Phone charged too long??? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Dear Jesus I thought we had a problem this morning. I powered my phone down to charge since it was dead, and when I turned it on this morning it wouldnt turn on. A battery icon with a loading "swirl" over it kept popping up every time I tried turning the phone on. I was pretty sure I bricked it (by leaving it off overnight and charging??) And proceeded to cry myself back to sleep.
I unplugged it from the charger and BAM it came on...did it charge too long and shut itself off while on charge? Idk what happened. But definitely not this ROM (Paranoid) since its perfect in every way and so cute.
I saw that a guy on the paranoid thread for i717 (hammer time) had somewhat similar issues but I couldn't post anything to the thread. Any ideas what happened?
Post a NOTE, Stick a NOTE, whatever happens just NOTE it.

Had same problem
I have the same problem after charging all night - phone off. I usually have to pull the battery to get it to boot up.
Freaked me out a little the first time!

Is it ROM specific? What ROM r u running? And yeah I woke up, turned my phone on (or a least tried) and sat up in horror.

[Q] Screen flashes on the battery screen but never charges

Hello everyone,
My sgh i777 (running one of the UCLE5 semi v# ROMS, can't remember which one xD, on siyah v3.4.3) is having a strange problem. What happened was, I put my phone on the charger on my desk, and my sister had a friend over and were messing around. Well I found my phone later in the day on the floor, and it seemed like it was more scratched then. It was still plugged into the charger at the time so I tried to turn it on. However, when I turn it on, the grey battery screen with the loading circle shows up for less than a second, and the screen turns off. Then it will do that again, flashing this screen until I unplug it from the charger. Not matter what I do, it will not get past this screen, and actually, after the screen flashes a bunch of times, you wil stop seeing the battery screen but merely a flash of light on the touchkeys and maybe the screen. I am pretty sure it is not a problem with the charger itself, and I think it may be a problem with the battery. However, my friend had an issue with his Droid (first one) where the charging port on the phone was broken and he had to use an external battery charger to charge the battery, and then it would work fine. To me, the port seems like it is not damaged, and since when I found my phone on the floor it was really hot, I really think the battery just died. I am also fairly certain that this problem is not a software issue, considering I have not tweaked anything on my phone for a few days now, and since it was working just fine before I found it on the floor. I would appreciate any feedback that you guys can give me because, like everyone else, this phone is my baby
Thanks!

Try pulling battery for a few. put it back in. try to get into CWM and wipe cache and dalvik.
Who knows how that happened. But if you have CWM or D/L mode, your fine.
I had this exact same problem on my phone (minus ending up on the floor part). I think it is from the battery overheating. Pull the battery and let it sit for a few. I had to let mine sit out for almost 4 hours before it turned back on. It may not take that long but i would leave it out for at least an hour or 2.
Thanks for your feedback! Yeah I left the battery out of the phone overnight and when I woke up I tried it again and it still did the same thing :/
I want to get an extended battery anyway (I think I'm going to order the qcell one) and if that fixes the problem that'd be great, but if it isn't a battery problem and it could be fixed now I would love to hear how so I am not out a phone until the new battery arrives ;D
Will your phone turn on when not plugged in?

No it won't even show the battery screen when it isn't plugged in. It only does that with the charger. Also it won't even have the flicker of the touchkeys, just nothing haha.
Try to get another fully charged battery from a friend and see if phone will turn on, or if you have an external charger, charge up a battery and see if it turns on

Ok I will try that as soon as possible
I tried a different battery from a different phone (although it was still a samsung phone and the battery fit right and everything) and the same thing happened >,< nothing would happen unplugged, but as soon as I put it on the charger, the touchkeys would flash, and the screen would flicker at certain intervals. Unfortunately I think this is a more serious problem :/

Same happen with my friend I9100. Power Controller gone. Only service center will help.
Seems like your USB ports are bridged. I had this exact problem. If you're under Samsung's warranty, send it to them and they'll replace it. If not, MobileTechVideos could fix it for you.... Though if you're on a custom ROM then I assume you must put it to stock before sending it out to Samsung...
I got it to work haha. Go figure the one thing I did not try fixed it. -___- I was reading through some other threads and found a guy with a similar problem and he said that he left the battery IN the phone but left it UNPLUGGED. Well I did this overnight and sure enough this morning it worked xD
Reading is wonderful!
Glad you got the problem resolved.

Combo! Super Hot Phone and Image Persistence

Late last night, as I was going to bed, my phone was throwing the "charge me" sound and notification flash, it was sitting at 14% charge. So I decided to plug it in, as any normal person would do.
When I woke up this morning I found the LED flashing red/green and the phone was so hot to the touch I had to put it down. Which is saying A LOT because 1) my hands are fairly numb to anything short of burning my skin off and 2) that was through my case, which is a Body Glove Kickback case.
Now, I immediately unplugged as I knew what the flashing lights mean, but here's the kicker -- once it was unplugged it only had 32% charge, I had been asleep for 7 hours, clearly enough time to charge a phone.
Once I realized this, I started messing around with phone (after I could hold the damn thing again) and found that I had a case of image persistence, which was caused by my phone being set to leave the screen while connected to the charger. I've changed that. I'm hoping that I can at least fix this today and figure out what caused my phone to act like this last night.
Nothing was different than any other night. I used the same charger in the same outlet, with my phone in the same spot, as I have since I purchased the phone.
Any help is greatly appreciated! As my GoogleFU has only led my to the screen burn thread and useless threads upon threads of people saying what apps they were using when their phone got hot.

I haven't either. I've had phones get really, really warm -- but this thing was so hot that when I grabbed it in my somewhat awake state, I woke straight up and immediately dropped it on my bed. I'm not one to exaggerate, it was insane how hot it got.
And I'm assuming you're talking about screen on when charging? Yes, I set that. A while back when I needed my screen to constantly remain on.
That's pretty crazy. If you have insurance, I would try get it replaced. It obviously shouldn't be getting that hot, and the last thing you need to be worrying about is weather tonights the night your battery will explode. I'd be afraid to keep it on a charger at this point - even with the screen off.

I was considering taking it to the store, I'll see how the rest of the day plays out. I left it on the charger to full charge and it didn't even get close to as hot as it was this morning, so that's why I feel like waiting it out. I'm going to leave it on the charger for a few more hours and see what happens.

HTC Legend, doesn't boot, pretty bricked?

Hi.
This night my phone shut down while charging, leading to my alarm not going off and making me miss my bus, but that's another story.
Anyhow, when I woke up the phone was off. I turned it on, and I assume the boot-procces went OK..? I pressed on, saw the kernel bootimage and assume it went on to the ROM bootanimation... When I got to the bathroom I saw my lockscreen, and placed the phone face-down on a shelf.
I heard it "buzz" once, as if it shut down, and now it doesn't boot at all. When spamming the on-key it buzzes five times, but those are all signs of life I can recieve from it.
So, in short terms, how screwed am I?
EDIT: Battery problems. After ticklecharging for an hour from USB I managed to get it to boot. Voltage is 200mV lower than usual, so I should probably just get a new battery.
Which rom are u using?

My galaxy note i717 stuck in boot loop

So the other day i left my galaxy note charging in my truck on a hot day, i left it in there for about 20-30 mins and when i grabbed it, it was burning up. i let it cool down then turned it on, worked for a little bit then shut of. i tried turning it on again and did the same thing. Now it just turns on shows the two samsung logos and restarts itself, but when it is on the charger it will load up completely for a second then it turns off and goes to the charging screen, I have done master resets restored it, everything i could think of. i was running the 4.1.2 jelly bean update via kies and it was rooted. Im not sure what the prblem is but i believe it is just the battery... Please help

would you leave your child in a hot car for 20-30 minutes and expect it to ok? there should be law against doing that with your phone.
is the battery charging? or did it charge while you left it suffering in the heat of your truck?
maybe your fried your cable?
power button isn't stuck is it?
If you beleive its just the battery, buy a new one from ebay for about $8.00

Haha i understand that, its not the charging cable, i can charge it fully and try and turn it on but it does the same thing, i didnt fry the cable, i just let it charge while cooking in the sun. Im ordering a battery and hoping that its just a fried battery.
Did the new battery fix it? Driving along today mine just shut down and is doing the exact same thing. Boot loops, but with charger plugged in it boots to the charging screen. Sometimes it loads for half a second. Curious if the battery worked before I go hunting one down locally tomorrow.

[Q] Is there something wrong with my battery?

So, I recently received my dad's old Galaxy S2. Stock JB, unrooted. My dad used to charge the phone in his car and during office time, whereas I've always been an "overnight" charger (keep this in mind as it's important). So, here's what happened -
1. I woke up really late the next day and realised that the alarm clock hadn't rung. checked out the phone beside me to see that it was really hot. The phone had shut down by itself. I turned it on and it functioned normally. That day I rooted the phone using PhilZ (mainly for the adfree app)
2. I didn't do an overnight charge for the next night cause my dad told me that "it ruins the battery". And the phone was fine the next morning. I changed to dorimanx's kernel for all the wonderful extra features.
3. That night, I decided to try overnight charging once again. Woke up the next day to a shock. It was 10am! No alarm, hot phone. I thought the phone had just shut down again, so i tried to switch it on. It showed the samsung boot screen and then the pretty "dorimanx" screen, but then.. stuck. the device wasn't starting, but recovery was working. I removed the battery, I wiped the cache, I installed another kernel (siyah)... nothing worked. FInally, I decided to try flashing a new rom. Downloaded SlimKat and flashed it through CWM. The device then booted up and has been working quite normally now. And I like SlimKat much more than stock! But that's not the point. The point is, I'm scared of charging overnight again.
None of my previous phones have faced this problem. I'm just a noob, but I have a theory. I noticed that the phone, once it reaches 100%, doesn't give any indication that it has stopped charging (like most phones do). The charging icon on the battery still shows. Does this mean that the phone is still trying to charge even after the full battery, which is causing the overheating and shutdown of the phone? I'm still confused regarding why it refused to boot up.
Is this a battery/device problem, or was this merely due to some fault in the stock rom?
You were actually stock in a boot loop (which has happened to me before(hated it). Be glad that it didntt freeze at the Samsung logo. Because then you couldn't get into the CWM.
I am not entirely sure what is wrong with your phones battery, because I have never had this problem myself, so I am sorry I can help you with that. Try going to settings/battery and see if you can turn sound on for the battery from there.

Given the age of the battery it's likely to be the battery, so replace that first. Could also be the USB board, but cross that bridge when you come to it (try the easier option first).
Your old man is wrong about charging - constant charging/discharging like he did for however long is far more likely to reduce a battery's useful life than a simple use the phone during the day charge once overnight arrangement.
