs..
Same thing on mine as well.
My screen twinkles/shimmer (or I dont know how exactly to say it in english) in right down part.
Here is picture:

This can best be seen in home screen, which is on the right end. But when i made a screen of it, on the screen it didnt shimmered so much, though it was exactly the same as homescreen(as you can see on my pic).
And it is doing so only on right down part, in other locations no. Also with dark colour there is no problem.
Could you please try if it is doing your xperia s too? Set that dandelion as a wallpaper, go on right end homescreen and look at it please.
And dont you know how to get rid of it? Should i go to the service for warranty repair?

I tried the dandelion wallpaper, but I can't see anything where you indicated. I would probably send it back as it may be a fault.
Noticed that too, after I got it back from repair center (yellow tint). I have it pretty much all over the screen, but it's kinda hard to notice. I'm just going to live with it, doubt I will get it on warranty..
btw I notice it more easily on red color.
Is it simply a side effect of the Ripple animation on the lock screen that causes it to appear washed out, with "blotches on the right side of the screen? Disabling the ripple effect causes wallpapers to be displayed with the proper contrast ratio, with no light colored blotches...but the "normal" lock screen sucks...
has anyone dug into the lock screen to see what it is that may or may not be causing this?
for example...you can even see it in screen shots...

That is really odd. Mine keeps the same aspect ratio. I loaded up a few backgrounds. The only thing it does on mine is gives it a more washed out look, but no weird blotches like yours. And in your screenshots, it fits the entire image in your lockscreen, but clearly the image cuts off on your launcher. Then again I am using the stock launcher as well. Both images are the same size.
Odd find indeed though. You should maybe try stock launcher and see if you get the same result for testing reasons.

I get "stain/smudges" on the screen too on a dark background with high brightness I tested on demo models to same.
If ripple effect is removed the no issue

Hmm didnt entirely work for me. My top bar is still white except for the battery, lockscreen icons are still normal HTC, and the launcher still looks the same. Oh well still looks good.
It could be cause I was running the Blue Venom theme prior to installing.

Skin does not affect the icons.. it only affects the widget background , touch color , buttons , toggles and lock ring

Understood, still looks great though, thanks! :victory:
is there any method of reducing or hiding the black outlining near the bezel on the g2.is it present in all the roms?
lol, that is a hardware not a software issue

i know the question is kinda noobish but what i mean is that the outlining thickness increses when the phone is running as compared to when phone screen is off or the phone is booting.i mean out of total outlining thickness 70% is hardware related and 30% is software related
can you post some pictures of what you're talking about?

i dont have other camera to take picture of phone.if u see your phone when its screen is off the thickness of black outlining around the screen is less.when you turn on the screen then more thickness is added by the rom to the outlining.see it
sorry, don't know what you're talking about... for me the bezel is always the same, screen off or screen on (stock rooted v20f d802)
It's practically bezel-free as it is, certainly the smallest bezel of any device in its class.
What do you expect?

When your screen is off, you see the bezel very thin, but when you turn on the screen, the surrounding area of the screen have black line that add more "bezel"?
If yes, then it's hardware related and you can't fix that
That's why I choose the black color, so I can't see the "bezel" difference between off and on screen.
I think most of white or non black color phone should have same problem, but on G2, is more thick.
And I think that's why LG G3 use all black color surrounding the screen on any phone color.
