I'm using S2E on my HTC Aria on CyanogenMod 7.2 for quite a long while. However I've never removed my SD card since then. Anyhow, today I accidentally removed my SD card from the phone without switching it off or anything. My phone went to black and does not respond till I pull the battery.
However after I boot it back up, all my apps were gone. There's not even Android Icons to show that the apps were installed but have no data thus becoming null. It is totally gone and my phone booted up as new as I just flashed CM7.2 with no GApps.
As much as I know my phone did not factory data reset because I've flashed in GApps, and after reset, it should still be in there. My phone did not detect my SD card but I did not bother and went straight to hard resetting my phone and reformatting my SD card and start getting back my apps all over again.
Now that I know I mustn't pull out my SD card at anytime I wish to, my question is....
Can I have my phone in USB Mass Storage mode while using S2E? I've not tried that and I'm not willing to download my apps all over again thus I'm asking before I do so.By right USB Mass Storage kinda unmount the SD card from your device while it is ON. Logically thinking, all my apps will be gone again. However, am I right? :silly:

Use link2sd...
With that, only the fat partition gets mounted, and the ext partition (I assume that's the format of your partition) will remain mounted on your phone...

I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems

Totally of the topic BUT I'm Selling a fully rooted Droid Eris running CM7 port ROM for $90...interested PM me.
So I'm using the USB mass storage to copy my files and such then I accidentally pulled out the USB cable without safety and pressing the 'turn off USB storage'. Then something weird happen. Some of my apps I just installed like 5-10 mins earlier missing. Then I thought I just download it back.
The next day I took a picture its like 20 of it and I watch them in gallery. Then my phone switch off and I turn it back on. All my apps and photos I just took 5 mins earlier is gone. Only the apps and photos I took before the accident happen were still there. Than I thought now I need to format my SD card to fix this.
So I cut all my stuff again to pc via USB storage. Then I go to cwm recovery and wipe all data. Then I try rebooting my phone but then all my apps and stuff are still there like normal its not supposed to be like that because I just formatted my SD card 1 min ago.
Then I try formatting my SC card again in the cmw recovery and I noticed after I choose wipe data factory reset it said failed, error or something like that and said SD card not mount. I've try formatting it in so many ways via PC, and in the settings>privacy but it just that my SD card can't be formatted.
Please help me, and I'm using Mik cm7 rom btw
your sdcard might be corrupted. are you using the sdcard that came with the phone?

No I'm using a new 8gb memory card that I bought separately from the market
use amon ra recovery to format it, or try via adb (u can google for how to)
Any other way?
I had this strange notification appear after I removed a couple of system apps with ROM Toolbox (Thinkfree and Yahoo Finance). When I tap it, nothing happens.
I tried to clear cache and it disappeared for a while, but only to return.
Does anyone know what it means? How to get it to go away would be cool to.
My phone has GR2.0 running.
Try removing your SD card and then boot.
Looks like the phone is not able to read you sd card.
Definitely.. I think it's a SD card problem.. The logo says though..

The phone is definitely reading the SD card, it can access the files and my apps load at start up.
I attempted a couple things. I turned the phone off, took out the SD Card and started it up again, initially the notification wasn't there while it was doing the SD card scan, then it re-appeared again after a duration.
Then I tried doing a factory reset as well as clear cache, this had the same outcome. My next step would be to reinstall the firmware.
Could it mean the SD card is damaged in some way?
I'm the 4 genie and I'm extremely frustrated with my evo. While fixing separate issues, I tried flashing something and now it's got an error that E: sdcard (the evo's internal memory) won't mount. It's corrupted i think
It just sticks on the splash screen when I boot up, but the bootloader's and recovery are still here
So far, I've tried formatting it with several programs on both a mac and pc. I tried moving and copying files from the sd card to the internal "sdcards."
I am so sick of this phone, it's caused nothing but problems (first one i got had signal issues, this one ran slow and got even worse signals when i upgraded to JB).
I'm on TWRP 2.5.5. S-ON, HBoot 1.19
Please help me resolve this problem.
I am having the exact same problem. From what I've found on the rest of the internets it seems like we need to reformat (preferably with windows). But I only have a mac so I havent tried that yet.
You guys can try something like this.

If you don't like the phone, then just trade it in or buy another. Coming on and saying how much you hate the phone isn't going to do anything.
That being g said, you probably had a bad flash and it corrupted the internal ( like you said). Most of us have done it at least once. Format the drive, and there you go. That's what fixed it for me, and usually what works. It won't fix your distaste for the phone, though, or your signal issues.
Sense ROMs tend to have better signal than others with my phone. The Sense 5 port is pretty nice, but there are plenty of others that work well. If you've tried the sense ROMs already, then go with AOSP. Some people have better luck with those.
If you still don't like it, then get a phone you do like... Hell, I'd be happy to send you $50 for the phone if you don't want it, I could use another to play with...

How do we format the drive if nothing can SEE the drive? The same thing happened to me. I can't get to the internal sd card.
Every time I had the memory corrupt it was from a viper dirty flash. All I ever did was wipe both caches a factory reset wipe security them mount internal to my PC and format. If this is still at no avail then I would wipe internal storage and let TWRP format the drive for me. I have never had both methods fail. The corruption of the internal storage is why every dev insists a full wipe and factory reset after flashing a new Rom

ugh, gotta get this working so i can get a trade in credit toward my iphone 5s
Interesting issue. I've fixed the issue on other EVO LTE's simply by mounting internal storage while connected to a PC, then formatting it. I can't think of a reason this wouldn't work for you:what:
ok, i've mounted it to the computer as mass storage several times on 4 different computers and formatted it, but to no avail
at the top, it will only mount the sd ext card..... maybe i've mounted it wrong? where do i mount it?
also, the micro sd card is the only thing it wants to read... is there a way to install the ruu (just a stock rom) and boot it from the sd card?
thanks again for the help!
Sorry for the necro, however I had this issue recently and finding very few fixes so thought I'd put something out there.
Now my fix was very simple, so I don't know if this will work for everyone. That being said, the ROM has been buggy now.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 - i9300 (international version)
ROM: Pac-Rom 4.3
Recovery: TWRP
Issue:
when starting phone, it is stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S III" logo screen.
Troubleshooting:
I was relieved to find that I could boot into recovery (TWRP).
From there my first instinct was to wipe my phone and re-flash the ROM... BUT when I tried wiping, I got an error. The log said something alogn the lines of "cannot mount internal storage" or "internal SD". I can't remember.
So I freaked out thinking my internal flash storage was fried, BUT why is TWRP working then?
I connected a USB cable to my computer to see what happens. Windows 8 picked up the external SD card, but not the internal phone storage.
Fix:
I would usually NEVER flash a ROM without wiping first, but thought I didn't have much else to lose. I tried flashing PAC-ROM 4.3 without the wipe and it said "successful". WTF? I didn't expect that.
I rebooted and everything worked fine. The ROM wasn't stock either, it had all my settings and icons on my home screen in tact.
Since then, the ROM has been buggy. Youtube app disappeared and wouldn't search properly in play store and the apps drawer had all these com. files f or the google apps (this was still there when I re-flashed GApps).
So I was able to save my phone, but had a bunch of issues. I have since flashed to PAC-ROM 4.4 (Kit Kat). I very much miss the PIE controls and Halo, but it is extremely stable.
Here's what I did when I had the same issue. Take out the ext SD card. Then, plug your phone into your PC. Format your phone with windows, it should appear as a flash drive or something like that. After that, I replaced the ext SD, mounted that with TWRP, and formatted that, too.
I have a 16gb Samsung Galaxy s5, that is rooted and its external SD card used to work just fine its internal storage also displayed just fine on pc. However when I booted up link2sd on teh phone and tried to link or bind stuff (i was restored my files and data from an old 4.4.2 lg volt phone to my galaxy s5 6.0.1 phone) and all my apps and data restored just fine via titanium backup. apparently though link2sd rusn differently on an s5 using mashmallow than it dos on a lg volt using kitkat as when I booted it up and rie dto rebind/relink all my apps back to sd on the s5.
It got a message saying something like (i dont remember the error well) "this device doesnt support sdext and needs sdefs, would you like to change it. This can be changed back at any time in the slider" So I figured. Ok even if it dosnt work I can change it back with the slider so I hit yes to change. Yet nothings binded or linked and when I tried to go back and relink all apps manually its saying sd card not found or mounted. Im thinking umm this card was JUST used to restore a titanium backup so why isnt i found?
So I plug the phone into my pc and sure enough not only do I not see an external storage I also notice I cant access the phones internal storage (well i can but its nothing it it) and the pc shows it as 127 mb free of 128 mb... im thinking 128mb? Umm it should say 16gb. So i chdck the storage on the phone itself and it says sd card is unmounted (titanium backup says the same thing when before link2sd titanium accessed my sd card just fine). But the internal storage on the phone reads as 9.82 Gb used of 14-16gb (close to it) which is correct so Im like why doesnt the pc read it as such? I used to just fine before I did what I did on link2sd.
Lastly i took the sd card out of the phone and put in a different sd card and it shows it as unmounted too. so got the first sd card that I previously took out of the phone plugged it into my pc and my pc reads it just fine along with all my backups and what not so i know the sd card isnt damaged. Sooo how do i change whatever i changed on link2sd to get my phone to recognize my sd card correctly again and get my pc to recognize the external storage when its plugged into the phone and recognize the internal storage of the phone as the right size again?
update.
Ok Im having a HUGE problem. My phone worked fine at first, then I rooted it and used titanium backup to restore all my apps from my old phone (an lg volt) to my current phone an S5... everything was fine. My phone recognized my SD card, when I plugged the phone into my PC it would show my correct phone internal storage as well as my sd card storage. Then I ran link2sd to relink all my data to my sd card... even though i didnt need to because unlike my old phone which was 8gb the s5 was 16gb and had more than enough space to run my apps without the link2sd. If I had left that alone we wouldnt be where we are now. However I didnt so here we are.
Link2sd had message saying something like "this device doesnt support /sdext and has to be changed to sdefs (i know im getting the message way wrong but it was something like that) these settings can be changed via slider". So I clicked yes to let it do what it had to do. after all if I didnt like the results I could always change back via the slider right? link2sd required a reboot after the changes were made and now when it boots after the samsung and sprint logos and before the lock screen Im staring at a black screen that shows the time and "no connection" for about 30 secs before the lock screen shows up (this didnt happen before link2sd made whatever changes it made) and the "process system not responding" message shows up. Though the only adverse affects Ive sen from that so far is when I open Gallery it stops and closes automatically so I cant even use it.
However I couldnt find said slider and now when I hooked my phone to PC it shows no external storage and reads my internal as 127MB free of 128mb (yes that right... 128 mb.. on a phone thats supposed to be 16gb). When i go to storage on the phone itself It said sdcard unmounted (as if theres not one there) and my internal storage shows 9gb used of 14gb so the PHONE knows how much gb I should have but my pc doesnt. Also if i take the sdcard out of the phone and plug it into my pc directly everything shows up on it just as it should so i know the sd card isnt broken.
So I found solutions like reboot phone in recovery and have it wipe cache. I did that.... didnt work. Then I tried unrooting the phone and factory data reset (from the phone settings not from the recovery boot). Despite doing a factory rest which SHOULD fix ANYTHING wrong with the phone, delete all apps and make it run just as it did when you got it. That black screen between logos on lock screen still pops up and I get the "process system not responding" message still appears. Now my PC doesnt see my phone at all when Its plugged in.
So I tried booting in safe mode to see if that message still comes up and the answer is yes but now my pc sees my phone (no sd card in it but I doubt it will see it if it was) however it still displays the storage as 127mb of 128mb
So link2sd started this whole problem and factory reset wont even solve it. Ive provided plenty of details. Can this be fixed or if my phone pretty much done now (i can still use it for texts and calls but, its useless hooked to a pc, doesnt recognize external storage anymore and I cant use the gallery sooooo yea. I hope someone has a solution.
You can't partition 64GB up sdcards.
Use Sandisk Sdcards
Never use Kingstom
Your phone supports ext2 if you install ext tool on.
I HATE SAMSUNG and all that is ext4 devices.
Try find yaffs2 devices.

I partitioned my 128gb card just fine
its a samsung card.
Even if I unpartitioned the card that isnt gonna make the phone read it and do what its supposed to do again so. Im gonna need a reply that helps or at least attempts to help the actual MAJOR problems Im having with the phone right now thank you.
Just explained, none of pc types will repartition again your sdcard, this what i said upon, (don't create 64GB up partitions becausr you ca'nt), at least any mobile too. Recuse usage of 64Gb up sdcards
This is a tip, that i learned, samsung is venom, they have the solution for recover your sdcard 128g because they done this, go ask them
Remember:

and again the sd card is the least of my worries how about the problems I listed like my 16gb phone showing up as 128mb on my pc,. not being able to look at the internal storage files/folders on my pc, the "system process not responding" message that come up, even in safe mode and still hasnt went away after a factory reset as such none of my apps (like google maps, internet or even gallery are working, only thing I can do with this phone now is call and text. How about you try focusing on THOSE issues please. Thank you.
Well in case anyone was wondering I solved the problem, reflashing the stock rom then rerooting fixed everything.. I just know not to use link2sd on this phone again
Having the same problem here... how to fix?
I fixed it
Link2sd creates a backup during the process
Just delete the
System/sdcard.bin or (system/sdcard)
And rename the backup named
sdcard.original.pre-link2sd
To
Sdcard.bin
Reboot phone and #Enjoy

UPDATE!!
Got it! My backup files were in /system/bin
but there were two files (sdcard and sdcard.bin). I deleted the sdcard.bin and renamed the sdcard.original.pre-link2d to sdcard.bin.
