Set sd card as default storage - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking to have card set as default for photos, downloaded items.
How do I do this?

depends on your make/model, but on a samsung GS2 I go into settings>storage>menu>storage configuration, un-tick internal storage

As Samsung has changed the way the SD card is mounted by the phone, I don't think that is possible (to confirm).
A solution could be to create a symbolic link between the internal storage and the SD card via a Terminal, even if I don't know if it'll work.

[Q] How can I make Dropspace backup my MicroSD card instead of just internal memory?

I would like to use Dropspace to back up my phone, but it looks like it can only see the internal storage (/SDCARD) not my add on 32GB card (/SDCARD2). Does anyone know how to make Dropspace default to /SDCARD2, or ideally both?
dropbox reads it as sdcard\ext_sd
Thank you!

You can go to Settings - Storage - App storage location settings and set everything to download to the Storage Card. That will establish the /sdcard/ext_sd/ to be the default for many apps who access this information dynamically.

How do I make the extSDcard the default download location?

I just recently placed my MicroSD card in my phone and would like to know how to assign the extSDcard as the default location for download and storage for my apps; I was wondering if anyone knows how to get this done?
I noticed the Camera App automatically Notified me or asked if I wanted to switch the data location to extSDcard, in which I did. I'd like to change the default location for the nook app to download to extSDcard as well.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated, thanks

This is not possible unless the app gives you the option to select a different directory. The internal storage is presented to the apps/system as an SDcard and the actual external SD card that you put in is mounted to a directory. So Android/apps see your internal storage as SD card and your actual SD card as a separate directory - therefore the app needs to allow you to configure it. Can't do anything at a system level.

How to save to external SD card?

I have a Galaxy s3. But this pertains to any phone with a sd card.
I can access the card with root explorer just fine. I can see media on it that I placed there due to media scan.
But i cant save to it on some apps. Apps that capture pics or save stuff..in their options, it allows you to choose the directory you want to save in. But it stays in internal storage only area only.
I cant go up to main system root directory to choose the external card for a folder location...
Is there a way to do it?

[Q] Memory Storage

I purchased the P780 a few weeks ago. Although I'm happy with the phone there are a few glitches that I cannot seem to find a solution to.
1. Any images or audio files put on the external memory card are not shown in the super gallery photo viewer or google music player.
2. I have selected the external memory card as the default write disk. All the data (Whatsapp downloaded images, videos, etc, documents downloaded from the web browser) are stored on the memory card, but they cannot be seen on the photo viewers or music players etc. If I default the writing disk to the internal memory card, none of my apps installed on the external card are shown in the menu.
Is there any solution to this problem? If not, just tell me. I'll stop looking for the solution and get on with using it as is.
Thank you.
I never have problem with this, I am using 32 GB external micro SD and no problem. Are U talking about storage which has phone only or included SD card?
Add 2. It s normal when U change external to internal storage (or conversely) as default storage, that phone doesnt see the app which was instaled before changing storage, but when when draped as it was originally, it will return back.
U can try use another viewer for image or music from playstore, if U see all images or music, ... If U are using SD card, it must be formated fat32 (not NTFS) or ext2/3/....
And place when U download files U can set in the internet browser properties.
Which ROM on your lenovo are U using?
Thank you. I shall try re formatting it and also look for other viewers/players.
BEFORE RE-FORMATING DO BACKUP of all !
Of course.

SD card question

I have bought a new tablet (Asus k019) and a new sd card because I can only use 4/8gb of internal storage, but I can't download any game/app bigger than 1.5 gb (I have 1gb left on the internal storage) because it says I don't have enough memory and any picture I recieve on whatsapp or any picture I take it's saved on the internal storage (called /sdcard/ in file manager and the card /MicroSD/ ,btw). On my old phone all my media it's automatically saved on the sd card, not on the internal storage. How can I make the sd card the default location for apps/media?

You will have to set it in each app. Also even if you move the app to the sdcard most of the data will still be on internal storage. This is due to the way android boots things up. The sdcard is not made to run games off of.

I dont think that app has the option. The main reason is mostly due to google removing the base code for SD cards. Each OEM adds them back in their own way so there is no universal way to code an app for it.
Check the settings. I dont use it nor does anyone that I know. We all moved away when FB bought it.
