Hi,
On my Razr I every now and then get a message that background data has been deactivated when I'm starting Google play, however I never disable it. I go inte options (as the message tells me to) and I see that background data has been disabled, I activate it but after it while it deactiviates itself. Very irritating.
That's interesting. Are you on ICS?

Smart Actions
i think the other users are 100% correct. i had the same problem and it was indeed smart actions. at first i thought it was a great app, but ultimately stopped using it. the battery life on the device is so good that i can have on the wifi / gps / 3g / bluetooth and the battery still lasts until bedtime.
i was suprised that smart actions would let you disable background data...

I'm currently running a rooted Sprint stock 2.3.4 and from time to time i have notice that the screen would not timeout or go to sleep. I can push the power button and put it to sleep but it wont do it on its own. I did check and screen timeout change to "never". Has anyone else ran across this issue and/or maybe have a solution?

um, to clarify, you have it set to never and you're asking why the screen wont timeout?

um, cant you just simply change it from never to like 15min or another interval?
Sorry that I was not totally cleared. My phone would randomly change from 1 minute timeout to never. So the issue is that if im not careful and check after im done using my phone, the screen would remain on and drain my battery.

Did you do a clean install of the ota? Because if you didn't then it could have caused that problem. I suggest you do a full wipe (after you backup) and then install the ota afterwards. See if the problem persists and if it doesnt then restore your apps.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I had applied superwipe and installed rooted stock ota before posting. Of course still the same random issue. However I will use RUU and go back to stock then start all over from the beginning.

I originally wanted this for my OG Driod.
When tethering I hate it when I get a text or a call as it interrupts the data stream.
I would like an app that I can enable that cuts off the radio portion that receives texts and calls leaving only the data stream active.
Is this even possible?
I would like it so much I would donate to whoever could make such an app.

I live in a rural area so it doesn't just snap right back. I can live with it I just ignore people and they stop texting. I would pay money for an app that could do it.

I've done a lot of searching and have come up a bit fruitless on this. I was using JuiceDefender for a little before it just decided to not work anymore(?), but I really liked having my 4G disabled when the phone was in stand by with the lock screen and turning back on upon unlock. Just wanted to see if anyone knew an app that did this specifically. I'm using Apn4Apps right now, but it's just not quite the same.
I'm developer of Apn4Apps.
There is no sense to enable 4G if you open your screen to use your notepad.
Apn4Apps enables the mobile data for your selected applications.
Why would you need to enable 4G when the screen is on?

I installed this app and it it is exactly for my requirement. But for some reason the data connection goes off almost immediately as it turns on after a selected app is open. I'm on ICS.
Also, what is the timeout?
Thanks

I have some queries to understand the issue.
What's your phone brand and model?
What's your exact ICS version?
Is the rom stock version or not ?
The timeout value defines the timeout value for disabling the mobile data (3G/4G) when the screen goes off.
As an example if your screen has a value of 1 minute timeout value and APN4Apps has a timeout value of 10 sec then your mobile data will go off after 1 minute + 10 secs if you dont touch your phone.
Hi
this looks like a great idea, but it's not working 100% on my phone, so here's some feedback:
Galaxy S2 on the latest CM9 nightly. It only turns on data for your own app and the google play store, no other programs work, and it never turns off data on its own. Some apps, like Rainy Days, make your app crash.

Have a unlocked Rezound that I'd like to use as a media device.
Why? Because the device continues to work well. I have a spare battery and chargers, holster and case. It can do wireless (802.11). Plus memory space as well as SD card capabilities.
I think if it was possible to disable the cell modem within the phone, battery life would be increased. Would love to find a ROM that minimizes the bloatware, allows you to disable the cell portion of the phone but maintain the device's other functionality.

I haven't seen a rom that lets you kill the cell radio all together and still keep wifi on. You can kill mobile data or put it in airplane mode when you don't need wifi either.
Install LTE on/off and turn off radio, WiFi can still be used, done.

@rjh20136 I'm partial to Sense ROMs and recommend Ineffable Deus for Sense 3.6, EclipticRez v9 (MHL fix included) for Sense 4. I use EclipticRez with either Sense 4 Car Mode display or XBMC app as a media device. I also use Poweramp and Google Music with ViPER4Android sound mod for car audio. Snuzzo's Funky kernel 3.7 version can underclock to 96 MHz to save battery more, try it out.

As Pmania said, toggle Airplane Mode first and then toggle WiFi back on by itself. I do this myself.
You can also access the Phone Info hidden settings on some ROMs by punching in "*#*#4636#*#*" on the stock dialer.
This panel controls global radio settings and can toggle the cell radio on or off independent of Airplane Mode. Do be careful not to select anything you're unsure of like changing regional frequencies.

To be fair, the grammar and lack of uppercase letters in the first post did not make it 100% clear you meant a specific app title rather than a generic toggle just for the LTE band. Mjones and likely others misunderstand at a glance.
I'm guessing the app is "LTE OnOFF - HTC Thunderbolt" by Cunning Logic. This app accesses that same hidden Phone Info panel accessed by the code I previously mentioned. Would recommend for the OP if the Airplane Mode trick is not preferable and the dialer code doesn't work on their particular ROM.
Other useful apps like Battery Monitor Widget can access the hidden settings too (BMW does it under the main menu > Tests button > Phone Information)

I second the *#*#4636#*#* method. There is a button in there to do exactly what you want.

Hi fokls,
I recently updated to 5.1 ( Lollipop). I am on Tmobile and for some reasons, the mobile data setting kept getting disabled frequently.
Anyone knows what to do to fix the issue. I have tried pure stock as well as with root. None of them seems to fix the issue.

Just want to confirm, I have this problem too. Also on T-Mobile.
Edit: is it really just the setting that gets disabled? I have been rebooting to fix it.

I tried that, it didn't work. I'm waiting on it to happen again to see if I can just re-enable mobile data.
Even if I can, this is still a very annoying problem. You'll miss a lot of emails, and messages. Yet another reason you might not want Lollipop

Its strange though. But if you go to the setting, then mobile data, you will see that it is turned off. Turning it back on, will re-enable it. I dont know why it does it though. No need for air plane toggle.
Is there any possibility this problem could be tied to a default power-saving setting that is turning mobile data off to conserve battery?
Just a thought.

I did two things, but I haven't had this happen since I did them.
1. Renamed HwPowerGenieEngine3.apk and HwPowerGenieEngine3.odex to disable them. (just add .bak to the end) They are located in "root/system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3/" and "/<SAME/ARM/"
2. Enabled the option in Mobile Network settings to "Always-on mobile data"
Like I said, I don't know for sure if either really fixed it, but I haven't been having this problem for the past 2 days.
#1 . do I need root to rename the files?

yes, that requires root
I have no answer for you but, I am on T-Mobile and that's not happening to me. My WiFi becomes disabled sometimes/rarely. Also USB debugging gets disabled as soon as I back out of the settings for it. This is on B309.
My friend and I both using HAM2 on Wind, still on 4.3. Phone signal (not only Data) frequently turned itself off, then turned back on after a minute or longer.
Could it be the AWS (1700) frequency not reacting well to Huawei power genie?
I tried using "Normal" instead of "Smart" power saving scheme but no joy. Just froze "Power Genie" app via Titanium Backup. I think it turns the power saving feature off completely. Will monitor to see if it helps. I'll trade network stability for shorter battery life.
Apparently this problem is getting worse with Lollipop update.
