Official OTA ICS Upgrade is a Complete Disaster - Motorola Droid RAZR

I apologize if this thread is a tad redundant, but I believe it goes beyond your run-of-the-mill glitches that one might post about in the ICS Bugs thread.
I got my OTA upgrade about 10 days ago, and since then my RAZR has been utterly useless.
The biggest problem is an obvious issue with power management. With GB I used to get almost a full day of heavy use. Now I get 2 hours, 3 if I'm lucky. I often find that the phone is extremely hot, as if the processor and radios are running at 100% for no reason.
Perhaps worse than that, it takes infinitely longer to charge than it used to. As in, 5+ hours to go from 0% to 100% -- and that's while the phone is powered off. Powered on, it'll take even longer.
I've experienced issues with almost every app, and with some I've had literally no success whatsoever. Facebook freezes half of the time before even loading up. The stock Browser will freeze a few times a day. Alarm Clock Xtreme freezes whenever I try to edit an alarm. Neither the stock Gallery nor third-party image apps will load up any of my photos without freezing. Google Talk won't initiate video chats. The list goes on and on.
Moreover, the phone will often just freeze outright. Sometimes the screen won't light up, regardless of how many times I press the power button. Sometimes the phone gets stuck on the home screen, and responds to nothing. Sometimes the phone becomes unresponsive, although pressing the capacitive buttons still triggers haptic feedback. Because of this, several times a day I just hold power+down to shut it off the hard way.
At this point, I actually avoid using it. It's that useless. It's more burdensome than it is helpful. It sucks because, when it's working, everything is really smooth and the ICS interface is really cool. I can tell it would be awesome, if only it worked.
Has anyone experienced such madness as this?
FYI, I'm running:
Android version 4.0.4
System version 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Baseband version CDMA_N_05.11.01PLTEDC_U_09.11.00
Kernel version 3.0.8-g29cf5e7, [email protected] #1
Build number 6.7.2-180_DHD-16_M4-31
I can't believe they would release something so unstable.
And yes I've gone into recovery and wiped the cache partition several times to no avail.

I admit there are some issues with the battery and heat and bugs, but i have not experienced any freezing with the stock browser or any program really, alarm clock extreme and it works for me, I don't use the Facebook app often but the few times i have, no real issues sometimes it lags trying to update. I will say thay the market SUCKS or play whatever they call it. Maybe you got a corrupt OTA file or something is wrong with your update installation. Maybe try doing a factory reset, i know that sucks to do but i do it before every OTA and im not really experiencing any of the software issues you are experiencing. If that doesn't help, root it and use the razr 1.7 utility to reinstall the system files.

Did you try to wipe the device (factory default)? It helped in my case.

If you wana solution to some problems without wiping the phone, boot into recovery and wipe the cache, fixed my battery and a few other problems, It doesnt remove anything you have done, also it eliminated my lagg problem.

ICS is very different from GB, and Motonverizola tried really hard to get ICS to play well with existing GB cache data and GB settings. All of that stuff changed a LOT.
The problem isn't ICS: the problem is data conversion from GB to ICS.
Wipe the cache and dalvik. If that doesn't get it, then do a factory reset and set everything up again.
Mine runs for days with light use (1-3 hours a day), or a day+ with heavy use. It doesn't get hot, unless you mean that the other way. But that'd be kinda creepy.

Hi
This is my first post here at this forum and I'm not a Razr user but thinking about getting the Maxx because of it's hardware and big battery which fits my usage of a smartphone, I have a Galaxy S right now.
I have looked at some of the posts and screenshots of the battery usage on the new leaked/released ICS for the Razr and read about complains about the short lived battery and the devices that overheat, well, we had the same problem when GB has been released to the Galaxy S and that is all related to the Android OS app that is using the battery because it's got into a loop, this will not get fixed unless you make Motorola aware of the problem. I could be wrong but I think that is related to the dalvik-machine. Android OS should be using around a single-digit of the battery of all time (3%-7%), we don't have this issue anymore since Samsung fixed this bug in the later releases of GB firmwares.
A temporary fix of the Android OS is to reboot the phone when you can see that it's hijacking the battery, this is until Motorola fixes the issue.
I wish you all good luck and hope that you will get a better firmware soon.

Its always good practice to start fresh when accepting an update that big. Less variables = less problems.....
Id do a factory reset and start from scratch... that sux... i know, but so does a useless phone
Ics def wasnt all the hype.... but its also not that bad... just gotta start clean.
Good luck!

Complete disaster? How is it a disaster compared to my update? After the update I could no longer receive text messages, Consider the fact that I send a receive hundreds of text messages per day this is honestly the biggest cause of outrage I have with a flagship that can't perform even what a Nokia 6280 could, when I finally receive texts they come in 4 hours late and worse still, in DUPLICATES and I can't seem to find any solution to this as of yet. A factory reset fixes this for an hour at best but the problem suffices after that. Does anyone have a SOLUTION to this? Honestly driving me nuts

I agree with most others... do a factory reset. I always do after a major upgrade (and ICS is a major upgrade!)
Then check what apps you are putting on the machine; some cause issues. For instance, I put the new Starbucks 2.0 app upgrade on my phone yesterday - consumed battery like mad, phone ran hot (like cook-an-egg-on-it hot), runaway processes, etc. Turns out it was the new Starbucks app; after removing it the phone ran normal.
Otherwise I love ICS! So try the cache wipe; and if that doesn't help then do a factory reset and reinstall things. Takes time, but it saves in the long run.

Wow, this is crazy to hear. My update has been flawless but I did a factory reset after getting it. I bet if you did that it would fix 99% of your problems.
I also rooted after and now I'm running a cm9 rom. This is the best my phone has ever run.
Ultimately, even if you don't root you can fix most of these problems with a factory reset.
Sent from my Droid Razr using xda premium

Hold down the Home button to see what's running, download a task manager to see what's dominating the CPU. The phone won't get hot by itself, something is using up the CPU (like you said) if you don't want to factory reset you've got to figure out what it is. Rooting and setting the CPU governor to hotplug will save quite a bit in battery (shuts the 2nd core off when not needed).
I'm on a Canadian leak, the first day battery performance was terrible. By the 4th day, the battery lasted longer than GB

I concur with everyone here about the factory reset.
As other's have mentioned, going from GB to ICS is a major overhaul. I've read elsewhere what this really entails and it's not pretty. Suffice it to say, I backed up all my user apps and data (using Titanium Backup), saved off all other things that were on my internal SD card just to be safe and then applied the OTA update in stock recovery, wiped data and cache and rebooted. I then rooted, installed Safestrap and flashed Eclipse ICS v1.2 RC1 and restored my apps with TiBu.
I also tried stock ROM as well and restored my apps via TiBu.
In both cases, no performance issues nor forced closes. Runs like a champ.
I'm running the latest .214 leak and my battery life has improved over .211.

.214
Razr Maxx
I was having shorter battery life with the ICS .211 build and then updated to .214
My battery life is way better then it ever was with GB or ICS .211
I ran it the other day for 36hrs and 3 of it actually talking on the phone and had 20% battery life left.
It has currently been on for 4hrs 6 min and is at 90%. light email and phone use. I do have an IMAP email account that poles every 10 minutes with push for instant updates.

Mine is running fine after simple reboot
I am getting great battery life and my Razr Maxx is working almost flawlessly after the ICS OTA stock update. I just rebooted it shortly after the update when it was running hot and haven't had any problems since.
If .214 is even better, great.
Looking forward to Jelly Bean to get even more from my device.
Jeff

Was on the soak test and had the same battery problems. Only way to fix was via a factory reset. This did however fix all the problems.

Cant use motocast, it wont connect to my motocast on my mac. So i cant sync my media. How to solve this?

Thanks for the replies everyone.
As mentioned I have tried booting into recovery and clearing the cache, but it doesn't help.
Some have suggested wiping the dalvik cache. However I don't see that as an option in the recovery menu. Do I need to root to have that option? Excuse my newness to this.
Worst case I guess I'll just have to do a factory reset

has anyone figured out what makes the X2 Freeze sometimes?

im wondering if it is the speed scripts? i am using eclipse 1.1 now so im going to see if that fixes it. but i have been getting the freeze when unlocking the phone, and sometimes randomly when im using the phone the screen goes 100% unresponsive...the buttons work, but nothing else...then after about a min or two it comes back..VERY annoying...
Do u reboot or clear system caches on a regular /daily basis? This may help.
Sounds like things are getting clogged up. I used to have that problem a while ago before I started rebooting once a day. Usually when I wake up and sometimes twice a day. It is healthy for an android phone to be rebooted once a day. Just plain works better.
oh this has happend right after a SBF or a reinstall of an OS, so there was not even a day on it. it happened this morning once when i unlocked the phone BUT i had that speedy script installed, i resotored from a back up before i installed that scrpit so im going to see if it happens again....i hope it is not hardware related..

I hope it isn't also.
It has only happened to me in the past like I said. It's been a long time tho((knock on wood))
I have also been running the speedy script v6 . I only made one change and that was deleting the 3gturbo entries in the one script. And I haven't had this problem yet at all. Been running for two and half days now.
has this also happened on 2.3.3? i was wondering if it was a 2.3.4 issue?
Sounds like something clogging your memory. When I start fruit ninja my x2 screen goes unresponsive for up to 20 seconds I assume its just memory management during game startup. Are you using a task killer to maximize free ram? This will cause background apps that you may have killed to restart if they are called upon. That would cause the phone to bog down temporarily
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
nope no task killers at all. i noticed using system panel i was at only 77 mb using eclipse...
My phone doesnt freeze but it does randomly reboot no matter what rom, script, length of use before a restart, or whatever.

I guess I got pretty lucky with not getting reboots.
Even before I rooted and rom'd up I think I MAY have had one random reboot. I guess I just got lucky. Basically the only major problem I have had that others have os the music skipping I used to encounter lag occasionally but since I started my daily reboot routine lag is pretty null on most occasions.

I wonder the same been using eclipse straight up except for setting the min to 216 instead of 312 never had any issues period . Might be worth getting rid of speed scripts and see if that is the issue.
2.3.4 was made pretty much to fix the lockups and reboots. It might be something with your backups. I know I just used a backup a couple days ago after giving up on upgrading to 2.3.4 and until today when I finally upgraded to 2.3.4 it was slow, laggy and unresponsive. Mind you before that last nandroid, it was working amazingly.

Can anyone tell me where to find the latest updated stock rom at??? Or if I can find it within my phone and extract it myself. I wanna mess around with it and see if I can't come out with my own fully functional roms and stuff. Any help would be great. I tried a search in here and in Google and didn't find anything usefull. Thanks in advance.

Be aware that is NOT the latest OTA. That is a leak from Moto and may or may not the next official OTA. We don't even have a changelist for it. By all accounts, it is stable and apparently improves upon certain things like battery life.
The latest official OTA is 198-6.

I beg to differ. I've had nothing but weirdness with 198_7. After about a month of freaky stuff, I'm going back to 154_5.
Issues I have with 198_7 that I never saw with 154_5:
- Wifi falls asleep and forgets to wake up sometimes, even when sitting next to my router with phone in hand. Have to manually disable/re-enable it.
- Random vibrations. Like they are buffered or something. I'll make a call or watch a video and out of nowhere.. buzz buzz... buzz.... Possessed!
- Laggy keyboard. This may be due to SwiftX keyboard but sometimes after typing a bit it will freeze, but buffer all the keys and vibrations, so it feels like a poltergeist.
- Inability to acceptable calls occasionally. The phone rings, it shows the caller id, but the screen is not responsive. The phone is frozen and will just stay in this loop, showing the caller, ringing the phone, and vibrating it long after the caller would have been sent to vmail. I have to actually pull the battery to stop it.
- Phone gets hot while idle. Hot battery = draining battery for no known reason.
I am running stock everything, not even a custom launcher. Only have a few apps installed and 2 games. Nothing that should cause instability. Bootloader locked. I do have bootstrap recovery but I've only used it once to try to clear cache/dalvik and reset data.. But even after that it still started happening again.
I am going back to 154_5 today. I had 0 problems with that version. I never tried 198_6 as I heard it had issues that 198_7 fixed. But 198_7 seems worse than any I've tried so far.

My bad. From the actual thread, most people seem to have no issue with it. I haven't tried it myself, so I was merely summarizing group opinion. This is definitely why I mentioned it was unofficial.
BTW, do give 198-6 a try. I'm currently running it and I can't think of any stability or usability issues with it whatsoever. I have been running it since it officially OTA'ed months ago.

CM7 DX2 - Issues so far

One minor and a couple of major issues...
- Notification drop-down stops accepting touch input but can still be slid up and down. Reboot fixed
- Battery life is horrible. It's better with wifi set to turn off when the screen turns off, but I'm still losing about 10% per hour. With the stock 2.3.4 ROM I was able to go 16 hours and only drop to 80%. I've read maybe I need to let the battery discharge completely so that it can calibrate? I'll try that today.
- Cell connectivity is sketchy now. I've had problems making calls. Full bars, then it tries to connect and the bars drop to 0 temporarily, then come back up and the call fails. My SMS send success rate is about 75%, sometimes down to 25%. I've had multiple text messages fail to send and some texts I end up receiving minutes and sometimes hours later. This is a huge problem.
Overall I think this is a great leap forward and the phone is very fast now, but with the battery life and sketchy cell problems I may have to go back to stock.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
I wish I could get this to be stable, and I understand it's still beta, but I have to go back to stock. If I didn't need the phone and SMS functions to be reliable then I'd stick with it, but I need my phone for work.
I'll keep an eye on how things progress and maybe try again down the road, but chances are I'll be upgrading to a Galaxy Nexus in a couple of weeks anyway. At least then I can use my X2 as a toy and not care about carrier stability.
I think these problems are rare, sorry. I do share the "wifi not reconnecting" but wifi fixer is a work around. This is a super daily driver. There was a screen blackout but I found non-compatable themes to be the problem.
We need a "This works check list kind of thread" so people know what does work. FWIW.
edit
This is the best battery life I have had on any rom.
Yeah, I also had the wifi not reconnecting problem but that was trivial. I'm back to stock now, the last straw was the phone not even reconnecting to 3G, I lost all data connectivity. I could deal with the battery and such, but the cell/data connectivity problems are a definite no-go for me.

My issues are (minor):
One of my game can not be played (Siegecraft - after downloading the game data, the system ends with "network error") all my other games play fine, so I don't know why.
Gallery app constantly re-starts when trying to view pics. No work around it. If anyone can suggest a good gallery replacement app, please let me know, I tried Gallery Plus (I think that is what it is called) and it also did the same thing.
Major issue (Maybe not an issue):
My wife claims that some phone calls are not going through (it rings from her end, but I am not hearing the ringing on my phone for some reason - I had 5 missed calls listed on my phone). That said, 3 or 4 test calls I made came through without any issues so maybe it is the issue with the ringer not being high enough for me to hear?
Overall, so far, except for the missed calls (which may not be an issue at all) it is a very good daily driver and hopefully after things settle down a bit more it will get even better.
Navigation/Maps/Latitude issue with GPS
When I go into Navigation or Maps or Latitude, especially Navigation, there is a constant message at the bottom of the screen "Searching for GPS".
When looking at Maps, you see the current position but the area is in a fuzzy circle. It didn't happen when I was on stock rooted 2.3.4.
I did see an option to use an external BT GPS but the external is not enabled.
Any ideas?
[EDIT] [Solved] After a reboot, GPS is working fine.

I had this same problem, reboot fixed but only temporarily as it returned last night again. As of right now I can't get the notification bar drop down to accept input without a reboot. I'm borderline on this being a showstopper as I live off of the notification bar...
I've poured through the settings, but haven't found anything that fixes it. I have the notification bar power widget turned on, turning that off hasn't made a difference either. I'm going to leave it off and reboot, and see if it comes back.
Do you have the notification power widget turned on?
For everyone having problems with CM7, I HIGHLY recommend going in and wiping both cache and dalvik-cache. (Not a data wipe.) This has fixed pretty much every problem I have run into with CM7.
Now for downloading large files, I have found that I have to use tasker to create a "power profile" that never turns off the screen. I do not have the WIFI loosing connection issue that has been reported, however I have noticed (on stock as well) that when the screen times out, downloads all fail or stop. Just my 2 cents.
Ciao!

Even though this was done after applying CM7 in BSR? Not sure why doing it again would make any difference, but stranger things have been known to happen.

I'm not sure if people have tried this, but it works for me...
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> WiFi Settings -> (menu button) -> Advanced -> WiFi Sleep Policy
By default it's set to turn wifi off when the screen turns off but can be set to "Never."
I would like to report the only problem I have had with CM7 on my DX2 is one of my apps not restoring data I backed up before flashing. Other than that, I LOVE THIS ROM! I used this ROM on my old Dinc and absolutely loved it then too. I feel at home with CM7, and since this is only a beta version, I can't wait for the final release!

I wiped cache and dalvik (even though I did it in the install steps as well) and the frozen notifications problem has not resurfaced for me. I will post again if it returns, but thanks for the tip moon shadow!
Well, I guess I'll give it another shot. Getting back up and running is almost second-nature now, hooray for backups. haha
I'll wipe, flash, boot CM7, reboot, wipe again, and see if things behave any better. I just went back to stock a few days ago and I'm ready to kill it again. Only 2.5 weeks to upgrade devices!
So I've read through the CM7 development threads and through this one regarding some of the issues. I am currently running on Liberty. Since I am still learning the Android world (read: I'm freaking clueless), would you guys suggest changing over to CM7, or staying with Liberty?

I have never run the liberty rom but i do recommend cm7. The only issue I've had is with wifi. It loses connection sometimes. I downloaded wifi fixer from the market. It doesn't fix the problem but it does reconnect wifi for me. Some have this problem and some don't.
Make a nandroid and give it a try. If you don't like it you can always go back to liberty.

Thanks so much!! I found the directions to give it a try, and realized it was waaaaay more complex than what I felt comfortable doing on my own. Plus, it said I would have to install it from Gingerbread... so that would be 2 installs to complete. May have to wait for my tech guru for this one! However, I'm excited to check it out!
(By the way, I realized that on the couple posts I have, you have helped with both of them. Double thanks. )

Good luck with whatever you decide but it really isn't as complicated as it sounds. Moonshadow has created some great tutorials to guide you through each step. And you are welcome for the help.

Looks like the notification issues returned for me, great timing. I noticed this time, that one of the notifications that is stuck there is partially Swiped off to the left. I took a screenshot but I'm a nub here and can't post the link.
On another note, I continue to have the wireless problems... dx2 keeps trying to connect, sometimes says disabled. I have set it to never turn off in the screen timeout section. Very weird...

Well, I went and reinstalled CM7 last night. I was diligent about clearing both caches both before and after install, and again a little later after reinstalling apps, plus I also cleared the battery stats.
Don't want to jinx it, but so far so good. Battery life has been very good, I easily went 16 hours and the battery was still > 50%. No call or SMS issues and no notification bug yet. We'll see how things work over the next couple of days...
I've got horrid battery life (down to 60% in 5 hours of LOW use) and some wifi issues (sometimes has a hard time connecting, sometimes not).
I'm going to try the davlic and cache wipe and report back.

[Q] CM 7.2 random reboots - Huawei u8160

Hello all.
As the title says, I've been having random reboot sessions on my phone lately. When these reboot sessions occur, the battery gets hot.
I'd like to give some more information about my situation:
I've been using CM7.2 on my Huawei u8160 for almost half a year now, without any kind of problems. Lately, the phone started rebooting randomly, especially during phone calls, making the phone almost useless. The reboots also occur when the phone is idle. These reboots drain the battery extremely fast.
I've been using CM7 with the V6 supercharger, as I said, for months without problem. When these reboots started happening, I reflashed the rom, doing a full wipe (clear cache, clear dalvik, format system, format data, factory reset etc.) , but that didn't solve the problem. I reflashed CM7 several times, with / without V6 supercharger, without deleting those system apps that are safe to remove (live wallpapers, update notify etc.). I also reflashed the stock froyo rom the device came with. None of these methods worked.
It is getting more and more frustrating, since they occur randomly, and I can't make a proper phone call, since it's almost guaranteed the phone will reboot during the conversation.
I tried formatting the SD card, using another SD card, resetting the battery stats, using a program on the market and the CMW Recovery - nothing helped.
Another thing I noticed (this may sound very stupid) is that the phone reboots more often when I'm outside (it's winter here now), or when I enter in a warmer place, or when the phone is in my pocket.
I asked an assistant from a nearby Vodafone store, she said that it is a software problem ( -.- ) and that the phone needs to be sent for service. I told her I've already reflashed the software, and she said I only did an update not a full soft flash (lol).
I would really appreciate if anyone could give some suggestions, or help me in any way.
I have also created an error report using the device specific setting menu included in the CM7 rom, which I am attaching here.
Help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yeah, going to the store after flashing a custom ROM is rarely going to yield favorable results. Honestly, I'd try clearing app data and fixing permissions. What recovery are you using? When in doubt, wipe twice.

Yeah, I know that rooting void varranty and everything but the naive me thought maybe they can say something clever...
I tried clearing everything, formatting system, data, cache, everything, fixing permissions etc.
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.x.
I am planning to buy a new battery because I observed it's getting really hot sometimes, and after the reboots occur, it's also really hot.

The more time you devote to this the more you'll realize that most of the folks at the stores dont know much. It wont hurt to buy a new battery. Wipe the battery stats. Do you use a custom kernel? Ovetclocked? Underclocked? Played with the voltage tables?

Yeah, you're right...
I did wipe the battery stats, let it drain completely and did a full recharge. For the kernel, I don't really know much about these stuff (yet). This is the ROM I use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259739. Im my phone info menu it says 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #23 (no idea what this means) so I don't know if it's a custom kernel or a stock one. For clock values I use min: 30MHz max: 600MHz (which is the stock value if I'm not wrong). I don't know what you mean by voltage tables, I'd appreciate if you could explain that.
Thanks so far.
Well basically in a nutshell, voltage is the power sent to the CPU. Some custom kernels allow for what's called undervolting. Basically you're you're lowering the amount of power sent to the CPU, where in theory you'll achieve better battery life. However, this can be very dicey. I would not recommend playing with voltage tables until you're a bit more experienced. I asked because undervolting can lead to boot loops and seemingly random reboots. You're running a solid rom with cm7. If you didn't touch it, then that's the stock cm rom. Have you searched the forum thread?

Yes, I haven't touched anything in the ROM I'm using currently.
I've been searching the forums for days before starting this thread, without success.
What I noticed about the reboots is that it occurs almost exclusively when making / receiving a phone call and when the phone is idle.
*edit: I forgot to mention that I'm using Segoe font, not sure if that makes a difference though. I have replaced almost every font in the /system/fonts folder (droid sans+bold+mono and even droid serif+bold+italic+bolditalic)*

ART runtime

Only thing I did when I got the phone was
Very first thing I did was add my google account
I turned ART on and rebooted
Installed Titanium backup
Attempted to restore my apps from my former phone.
During this whole process I had 3 hard lockups and about 6 reboots. (I spent the day trying to get my phone setup)
After 5 hours of hating the G3, I figured it had to be ART.
So I factory reset my phone and repeated all of the above EXCEPT for enabling ART, and did not get a single lockup or reboot.
Anyone else have problem with ART. I really want to use it, Android L everyone will, but I have it on my HTC one m8 and man does help with battery.
Let me know others who have tried this...
Anyone have any thoughts on the matter...
I'm going to be completely honest. I had A LOT of problems when I enabled ART which is weird, because I had it on my m8, g2 and nexus 7 and never had problems, but on my g3 i had Random powering off, constant freezes, force closes and incredible battery drain. I did a factory reset and kept everything on dalvik and everything works great.

Yep, sucks! Having a clear understanding of how ART works, I really want it, when implemented correctly your battery lasts much longer, and programs load quicker. A shame LG didn't spend any time testing their implementation of it. There are only a couple phones that support this, you would think LG would test, i bet LG didn't bother making sure their own software was compatible. Like turning ART on, on a ROM that doesn't support it. So this pretty much confirms that the LG G3 stock rom does not support ART.
Another reason I can't wait for a bootloader unlock or loki. I know the developer community will be able to get it right. LG did such a bad job it makes me wonder if they're developer team even heard of ART, it looks like they just grabbed the lastest version of KitKat which has ART in there, and they didn't bother doing anything at all to their ROM to coincide.
I spoke with my friend who just got it and he confirmed similar problems on art.
Can confirm, spent 3 or so hours troubleshooting the problems (which I thought were due to an accidental system app restore via Titanium Backup), but it turned out to be ART.
It also might have been the reason for some issues I ran into with downloading/installing apps and updates from the Play Store (usually just taking an extremely long time to install, occasionally freezing and automatically rebooting, occasionally giving an error code), though I can't be 100% sure ART was the cause.
Whatever the case, seems to be stable now on Dalvik. I wonder what's causing the issues on our phones, the other carrier versions reportedly work fine on ART...
It's definitely ART people. I can confirm this, because I originally started with ART and experienced random power offs, force closes and freezes. I did a factory reset and tried again with ART and same issues.
I factory reset it again, stayed with dalvik and NO problems. I have 2 other friends go through the same situation and still had issues with ART.

i noticed a few of you have said a factory reset back to dalvik. Does it still lock up if you just switch it back in Developer Settings and reboot? Id rather not factory reset after i have my phone set up now. Thanks!
I've been on ART with no issues yet. Maybe I'm a fortunate one. It converted 249 apps, took around 20 mins to do so... But once it did, I had a little stuttering issues. Once the apps settled in, I've been smooth sailing.
I had 4-5 lockups (deep sleep / coma / battery pull) yesterday after flipping over to ART. Last night I did a factory reset and left things w/ Dalvik. No problems yet. Really glad to hear it isn't just me!

Switching it and rebooting should work in most cases, although if you still get lockups and crashes or issues downloading Play Store apps, then I'd do a factory reset too.
Ok, thanks!
when i switched to art I got some massive battery drain, factory restored and it went away. Gonna stick with dalvik for now, until i can figure out what is causing the problem.
I thought my unit was faulty when I switched to ART cause I had random shut downs and high battery drain. It seems though that the G3 (VZW) is not ready for it yet until a firmware update.

I enabled it, but it was a disaster making the thing way more laggy than before--brutally slow with apps crashing.
It's clear we all had similar problems with ART and dalvik is the best option.

I experienced much the same thing.I've pretty much been on ART since I got the phone. I was having a lot of lockups like the rest of you. Last night I factory reset then enabled art again. It seemed ok last night, but this morning it was rough again. Eventually Google play stayed upgrading a bunch of apps. There were some issues while the updates were happening, but when all the updates were nearly done the My Verizon app "unfortunately" closed. Since then it's been golden.
I'm at 40% battery left after 10 hours on battery, 2.5 hours screen on time. Not quite what I was hoping for but much much better than I had yesterday.
I guess I'm a lucky one. Over 250 apps optimized and no issue or reboot. Yet.... In fact I've no issues at all. Worth reboots, heat, wat not..

I switched over to ART but it was shutting down anytime I would have it locked for more than 5 minutes. Then i would have to pull the battery because it wouldn't turn back on. Now I'm back to davlick for now.

I wont even bother with ART once I get my G3, I never found the difference to be all that noticeable, but I noticed a huge difference on Android L, just wait for the Android L update to the G3 and itll be fully optimized.
