How screwed am I? (SGS3 root failure) - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

So I had been a loyal iPhone customer for 3 years. I only got the 3GS beacuse it was the hot phone back then. Well it finally died on me and I decided to jump into the Android market as I was not so happy with the iphone 4S and the 5 is a ways away. I had been jailbreaking my iphone since day-1. It can still go back to iOS 3.0, I'm only mentioning because I have a fair amount of experience jailbreaking and unlocking that phone, multiple times on multiple OS's and been through multiple bricks. Never one this bad however.
I decided to root my Samsung Galaxy SIII and looked up how to do it online. I saw a tutorial video and followed it, the link for the firmware was down so I googled it and found the same filename but in Japan (i can hear the sighs). Anyway, I ran Odin3 1.85 and used that CF-Root-SGS3-v6.2.tar I downloaded and it failed. The phone is now stuck on a screen that reads:
---------------------------
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
(Galaxy Icon) - (Warning Icon) - (Computer Icon)
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
------------------------
I have tried Kies and it says it "SGH-I747 doesnt support initializing"

At&t? It sounds like you didn't really know what file you were flashing.
Try flashing this through Odin.
EDIT: wrong link. This should help.

[Q] Odin 3 download mode (don't know any other place to ask)

My gt-7500 froze during a gaming session, so i rebooted the thing. This made me get into odin 3 download modew without any intention to do so. Problem is, i cannot seem to get out of it, nor am i able to turn the device completely off anymore, it restarts itself, or dies when empty batteqry.
Samsung refuses to help me and is blaming me for trying to jailbreak the device, so i had to find out what that ment, and i ended up here. I do have quite abit of technocal skills, but i have no experience with this device, nor did i intend to until this happened.
Can someone please guide me in the right direction to get back to plain original samsung software?
The gt have some info where it's stuck, and here it is if it helps.

Seems like yours is an actual hardware failure and somehow the memory containing your kernel (the software that makes it tick) has died.
Just call them again, stress that you have not modified the device, and they can check that that's actually the fact.
I would not go rooting / flashing the device on my own if this happened just out of the blue, then clearly the hardware must be faulty.
Would tend to agree. If you are the original owner and have never attempted to root before then you certainly have a case against them refusing to service you. Who is to say it won't happen again if you were to reflash things onto it yourself.
Sounds like you could though as it is in download mode currently.

So there is no easy software i could use to attempt exiting the downloadmode, without attempting to modify anything?
If you hold down the volume down button while it restarts does it give you the option to boot into recovery mode?
No i do not get any option to go into anything else.
Hold down the power button until it restart itself

Good luck! When you get a new tab, come back to learn about what you've been missing (root + custom ROM). But, yeah, I agree that it's a hardware failure if nobody has ever rooted it. (BTW- download mode is just "download mode"; ODIN is just the name of a program everyone here uses to flash the tab when it's in download mode)
I didn't get a new tab, but they did however acknowledge that there was an hardware error, so they changed the mainboard.
I think they would get more positive reputation if they didn't blatantly go out and blame people of jailbreaking stuff before they even look at the problem.
But aslong as the tab is working after this, i'm happy
Today my Samsung galaxy R i9103 with original Hong Kong ROM turned into brick..
Rooted for 5 months.
And I have found a .bat on other forum to get into odin 3 download mode
Same as Kentimeter, Reason: No Kernal, and I don't have any other options after rebooting my phone. It just gets me to the same page.
What can I do besides taking it to Samsung to fix it? since I won't be in Hong Kong until 2 months later...
Sigh. This is disappointing.
I've been rooted for a long time. Essentially the same thing happened to me that did to OP. Froze randomly, rebooted, and bam. Download mode with no kernel.
So am I essentially screwed? This is beyond disappointing.. only had the tablet for a year...

[Q] possible dead sgs3 with sds ?

hi all , my phone died about a week ago, ive tried flashing it with all sorts using odin, tried the kies restore method aswell all to no avail,
I cannot get passed the white Samsung gt-i9300 writing , I cannot boot into recovery, I can however get into download mode, odin recognises the phone, but whatever I flash it wants a pit file for, and when I input various pit files it just gets stuck at mapping pit (something like that)
displayed on download mode is the following :
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME :
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD :NO
CURRENT BINARY : SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS : CUSTOM
FIRSTLY notice there is no product name , upon reading up on this it means the phone has suffered sudden death syndrome, firstly if this is the case is there a way I can fix it?? secondly if not how likely is it that Samsung will fix it ?? considering it has custom firmware on it ?? shoud the custom firmware matter as from what I read its to do with a bad emmc which is hardware right ?
any advice or help will be appreciated
thanks

Nothing you can do, motherboard needs replacement. Your binary count is zero but phone was rooted, even so you should be able to get a warranty repair.
Contact Samsung and tell them SDS has happened.
Also, questions go in the Q&A forum, not general. A search would have returned many similar posts.
I have a probably soft bricked i9300 that I have inherited from my brother. Since it is almost impossible to do anything with my HTC Desire, I would like to get this S-III running and use it.
According to my brother's explanation Viber was locking on the Phone so he got into recovery menu, pretty much pressed every option that he could found without knowing what he is doing. You may call it a monkey test. He is kind a over-confident non-technical guy.
Now the phone stays in non animation Samsung i9300 logo. Phone does not charge, I can get into download mode. Odin tells that it can't find the PIT file and When I give PIT file, it does not do anything.
Download Mode Screen Says
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
My questions are:
- Are there anything like a wiki page that puts everything together, so that I can see if I miss anything? I am not familiar with the android jargon. I am having hard time understanding all the parts. For example there are several PIT files, which PIT is proper for me?
- If nothing can be done with Odin/Kies/Heimdall, can someone connect with JTAG and correct it?
- Are there any professional who can make this JTAG (or whatever operation) for me that I can find in this forum? (Device is a grey market item so Samsung service is not an option for me)
Best regards
Zorbey
Product name is blank, emmc chip is blown so new motherboard required. If you searched and read this post why ask the same question?

[Q] Unusual Soft brick i9305

Hi guys, I'm new to XDA, flashing roms and sadly 'soft bricking.'
Or atleast that's what I think it is. Essentially i downloaded a couple of ROMs that I was testing out; and one of them was for an i9300; my phone is a locked to the optus (australia) network i9305 (4g) (sgS3 LTE [that's what the yanks call it, right?]. I had cwm back up and i had read into the whole ordeal a lot. I did everything it said and it sort of worked; the device was rooted CF-root via ODIN and the device had once been rooted before through framaroot. I checked the root using root checker, and got ready to install the custom ROMs. I copied the .zip to my external SD card and i went into cwm and clicked install or load or whatever. It didnt work-- at first i could get back into cwm but now I CAN NOT GET INTO ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY, CLOCKWORK MOD AND IT GETS STUCK ON THE BOOT. I think it's soft bricked because i can still get into download mode.
SO firstly, what steps should i take?
when i connect it (usb cable) to the computer it doesnt show up on kies though its got all the right drivers.
I'm quite lost.
top left corner says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT- I9305
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (7 COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Does anyone know how i can get out of this nightmare? would it be worth to pay OPTUS $258.01 AUD for them to fix it?
What method have you tried to get into clockworkmod since this happened? Just to clear up any potential lose ends.
Guessing, pulled out battery for 5 secs, put in (make sure it doesn't boot automatically as soon as the battery is back in), hold down these buttons in order for 5 seconds home + volume down + power. You can also try both volumes up/down and up in this combination. They generally may do different things.
Keep calm, as long as we have All in one toolkits or Odin, it's nearly always okay.

I haven't tried to get clockwork back. my computer won't even acknowedge the phone plugged in so i dont know?
i;ve done that-- it only gets to download mode
Also, i can't get into any sort of recovery mode (clock work or android system)
i have Odin on the computer, but it doesnt read the phone
Good, download mode is all you need for an AIO or Odin to work. While it may not recognise the device conventionally (generally the software is trying to work in MTP or usb mode), download mode is just fine.
Download Unified Android Toolkit from here: http://www.skipsoft.net/?wpdmpro=skipsoft-unified-android-toolkit-v1-2-8
And it gives pretty good steps to run procedures on your phone. From memory it lets you flash a custom recovery, flash certain roms and a few other things.
[Edit]
You have installed the Samsung usb pc drivers right?

Just one thing I would like to point out reading your thread is that you say you downloaded a number of roms including a I9300 your phone is a I9305 (DO NOT FLASH I9300 ON A I9305!!) This can potantially brick your device! Also uninstall Kies if you want to use Odin it interferes with it.
Last but not least you have posted in I9300 thread their is a dedicated I9305 thread here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help-i9305 <<

Need help un-bricking my Galaxy S4 (AT&T)

I have had this phone in its current (bricked) state for about a year now. When it first happened, AT&T convinced me to get a replacement... hence me not having fixed this yet. That phone was stolen, and i really need to get this one to work now.
It has been awhile since i originally bricked it so i will try to remember exactly what happened. I was trying to root it, pretty soon after the S4 was released. At the time i was rushing it and ended up deleting the OS completely. I can get into ODIN download mode, but that is about all. I have tried installing a recovery, but it doesn't seem to work. It does not fail, but it is impossible to boot into.
Every other thing i have tried to flash on ODIN has failed.
Anyway, on to some specifics.
At the ODIN download screen:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0xfffffffc
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0xfffffffc
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE enabled
START [224, 1440]
BAR [240, 1440]
after attempting some flashes, it also says "check fail fused : 5 binary : 4"
The screen that it boots to without holding any volume buttons pictures a phone, a warning triangle, and a computer monitor. It says basically the same stuff in the top left, and below the picture it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies a& try again."
I have tried with Kies btw, no dice.
I was an idiot when i did this, but i have heard from people that if i can get to download mode there is a way to fix it.
I should also mention, I have gone to best buy multiple times. None of the various samsung people that have been there will fix it. One of them seemed like he tried to but as soon as it said "fused" that was it.
I have tried various solutions such as this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279
I have been on here for ages, but this is my first, or one of my first posts. I hope someone out there can throw me a lifeline!

Possible phone brick

Hello members, so here is my short story, I bought the note 2 close to release date. Within a few days I dropped and cracked it and ended up just buying a used phone. A little later I decided to revive it and get the screen fixed, I think at one point i had it working but that was a couple years ago. I think I might have rooted it, then at some point put it back to normal but I cant remember. I do not remember what version I have on it or if I did take the 4.3 with the locked bootloader. I have tried all the tricks out there I can find, including trying to get Kies to see it and do a recovery and also using Odin 3.10 with the .pit and root 66 vzw stock. All I get after using Odin is a reboot, the samsung logo then black screen. I can not seem to get recovery to open, just Odin which shows
ODIN MODE
Project Name: SCH-I605
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Know Warrenty Void: 0
RP SWREV: A2
Not sure what my next steps should be
Thanks
