Galaxy S3 Bricked? After New Rom Install-No Power Up - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ended up installing the wrong ROM on my Galaxy S3.
The phone will not power up now. No Omega boot or CWM Boot. Tried battery pull, charging, usb/pc charging and nada.
I made a backup under CWM, wiped the factory, wipied cache, and did all the wipes. Afterwords, I installed the rom from the internal sd, went back and restored the backup I had previously made through CWM. I proceeded to reboot after all this.
My phone just turned off, no reboot. No power whatsoever.
So....is this thing just paperweight now or what? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

you should have read the only sticky thread in this forum.

You tried flashing a rom for the international model on a US model.
Not good.
You should see if you can get help in the vzw forum.

Download mode?? Or buy a USB jigg which forces your phone into download mode

Thank you all for your prompt responses. I was stupid enough to download and install the wrong rom, but I was able to convince my retailer that the phone came in defective and they are exchanging it for me no questions asked! Thanks again all. Sorry for the wrong forum post!

Yes, I believe this is what happened to mine!

Same thing happened to me, after hours, and hours of researching i had to send it in to Samsung, who than after 3 weeks of me waiting, replaced the motherboard and sent it back. Now im too scared to do anything on my S3 rom related. Only basic rooting for me . (Even when doing that when i got my phone back, i was ****ting my pants the entire time.).

The best thing you can do is what I did. When you send it into Samsung tell them you were using the phone to send emails and whatnot and suddenly the phone started heating up and then it shut down and would not turn on.

I need some help. I think I killed my brand new S3. If anyone can help me... please.

Hi,
I think I may have killed my brand new S3.
After rooting using the very good SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V4.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
I inadvertently changed the DPI setting and now my S3 is stuck at the logo at boot.
I used DPI Changer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.innodroid.dpichanger).
Is there any wizard out there that can please please please help me recover my literally brand new phone?
Oh please tell me I can do something to recover this. I'm really really afraid I just spend my last money on something that was broken after just a few hours.
help....
Factory reset in cwm or else flash a rom via cwm or else flash one via Odin.
Don't worry its not dead.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Go t samyfirmware dawnload stock rom dawnload odin.Go t dawnload mod : volume dawn, power and home flash the stock rom
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Just for reference... I have owned and tinkered with smartphones and tablets since the very first XDA.
This is the first time I have ever been afraid I broke a device.
I will tell you why. When I wiped the data, user, dalvik and cache the S3 was still dead. Even after installing a new ROM the phone remained dead. It simply did not go past the loading screen. It could not connect to Odin either. I still had CWM though, so that was good.
So I was pulling my hair as I could not find a solution. So i posted here....
Anyway, I had to manually go in and FORMAT every folder (data, cache, system etc etc), reboot into recovery, install my chosen ROM and GAPPS, and then after a very veeery long wait it finally booted. W H E W!
I can only say it was high tension there for a while, but I am glad it was solved.
So anyway, DPI Changer from the market does not work with Galaxy S3... At all.
Sorry for wasting your time finally.

[Q] Samsung Exhilarate: Soft Brick or Hard Brick?

Noob here, please bear with me:
Updated my I577 to ICS, then rooted it using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806118
Worked like a charm, then I picked up ROM Toolbox Lite from PlayStore, which worked fine until I tried to change themes.
Somehow, it got to where boot was stuck at vendor logo. Unfortunately I did not Nandroid backup in time, but I was able to do a Kies backup before rooting, so not worry about the data loss at this time.
Used CWM5, did davlik & cache wipes, factory resets several times, no dice. No stock ROM available so I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30444507&postcount=6
(flashed system tar through ODIN) Hanged at "system.img.ext4".
Here's where I'm at now:
-- Boot looping at second Samsung logo
-- ODIN 1.85 still reads device at port
-- Battery indicator visible when plugged in & power off.
-- Still able to get to cwm recovery 5.5.0.4
So, IS IT SOFT BRICKED OR HARD BRICKED?
Bonus Question: Is it unbrickable?
Any input or answers are GREATLY appreciated, and a fix will most likely be monetarily compensated through Paypal.
Black-wolf, j3r3goss, or shabbypenguin if you see this, your input is certainly appreciated as well!
Its soft bricked. Hard brick means there is no life at all and won't even power on (through software).
Any soft brick is unbrickable, the only nonunbrickable brick is a hard brick (which is rare)

If you can get into Clockwork Mod Recovery still then select wipe data (Do this twice), then select whipe cache (Do this twice), next select factory reset (Do this twice), finally go back and select reboot system. This should unbrick your phone for you

THANKS so far for the input!
I was able to nandroid out of the loop, but now it's back to my original problem--it keeps booting to the "Rethink Possible" AT&T screen & freezing.
Any ideas? I'm thinking I'm gonna be outta luck until I get my hands on a legit Gingerbread Stock tar.
Did you whipe cache, whipe data and preform a factory reset like we suggested? Preforming a nandroid restore won't get you out of your phone hanging on the at&t logo.

Hi thanks for your response to my problem,
yes i flashed a custom recovery from clockwork and i rooted it. i cant get in to recovery mode.
after i did that i tried flashing custom rom like i said before but after reboot it didnt do anything.
i just got the startscreen and found that i could use download mode and odin to flash original rom.
i used 1 click downloader from Odin and it started to recover my rom,but at the end it stalled.
after that happened i couldnt do anything anymore.
i thought it was totally dead but i just saw that when i connect to my comp it says unknown device..
im an idiot for trying this stuff without the knowledge..it looked easy in descriptions
but i found different descriptions how to do it..
i cant put links in my posts yet cause i am new..
i used the 1st one.. but after that didnt work i found that other 1 and that is little different...

I did all that, but the one thing that finally nailed it was formatting my internal SD. I also formatted my external one, but I don't even think I put it back in the phone.
So, if anybody's reading this in the future, and you're still stuck after wiping the cache, wiping Davlik & performing factory reset,
FORMAT THE SD!
And flash this through Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31765274&postcount=59

Hey, total noob here but Im having problems with my Galaxy S4 so I was on this thread looking for a fix.I have an AT&T Galaxy s4 (SGH-I337) and I just rooted my phone and installed clockworkmod recovery. I went to backup and then when I rebooted it freezes at the AT&T logo. Ive wiped data/factory reset, wiped caches, etc ive done everything and it freezes at the same spot. I have no ROMS as I had just rooted, just stock 4.2.2. Then I saw a vid on how to unroot/unbrick and it was working perfectly until it went to reboot.(I downloaded 4.2.2 firmware for my model phone) I used ODIN and it said pass then when it was rebooting it froze in the exact same spot (also instead of the normal bootup it still had the "custom" and an unlocked lock that Ive had since I rooted) and now I cant enter recovery mode. It starts booting but then freezes when the blue letters come on! Now even when I try to turn it on normally it freezes at the samsung logo (with unlocked lock and "custom")Please help! I would greatly appreciate it!

[Q] Interesting Issue, Possibly bricked my SGH-I757M

I think I just bricked my phone, Interestingly enough I hold down the power button and the phone doesn't even power on. Absolutely nothing happens, I plug in the charger and no powered off charging Icon shows up either. The phone is just downright dead.
This is what occured moments before.
Booted into CWM 6.0.1.1
Performed Factory Reset/Wipe
Cleared Cache Partition
Cleared Dzavik Cache
Flashed Siyah-s2-v4.1.5-CWM
Flashed cm-9-20120909-UNOFFICIAL-celoxhd.zip TWICE
Flashed gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
All flashes were successful.
Phone was Rooted prior.
Rebooted, The phone turned off and since then I cannot get it to even power on or charge while off. Pulled Battery, nothing.
Any ideas?

Have you tried just going into download mode and then plug into the pc to see if it picks it up.... Also here is a link that they have the jig for G2*s just a thought. .http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/ This guy does really good work and I have seen some phones fixed with NO hope.

eMMC Brick bug. It would seem that this bug effects the SGH-I757M (Bell Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE) as well as just the i9100's.
Before the full wipe, which kernel did you have? if not siyah or any other kernel which disables the super EMMC bug, then you hard bricked your phone.
However i remember there is a guide somewhere on how to recover a bricked phone

Oh I was not aware the Siyah Kernel did not support the SGH-I757M, are there any kernels that do? (non stock)
Spent some time on google. Seems there are no custom kernels that support the SGH-I757M. That is very dissapointing, as I really wanted to get the Siyah Kernel or at least any aftermarket kernel that improved on what we get stock.
PS. Bell Replaced my SGH-I757M Thankfully, albeit no amount of begging could convince them to upgrade me to the S3

[Q] Hard brick Samsung Galaxy SII

Hi, i'm a new user of SG SII, and i don't know much about it. I was trying to install new ROM on it, first I tried to unroot my phone with CF ROOT, after that everthing was OK. Then i tried to install REVOLT JB i9100 ver 2.8.2, when i got by CWM in recovery, instead of clicking wipe data, then cache and ccache partition i did: wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition, wipe dalwik cache and format system. I flashed kernel and during ROM installation phone turned off and did turn on. i think it's hard bricked. I don't know what to do, please help.
Are you still able to get into don't download mode o your phone ? ( volume down, home key, power button )
If so, reflash your kernel and go from there.
Also have a look at CyanogenMod, they have a good post with instructions on here.

no, phone doesn.t response on anything, even if i'm charging the battery.
Try removing your battery and unplug cables.
Then try download or recovery mode again.
If it really doesnt work then there is probably something fried on your system board, doubt anything you can do about it as i had the same not that long ago out of the blue.

You can always tell them that you were updating via kies and it dropped dead just like that.
Your battery was low when you tried to flash it, wasn't it?
try a jig first tho; there's something fishy about those wipes you mentioned.

On some occasions flashing a device can use 40-50% of battery to prep and flash device which is why its advised to never flash your phone unless you have at least 50-60% battery.
If power cuts out during flashing procedure it can damage nand/ic chip, corrupt bootloader, corrupt sdcards etc.
After leaving it plugged into to charger overnight try a USB jig to see if you can get it to wake up in download mode, If you can re-flash rom and go from there.

From what you described, it couldn't have hard bricked your phone. In fact, it isn't easy to hard brick our phone unless you install that infamous ICS 4.0.4 leaked ROM or mess with flashing of PIT file. Try to use another fully charged battery to boot up or go into CWM recovery.

[Q] Did I brick my Galaxy Vibrant?

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant that was running Android 2.1. I rooted the phone (successfully), and installed Slim Bean 4.2.2 plus Google apps. Everything was going smoothly and I was reinstalling apps and data when I noticed that I had no network phone connection. Slim Beam did not seem to recognize the sim, and I came up empty searching for networks. I removed the sim and put it in another phone, and everything was fine.
I decided to restore the previous android 2.1 (which I had backed up) using ClockWorkMod Recovery. I did restore, then reboot. Now the only thing I get is the initial screen ... Vibrant and Samsung in bold white letters. I have tried repeatedly to launch CWM Recovery, without success.
Is it time for a new phone?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, but my phone is somewhat "challenged." I got it for free (that's the good news). The previous owner gave it to me after the power port/usb connector got damaged (that's the bad news). As I understand it, all the suggestions require a usb connection ... something I've been able to live without for the last year. Maybe I should give it a shot and get the usb port repaired, or maybe it would be cheaper/smarter to go shopping. I'm going to need time to think about that.
Thanks again to both of you.

If there's any way you can get into cwm mode then you can first add the zip file of the custom rom from your pc to your sd card via a card reader and then try to flash a new rom. I think the problem you are getting at the moment is because you did not format dalvik cache and some other things before flashing

I keep trying to launch CWM Recovery, but no such luck. The initial screen with Samsung and Vibrant appears, then nothing. I have to pull the battery to turn the phone off. I did wipe the dalvik cache before installing Slim Bean, but not before the reboot. Thanks for following up, but I've got a bad feeling about this.

The last resort is probably the samsung service center. They'll repair it for a hefty price but that'll be less than the price of a whole new phone..... sorry about your loss
